Are anyone of the 2003 shows avaliable via the ants downloader? Or is it if the SHN server is down, then the downloader is down?

if the server hosting the shows is down, then how would the ants downloader, which downloads from the server, work?

I am not sure, that is why I am asking. They could be 2 different servers? I do not live on the forum like some.....

there are 2 servers, one for shows from 90-99 and the other for shows from 2000-04. the 2000-04 is down (see the downloads area, shn server, it says down in red letters). so that means you can't get any shows from 2000-04 right now. like jason said, the downloader allows you to download from the server....so if the server is down, the downloader won't work. it'll be up soon enough.

and don't be a smartass when people are trying to help you. chances are, if you read the FAQ you would have found your answer.

i'm sorry if i sounded harsh, but i thought it was pretty clear that the ONLY thing the downloader does is queue up all the files so they will download without you needing to sit at your computer... i mean, maybe the FAQ doesn't state that.

I just found this wonderful site last week, and find it rather disapointing that for such a great resource dedicated to the fans and devoted to such a beautiful and mellow band, many of the regulars on these forums are so fast to jump on every little question and post!

This is really disheartning. I have been reading several new threads since last week (some old). As soon as someone posts a relative question (which may or may not have been asked before) I see upwards of 3 or 4 "regulars" post angry responses in regards to "prior posts" or "FAQ".

I understand that repetiveness on a forum is bad = server space; but is it better than rudeness, and being mean? We all have a right to be here, as we all have been brought to this site for many wonderful reasons. I am sure all of you were new at one point or another. What gives you the right to be sarcastic? Why be mean? Just becasue a fan used a forum to aska question? Is that not what most forums are for?

This thread is a prime example.

Newbie asks valid question (already asked, yes...but how many times per million visitors is the same question really posted? .01% or so?)...

regular answers...

if the server hosting the shows is down, then how would the ants downloader, which downloads from the server, work?Newbie responds asking why the rudeness to such a simple question....

Another regular (the site-op?) responds with...

and don't be a smartass when people are trying to help you. chances are, if you read the FAQ you would have found your answer. Tell me, since when is such blatently rude sarcasm percieved as "help"? Why team up? Why not just put the same effort into something like..."When the server is down, Ants DL will not work." Wouldn't it be easier? If anything you would make it that much easier for the next "smartass" to skip the FAQ and maybey, just maybe read this thread.

Ah yes, it would get very draining to answer the same questions time and time again, but instead slamming everyone is way more fun I guess? I don't know. It seems weird to have such a great resource, backed with this huge valuable forum where people seem scared to postor fear of being banned, or slammed.

Just like this thread, and another in regards to splitting up a show on two CD's; everyone blasts the orig. newbie poster? Not only that, fights break out over nothing! Why? What gives some of you more of a right to be rude, and arrogant? Is it because some of you have 100, or 1,000 more posts? Is this what allows you the right to slam everyone? If so, it is sad. I would hope, and wish way more tollerance would be shown on a DMB site. I would never have imagined this community, and seemingly loyal fans to be, such a angry, rude place.

In closing, I would like to say I stop by at least twice a day just to check the FTP server availibility, read some forums, and such. I think the site-ops, and everyone that runs everything including the servers have done more with this site than I could have dreamed possible. One of my roommates and I just got into the live show "shn" scene and are avid Dave fans. I wish to thank everyone that made this site possible, and would hope a little more respect and kindess would be diplayed in the future.

Thanks again antsmarching,

Jason

What gives you the right to be sarcastic?honestly, you must not read much here because that tends to be the nature of most of the people in the community.

and maybe i came across as sarcastic in my first post, but really, if half the people that had a question stopped to think about it and tried to find an answerm we wouldn't have half the questions we do. probably more than half wouldn't even be asked.

i myself thought it was pretty common logic and knowledge that if the server is down, so are the shows, thus leading to someone not being able to use the downloader.

Newbie asks valid question (already asked, yes...but how many times per million visitors is the same question really posted? .01% or so?)...depends on the questions. if you were here when the server went back up, you would have seen probably 10-15 threads A DAY--hell it was 5 per HOUR--as to why it wasn't working, errors, etc. the mods had to create a thread eventually in big capital letters telling people if they had problems to post there.

Why not just put the same effort into something like..."When the server is down, Ants DL will not work." Wouldn't it be easier? If anything you would make it that much easier for the next "smartass" to skip the FAQ and maybey, just maybe read this thread.Again, I think it is the nature of ants. If the bridge had a server and it went down, I ASSURE you that you wouldn't be making a post like this. Why? Cause your ass would be grass and you would be out so fast, you wouldn't even know you had been there. Seriously.

Everything doesn't need to be happy and plushy fuck all the time. Next time I'll add a smiley just for your sake. And in all honesty, that isn't the way the world is. I don't know what the heck type of world you live in, but everything and everyone can't be in a happy good mood all the time. You're going to find people a lot worse than me ANYWHERE you go.

Unless of course, you frequent the Tella-Tubbies forums. Then maybe you'll find the happy go lucky world you are looking for.

In conclusion, if this place didn't have the sarcasm it would be boring as hell. And for the newbie in this thread that may not "live on the forums like someone", you've been here since December... and even though you've only got 8 posts, I'm fairly confident you saw all the threads about the server coming up and going back down again. Ok, maybe not all of them, but at least one.

Hell, I just reread my initial post and it wasn't even that bad. It's all about your interpretation, my man.

did i politly tell him the answer in my first paragraph? yes.

did i tell him if he wants help, he shouldn't knock down long-time members of the community? yes. he wanted help, yet takes a cheap shot at jason being here more than him. last time i checked, if you're asking for help, you don't take a shot at the person you're asking. had he not said that, i wouldn't have had to tell him not to be a smart-ass.

again, i told him the answer right off the bat, so if someone does read this, they will find the answer.

Once again my point has been reiterated. So meaness is somehow validated, yet courtesy is scoffed at and equiviolated to to "tella-tubbies".

No the world is not "plushy-fuck", but that does not mean you have to boot up your computer, log onto this site and attempt BMOC syndrom, raging against the machine; and ruffling feathers.

I must say, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

(Please insert your "free speech", "don't come here if you don't like it" comments here, as this is quasi intelligent thinking, and really furthers your argument on why you should be rude."

Why be the bad guy, sit back and let the next guy do it, then hopefully, eventually no one will assume the "bad guy roll".

i shall further validate your point by bringing to your attention the fact that most of the people who ask the question on this part of the forum, most probably due to genetics, are quite stupid. another decent majority are blind. these two qualities tend to mix frequently, so you get a lot of stupid people asking a question that was answered an inch from theirs.

So, in order to lessen the monotony of telling people to read the faq, search, or make the effort to actualy think for a moment, it livens the atmosphere up by being, to be blunt, a bunch of assholes. that way, our frustration is vented, the poster gets his question answered (indirectly or directly), and if all goes well, the poster also feels slightly dumber.

If you, for whatever reason, feel this is not the type of atmosphere you wish to reside in, then please, by all means continue to use the other resources and have a nice day. However, if you feel you still wish to participate, you have two choices:

1> carry yourself in a friendly manner and try to set an example for others
2> shut the everloving fuck up and deal with it

We hope you can make your decision promptly and efficiently, and we hope you enjoy your stay at antsmarching.org

Sincerily,
Ben

Wow, thats all I can say.
Everyone (Now Including myself) should fucking be ashamed of themselves. People wonder why war exists? Talk about escalation, this thread is utterly, and complete out of fucking hand, it is not necessary. Dude asked a question, in the future, if someone asks a stupid question thats already been asked and answered then just dont post anything, and move on.

On behalf of every single decent, music sharing, dmb fan on this website, I would thank all the fuck of you. I walk away from my computer that much dumber, because I took the time to read this post thinking there would be a valuable lesson to come away with. Because of this thread we are all worse off, and everyone else who reads this is actually losing points off there IQ.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY INVOLVED THIS THREAD.....

I would actually add some smart quote here, but I fucking forgot, because I am now fucking dumber for actually reading this. Iam akchule feghitting how 2 tipe ass wespeek.

there are always going to be assholes, jerks, and idiots asking questions. deal with it.

i HONESTLY and TRUTHFULLY don't think my response was rude. maybe where you come from it is, but not from everything else i have seen on this board. i don't understand why you are jumping on me for this, when it really is all about how you interpreted it.

here's your fucking smiley so you don't think i'm being an asshole: :)

Man, I've been on this site to dl the shows that I've attended and a few others. I think I've posted once or twice (maybe). I never had really gotten into these posts and reading all this shit. I just read this thread (almost all of it) and it about made me sick.... I'm not even hungover either. Maybe they asked a question and didn't research enough like I did when I got on here but you jump down their throat like they are the slugs of the earth for asking a 'bad' question on your message post board. What else would you have to do if people didn't ask questions on this message post because obviously you have no life but ripping people on this site! Find some other passion besides bashing people for asking questions where you spend half your day. You may find that your life is boring as hell if people didn't ask questions here. Cheers.
