Wait, it's Kansas City as in Kansas City, Missouri!?

yeah, the stadium rent is much cheaper on the trashy side of Kansas City.... we call it our team, we just keep it in their state.

Kanas City both MO and KS are pretty much the same gigantic city. They are interconnected and unless you were from the area you wouldn't be able to differentiate between the two.

No, St. Louis is furthere east (I believe) It's about 4 or 4 1/2 hours away from KC.

yeah, there's a Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, Missoui. the stadiums for the Royals and Chiefs are on the Missouri side, the nice places to live and shop are on the Kansas side.

I don't think St. Louis shares a border with another state. i'm pretty sure it's bordered on the east by the Mississippi River, otherwise it probably would.

Hey guys, I don't know if it's cool to post this or not, but there's a great Red Sox forum with over 3,000 members that I helped start 4 years ago. It's http://www.talksox.com (http://www.talksox.com/). There are game threads everyday, rumor mills, Celtics/Pats chat, and some seriously smart sports fans over there. If it's not okay to put this link up, let me know and I'll remove it. But I know there's a lot of BoSox fans over here. (Non Red Sox fans also very welcome)

May 28 DH David Ortiz is leading all American League players with 556,567 votes for the All-Star Game and is one of five Sox players currently leading their position in the voting. OF Manny Ramirez, 2B Dustin Pedroia, 1B Kevin Youkilis and C Jason Varitek are all leading the American League in All-Star voting at their respective position, and could represent a Sox-studded lineup during the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.

This is why I hate fan voting. I haven't been paying too much attention this year unfortunately (:o) but I do know that Ortiz shouldn't even sniff a chance at the all star game. It really annoys me when big stars keep getting on, even though they may have terrible starts, or are on the injured list. But, what can you do? :shrug

So leading DH's in HR, RBIs, and runs scored, third among DH's in batting avg. and second among DH's in total hits = not even deserving a sniff of a chance to be in the all star game??? I dont get the reasoning.

wellt o be honest, i didnt look up the other DH's stats...so, if all that is true, yeah he deseves a sniff. But he's still having a shitty season. Apparently the rest of the DH's are too, which gives him a decent shot.

Ok, I didn't realize he has 13 home runs at the moment and I take back my comment. As for my original point about fan voting, he's the leading vote getter in the AL. I guess that's my problem with it. It shows how skewed fan voting is and always has been. Why can't fans just be more objective about voting?

dowling25
06-01-2008, 10:28 PM

Well that is true he is hitting .250 overall. However for about a month or more he has been hitting well over .300

sweet..all that means is you guys have a lot of bandwagoners.

Right now, the Red Sox have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more bandwagon fans than the Yankees could even think of having.

People hate the Yankees, and only started loving the Sox since they won in '04.

Even though I pretty much hate you, etc. etc., I agree with this for the most part. I root for Boston because they have Manny Ramirez. I am a lifelong Manny Ramirez fan, and being from Detroit, that wasn't always easy when Manny played in Cleveland. Trust me. Once Manny is no longer a member of the Sox, I won't root for them anymore. i will be neutral. This is the same reason why I root for the Patriots. Because Tom Brady went to Michigan and I have always liked Brady. Same reason why I will root for the Miami Dolphins this year: Jake Long.

But I agree that Boston, as an entire sports fanbase, has a very large number of "bandwagon" fans. Although, there are a number of Detroit Tigers bandwagon fans that came out of the woodowork in 2006 when they had that improbable World Series run. Suddenly everyone was a huge Tigers fan. Fuck em. I always asked them how many games they attended in 2003 when the Tigers lost 119 games. They ususally shut their mouths after that.

So, assuming he's out for the season, who should the sox trade for, and who should they give up? I need to have a think about it for a bit. I can't really evaluate anyone outside of the red sox this year. :(

scoobycc

I say the Sox bring up Jed Lowrie and Brandon Moss, go with Manny/Moss, Jacoby, and JD in the outfield. That puts Manny and Moss at DH and LF, with Lowrie a versatile infield bat off the bench.

No knee jerk reactions over this. If Ortiz is out for the season, maybe another good bat will need to be looked for. His production will not be easy to replace, however. (Barry Bonds?? Trade for Dunn or Griffey Jr.?)

Coco needs to go anyways, I just see no room for him on the roster in the future.

Should be interesting. The Sox have been EXTREMELY lucky the past few years as far as injuries go. It was bound to happen sometime.

edit: and find some dumpster to stick Lugo in.

I would love to see this...if just out of morbid curiosity. Besides, it won't cost anything but money. No prospects. And please...let him inject himself with something so he is game ready instantly.

And I would love to get a Bonds jersey to keep my Gange jersey company.

That would be the Boston red sox. But since there is no way to measure this, its a pretty pointless argument. However, the sox have so many bandwagon fans...moving from the East Coast to California....its copmletely evident..sox hats to yank hats are like 5:1

True story.

The Sox have recently taken over as the team with the most band wagon fans. I hate to admit it but it's true

The Yankees USED to have the most bandwagoners until a few years ago. And luckily a lot of thugs buy those random colored Yankees hats more than other teams, which is why so many Yankees hats are sold. (I see more camo, etc Yankees hats on thugs than I do other teams)

And for the record I HATE bandwagon fans.

I hate when I bump into a fellow Sox "fan" at work who claims to be a diehard fan (like last year) when I said man Im stoked about Buchholz getting called up, and I get a "What? who's that?"

The Rays are where the bandwagon fans of now are though.

First pitch nails Coco on the thigh. He looks down and then throws the helmet off and charges the mound Shields threw a huge right hook that Coco dodged and Coco then kind of got a little hit on his shoulder/side of face. Then he just got taken down and Gomes and Crawford had about a dozen cheap shots on Coco. It was pretty intense. Definitely will replay that on Sportscenter tonight.

DavefaninNZ

^ I think that was just in regard to the fact that Gomes wasn't even on the field when Crisp charged the mound. Navarro tackled and pinned Crisp, and Gomes came from the dugout to get his shots in. Props to Gomes for protecting his pitcher, but really, Crisp has no way to defend himself, so I can see how it can be perceived as cheap.

Also, what's up with Manny and Youkilis? Had to be separated in the dugout?

That was actually pretty fun watching Coco start that brawl. It was one of the better brawls I've seen, because someone actually got hit. I hate the Sox, but that was pretty cheap of them to try and get those cheap shots in. It still made me chuckle though. Funnier when he called them girls afterwards too.

And as far as the Youk/Manny fight, Manny got tired of tossing David Ortiz's salad and wanted some dick, but Youkilis wasn't sharing, so they got into it.

.........and..........

........Boston still sucks.

My bad, I didn't specify the team too well. I was in a rush to insult Manny and Youkilis (typical, right?)

I was talking about the Rays catcher (Navarro, I think) getting the hits on Coco after he hit the ground. That and Carl Crawford's (might be wrong no him too. I was on the verge of falling asleep when I watched this, but it caught my attention long enough to know it was Sox/Rays) elbow drop.

Edit: Yep, I think it was Jonny Gomes that threw the punches on the ground. I was looking at pix they had on Fox Sports' website.

And he had all but asked for the throw the night before during the post-game interview. He knew it was coming. If they fine and suspend Gomes, they should definately fine and suspend Crisp too.

He'll get the biggest fine/suspension for number 1, starting the fight, and 2, for doing it in an apparent pre-meditated fashion.

Comments after the game are still great though. Fighting like girls, that made me laugh really hard...

For one the Phillies division is terrible so that is probably why nobody cares because it is not a good division. All the teams are terrible so I guess you can be happy with whatever your record is for that division.

I love it when people come in here to bash the sox.

Last night at Busch for the concert I went into the bathroom and a guy had a Yankees cap on and I couldn't help myself. So I just said the Yankees suck go Red Sox.
He responded with "Fuck the Sox."

Don't worry Jolynn, you'll be just as impressed with Ellsbury and Pedrioa. ;) And Manny is available for pinch hitting, so who knows, you might get to see him. :D

Have a great time at the game (but not too much fun, if you take my meaning). :lol

Yeah Ortiz is gone for sure. And Manny would possibly start but more than likely he'll just PH.

And finally winning a series on the road is good to see.

Curt Schilling says he’s out for the season, and his career may be over.

The 41-year-old Boston Red Sox right-hander said Friday on radio station WEEI he will have shoulder surgery next week.

“My season is over and there is a pretty decent chance I have thrown my last pitch forever,” he said.

Oh c'mon, as much of a d-bag as he is, without him, the red sox wouldn't have won in 2004. For that alone, he will always be on my list of favorite sox players.

I don't understand the short term memories of boston fans. Foulke is another one who was practically driven out of town, yet without his epic performance against the yankees in 2004, the sox would not have made their historical comeback. Foulke, Schill and Pedro should be immortalized in Boston for ending the championship drought. Boston fans think they have the right to shit all over them for a couple of ill-advised comments, a lack of performance, or for taking more money from another team. Then the fans have the gall to boast about the championships that "we" won. Give me a break.

Had to repost this in here just to give you all a laugh. :)

I actually think I stunned a few people with my take on the rivalry and luck. I checked into the hospital the other day and they gave me that nightgown and a pair of those totes socks with treads on the bottom. They were wheeling me to the operating room and I made them stop in the hall. I showed them my Yankee charm and told them to take my socks off. Told them there was no way in hell I was going into surgery with red socks on. Seemed like bad luck. I thought the nurses and techs were going to fall over laughing but they did it and went and grabbed me a navy blue pair. All went well so I am crediting the sock change. :lol

He still got a nice contract extension and will still get paid and not even throw one pitch. I love what he did the past few years but this situation still sucks. Especially if he knew about the arm problems when he signed on that line.

Please, $40 mil 4 year deal and 15 wins? Injuries just kept "popping up?" Worse deal ever by far.

If schill signed and he knew he was injured, sure, that's detestable. But its only one year, $8mil (I think) and Im sure the sox got insurance. Really, no skin off their back.

Whereas I remember reading an article about Pavano and it implied that teammates, yankee staffers and front office people questioned his work ethic and drive to get back healthy. For 4 years that went on! 4 years of Pavano would piss me off more than 1 year of schilling.

agreed, 4 years and more money is worse..

however..i made my statement under the assumption pavano didnt know he was hurt when he made his deals. Schilling taking a years pay KNOWING he was hurt is worse than pavano meeting a bunch of bad luck after his deal...imo.

Lot of fun stuff going back to the 1920's. Someday I have to photograph it all and start a site with pictures. May be predominately Yankee stuff but I can imagine even a Sox fan has a tough time hating guys like DiMaggio, Mantle, Gehrig, Maris, Rivera, Berra, Ford, etc, etc.

I think outside of two Ted Williams autographed pictures the only other players not on the Yankees that I have autographs from are Willie Mays, Dom Dimaggio, Tom Seaver, and Mike Flannagan (yes, I know he is a nobody but he was damn cool to a friend of mine and I, took us into the visitors bullpen when he was with Baltimore and signed some stuff for us.)
