You sound like me when I was watching it. I think that Jack has been keeping track of sydney's whole life, and most likely others too. Maybe Nadia too, and Vaughn, Sark, Lauren. Who knows!
I also think that Vaughn's dad is somehow connected with Jack, and maybe he isn't even dead.

Man, Sark is one of my favorite characters on TV right now... I agree, he would never do something that stupid.
So, Sydney shot Katya with that tranquilizer... I wonder if she got away or was captured? I wonder if there is more than meets the eye in regards to Katya and Jack sleeping together...

^^^Yeah, nice how they just blew over that whole plot point (Jack and Katya lovin').
On other boards - Alias boards - everyone is speculating about how much or how little of the show's events has been orchestrated by Jack. Just like when we found out that Sloane had orchestrated taking down the Alliance and all that song and dance to get out of SD-6 before that all went down to be with Emily.
What is frustrating about this show is that everything almost anyone ever says could always end up being a lie. So, you never freaking know. I still think there's way more to Sydney's memory wipe than what the show told us in January. Anyway....

I don't think that Jack is bad at all. But he does some shaddy stuff that he hides from Sydney. But just remember,EVERYTHING that he has ever done, no matter how mad Sydney gets at him, has always been for her own good. It's always to protect her. So whatever is on those documents, Jack has been hiding them to protect her from something.
As far as the memory loss, I think that there defenitly is more there than what meets the eye. The show does lie to us, and they only tell us what they want us to know. So I would bet that the memory loss story they gave us was all BS. I think it was the CIA all along that wiped her memory, and the whole season has just been made up to hide the truth from sydney.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Everything you just said there. :thumbsup
As for the papers, it's hard to say. I think Jack knew about Nadia well before Syd found out about her and probably well before Sloane found out about her too. I'm also wondering if he's connected to Bill Vaughn somehow, if Syd and Nadia aren't coincidentally spies. It's hard to spec on this - it always ends up making my head hurt. :BANG

Yeah - who is a Rambaldi descendent and who isn't?? If the green goo works on Nadia b/c she's the passenger, but also because she's a Rambaldi descendent......isn't Syd a descendent too?? And if so, is it b/c of Irina only?? And what the hell is up with Irina anyway?? Where is she and if what Lauren said in the fight had any merit, asking Syd if she really thought her mom was *helping* her during those two years and why hadn't she heard from her at all, is Irina even alive....is she in prison....has Jack actually been talking to Irina on IM or has it been maybe Katya???
Rambaldi......geez.......where to begin??? He's a crazy prophet guy from like 600 years ago who a) figured out how to develop advanced technology, like cell phones, and to keep flowers alive for 600 years and b) predicted all kinds of stuff like the dates and times of people's deaths (like clockmaker Syd went to see in Season 1 who got shot by a bullet meant for Syd) and dates and times of catastrophic events, like those that set off World War I and II and the exact moment Sloane read some scroll that was supposed to have told him about Nadia. Two other prophecies involve Syd and Nadia.
Edited to say: Also, there have been a few clues that may or may not suggest that Rambaldi is actually still alive. Whether that means "his essence" like Sloane told Nadia or what is yet to be seen.

after they told you what the machine was at the end of season 2 (el dire), everyone thought rambaldi was all done. i remember a poll on the ABC website that asked if you thought we'd ever see him again. then kendall unloads on sydney on the plane, you find out about the passenger, and now the sphere. i think rambaldi is the ultimate endgame of sloane, jack, the covenant, irina/catya, and ultra-black sections of the CIA(The Trust, DSR, ect.)
rambaldi is, to quote ziggyosk, macked out of my nuts. i wouldnt doubt it if he was alive somewhere or already living among everybody. wiess? jack? sloane? irina(the worlds first sex change)? who the hell knows. or maybe rambaldi chose not to live because he knows something crazy is going to happen when sloane puts together the entire "rambaldi puzzle."

Jack was betrayed by the person he loved and trusted the most, Irina. The same thing has happened to Vaughn, so my opinion is that he is "living through Vaughn" in a sense. He is having Vaugh do something that he hasn't and/or couldn't do.

Could be. Or maybe thats just what they want us to think. Or maybe he was using Lauren in some capacity, and realized her usefullness was done. Or he knew Lauren knew about whatever was on those documents, and she could spill the beans to sydney. So in order to keep Sydney from finding out what she eventually did at the end, he wanted Lauren Dead.

All definite possibilities. My answer was the most obvious (IMO), so its probably not right knowing Alias. I'm sure there's a deeper motive.

Jack Bristow does nothing out of emotion. i highly doubt he has a soft spot in his heart for vaughn just because they went through similar situations. if jack was indeed laurens "master" and had incriminating information on jack, it would be in jacks best interest to kill her. however, manipulating vaughn into doing it for him is better.
jack knew exactly how to play off of vaughns feeling of betrayal and anger. afterall, he had had thm once before. somebody mentally weak (vaughn) could be easily used to do jacks bidding.
the question is what did lauren know? she knew the lockbox # and location. this would lead us to assume that she knew what was on the documents. i'd bet my nuts that lauren, knowing the location, would be driven by curiosity to look at the documents. so she knew what jack knew. she knew the documents would hurt sydney somehow.
ive got a headache.

I don't think Lauren knowing Jack's secret necessarily means she was working for him. This is what is gonna be the good or bad part of this "Jack is in charge of the world" thing. I love this storyline b/c it always pissed me off how Sloane was always one step ahead of Jack - Irina too for that matter.
Do y'all think Lauren answered to him, because I'm not really thinking so. aybe I'm just hoping it isn't true. Extracting her for two years is one thing, but the idea he could have sent Lauren to Vaughn....I don't think Jack is Covenant. Maybe he knew about it and couldn't stop it. Maybe he didn't know though, since he was "in prison". Maybe he wasn't in prison. Ouch - I hurt myself again.

Pretty sure he says it to Haladki, or however you say that guy's name, and later on - or maybe in the next episode - he kills him b/c he's trying to find out where Syd and Will are. Haladki was a CIA mole who used to cause a ruckus about Vaughn being too close to Syd and lying to the CIA b/c he looooooooved Syd.
Interesting:
Warning!!! Potential spoiler: http://www.b2g3.com/boards/board.cgi?action=read&id=1085681551&user=alias
I wanted to post this but didn't b/c of potential spoiler. It was posted at Alias boards but later on, and even now, if you go check ABC - they changed that recap to be true to what the episode actually revealed (which was next to nothing). They've done this before with stuff those of us who read spoilers read was supposed to be in - but ABC never went back and changed it. I'll go find the link to that in case anyone wants to know.

Yeah I think you are right it was haladki. He was kasanow's mole in the CIA. Its pretty sweet if you think about it, Haladki was working for the convenent way back in the 1st season. He was working for Kasanow, and Mckennis cole was working with/for kasanow also.

Too late to edit my last post. I'll try to link to the ABC eppy description where they recapped Dixon telling Syd something about Vaughn in the hospital that the actual episode didn't show. And, if you think about it - even the characters sorta act like this information is known in episode 20 and 21. So, potential spoilers!!!!! http://abc.go.com/primetime/alias/missions/episode320b.html
(It's the first sentence of the paragraph above the last sentence of the recap. Last sentence of recap reads: "Sloane injects Nadia, strapped to a table, with the elixir. She convulses.")

Yeah - but we didn't actually get a SydDixon scene before Syd went in to talk to Vaughn in the hospital bed - she was just there. So, Dixon never actually told her that onscreen for us to see. Then, in episode 21, Vaughn says to Syd in the rotunda, "Whatever Lauren did to me...I hope we can work through it" or something close to that. Do you know what I mean?? Did it seem implied to you that Lauren had done some sort of Francie-Will thing to Vaughn?? B/c that rotunda line doesn't seem to go along with JUST being tortured by Lauren...ya know?? Hmmm....

from episode summary:
Dixon tells Syd that Vaughn shows evidence of psychological conditioning, thanks to Lauren. Syd visits Vaughn in the hospital. He says she must let The Passenger go and reveals the reason that Irina killed his father. He relays a prophecy: The Passenger and The Chosen One will battle and neither will survive. Syd is unmoved.
thats weird. i always wondered how vaughn knew about "the passenger and chosen one battling to the death" prophecy. if he was psychologically tortured by lauren, she may have told him then. that may mean that the prophecy is a lie lauren made up to try and break vaughn. if vaughn thought sydney would be at risk when she found the passenger, he might give up the location. how else would vaughn have known the location?
do you understand? if not ill try and explain better.

Yeah - I hear ya. That's a really interesting take on it, b/c I took it as Vaughn getting all that info from Brill who he went to go see before Sark and Lauren captured him and took him to be tortured. We never saw the end of the Brill conversation. He just told Vaughn something about his dad having died protecting Nadia and then it was like "flash of vaughn's face in anguish" and then cut to another scene. Then later, Vaughn is spouting out all that info and it could have just as well come from Lauren and Sark. Who knows!
I also always pictured the conditioning to have been like during his sleep, like Francie did to Will, but maybe that isn't the case. I wonder if they'll address it next season.

Remember though that ABC removed it - I'm wondering if they'll still go in that direction. I'm sorta thinking they will. Suit and Glasses!!!! He tortured Marshall too - he was supposed to be building the Echelon software for Suit and Glasses but he really just wrote a Ping Pong game program. Ha!!! Who he works for is a good question - since he was giving Nadia Rambaldi juice, he must have been a Rambaldi Follower or a part of a group of them. He's been around throughout all the changes from one bad-guy-group to the next. Have to think about that one...

Since he was giving Nadia the Rambaldi Juice when she was a little kid, he must have been working for someone. I highly doubt he is tight enough to have been doing it himself. Since we are told that sloane didn't know he had a kid until two years ago, that leaves only 2 options likely options:
Irina or
Jack

I've typed a Suit and Glasses post twice and my computer or internet or something keeps messing it up. So, I'll do it again later. In the meantime - USA Today had an article about the ten reasons to watch TV. I think it was on May 30th. Guess who was on the list???? :) Our Jack B, of course.
It's from Robert Bianco and this excerpt is from sd-1.net:
There may be weeks Sydney would rather not have Jack around, but Alias couldn't do without him.
The sillier the plots become, the more important Garber is as the series' grounding force. His concern for Sydney heightens the drama, and his ability to switch gears to a cold, calculated ruthlessness fuels many of the show's best surprises. He plays Alias' most complex character with deceptive ease.
And if the cliffhanger is any clue, Jack will be even more vital next season. I can think of few actors better able to shoulder the load."
Okay, back to Suit and Glasses....

The thing about Suit and Glasses is that if we picked one person who we already know that he might work for, it doesn't seem to match up across all his appearances. When Will was captured, S&G tortured him but Jack was the one who rescued Will. So, it would seem that it wasn't Jack. When Marshall was abducted and with S&G, Irina was in CIA custody and only later used the Echelon program to contact her superiors.
Sark was too young to have been involved with him when he was feeding Nadia the Juice and Sloane could have been behind it, except that he was not supposed to have known about Nadia until many many years later. Maybe he's just in some Rambaldi group, a group that has changed over the years and had different persons leading the hunt?? Oh, and then there's Katya. I'm tired now.

he could have been part of a group of rambaldi followers. I think it was most likely Irina/katya. I think they are both working together so if he worked for one he worked for the other. The part about irina being in jail when S&G had marshall doesn't really matter because he might not have still been working for irina, just 20 years ago.

Yeah - that's true. I also think it's probably Irina/Katya. I was looking at an episode 21 transcript - where Vaughn and Syd go confront Suit and Glasses and they said that Dr. Lee was the lead scientist in charge of Russia's Passenger experiments. So, he must have at one time been KGB like they were. (Or I assume Katya is/was.) Which reminds me, why did Katya turn evil all of a sudden??

^^^Maybe so. Sometime I'll have to sit down and really think about this whole Katya being evil thing. I say that perhaps they are at each other's throats just because it makes no sense to me WHATSOEVER that, if they were close and working together, she'd try to shoot Syd in the head. I know Irina shot Syd too, but, that was in the shoulder - not a sneak bullet to the brain.
Here's something on ratings that looks at the actual Sunday night breakdown from Zap2it via http://sd-1.net/index.php?showtopic=30360 on the 2nd to last eppy of the season (21 - Legacy):
Zap2it news:
The first hour of "10.5" scored an 11.6/18 to move NBC into first. CBS was second with the 8.1/12 first hour of the movie "The Book of Ruth." ABC's "Alias" had its standard 5.4/8 for third place, beating FOX's double dose of "Malcolm in the Middle." On The WB, the finale of "High School Reunion" did a 2.0/3.
(Sd-1.net poster) Thatīs good news, remember that blood ties got 5.2 in Zap2it and 6.8 in Mediaweek, Legacy got 5.4 and 6.9. This rating is the best of last 7 episodes of Alias (since Blowblack), itīs almost in the average of first episodes of S3, S2 and S1, that is 5.8 on Zap2it.
But, the season finale won the timeslot and maybe even the night with the 18-49 demographic.

Cool Vartan article. Lucky bastard.
By Richard Deitsch
Sports Illustrated writer-reporter Richard Deitsch recently interview Michael Vartan, the 35-year-old star of Alias and avid L.A Kings and Mets fan. Here's more of their conversation:
SI: Your list of female co-stars includes Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner. What did you do in a previous life to become so fortunate?
Vartan: I must have been a coal miner in the late 1800s in Pennsylvania somewhere and either the mine collapsed or I died of black lung. But put Jennifer Garner at the top of that list.
SI: You can be one hockey player for one day. Who would you choose?
Vartan: Can I have two? I'd choose Wayne Gretzky, just to be able to play hockey and have everything around me be in slow motion. And anyone on the L.A. Kings. If you cut me, I bleed purple.
SI: What NHL player's game is closest to yours?
Vartan: I'm definitely not the biggest guy; I'm more of a playmaker. I think "pass" before "shoot." I'm certainly not going to say Gretzky because having both our names in the same sentence would be blasphemous. How about Alexei Zhamnov?
SI: Best guy you've played with or against?
Vartan: Without a doubt, [former NHL player] Glenn Anderson. I played with him at the All-Star Game when it was here in L.A in 2002.
SI: Your greatest athletic moment?
Vartan: When I was 14 years old I played soccer in France and tried out for a pro team called Paris St. Germain. I was accepted into the farm system as a goaltender but my father didn't want to drive from our village so I never got a chance to play for the team. So that was my greatest moment, being OK'd by a pro soccer team. I honestly think that had the cards been dealt differently that's what I would be doing right now. I'm not saying I could be [Fabian] Bartez but I believe without a shadow of a doubt I could have played second division or maybe first.
SI: You once said in an interview that you like healthy, corn-fed women who aren't afraid to have a steak, drink a cosmopolitan and enjoy life. Do you look for the same qualities in a hockey player?
Vartan: The corn-fed part, yes.
SI: What's your Stanley Cup prediction?
Vartan: I like Calgary. The Flames have a blue-collar team and they're fast. I think Jerome Iginla is the best player in hockey. Everything changed when he dropped the gloves with Derian Hatcher in the Detroit series. Being a Kings fan I've always hated the Flames, especially back in the late 1980s when Joel Otto and Doug Gilmour and Mike Vernon were stoning us. I think Calgary in six against Tampa Bay.
SI: What kind of athlete would do well on Alias?
Vartan: I think any hockey, football or basketball player because of all the running and physicality of the show. Golfers and bowlers would have a harder time.
SI: Why are all the women in our office much more interested in my interview with you than they were in my conversation with Tim Russert?
Vartan: I guess it's amazing how much more handsome you get when you're on TV.
SI: The "HOCKEY . . . GET IT? GET IT!" campaign began airing in October 2003, and has starred Jim Belushi, Denis Leary, Kiefer Sutherland, Shania Twain and now you. How would that group do against a bunch of beer-league players?
Vartan: Well, I'll say Denis is not a bad hockey player at all. He's played in our game once or twice and he's pretty good. Belushi, I don't if he's good. I doubt Shania plays at all. But if they fed me the puck, I think we'd do all right.
SI: Who is the best Hollywood type you've played hockey with?
Vartan: David E. Kelly.
SI: How does a tough guy like you own a dog named Millie?
Vartan: She's a chocolate lab. I was going to get a male dog and call it Metro -- short for the New York Metropolitans and a wink to the French subway system -- and Astro is my favorite dog character in cartoons. But then one of my friends said, "Dude, is your dog a metrosexual so that ruined it for me." Then I was going to call it Stanley in honor of Lord Stanley's Cup, but I ended up with a girl and called it Millie.
SI: Men's Fitness Magazine named you one of Hollywood's Top 10 Toughest Guys. Where does honor rank with, say, an Oscar or a Golden Globe?
Vartan: I think it actually will be below the Golden Toilet. I'm certainly not a tough guy. I'm a lover not a fighter.
SI: When we interviewed Kiefer Sutherland, Denis Leary and Cuba Gooding Jr.in this same space and asked who the best celebrity player is, how come none of them mentioned Michael Vartan?
Vartan: Because they hadn't played with me at the time.
SI: How often do you play?
Vartan: I haven't playing much lately because of the movie I'm making. But when I'm not working I play Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Priorities, man.
SI: How much are you lobbying the writers to be able to show off your hockey skills on Alias?
Vartan: I do it all the time. We've shot three on-ice scenes and it's one of the few times I feel like a professional hockey player because I'm getting paid to skate around the ice.
SI: You are frequently the source of tabloid fodder. Ever have a ridiculous rumor about you that involves sports?
Vartan: Unfortunately, no. I would welcome any ridiculous rumor involving sports. Apparently, I've been married two times and pregnant once.
SI: What's more difficult: Taking a bodycheck in a celebrity hockey game or getting naked in front of Robin Williams as you did in One Hour Photo?
Vartan: Well, definitely getting naked in front of Robin Williams because there is no checking in celebrity hockey.
SI: You briefly made a career as a pool hustler. How good were you?
Vartan: That was sort of a product of not being able to get arrested as an actor and I thought what better way to give my money to strange people with strange names like Baltimore John and Filipino Phil. I was pretty good. I think if I really stuck to it I could have maybe made a small living at it. But I really didn't have the killer instinct. My game was good but my hustling was terrible. My handle -- and this is embarrassing -- was The Poodle. There was a guy named Hollywood Jack who said: "You play nine ball like a bulldog but play one pocket like a poodle.'" The next day I walked into the pool hall and some guy said, "Hey, Poodle, you want to play?'"
SI: True or False: You were playing hockey during this year's Golden Globes ceremony?
Vartan: I was indeed. Then I had a quick shower, stepped into a phone booth and put on my rent a tux, and met my girlfriend [Alias co-star Jennifer Garner] for a couple of drinks. What a Sunday night, huh?

Holy crap - Scott Foley is HOTTTTTT.
Anyway - hmmm - speculating about Jack's role in Syd's two years. I can't decide if he was behind it or if he just found out about it before anyone else. It would be really interesting if he was behind it - but damn - he better have a good freaking reason for it!! I mean, it seems like it would be the latter because it is logical to conclude that The Covenant took Syd in order to get her help to find her sister eventually..even though it apparently took them 2 years to do that...... :ugh:
Okay, maybe it's not so logical. Even if it were logical, though, then it would seem that it couldn't be the reason because this show is never LOGICAL. :) I just hope they give us a few answers, just a FEW, and not make us wait until mid-season to pretend-answer questions, like they did with that whole Kendall telling Syd where she was thing that really seemed like it was missing about 10 pieces of the puzzle.

I'm sure Marshall will come back - they can't do that. Plus, who on this show hasn't nearly died once or twice??
I think a good question is, who will be a double agent next season and will they be evil? I mean, it used to be Syd. Then there was Francie/Allison (not exactly a double "agent" though), then there was Lauren. Seems like it could be Jack. Maybe he's a Covenant mole for the CIA. Maybe we'll find out what/who the F@*# the Covenant actually is.

That's true. It's in an episode too, from Season 1. When they pull out that video tape of Irina and the guy who also supposedly died in the same car accident - it was her debrief upon returning to the KGB. She says his name in it. Glad he goes by Jack b/c Jon just doesn't have the same ring to it, in this particular case. ;)
Weiss gives Syd a first edition Alice in Wonderland book in the 2nd or 3rd eppy of Season 3. The 47 thing - people find it everywhere. Someone posted the other day at an Alias board "Jack = 4 letters, Bristow = 7 letters so Jack Bristow = 47." Now that could be stretching it!

06-08-2004, 01:24 AM
Hmmm...I can see how someone would have theorized that, as there's been a lot of speculation about Syd's and Nadia's Phrophecy roles being switched. But, I've never jumped onto that train of thought. I think there needs to be clarification with the Prophecy (original one) b/c of the whole Mt. Subasio thing....but that's another story.
But, Nadia is like 6 years younger than Syd. Also, Syd looks an awful lot like Irina!! The 47 of SAB 47 HAS to be significant though, right? They can't just throw it in with all its significance...right? So, was she the 47th Spybaby made to test projects on? Or is the 47 a straight up Rambaldi reference, as in, Jack knew she was a Prophecy baby? If he did....how could he have?
Talula62
06-08-2004, 01:35 AM
^^^^Add on: Thing is, Jack couldn't have known Syd would be a ProphecyBaby unless he knew Irina was Irina and not Laura. But, if Irina disappeared in 1981, and Jack and Irina were together for 10 years (since 1971) and Irina had deceived him for 5 years....that would make it 1976 that Jack found out Irina was KGB. Syd was already born.

06-10-2004, 06:27 PM
My thing is, I used to be one of the Lauren haters. Not really because of her being between Syd and Vaughn. I mean, I like Syd and Vaughn alot, but they aren't why I watch. Besides that, I personally think love triangles are totally weak storylines. The monkeys running ABC were pushing the triangle, so the Alias sites say JJ has said.
Anyway - if I have any problem with Lauren it's that she's not the villian that Sloane and Sark are and so I find her unnecessary and a waste of my time. BUT, that isn't really about her - it's about how she's written. And I didn't invest in her. For whatever reason, I just didn't get into Lauren. Now, I'm wondering if it might be due to the fact that right before she went EVIL, I started reading spoilers. Any thoughts??
I ask because I've started reading transcripts of Season 3 eppys and I've gotten through the first four episodes - and they are SO good!!! So, maybe when I can watch the episodes all in a row again, I'll invest more into Lauren. Hmmm. Dunno.

Are you saying its because you read spoilers before the episodes came out?

Yeah, maybe because I knew she was going to be bad before she went bad and I knew ahead of time several other parts of her storyline....(gettin it on with Sark, orders to kill her dad, Vaughn's torture, that she'd do the revealing to Syd, for example). I guess it makes sense now - I mean, how could I have gotten into her character when I didn't care much to begin with and then knew all the good stuff ahead of time and was then never surprised?? I'm so dumb. Shoulda never read the spoilers!!!!
Anyway.... :)

Don't read spoilers.
I agree, but I'm also hypocritical because I've been reading a bunch of Star Wars III spoilers.
