Hey, I played my first gig tonight at a local coffeeshop. I'd be interested to hear any good stories about maybe a best or worst set anyone has ever played. It was just me and my guitar and I've always wanted to post a setlist on here, so here's what I played...

Set One:
-Nine Out of Ten (Original) >
-Jack and Diane (John Mellencamp)
-Long Black Veil (Johnny Cash)
-OSW Intro (DMB) >
-Emily's Song (Original)
-A Pirate Looks at 40 (Jimmy Buffett)
-Nothin' but the Devil (Paul Thorn)
-Feature Presentation (Original)
-Breath > Time > Breath Reprise (Pink Floyd)
-Out in the End (Original)
-Redemption Song (Bob Marley)

Set Two:
-That's the Way (Led Zeppelin)
-35 & Back (Original)
-Dodo (Dave Matthews)
-Sapphire (Original)
-Angel From Montgomery (John Prine)
-Smile and Wave (Original)
-Tiny Dancer (Elton John) >
-Imagine (John Lennon)

Encore: (Yeah, I was asked to play more...)
-Red Hooded Sweatshirt (Adam Sandler by request)
-Holes to Heaven (Jack Johnson)

I had entirely too much fun and too much coffee...I'd like to hear any interesting stories from anyone else who'd like to share...

Well, I was/am in a band called the "Just Us League". No we are not a punk band. We were asked to play at a Houlihans in Monroeville PA. The idea was that we were going to be an opening band for another local band. At this time, we've only been together for a few weeks, and though we were becomming pretty tight, our set list was still microscopic. We had 6 songs, which we figured would be great for an opening band.

1) Bells and Whistles (Original)
2) Southside Summers (Original)
3) Badfish (Sublime Cover)
4) Slowride (Sublime Cover)
5) Black Eye (Bargain Music Cover)
6) Infection (Original)

The problem was that by the end of our last song, the crowd wanted us to keep on playing. Knowing that there was no way to pull of a complete song, we decided to play a random jam...a jam that somehow turned out to be a symphony.

7) Random Jam in G major > G minor > D minor > B major (Running Time 31:04 according to our recording)

Moral of the story...when you run out of material, VAMP!!!

Dodo went well. I wanted to play Gravedigger, but thought that might be a bit too morbid for a coffeehouse setting. I figured out a way to play both the Bb chord (rhythm) and repeating riff at the same time. For anyone interested, here's how I played that part.

-------------------------
--------------(H.O.)-----
--3--5--3--2--2--3--3---
--3--3--3--3--3--3--3---
--1--1--1--1--1--1--1---
-------------------------

And for the outro, the brass instruments do something like this
-----------------------(H.O.)----(H.O.)--(Slide)-------------
------------(H.O)---3--3--4---6--4--6---6-/-8--------------
-(H.O.)--3---3--5-------------------------------(H.O.)--3---
-3--5--------------------------------------------3--5------
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
I think that goes three times and the last time play:

----------------------------------------------------
--------------(Slide)--------------------------------
-(H.O.)---3---3-/-2-----(P.O.)-----------------------
--3--5--------------5---5--3------(P.O.)------------
-------------------------------5---5---3------------
--------------------------------------------6-------

Sounds good to me at least...hope that helps!
