Nice playing today, Hinske finally did something good actually two things with that amazing catch and 2 run shot. glad to see the Red Sox doing so well. They have no bullpen, we'll win the next series at home.
I really want some retaliation for Rodriguez taking out Pedroia, but we would have to be careful because we don't need any suspensions or anything.

LESTER'S ROAD TO RETURN A LITTLE SHORTER
PAWTUCKET, RI | May 25, 2007 -- You’d think there’d be an exciting game at McCoy last night – Jon Lester is on the hill against the Syracuse Chiefs. The Boston media, enticed to The Farm thanks to Lester’s start and an off day for the Big Club, crowds the press box in eager anticipation. Hazel Mae makes an appearance: Farm Report’s heart goes pitter-patter.
But Lester, on a 70-75 pitch count, is so good it’s almost not newsworthy. After two innings he’s mowed down the Syracuse Chiefs in 17 pitches. His evening ends after the fifth, having thrown 65 pitches, 39 for strikes, and giving up one run for a no-decision in an eventual 3-2 victory for the home team.
Jon Lester is going to be back, and when he is, heaven help the rest of the American League.
How did Lester feel after the game?
“Good,” said Lester. “Everything came out well, and the forearm feels fine.”
Lester’s outing clearly positioned him a step or two closer to a return, but the young lefty is not yet circling a date on the calendar. “I don’t really know [when I’ll be back]…I felt good, my legs were under me through the whole five innings. It’s getting better – now I just need to get up to 90-100 pitches and see where we’re at then.”
Lester’s manager for the present, Ron Johnson, saw no downside to his performance.
“Jon’s got good stuff,” the PawSox manager said. “He’s got a good finish on his fastball, commanded pretty good in the upper half of the zone. I think as a hitter, you think you’re going to get to [the ball] and all of a sudden it gets a little giddyup and you get pop flies…he repeated deliveries, he was free and easy – he felt good.”
The only restriction Lester faced was on his cut fastball. His repertoire was restricted to three pitches: four-seam fastball, curve, and change-up. “They [the Sox front office] said we didn’t want to mess around with it,” said Lester. “They think it had an effect on some cramping and fatiguing in there, so they just want me to rely on other stuff right now.”
The one run that Lester surrendered over his five innings actually raised his ERA to 1.62. Over his four starts he’s struck out 13 and walked only five in 16 2/3 innings. At this point, if there were any lingering questions about “if,” they’ve been answered. It certainly seems like the more appropriate question is “when.”
“If it was up to me, I’d have been up there a long time ago,” said Lester. “They make the decisions, they set the schedule - I just pitch.” -- By Gary Jacobs, Boston Dirt Dogs contributor.

Tavares isn't so hot in the pen though, is he? I mean, he isn't so hot anywhere.
You already have probably the best 1-2 punch in the pullmen, which, given the strength of your rotation, is probably enough.

I meant it as the eyes looking up (as if it was looking at the above post), not the eye roll! I'm totally stoked that Lester should be back soon, for many reasons. One of course, is to strengthen the already strong rotation and bullpen, next is because of what he's been through this past year. It'll be one heck of a day when he returns to Fenway!!!

GavMan33

And there's Pedro throwing down Don Zimmer. Pedro pointing at his head as if he wants to throw at Posada's head after just throwing at Garcia's head. And there's the douchebag rookie homeplate ump that doesn't have the balls to throw Pedro out of the game.
Sorry, I'll go back to my own thread now....
GavMan33
05-31-2007, 11:45 PM
I'm sorry, I don't have the self control. Here's my problem....
So Pedro's struggled a little bit. He's got no outs in the 4th inning. He gives up a walk, a single to put runners on first and third, and then a ground rule double to make it 2nd and 3rd, with one run in, to make it 3-2 Yanks. So he's clearly struggling. Gets a little angry at himself, and what does he do? He decides to blatantly throw at a player's head. He doesn't throw at his side, nothing. He throws at his head, very deliberately. At that point, he should be out of the game. Shouldn't be a question, should be out of the game.
Soriano, as he did just about every at-bat in that 03 playoffs, hits into a double play, scoring another one, to make it 4-2. There's an altercation at 2nd base, between no-name Todd Walker, and Garcia. I don't know, maybe he "pulled an A-Rod", and Todd Walker got a little whiny about something. So now Todd Walker gets into it. As Garcia's walking off, he and Pedro get into it again. Rightfully so, as the guy just threw at his head. Now Zimmer's out of the dugout, giving this douchebag rookie ump a piece of his 55 years of baseball experience. Pedro's on the mound, looking at the Yankee dugout, pointing at his head. As in "I got no problem throwing at your head either." And you guys thing Alex Rodriguez has no class :rolleyes
So now Clemens comes out. Throws a pitch that AT BEST is slightly inside. It was definitely high, but not far off the plate at all. Well, everybody's favorite Right Fielder Manny has some depth perception issues, and thinks that Clemens just threw at him. So now he's walking out toward the mound, still holding his bat. So now the benches clear, thank you Manny Ramirez, and ultimately, thank you Pedro Martinez.
So now Don Zimmer is fuming. He inexplicably B-lines right for the Red Sox dugout, and hunts out Pedro. Unfortunately he found him. Zim goes after him, Pedro takes him by the head and pushes him down. Now I have to laugh every time I see that replay. They got that closeup of Pedro as he sees Zim come toward him. All of a sudden his eyes get real big, and he's like "Oh shit." I can't blame Pedro for the reaction. Anybody comes at you, no matter who it is, you defend yourself. But you knew who it was. A 72 year old guy is not gonna hurt you too bad. All you have to do is push him aside a bit. But he takes him by the head, and takes him down. Pedro did not handle that well, but I put that blame on Zimmer, there was no need for him to do that.
So now, later on, the bullpen guy. He starts doing something out there, and pissing somebody off out there. He was starting something. So now something else happens out there, and he gets into it with a Yankee pitcher. So now Karim Garcia climbs over the wall. The stupid "Fenway employee" gets a couple cleat marks to the face. So he starts an altercation, and then he has the balls to sue two Yankees for "injuries" he received. What a bitch.
So yes, I've been writing this for about 40 minutes. But I needed to get that off my chest. Thank you for listening

The truly special thing about Curt Schilling's near-no-no today is that it was a 1-0 ballgame. One mistake can not only lose his no-hitter, but lose the game. Lots of added pressure there, aside from what he was probably already feeling. So props to Schilling, way to go :thumbsup

well manny is starting to heat up he is batting around .290 now. The only thing they need to change is Crisp and Lugo. They are both hitting under
.220. Lugo gets out evertime pretty much which is just embarrasing and same with Crisp usually. They never seem to get hits with man on base. Last night for example I was watching the game and the 1st, 2nd, and at least the 4th innings they had at least 2 guys on with only 1 out and couldn't get anything. Ben: "..you do this thing... it's so cute I wanna kill myself." I had a moment somewhat like that with my girl (we're on the outs as of late, but that's another story). I sit and watch every game on the big screen in the living room. When we first lived together, she would avoid the living room like a plague during Sox games. So one day on my way home from work I stopped by Lids and bought her a Sox hat, during the game I called her into the living room and told her to sit down, gave her the hat and said, "I think it's time you take part in the thing I love most in this world." She looked like she was going to cry and I told her there was no crying in baseball and we both laughed for about 20 minutes. Then she curled up on my lap and fell asleep by about the 3rd inning. She's just now to the point (a year later) where she can stay awake for the whole game...

She's just now to the point (a year later) where she can stay awake for the whole game...
thats pretty cool man, i had something like that as well. i moved her up from games on tv, to her first yankee game coming up in september. shes so excited. but i think i may be more excited for her, regardless if its fenway or yankee stadium, you never forget your first gaze towards the field, coming out of the tunnel. its priceless :thumbsup i wanted to ask you about the rockpile though. how is section 203, compared to 243? are they bad seats at all?

I'm in 244 and I'm sitting just to the right of the right goal post. 243 is just to the right of that. Neither are bad seats, I would say if you get the opportunity, get 203 because the corner seats have a better field view. But if you're looking for atmosphere and rowdiness, get 243 because 244 and 243 are the loudest, rowdiest sections in the entire stadium. We rock that shit...

ill be wearing my umeniyora jersey. i should probably fear for my life, huh? If you're wearing a visitors jersey, I would recommend 243 or 244, the other sections tend to have numerous fights throughout the game. The worst you'll get in our section is some heckling, but as long as you're not a dick if your team starts winning, you won't have anything to worry about in our sections. My buddy comes to the Dolphins game with me every year and he catches some shit, but never anything physical. I've seen some guys in visiting jerseys get pretty messed up in other areas of the stadium just because they're wearing the wrong colors. Sad, but true...

Also, Schilling going for an MRI today, we'll see how that works out. Good news though, this allows Beckett to finally take over the role of Ace, which he should have had since the start of this year...

So this guy's 10-1, the frontrunner for the AL Cy Young, and he's now the Ace of his own team because the other guy has to get an MRI? :rolleyes That doesn't make much sense to me. Beckett has owned this league all year....

^ but he has also pitched well the entire season. His ERA is just over 3.00 and goes out their and makes it able for his team to win, which is the most important thing for a pitcher is to give your team a chance to win.
That was a fun game to watch last night. Drew going out and then Coco too. His bat seems to be heating up a bit. I love it when the Red Sox get their bats going. And Tavarez just cracks me up the whole time he is out there. He has to be one of the goofiest players I have ever seen. Especially when he was batting and a couple of those plays in the field.

Red Sox Emerge As Top Buehrle Suitor
Here's something we didn't see coming. According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Red Sox have emerged as the frontrunner for southpaw Mark Buehrle. They've jumped ahead of the Braves and Mets on the strength of their farm system.
Cowley says talks between Buehrle and the White Sox regarding an extension are basically dead. Now Boston has taken center stage, even sending assistant GM Allard Baird to watch Buehrle's last start (a typical fine effort from him).
Cowley believes a major motivation for the Red Sox is keeping Buehrle away from the Yankees. The Red Sox would apparently give him a five year extension. Possible targets for Kenny Williams: Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Jed Lowrie. In my opinion: two of those guys, done deal. Buchholz is arguably the best pitching prospect in the minors, and would make White Sox fans forget about Buehrle fairly quickly.
Williams plans to sit back and listen to all offers first, of course. According to Cowley, at least seven teams have made serious contact.

I am not saying that I don't like Ellsbury because I do. He is fun to watch. All I am saying is that I feel that the Red Sox should stick with Coco the rest of the season, or at least for a while. I feel that Coco is starting to hit better, which would mean he would definitely stay because everyone has seen how well he plays defensively out in center field. When its all said and done though I can say almost 100% that Ellsbury will be the starter out there in a couple years.

2003 ALCS and NLCS were both incredible, and then of course 2004 was such a historical year, both in terms of final outcome and the way it played out, all the a-rod drama etc.
Neither of these teams would be who they are without the other, and I appreciate the Red Sox because of that. That doesnt mean I really like them, but I'll pull for them all the way down to the end of the line until we match up. Then I hate them with passion, the same way you guys hate us! :lol

It is very annoying when they do that, but I remember when they did it back in '98 when Sosa and McGuire were going after the season home run record. So it's not like they are treating Bonds any differently (i.e. specially). I just wish he'd up an retire on the spot (or the little devil in me wants him to get a career ending injury). I am so sick of him.

Man, Schilling had a great outing in AAA ball. Hopefully he'll be on his way back. With him back and the tandem of Gabbard and Lester, Tavarez moving back to the pen, and the rumored call-up of Ellsbury, we're going to be damn good heading down the stretch...

Alright, we got him 5 runs, that 2 run shot had to come, better now than when we're up 1. Hopefully now he can settle down, stop wondering when that first big shot is coming and give us 3 more innings. If he can give us 6 strong, I'll consider tonight a HUGE success for him..

that was nice to watch, and especially after that first inning when the sox scored 4 runs or whatever.
what a game for lester only really had one scare there in the 4th inning.
only thing i didn't like about the game was when manny hit the ball off the wall and he didn't start running till he got to first and only could get a single. next batter drew grounds into a double play. when manny should of been on third. but i guess thats just manny being manny but still stupid

great pitching game so far. but the red sox need to get a string of hits together here. not only to break the no hitter but because it sounds like this guy has a lot of scoreless innings but will give up the runs in just one or two innings.

jeeze i hate when that happens. beckett pitches great and the sox can't score. they didn't even get close tonight. and i hate not being able to watch nesn for some reason and then seeing and listening to the indians announcers that annoy me.

Oh right, he has to finish the 6th inning to get the win, crap! I'm not sure I want them to pull him and put Schill in just yet. I'd rather Schill pitch a few more rehab games - oh and keep his mouth shut too, that would be nice.

ha ha ha. actually you just have to finish the 5th inning to get credit for a win.
that homer by wily mo was sweet. and i have to say this because its sweet when it happens.....i called that homer right before he hit it, i said to myself that he was due and how about a 3 run homer. and first pitch line shot. that was sweet.

and just based on how gabbard lost his composure with the large lead i just feel that with lester back they will stick with him and win schill is ready they will drop gabbard. i feel that schill might have one or two more rehab starts but tonight he pitched 5 innings or something with like 8 k's. so i would say he is almost ready.

Outside of A-Rod; Manny is my favorite righty to watch hit. He continually amazes me. I know he kills the Yanks but that man can flat out rake with the bat. From a purely baseball standpoint he is a joy to watch - add in that he has never ever been mentioned in the same breath with steroids and it makes what he does even more remarkable. First ballot HOFer and a Red Sox player that I root for anytime he is playing someone other than the Yanks - Oh and Paps too I enjoy watching, he reminds me of Mo in 97/98 at this point. Youks too I guess, he's a good guy, and Lowell is one classy guy. Okay, so there's four Sox I like! :lol

Also, A-Rod is just amazing. I have enjoyed him since Seattle. He's just that good. When he came to NY I was ecstatic! I have been behind him since day one and it is damn annoying that all these same shitheads who have bashed him since 2004 are now singing his praises.
