DVD question/help

I did a search, but am still confused. I am interested in collecting DVD's of shows, but my main source for a dvd player is my playstation 2. How do I know what dvd's to use, or are there any dvd's that are compatible with this system. thanks

my friend has a PS2 and it plays fugi, tdk, maxell, apple -r discs
those are the only ones i have taken over there, so it prob plays others but i have not 100% answer on other brands

there are 3 different drives for the ps2 though, depending on which you have you might have better or worse luck with discs, and i am not sure how you tell which you have either
