WYA needs to be banned from the encore

:thumbsup I support this thread. That damn song encored Tweeter and night 2 Alpine last year. Poor selection and left me a bit upset.

I just wish they would have much more variations in openers, set and encore closers, get's so redundant and boring to the point that hearing Ants, Two Step, Watchtower, etc. don't have the same appeal when you hear them in the same slots all the time. Throw in a Warehouse, Nancies, LIOG, Jimi, any good jam to close with...if the band doesn't feel that they close well enough I'm sure they could add/alter/create new jam outros to respective songs. I wouldn't mind hearing WYA close a show maybe once every 5 to 10 shows I go to cause the variety is good, but as I'm nearing 30 shows over 6-7 years it gets harder to differentiate shows by the redundancy. I thought last year would be different seeing Pig close the first show, but my hopes aren't too high as they set into a 'comfort' set as the tours progress, just my thoughts...

All the boys are rocking and the lights are going. Man, that would be awesome! Not to mention that those first lyrics are totally perfect for an opener..."I walk into this room...all eyes on me now..." Great way to get a crowd going at the beginning of a show!

Bartender, LIOG, DIDO, SUAD, JTR, Pig, Last Stop all great ways to end an encore yet never make it to the encore usually. Dreaming Tree and YNK would make great first songs of the encore also.

i saw pig close the encore last year actually. it was opening night in columbus and it was a very nice suprise

Exactly. In the setlist game last summer I was able to pick 8/18 closers because there's no variation whatsoever.

I disagree. WYA are is a great closer with tons of energy. My only complaint is they close with it way too much, they really need to mix it up adn maybe close the main set with it, the encore or just don't play it in a two night stand. It has been overplayed in the last two years but I hope it doesn't disappear, just becomes less frequent. I really think they should only play Watchtower or WYA in a two night stand or maybe even do them mid-set. That wouls be very nice.

When you look at it from an independent viewpoint, it's actually a great song to closer out a concert with; powerful message and high, high energy..."pray down on your knees motherfucker!" If I went to any modern rock-type show and the band were to close with a song like WYA, it would be a fantastic ending, but it's just wrong for Dave. As intense as it is, it's just anticlimactic for a DMB show.

Still, I'd rather hear WYA than Halloween...Halloween is overrated as hell...feel free to tear me a new one for that comment, with excessive use of the :twak smily...it's all opinion man.

Yeah, I have to say that What You Are would absolutely kick my ass as an opener, but I think the encore closer should be reserved for some classic DMB tunes. Man, if they open Toronto with WYA, play a kickass set, then play SMTS->ASTB->JTR for the encore, I'd explode in my pants!

nah, it shouldn't. it's amazing in the encore. The WYA ---> Two Step encore is just sick.
