they are different formats is all (the best ex is Beta & VHS)
they both work good and play good IF your player/burner uses them

most players that are new will play -r, a good majority will play +r
more and more burners that are new burn both

so the question is what will your player play AND if you have a burner will it burn both or just one of the formats
hopefully your player and burner work together so you can burn and play whatever you want

the "best" discs are maxell, tdk, fuji, verbatim, apple

This site has alot of info, as well as the compatibilty list, so you can find out which format your home DVD player can play.

"...understand that the media brands means nothing. Apple is a great brand, but they do not make their own discs, instead outsourcing to MXL (Maxell), MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals), and PVC (Pioneer). Verbatim has become infamous by switching from high-quality MCC to ultra-cheap CMC (CMC Magnetics) media. Companies like Memorex, Fuji and Imation all outsource to media vendors."

Fujifilm is the only one on that list with all good media codes, so that's the only brand you can stick with and consistently get good media.

if you read down more it says, 1st rate media = maxell, pioneer, tdk, mcc
it also continues by saying apple uses (maxell & mitsubishi) mxl & mcc
tdk, maxell, pioneer of course
seem to be the best, they are all higher then fuji and in the 95-100% burn rate

now the burn rate also is impacted by the playability rate
maxell 78%
tdk 75%
apple 73% (older verbatims too, apple used to use verbatim discs as well)

Yeah, I was mainly pointing out that Verbatim switches a lot so you have to watch out. Fuji's are on sale for $80 this week at Best Buy and you're almost guaranteed good discs.

My burner can handle both types, but if you had to choose between buying a 50 pack of dvd-r OR dvd+r....
Which standard would you choose to start trading with the DMB community here??

Or put another way.... what standard is in the majority when B&P requirements are posted?

Any help appreciated.....thanks!
