Yeah Jorge has always been average at best. He lost something like 15, 16 lbs. before this season. He really wanted to inprove his reaction time and throwing from behind the plate.
His throwing has improved obviously, since he's having his best season to date throwing people out, and his versitility has improved in blocking the plate and blocking the wild pitches (just watching him everyday you can tell he's moving around much better then the years past) but that play today was :ugh :freak :BANG for sure.

So, NESN is reporting that David Ortiz is coming back to Boston for more tests because the irregular heartbeat that showed up during the Yankees series has now come back. If this is serious the Sox are in some trouble, and I mean next year, their season is already done this year.

The Boston Globe
August 28th 2006
Roxbury MA (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Boston courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his
Parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.
After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Boston Red Sox, whom the boy firmly believes is not capable of beating anyone.

Had everyone stayed healthy we would be in it, and are a better team than the Yankees, but our entire pitching staff has been injured pretty much all year. The Yankees just have Matsui and Sheffield injured and face it, they don't really make a huge difference. Their offense never suffered. If they had their staff injued and their captain they wouldn't be where they are now, that's a fact.

Wow. You're strugglin now man. Both Matsui and Sheffield last played on May 29. Last season the two combined for 239 RBI. Nixon and Varitek have both played over two months LONGER this season than the two Yankees. Last year they combined for 137 RBI. 102 runs between the duos. And I'd say the Red Sox pitching woes have been more along the lines of who's in your personnel. Sure the losses of Wakefield and Clement hurt, but your top 2 starters have been healthy all season. I hope you don't hate me for invading your thread where you like to bash the Yankees, just throwing some pure numbers out there for you....

Tek means more to the Sox than Sheff or Matsui mean to the Yankees, it's fact. Just like ARod or whoever may put up bigger numbers than Jeter (not this year) but Jeter is your most important player....
Basically with Matsui and Sheff instead of the Yanks winning 6-3, you would win 7 or 8-3. You'd still win, just by a bigger margin. The Red Sox have had Wakefield, Clement, Wells, Foulke injued all year...Foulke sucks now cause of injuries..Face it.
How can you say Matsui and Sheff are that important to the Yankees offense when you still have the best offense even without them in the lineup lol?

I just told you, 239 RBI. That's 239 runs the Yankees have to find from some other source; of course the offense suffers. Using your theory, we'll take Wednesday night's game vs. the Tigers. Instead of losing that game 5-3 without Matsui/Sheffield, it's tied at 5, and we see what happens in the 10th. I don't think that logic is quite on point. And the Yankees have been fortunate to find Melky Cabrera this season, I was pretty sure they would give up on him after last season. And Abreu looks like he's been in New York his entire career.
Varitek may mean more to the Sawx than any other player as a symbol; but as a player, he's only OK. Am I downgrading him too much? Not sure. Maybe I'm not giving him his due; in 2004, after all, the guy hit .296. Hm. The point is yes, of course the Yankees offense has suffered this year. It has just been fortunate enough to be able to fill the holes efficiently. Remember, we played a big chunk of the season this year with an outfield that looked like Melky Cabrera, Johnny Damon, and Bernie Williams. Or Aaron Guiel. Or Bubba Crosby. With the exception of Damon (and Cabrera recently), not too many runs are coming from those guys.
And I've totally overlooked the loss of Robinson Cano for a month and a half. In that spot we had Miguel Cairo playing, and we both know about the infamous Nick Green argument. Same deal here, Cairo not producing too many runs, is he? Is Nick Green scoring any runs?

Comeback win with a walk off homer in the 10th by none other than Willy Mo Pena. Returns of Ramirez, Nixon, and Varitek.
Once we get Papi back things will be back for the offense. The pitching will just have to gut it out. We're only 6 games out of the Wild Card race.

That's pure speculation. And no your offense hasn't struggled, the Yankees have the most lethal lineup in baseball without Sheffield, and Matsui. I am not downgrading what they do with a bat, but when it comes down to it, the Yankees offense is still the best without them this year. For you say games that you lost by 2 runs or whatever are guaranteed wins if they are in the lineup is MORONIC. Those runs that were scored could have been atributed to people taking their places, so then they would jut balance out. Whatever though, you are right every game y'all lost by a run or two would automaticaly be wins if they were in the lineup :lol :rolleyes :lol :lol :rolleyes

Pedroia should be good. if you look at his minor league numbers, he's a great hitter.
the one place were you should be really scared is the bullpen. You have no definite closer, and although closing is overrated, you still need one. Piniero was good outta the pen last year but no way would i trust him closing. Timlin? Hansen? Delcarmen? i even heard Tavarez name!

The Red Sox and agent Scott Boras continued to discuss the J.D. Drew situation throughout last week, but no resolution has been reached yet.

Lugo was a defensive upgrade with a little better offense than what we had last year with Gonzalez/Cora. He isn't our J.D. Drew upgrade. He's the one who you watch at the plate.
Now if you mean his strikeout means he has little expectations from fans, then yes, that's true. And that is good. So he doesn't have pressure on his ass like Renteria had.

Lugo was a defensive upgrade with a little better offense than what we had last year with Gonzalez/Cora. He isn't our J.D. Drew upgrade. He's the one who you watch at the plate. So you basically just talked out of your ass on this one eh? Or were you being serious?

2006 Statistics:
Alex Gonzalez - 99 Hits with a .255 Batting Average
Alex Cora - 56 Hits with a .238 Batting Average
Julio Lugo (Tampa Bay and LA Combined) - 122 Hits with a .278 Batting Average
Hell, Lugo hit two more home runs than Gonzalez and Cora combined last year. I'm not talking out of my ass. I'm talking statistics. Statistics that tend to prove true during a season, not just a one day stand. Stats don't measure clutch situations, but Cora and Gonzalez weren't meant for that. Nor will Lugo. I'm just sayin'...

Don't judge on a season. Look at career stats, where he's hitting in the lineup. He's a great OBP guy, and has a ton of speed on the basepath, which is what this team needed on offense. He brings a lot more on offense than A-Gon and Cora could ever hope to bring...

It's definitely frustrating when you have an ace like Daisuke pitching his ass off and we don't get any run support. Kinda reminds me of what happened to Pedro his last few years with us. I remember several instances where Pedro would have an amazing game, but we'd leave him hanging with no run support. What can I say? It just sucks when that stuff happens.

I would have to agree with you, although it's not because Willy Mo's a substandard player. We already have a center fielder (Coco) that gets a helluva lot of playing time, which leaves only a few starts and ABs for Pena. Pena puts up decent numbers (I'm watching the O's Bos game now and just got a lead off double), and would be a great addition to the starting line-up, but I fear that he won't get the time on the field he deserves.

Everyone has an off day every now and then. He can't be perfect all the time. But I'm glad I wasn't home watching the game.

Soooo, I'm trying to buy tickets for tomorrow night's game on redsox.com... I had a pair of tickets, but then searched for three and it gave me the big red message "ticket services is currently unavailable."
Does this happen every night in the 11:00 hour? How long does the maintenance go on?

Beckett's cruising. He's gotten so much more confident this year. He's not trying to just overpower everyone. He's using his off-speed pitches more and he's trusting Tek more. Plus the offense is playing when he's on the mound, he is definitely the front-runner for the Cy Young right now...

Tomorrow is my anniversary, so I got the lady friend some Sox tickets as a present.
She thinks we're sitting in the Outfield Bleachers, but I got us Field Box 62 seats. :)
Damn, nice man.
How'd you score those??

I just got a new job that pays very well, so I splurged on Stub Hub.
Normally I don't support companies like that, but I couldn't get tickets through redsox.com
Just got back from the game.
It was wicked cold!
Great game all the way.

Yes, very fun game... Coco's catch in the ninth inning was so awesome!
I'm really looking forward to the Orioles series next weekend, I hope I can find a ticket or two!

well just got back from minneapolis. and the game on saturday was a tough loss but tavarez pitched really well while santana didn't. and then my friends and i decided to go to the game today and that was a great decision. we scalped tickets and got some really good seats. exciting game. finally got to see okajima, schilling, and papelbon pitch! it was great. drew came alive. and let me tell you pedroia was on fire. i should go to all the games because i think i am a good luck charm for him. i think he was 5-6 over the two games we went to and raised his average like 60 points.
anyways it was a really fun weekend. just thought i would let you konw!

The Yankees would never sign a player like this to such a ridiculous contract....:rolleyes
Sorry, that's not exactly right. Mondesi, Pavano, come to mind. OK, sorry. Forget I said anything....

yeah last night was a pretty uneventful game. pretty boring, but today's game was everything i had hoped for. i was on the first base side so i got to watch all the pitchers warm up it was great.
and the only good thing about saturday night was that we met up with some people afterwards and had a nice time so that was good! :)
