Guitar setup needs/suggestions

Hey Guys. I've played out a lot at school and bars, but I've never had to provide my own equpiment. I'm curious as to what I need to play out. Mixers, speakers, amps, mic, etc. Got any suggestions? Can you guys list out what I need to play out, with some examples of good equipment (speakers, mixers in particular). Thanks guys.

How big of a place do you want to play?

Fender makes some small all-in-one kits that will fill a small room/coffee shop.

Just a small area, like coffee shops, patios in front of stores, etc.
