star wars is a story about anakin who dies in episode 6.
lucas said on 60 minutes that episodes 7-9 don't exist... the story stops at 6.

Everything else is Expanded Universe, like Jacen & Jaina Solo & Mara Jade Skywalker. While it's Lucas licensed, it wasn't his creation or writing....so it stops at 6.

Revelations is very good. I know the maker and pretty much the entire cast. Enjoy it.
Cooper, I got it at a convention. It is completely clear and crisp, as if it were a copy I bought at Best Buy.
Palpy gets kidnapped by Grievous. 25 chapters.

Yeah. The first five minutes of the film should involve him killing Padme, Jar Jar, and then throwing himself into fire so he can become Vader right away, therefore removing Hayden from the film. Otherwise, it will be a sucky film.

It's not really a spoiler anymore. It's been said before in George Lucas interviews, Hayden Christensen interviews and Rick McCallum interviews. There's also magazines that are running pictures of it.
It also happens within the last hour of the film.

Let me tell you how many positive things I've heard about this one. Lucas was interviewed by Time and he basically said this one really wowed him and he was impressed with it. But then again, he'll say that about Episodes I & II.
Let's hope it's not a big let down.
flyer3468
05-09-2005, 03:39 PM
I think this one can't be bad. I & II were a gamble because they really didn't affect the story as much as they needed to. If I were to go back and make the prequel movies I would start halfway in Ep II because the Clone Wars are the only part you really need to know. His childhood helped develop his character a little bit, but that could have been skipped and you could have expended on his teen years, which is what we really want to see. Ep III just has so much important storylines that we need to know, so I don't think it's possible for it to be bad.

Allman Brothers = Wookies?
I just lost all respect for the negative reviews. I read the "Bush" one and it said that there was too much liberal politics in the movie, which makes no sense as to why that its a bad movie. Then the second one takes a stab at the Allman Brothers. This should be 100%, because obviously those 2 reviewers are assholes.

They've been pre-selling tickets to this for the last 2 weeks at my local theaters. I don't think there's any way I'm gonna get to see this opening night.
Then again, I have a friend who works at the local Century Theater dn gets me tickets al the time. Maybe I'll call him up and go see the theater's dry run...with no crowd! How sick would that be?

I really want this film to be good.
My only problem with Episodes 1-2 is that there isn't any suspense. The problem with this latter/earlier trilogy is that we already know the character arcs. We know that Anakin, OB1, Yoda and a few others will not die because of their character evolution in the original trilogy. So when Lucas has the films climaxing in light sabre battles between those characters...there's no suspense because we know what's going to happen (or at least know that the main characters won't be dying at a young age). That was what was so cool about the original trilogy...at any moment you could be slapped in the face by a dramatic change in the lives of these characters we cared about so much (e.g. OB1 could be killed by Vader, Luke's whole family is slaughtered, Han is frozen in carbonite, Vader is Luke's father, Leia's home planet is obliterated, Yoda dies, Jabba dies, etc.).
The one thing that Lucas has on his side now with the current films he's been making is that there is an incredible amount of dramatic irony because we DO know what will happen to these characters later on. The problem is that he hasn't played that angle enough to make the new films compelling. The best he can do are some fucking in-jokes like OB1 telling Anakin ("you'll be the death of me"). Jesus tapdancing Christ that's the best he can do? Hopefully ROTS will finally show Lucas playing those angles that worked so well in the original trilogy.
Just my 2 cents.
until he kicks the bucket of course.
:thumbsup
in 50 years, someone will re-do all 6 episodes, and the 1st 2 won't suck.
episode 2 showed why George Lucas is still single - that was the most unbelievable love story ever.

Sorry. I didn't know that Anakin choking Padme in the last hour of the film was common knowledge. To me, that would be a major plot device of the film, wouldn't it?
On that note, is it possible to get a civilized response on these boards? People jump down other people's throats at the slightest things.

Does Padme die? Because in Return of the Jedi, Leia is talking to Luke and says that her mother died when she was small. But she had memories of her. It led me to believe Padme doesn't die until after Episode 3.

Answer to your question:
Yes she does die in this episode. This same quesiton was asked in a newspaper article I read today and it asked since Leia is just a baby in this movie how would she know that her mother. The article responded to say that maybe she could feel her mothers feelings in the womb or when she was a baby since Leia does have ways with the Force.

Yeah I know she has her way with the Force and that could be an answer. I was just assuming that since she said "I remember she was very beautiful" (which btw Natalie Portman is) that she would actually have seen/spent some time with her. I guess it goes back to Obi-Wan's and Luke's conversation in ROTJ when talking about point-of-view as they were discussing Vader killing Anakin.

What is the big freakin' deal about Star Wars? But I suppose I understand, after all, I am assuming we all think DMB is a big deal, and some people might find fault with that. I just never caught on to Star Wars, more of a Trekker myself. I wasn't high, nor old enough, in the heyday of Star Wars to understand it, so I guess that explains it.
Nonetheless, I am still compelled by the irresistable urge to see this monstrosity of a cinematic epic, yet tickets are impossible to acquire. The theaters within an hour of me are sold out for nearly a week. So I guess it's Hitchhiker's Guide for me. We might just show up to the theater anyway and see if we can somehow come into tickets for the midnight show, by any means necessary.

I'm sure everyone has their own reason for liking Star Wars. Well for me, Every day I would go to daycare, I would watch a tape of Empire, and I was hooked. I've known every line since I was ten. Sad? Yes, but I'm ok with it:)

When I was like 7 my dad bought me the original trilogy on VHS, it was the last time they would be released as the original editions and we used to watch one every night for months at a time. Even now, I watch one of them every week if I can. My dad also rented the Star Trek movies even though he never liked them himself, just to have me watch them. I got up to the second one and just gave up. I found no interest in them whatsoever. Still today if I try and force myself to watch Star Trek it just seems phony to me.

WOW... that movie was awesome. i thought it flowed very well. i wasn't bored for a second. someone taught that kid to act. while no he's not the best actor in the world...i think he made a complete 360 (compared to attack of the clones). that goes up there as one of the best star wars movies. i need to see it more before i say it's my absolute favorite but wow that really blew me away. the end was incredibly gut wrenching. i look back at the last two and they make a lot more sense. it gives you a complete spread of good all the way to evil. you watch this movie and remember the little annoying good hearted kid in phantom menace and now *BAM* he's killing "younglings" and soon burning alive. thanks george lucas you truly delivered with this one...Star Wars is now complete!

LOL. well done...you got me LOL. i've always been a big star wars fan but only to the extent of playing some of the games and watching the movies...there's just another realm to those movies that i just don't get. never wil make sense to me. i need to get the clip of triumph the insult dog from conan when attack of the clones came out. he goes around the street and makes fun of all the people standing in line...it's absolutely hysterical.

My favorite geek jokes of the night were;
-The guy who came dressed as Mr. Spock. He had to have been beaten by 1,000 fake lightsabers.
-Anyone who dressed as a wookie and would only talk in growls and grunts
-The underage kid who went to the bar and tried to buy a beer. When the bartender asked for ID he responded, "You don't have to see my ID"

I almost felt bad for Anakin at some points of the movie. I knew his fate, but really didn't want him to change. Awesome special effects though, and overall probably the best of the new star wars.

The scene where they began slaughtering the Jedi was great. Looking back this may be my favorite scene in any Star Wars movie. The second those kids got out to greet Anakin, I just said to myself. "Oh Crap, This is gonna be good." I'm so glad that Lucas didn't actually show it on screen because it's so much more effective to imagine how they die.
The only complaint I had about the movie was showing the Death Star at the end. This movie is 30 years before 'A New Hope' when they first have the death star fully operational. The would've had to keep it a secret for 30 years, and there is no way it would've taken that long to build. It only took 5 years to rebuild it the second time, even though it wasn't finished it was almost done.
Overall I would rank this movie as my 3rd favorite, right after Empire and Jedi. It was just so damn good. Watching this made me appreciate the other prequels more.

Oh my geekness almost forgot the ups to 'Antilles' and the original hallway from 'A New Hope.' Those were definite high moments of the movie too.
Also, where was the Lucas cameo, did anyone see it? I figured it was at that scene at the theatre type thing that Palpatine was watching. I didn't notice it in time, if it was that scene.

Saw it last night. I have to say that while considerably better than the last two movies, it still was somewhat disappointing. The acting is atrocious, yet again. Which is likely due to the fact that George Lucas couldn't direct himself out of a paper bag. And the dialogue is God-awful. However, the plot is still fairly strong and the action is wonderful. I just wish his characters behaved in a way that made any sort of logical sense. They often say one thing and then minutes later do the complete opposite of what they said. Oh well, worth seeing, but nothing amazing, if he hadn't lowered expectations so much, i feel people wouldn't be praising it so much.
Hudak-Budak

It felt rushed. And in true Lucas fashion, the dialogue is god-awful, which I think affected the acting. There is no excuse for that group of actors to have been as sub-par as they were in this movie.

well it's obviously not thirty years, man. 1) Luke and Leia are only about 19 around a New Hope, and they've only been building the Death Star for probably 2 years maybe, due to the fact that the Seperatists started it's construction (plans on Geonosis). 2) The Second Death Star was probably started about 10 years to fifteen years prior to A New Hope.

Just got back from it, great great movie, so sad. The dialogue and acting was pretty bad in spots, but the action, storyline and drama made up for it. It was definitely the best of the prequels. As for the last scene with the Death Star in the distance, it really did add some drama, but you're right about the time frame. This movie was so intense - I didn't take my eyes off the screen the entire time. When we were on our way home, my fiance said "Wow, I really wish they'd do the other three," but my reply to that was "why mess with perfection - they ended it with a bang," and that's truly how I feel. Everyone in the film did an excellent job, however the scene with the Wookie imitating the Tarzan yell and Anakin and Padme's romantic dialogue was a little hokey for my tastes. I could never get into that crap. Glad I didn't. last one that was out, I fell asleep at the theatre. It bored me. Could be because I haven't seen the other ones. I am not one to get into sci-fi though. I heard there were few hundred people outside in line to see this movie at midnight and then a guy who is first in line, buys 150 tix and it sells out. Man, that would suck for those people waiting in line. The movie theatre should have never let someone buy that many tickets.... but then again, it could have been for a youth group or something of that sort. Oh well, glad I am not a star wars geek!

Very very very good movie.
This one, unlike the first two, enthralled me the whole time. It stirred strong emotions in me that the other two had not. I actually teared up during the last few scenes of the film, especially the final scene between Obi-wan and Anakin. Very moving, indeed.
But Natalie Portman still can't act in my book. :p
However, it seemed that she was in very few scenes...so that was a plus.
Also, thank God Jar-Jar didn't say a single freakin' word. Whoever decided this, I applaude you. :lol
I was more impressed with the CG on Yoda this time around. The details of the wrinkles in his face were much better than before and his expressions were more believable overall.
The final scenes had me wanting to watch Episode IV, though it was far too late to do that by the time I got home.
Maybe I'll pop it in tomorrow.
I adore how Vader's first words after he became his 'new self' were addressing Padme's safety. Very nice.
Sidious was quite evil and manipulative. I adore this man in all his wretchedness and evil plots. Also, Grievous was one of the most badass villians ever. Talk about cool... though my bladder was completely full, I felt glued to my seat throughout the entire Obi-wan/Grievous battle. Very engaging....
~~~******SPOILER******~~~
Padme's funeral scene was beautiful.
~~~********END SPOILER*******~~~
And that about wraps up my feelings on this film.
It's the second best in my book, next to Empire. :) Two thumbs up and 4 of 4 stars.
You've redeemed yourself, George.
Now go film something other than Star Wars and other sci-fi. ;)

I went and seen this last night with a friend. I really liked it. They had several tie ins to Episode IV, which was nice. I was about to list a couple that impressed me, but realized many people have not seen it yet. The best part last night was the 2 couples that brought their babies, both under 2 years old. Did I mention it was an 11:00pm showing? This one is far superior to the first 2, but still lacked in comparison to IV and V. Well done George!!!

I saw this yesterday and thought it was really good. I'm gonna take my brother to see it in a few days. He'd never seen any of the SW movies so last week I had him come over and watch 4 and 5 one night. Then we watched 6 the next day. He's gonna watch 1 and 2 this weekend and then we're gonna go see 3 next week.
I actually debated for a little while if I should show him 1, 2, then go see 3 in the theater, then have him watch 4, 5, 6. OR if I should have him watch 4, 5, 6, 1 , 2, and then go see 3. I decided to take the second option.

The funniest thing was when Palpatine was making all those weird grunting noises in the battle at the senate. He was screaming like a little girl half the time. That and when Yoda was in the air duct or whatever that was. The camera was like 2 inches from his face for a good 30 seconds, it was just creepy. If you noticed, (which I'm sure you did since you've seen it twice now) Palpatine was making sharp croaking noises. I read that Ian came up with the concept when they were filming ROTJ because he thought Palpatine looked like a toad so he decided it would be funny to give him a somewhat hideous croak.

I also like when Vader ripped himself off of the bed, and took a step forward like Frankenstein. I just burst out laughing, and I got some evil looks from inside the theatre.Did anyone realize Grievous' character was inspired by Nosferatu? They also mentioned the Frankenstein-ish way Darth steps forward. Seems Lucas is a big fan of the classic horror flicks. I read all this stuff in the latest Entertainment Weekly - some good background info on the flick, especially the part where they mentioned that Palpatine created Anakin through the force.

I saw it last night here in Hollywood.....Quite a scene. Since I was at work, my buddy had to lineup at noon for a 7pm movie. There were so many people in the theatre dressed up in star wars gear and carrying light sabers. People even brought in beachballs to toss around before the movie started.
Anyway, the movie was AMAZING. Growing up with the original 3 films, I found myself almost crying at the end of this one. Truely a wonderful film.

When Palaptine was talking to Anakin at the opera he tells him that Darth Plagieus had the power to manipulate midi-chlorians to create life and to prevent those he loved from dying and that he taught everything he knew to his apprentice, i.e. Palp. Lucas considered putting in the script that Palpatine created Anakin, but decided to just leave it out there for anyone to interpret as they'd like.

wow that would've been a new twist. Luke's grandad would've been Palpatine..in an odd roundabout way. Hmm....I always wondered if Palpatine, even back before Anakin was a sparkle in the Force's eye, if Palpatine had planned on him being his apprentice, or if it was just a nice coincidence that he met this young man with so much fear and anger inside himself.

Lucas has repeatedly said that Anakin is the chosen one and he was concieved by the Force. I read that if you pop in the ROTJ DVD commentary Lucas says it at the end, when Vader kills Sidious. Now, when Episode III was in production, Lucas had a change of heart and decided not to make it evident that Anakin was created by the Sith - maybe he didn't want to expose us to too many shocking revelations. Another thing I was thinking about last night as my fiance begged me to shut up so he could get some sleep, was if Palpatine lied to Anakin about being able to learn to prevent those he loved from dying, why didn't Darth kill Palp as soon as he could after he discovered Padme was dead? I now realize that he knew he didn't have the power to defeat him considering the condition his body was in, also he didn't have the power to send charges of electricity through his enemies because he wasn't made of flesh. The first chance he had to defeat Sidious was ROTJ when Luke was there and he did it.

No. That was part of the reason why she was put in the hospital. If you listen to the droid, he says, she's in perfect condition, but she's not going to make it. She lost the will to live. It wasn't the children, it wasn't because Anakin choked her. Because she truly loved Anakin, and living without him was like not living at all, hence, her death.

still, 18 years is a long time considering they have almost all of it built inbetween the time of IV and VI.
Whoever said they didn't start the second one until the first one is destroyed?
If I have the ability to build the ultimate destructive space station, I'm not just gonna build one of them and wait for that one to get blown up before starting another.
And even if it wasn't started until DS 1 was destroyed, I'd imagine the DS 2 would take a LOT less time to complete. Have you ever built something once, and then built it again a second time? The second time is always much faster, becase you already know what to do, you've learned from your mistakes the first time.
Besides, the DS 2 wasn't structurally finished anyway. That would have added a few more years onto it.

I believe that Vader thought he killed her, but he actually didn't. Palpatine told him that he killed her and his reaction was 'the scream'. He really had no effect on her death, but he believed Palpatine, therefore believes that it was his fault.

Saw the movie earlier today. Good not great. 3 out of 4 stars. The dialog in spots was bad. Especially between Anakin and Padme. The driod explaining her death was silly and Vader's " NOooooo...." was god awful. Sam Jackson sucked with Lucas dialog and direction in all 3 films. I felt someting was missing during the scene when Darth Sidious bestowed the title Darth Vader to Anakin.

I am of the minority opinion that the movie made the entire saga make no sense. In order for this movie to work, Anakin has to be completely stupid and borderline retarded, and that just doesn't jive with the intelligence they had previously established for him.

For the most part, everything clicked. I think the only things that didn't was the part not being called Obi-Wan and Leia remembering her mother being always sad. The Obi-Wan part could have been fixed by having him called Ben after the Vader fight possibly. I don't think fixing Leia remembering her mother being sad because I think it had to be shown that she died in this movie. Other than that, I enjoyed the movie.
Pick up the new rolling stone also as it has Darth Vader on the cover and it has insights from everyone who played Anakin/Darth Vader.

overall i liked it. i'm not a huge star wars nut, so i don't whether or not the details were perfect. however, i had two complaints (albeit minor ones). first, it seems like the introduction to Chewbacca and the whole wookie fight scene was thrown for no real reason but to introduce us to wookies, which is a bummer because that could have been a cool fight. second, while the movie did a pretty good job with anakin turning to the dark side, i just wasn't convinced with his reasons for doing so and didn't feel that they focused on the anguish he must have felt.

As for the wookie part at first i thought the same thing but if u think about it yoda had to survive the masacre some how and it could have been done any number of ways so why not do it with the wookies, everyone loves the wookies. but as for anakins reasons for going to the dark side i completely agree. I think they were talking about him communicating with them through the force even though he was dead. Remember how Obi-Wan in ANH after he dies still communicates with Luke throughout the original trilogy. Also, remember Qui-Gon never disappeared when he died, like Obi-Wan and Yoda when they die. I think that after Qui-Gon dies, he learns how to do that stuff (don't ask me how, I don't know) and then teaches Yoda and Obi-Wan while they are in seclusion.
