View Full Version : What's the big deal about SPAC?

I'm not being negative, I really want to know. Everyone seems to go nuts for these shows like it is the Gorge or MSG. Is it because it is close to New York? I don't really understand the hype.

Have you ever been there? Because its hard to describe it unless you've witness it firsthand

Never been there. That's why I was wondering. Is it energy? The set up?

Energy is great......Setup is a little tight on the lawn......but for the lucky 5000 or so inside the ampitheater its a religious experience

I was there last year and it was an incredible 2 day show. However, I was at Mansfield and Columbus and both were just as good, I guess it is whatever bandwagon people want to jump on.

I don't know, but I do know for all the people who rave about it not one was interested/knew anyone interested in buying my non-lawn seats last year. I actually was looking for $50 for both and didn't get any serious nibbles.

Haha.. one of my friends had those seats for d+f, I think he had row X, it was pretty bad. :lol
Anyways Ive been to Darien, Blue Cross, Corel Centre, Molson Centre, MSG, and SPAC for dmb shows and I would probably take SPAC over any of them, well maybe MSG.... cant really choose.

I'm heading up to Albany tomorrow night , and I'll be parking my car on the street overnight. I guess we'll find out just how nice of a city Albany is .If I wanted to , I could take my winter car , but it doesn't have a CD player and really don't want to cruise at 90mph in it ( cheap tires , doesn't handle that great , ect ).

SPAC is beautiful setting. Great acoustics. Nice Vibe. Rustling Trees. For my travelling dollar, I prefer to be out in a beautiful forest / park rather than being in a downtown big city. That way it probably has the same apeal as the Gorge (haven't made it there yet). Toronto amphitheatre's nice, tidy outside venue but not exactly wilderness.
I sense a theme: Gorge(ous) SPAC(tacular)

I agree the sound and the crowd at MSG sucks compared to most other venues of it's size and style. The setlists in recent years have been the only draw in my mind.
SPAC is just a beautiful place to go to and the sound is excellent. The band always seems to be on there and the crowd is very different than other north east shows. If you go to a show in Hartford there are loud drunk disrespectful people who tend to ruin the show, mansfield is similiar sometimes to that too. SPAC is just a great atmosphere where everyone seems to have a good time and seems to be there to enjoy the music (though the fans are usually more attractive in Hartford :lol ).

Only thing that redeemed all the crap was the Recently/Stay encore. That was hot stuff. Besides that...the crowd sucked, the band wasn't on, nothing worked.

yep, my sentiments exactly. It was so overhyped in my opinion, and I learned...I will never return to Hartford. I'd rather risk getting a drive by in Camden again.

that would freak me out. when we were in the lots for Camden we were parked like right across from the projects or something, because sketchy people kept walking by, let me tell you, that was the weakest tailgating I've done in a long time. I was lucky I had good directions to get back to our hotel (which is a whole nother story...I swear there was blood on the rug there, and it smelled like death in the whole place)

I just had a bad overall experience there...my seats were will called, and the box office gave them to someone else (like 6th row mind you) so we had to go through this whole hassle, I was pissed, and got angry and they threatened to kick us out!! even though it was their mistake, and then they escorted us to our seats, we argued with the punks who were in our seats because they swore they were their seats, and blah blah blah, then we had 89024302 people pushing down to crowd in and it wasn't cool, and everything, but whatever, I'm sure I'd go back if it was the only show on the east coast...it wasn't worth the long drive.
