:lol the difference being, of course, that lenny actually is exceptionally good at what he does...
(oh, and this is totally out of left field, but I finally bought the CP dvd...where do you make an appearance?)
I'm in wwys, I believe right after the first "mom it's my birthday", and then once or twice in the latter half of watchtower. I'm so beat though, I'd been up for well over a day and a half at that point, I'm kinda just standing there with a dead look on my face despite the obvious awesomeness of the experience.
oh yeah, and on the cd and/or dvd, if you hear people yelling "last stop!! (clap clap) last stop!! (clap clap) during the encore break, that's me and my friends :D

A lot of the sox players werent thinking 2nd on thursday night, or 2nd on friday night either...I did see a few sox players talking an awful lot of shit on wednesday, thursday...comments like "oh the yankees can hear us coming, we are in their heads, they can feel the pressure." Talking shit with a few wins under their belt...and then on sunday after the game it was.." Oh we are locked in for the wild card..." man what a difference a few days make.....But all in all...it was a great weekend for baseball the weather was good cept for Friday..and atleast there was no foul play...Can't wait for the playoffs.....

i feel like the sox "build up" the yankees too much in their minds and that is why they have trouble beating them.
although, when they announced the 3rd game, they were talking about how cool it was and how pedro doesn't always perform well in those situations. i knew the 2nd game with lowe could have gone either way, depending on how he was feeling.
it'll be nice in the next series to see schilling pitch against the yanks and see how we do.

chalk my statement up to personal opinion then. i just, personally, think that booing your team (this is a general "your", by the way) isn't going to help things at all, possibly even make them worse. then again, i'm a pretty sensitive person so i guess i'm just putting myself in their shoes.

See, I am a season ticket holder of the hated ny yankees, and its funny what the media want to show you, earlier in the year when Jeter was in a horrible slump, Sportscenter would show the fans booing...but what they didnt show you was every night 51,000 people were standing up cheering "Derek Jeter!, Derek Jeter!" he was like 1 for 36 at that point...but the whole crowd stood behind Derek, he got booed, but he also got cheered plenty during a really bad streak..every fan eventually boos because of frustration, You Boston fans are a different breed though, and I respect you for that...See we as Yankee fans realize that the payroll is absurd, so if all these guys that are making 15 million dollars to play baseball arent performing like their paycheck..we get more pissed, cause not only do we pay money to see this team, but we also hear all year long from fans of other teams that our payroll is ridiculous...so they shoudl atleast perform..me I didnt boo, I cheered Jeter throughout that whole slump, I mean how can you Boo Derek Jeter as a Yankee fan...man he could suck for the rest of his career, but I know I watched a special player, doing special things when it counted...Ahhh I smell October... :)

I say now what I said before the last series. I'm just hoping for a good, clean series, no brawls, no cheap shots, no head hunting.
I signed up three email addresses- I got denied for two, but haven't heard anything from the third...
And Kim going into the game last night... That was Francona throwing his arms in the air and conceding the AL East. I'm not even saying they could have done it, but playing Kim is giving up the fight and settling the the wild card.
Hell, one could make the same argument for Mendoza, but whatever.

oh believe me, i know that even if we sweep we'd still be 1.5 behind. but it's a lot more likely to gain 1.5 after this weekend, than it is to gain anywhere from 7.5-4.5.
and Rob is right, throwing Kim out there was a sign of weakness and lack of faith. i think Francona has done an excellent job so far this year, but by throwing Kim in there like he did showed that Francona didn't think we could come back from the deficit. but in actuality, if Kim didn't go in and we didn't give up those 2 runs, we would have had another extra innings game.
let's just hope he learned his lesson while there is still time.
Francona has been horribly inconsistant- I am not at all happy with him as a manager. He's essentially another Grady Little.
I will always go back to the game at Yankee Stadium- we're down by a run or something, and Ortiz ends up on first. He makes it all the way around to third, and THEN Francona replaces him with Kapler. This is the 7th or 8th inning in a close game. You don't wait until he's on THIRD to replace him- what good is Kapler? On a ground ball, either is out at home. On a long fly ball, either can score. There's about a 20 foot band of outfield where Kapler can score that Ortiz can't. So, of course, the Sox don't score that inning, we do later, go into extras, and Kapler makes a couple of key outs.
That's just one example, but he's been doing innane crap like that all season.
UJCdream
09-24-2004, 12:53 PM
he's certainly not the best Manager i've seen, but he helped get us where we are so i'm happy for that.
you're right though, he's had his faults. being late the punch on pinch running, taking Schilling out in the 8th when he was still clearly on fire and throwing in Foulke who almost lost the game, etc. but... i guess we'll just have to wait and see if he learned from his mistakes.

I have a problem with this statement...only cause...Yeah they should have taken him out..but I am sure its a tough decision on the managers part to take out your number one ace who has gotten you that far...Maybe he was being to friendly to Pedro but, if given other managers the chance at that situation without seeing the outcome ahead of time, would they have taken Pedro out? Im sure there would be some managers that would make the same mistake..Yeah in the end he fucked up, but I am sure thats a damn tough decision to make.....Hey Bobby V might have kept him in, maybe Art Howe too...

maybe so.
but how i understand it, is that grady basically asked pedro if he wanted to stay in. any pitcher is going to say to keep them in, especially in a big game like that. they want to be the hero. there comes a point where you need to realize when enough is enough. and grady didn't figure that out in time.

I know right were ur coming from...I just feel it might be tough to look at ur ace pitcher after he tells you he wants to stay and just take the ball from him..Hey it made my night... :)
Grady Little was a complete idiot. Sox fans saw this ultimate demise coming long before the playoffs. When did he ever take a pitcher out before he was in trouble? In the ALDS against the Athletics, a pitcher would have to give runs up in late innings before he'd be taken out. I remember Burkett, especially, would be out of gas by the 6th- he might walk a guy and give up a hit or two, and his right arm was 6 inches longer than his left. Next inning, he'd be back out there and nobody would be warming in the bullpen.
The fuckup with Pedro was just the last, and most visible, of Grady's fuckups. The fact is, he'd been doing it all season, had lost games from it, and never learned from it.

first time, A-Rod i believe was stealing 3rd and Varitek threw to Mueller... A-Rod was sliding in and Mueller tagged A-Rod's chest before his hand hit the bag, but the ump called him safe. he scored from 3rd shortly after that.
second time, don't remember which Yankee it was... but they went for 3rd, and again Mueller tagged the runner before he hit the base, and again... was called safe. luckily, Timlin got him out at home before he scored.

Ok, are my calculations correct:
If we win every single game, and the Yanks lose all their games, we'd be tied for the division?
9 games left, 5.5 behind.
Win the next two Fenway games - 3.5 behind, with 7 left
Win all 7, and Yanks lose all 7 - 0.0 behind. Tied.
--------------------------------
Of course, the Yankees aren't likely to lose the next 9 games straight.

1. lofton complains and gets all pissy for a ROUTINE play to first base. he knew he was out before he got there, don't give me any other explanation.
2. ok, i will give you that astacio throwing those pitches was stupid and really not necessary... but at least he didn't...
3. GO AFTER SOMEONE'S FUCKING HEAD!!! That is CLASSLESS. If you're going to throw it at someone, don't throw it at their HEAD. Stupid.
And don't give me this bullshit either, because we beat the yankees 11 out of 19 games this season. Clearly, we can see who the better team is when playing each other.

i'm talking about THIS GAME.
That has nothing to do with how you started your post which was whether the BoSox are classy or not. One game doesn't decide anything. So I simply asked a question.
As for today:
However the hell you spell the first baseman's name...
He should not have kept his foot on the base, plain and simple. He's asking for an injury that way. It's more of a danger to him than the baserunner.
Did Lofton overreact? Yes. But he was right in the general sense.
Then the BoSox throw AT him FIRST.
So to you, it's a sign of class to purposely throw behind Lofton where if he moves the wrong way he could possibly get a fastball to his back than throwing up and in?
If they don't thow at Lofton, Halsey doesn't throw that pitch.
Should he have thrown at his head? No...and it's too bad they didn't charge the mound and beat him with baseball bats so he couldn't pitch the rest of the season. :(

When was the last time the Red Sox beat the Yankees in a Season Series?

Don't talk about class. There's a big difference between throwing at someone's back and at their FACE. Roberts, who had nothing to do with the incident in the first place, could have been seriously injured. Torre giving the order to aim for Roberts' head was pretty scumbaggish.

see. that's what pisses me off. even when the red sox win a game, yankees fans still think there team did nothing wrong and that is was a fluke that we won. i say 11 out of 19 is no "fluke". Who said it was a fluke?
The fact is, the Red Sox could have beaten them all 19 games and if the Yankees beat them in the playoffs, those 19 games mean jack shit.
If fans in Boston are partying because they beat the Yanks this season more than they lost to them, then great. Party hard!
I hope to be in Boston in a couple of weeks when they're crying like little bitches into their beers wondering why they can never beat the Yankees when it counts.

"It happened in Cleveland, too. There are 700 players in the league and he's the only that for some reason I get an elbow from every time," Mientkiewicz said. "I mean, I've got nothing personal against Kenny. I just, I don't like to be elbowed. It's not like I'm trying to initiate it."
''I was trying to get out of the way,'' Lofton said. ''I said to him, `Why don't you get out of the way?' ''
The real question is why was Lofton still running towards and through the bag when he was out? Mientkiewicz was stepping off the bag and walking away and Lofton throws his arm out. I just don't get it.
''Tensions run high when we play the Red Sox, but I don't think it affects the way we play,'' said Halsey, who denied throwing at Roberts.
He's denying it? Come on... it was under the guy's CHIN!
Sorry, just venting my anger at some players. :)

Well.. if we keep it up, we might just take that cushy Division title away from you... and you can enjoy the wildcard.;) :lol

Well it certainly helps that you play Tampa and then Baltimore. :p
That would be funny though. My hope for the playoffs is that all our starters can go 8 innings everytime.
And yours should be that when Pedro is pitching, they tie up Francona and pull Pedro out when he's done.
(I was in Boston this weekend and I really thought the fans were going to run down on the field and murder him...it was scary)

keeping pedro in was... ugh... but then today, he let schilling stay in and he got the job done. it's a toss up i guess. i think he feels that they can get themselves out of it. they're starters, their arguably some of the best pitchers in baseball.
but if i was francona, i'd be more cautious with pedro. there's been a couple times now where pedro has stayed in and blown it, or come close.
you're up against minnesota next... that could be rough. for us, we obviously saw that baltimore can gives us a run for our money at the last home series before the yanks... so, who knows. :)

congrats sox fans on the season series...I knew they were gonna take 2 of 3..but in my mind we won the most important game of the series...cause it could have easily been 1.5 games...but we got whooped...and for the comment above...dont the sox lead the majors in hit batters?

3 of the top 4 pitchers in hit batsmen are Red Sox.
Arroyo 18
Wakefield 16
Pedro 15

Im sure plenty, isnt Pedro known for all of this, isnt this his intimidation? arroyo Ill cut him some slack cause he's young and doesnt have the control, but Pedro is known to throw at batters...we should know...
