i couldn't find any threads on this, so thought i would ask some fellow ants.
i have recieved a few dvd's in the past two months, and only one will play in my dvd player. they all work in a friends computer and dvd player, but not in mine. the dvd's are either memorex or maxell dvd+rs. i have talked to tak-a-tak about it, and we couldn't think of anything.
i was wondering if different burning programs would not play on my player. i just can't think of anything else.
the shows that don't play are as follows:
12-14-02 dmb
07-05-03 dmb
12-20-03 d&f
the show that does play is 12-22-03 d&f.
if you guys have any thoughts let me know. i know some older dvd players don't play dvd+rs, but why would mine play one but not others?
thank you guys!

also just fyi,
I used nero express to burn the dm&f show 12.22.03
I don't know if that adds anything or not, just thought it may help.

i know some of the newer dvds have .lay files [which were included when the dvds were made, but are not vital to the dvd's efficient operation]
there was a bug with 12.14.02 [though it might have only been pertinent to difficulties when copying]
dvd burning programs do not alter the data, a copy he burned with one program would be identical to a dvd that someone else burned with a different burner, using a different program.
i really don't know what to tell you, how new is your dvd player?

bump.
hey. just a thought. would the speed that the dvd is burned do anything?
the dvd+r's that i have so far bought have said something to the effect of if something is burned onto it, don't burn 2.4, only 4x (or vice versa). maybe?

have you checked www.dvdrhelp.com to see if your player is compatible with the media you're using?
Is the one show that does play, on the same exact media as one of the other shows that doesn't play?
Did you get all the shows from the same person, if not, did you ask the trader if they had any problems with the DVD?
depending on your answers, you may have sector errors on your discs. some shows with sector errors with play on some stand alones but not others. I know you can fix that with ifoedit but, i don't know how. Maybe someone else can help you with that.

i have been using two brands of discs, both memorex and maxell. the show that works is maxell, but i have other maxell shows that won't play (on maxell).
shows are all from different people. will get in contact with them.
sorry i haven't been online for a while...in the process of moving. but i do want to say thank you for all the help.
any other suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks again!

its 99% your player
and even though some maxell work that doesn't mean they all will--in rare cases one disc will work and the next will not
i know this for a fact because i have made dvds from the start to finish and burned them on the same discs from the same box and one would play and the other wouldn't on my friends older player
so i doubt its sector errors personly because the player is 3 yrs old--3 yrs ago +r discs were rarrrrrre and few players were made to play them at all
unfortunatly in this case there is no easy fix and the best bet is to get a new player
if you do go for a new player take the shows with you and test them all at the store
EDIT -- 12/14/02 was known and spread at 1st with BADDDD sector errors
the others i have not heard of probs with though

thanks for the info...
will break down and buy a new dvd player...maybe a cheap wal-mart 30$ player just for dmb dvd's...tee, hee!

Unless they re-rip the dvd using something like dvd shrink and it gets sector errors. 12-14-00 along with some other shows have these sector errors which can be fixed using ifoedit. Most people don't know this, so copies that won't play for some people keep getting spread.
