:hump Dude that sounds sweet! How the hell do I get that? Is it on my computer or what?

Well yes, the computer is one option. For 70 bucks for the season, you can get MLB.TV from mlb.com and watch all the games on your computer with a high speed internet connection. Or, MLB Extra Innings on Digital Cable or DirectTV for 160 a month, gives you all the games in digital format on your tv..

katie's just upset because I rooted for TWO blue jays while we were at the game yesterday (zaun and hillenbrand) because they're on my fantasy team. were it wakefield pitching (how about that contract extension btw?) I would have been rooting for a no-hitter, as he's on there too, and pitchers get many more points than hitters for solid performance.

and also, you've gotta be kidding me:

I definitely got a little teary-eyed when I first found out, but that didn't last too long -- anyone bashing Theo on their way out of town isn't worth it. and look what getting rid of him did to our offense...how else would billy mueller have been the AL batting champ? or ortiz given a chance (outside of the 1b platooning)?

Sean McDonough does not do the games anymore. He was never employed with NESN as he was only employed with Friday Night Baseball. The Red Sox felt this season it was best to only have one play by play guy and one analyst. It makes sense in a payroll sense.

Francona's weak managing is really showing through again. I'd rather have Mueller in there throwing up in a big situation (top 8) than Vasquez. The failure to bring Youkilis in during this time is pretty glaring.

The game against the Jays the other day, where he replaced his big guns for defense in the 7th and then shot blanks for the remainder was inexcusable.

UJCdream

the way i heard it, Mueller actually said he was cool to play today. but Terry decided to give him one extra day's rest "just to make sure".

it's all well and good to say "it's early"... but when we're in a pennant race come the end of summer, the win or two or three that we gave up "because it's early" are really going to come back and haunt us.

I imagine when you suck that much you do get frustrated, and what easier way for a pitcher to get back at someone than throw at them. Its very convienient after all, we give them a ball, and say throw it. I thing the big problem is that these AL pitchers don't have to bat. Put them in the little white box and see what its like to have a 90mph fastball whiz by your head. I guarantee they'll re-think throwing at someone's head again...

Interesting point.

I primarily watch AL games, and I certainly do see a lot of head-hunting. It'd be interesting to actually see if there was a difference in the amount of pitches thrown at batter's heads between the AL and NL.

I missed all the games this weekend due to a little Vegas excursion, but I guess I didn't miss too much.

it takes two to tango, my friend. it was coming from both sides. this war dates back to the late 90's. i'm not a fan of beanball, but seeing as how TB and the Sox were 1 and 2 respectively for HBP's last year... it's inevitable that this would happen.

not sure about trading away vazquez. he can play any infield position, whereas Youk can only play 3rd (and maybe a little 1st in an emergency)... but i'd definitely love to see Youk back up. it just makes me nervous to get rid of our utility infielder.

rumor mill is saying Youk is being used as trade bait. that they'll bring him back up in a month or so, play him a few games... hook line and sinker. anyone looking for a quality 3B this year?

edit: although thinking about it.. that'd be pretty fucking stupid of them to trade away Youk. i'm not so sure they'll be renewing Mueller this year... hmm...maybe Vazquez DOES get the boot.

Hey, it's a free country and we're all entitled to our opinions, and I never thought that someone's opinion could be wrong, but...well...you're just wrong. ;)

Hey, I love the Pats just as much as the next NEer, but baseball's my passion and it seems more like a pasttime than football. Besides, where are you going to get a rivalry like the Sox and Yankees? There isn't even a matchup that compares with that.

I mean, don't get me wrong, baseball is cool as hell and fun to go to a game...and agreed, yanks/sox rivalry is so great...but I eat, sleep, live, breathe, think football. I have been counting down the days to the draft. Super Bowl Sunday is the best and worst day of the year...its the best game ever and yet the end of football for like seven months. I was brought up on football...I definitely go against the norm of MA-ers saying that I'd rather see the Pats win the Super Bowl than see the Sox win the WS. I know that's blasphemy, but that's just my opinion/the kind of sports person I am.

But I love how all the yankees fans here are running their mouths about how the Sox winning the WS last year is in the past and it won't matter, and yet they don't shut up about the 26 titles. Pick a side of the argument, guys, and stick to it. If you apply it to the Sox, apply it to your choking a-hole yanks players. And A Rod will always get it from Jeter in the dugout. He just comes after him now.

Agreed.

Yankees fans have it so easy. They don't understand the plight of the Red Sox fan. So when we finally win and bring it up occasionally, they get all pissy and rant and rave about all this other shit the Yankees have done. They don't seem to understand the fact that we've been in their position for a very long time. I'm 21 and every single year I've been alive has been nothing but agonizing torture - similar to what they're currently going through.

Another thing that gets to me about some "Yankees fans" is that I work with a ton of them. So they'll come in my office and try to bust my balls about the latest Yanks win or Sox loss, but they don't really know shit about the team, or baseball in general. I can walk up to almost any person on the street in San Diego who's wearing a Sox cap and actually talk to them about the Sox and baseball, in general whereas most people wearing a Yankees cap wouldn't know a damn thing about the Yanks. It's pathetic when people wear your team's logos because it's "in style" vice actually liking the sport.

Currently going through, we currently have the same record as we did last year at this time. I dont think 86 years of toture equate to this seasons current record of the yankees. I love how you guys just generalize Yankee fans, that they are "know it alls, that know nothing". It's funny but I know a lot of people that don't like either team, and they despise the yanks, but they are telling me Boston fans are getting just as bad. If you think the record we currently have is as much torture as sox fans went through for all those years then I dont know if you know too much about baseball either. Hate to break it to you but you guys have a lot of "Those" Fans now as well, millions of people walk around nyc with sox hats that no nothing about Red Sox history, or baseball. You guys are slowly becoming hated by other fans as well now. This is not directed at you, trust me. But you guys do have a lot of bandwagon fans that wear that Boston Cap because it is the cool thing to do, just like you said above.

I agree with both. I think both hats are worn by people who don't know anything about the team. More so by Yankee fans, but there are also others. Nothing drives me crazy then those pink "B" hats. I will only wear the blue and red hat that the players wear.

You're not telling me something I didn't already know; however, it is a fact that the NY Yankees are the worlds top selling franchise period. Boston doesn't even make the list. But I would be remiss if I didn't say that people do the same thing for Sox gear. It happens with every sports team, but I'm noticed that it occurrs in especially high frequency with people who wear NY Yankees gear. Coincidence? Perhaps. I'm going to say probably not. The fact is that so many people wear Yanks gear who simply don't know anything about the team except Jeter and A-Rod, which isn't necessarily a horrible thing, just another reason for me to complain about the Yanks ;)

People in general are growing tired of Boston. I'll agree with you on that. I have to say that I don't blame them. If the San Diego Padres won the WS the same year the Chargers had won the third SB in four years, I might be sick of hearing about SD.

Oh and Paula, how are those Braves lookin this year? :lol

Of course it's more so by Yankee fans. LOL. I will be completely honest, I consider myself a knowledgeable Yankee fan, I have season tickets for 7 years, I am 25 years old. Been going to Yankee stadium since the day I was born. I will openly admit, there ARE A LOT of "YANKEE FANS" that really do no nothing about baseball. I was at the game this past sunday and I was listening to a few "fans" talk about the team, and who they thought was good and bad on the team, let me tell you, it was scary as hell to listen to them talk, because they really had no clue what they were talking about. You know comments like "You have to give Giambi a chance, but Mariano has got to go!" Well when I hear I comment like that, I have to think this guy has got to be kidding me. Give Giambi a chance, and not MO? Lets see, real yankee who has proved himself, or Free agent money yankee who has yet to do anything but be involved in the Balco scandal. I agree that there are a lot of Fake fans that wear the cap proud and act like they know it all, and they know nothing. But please not for one second should anybody think it is only Yankee fans, because now, since the success of the sox last year. Tons of bandwagon fans wearing the hats, the shirts, the Johnny Damon is my homeboy shirts, talking like they have suffered for years, and talk out of their ass. I can admit the yanks fanbase is very polluted, but you guys are slowly becoming infected as well. It is what happend when you win.

anytime a yankees fan gives you shit about anything mention two things:
they almost got swept by the ORIOLES IN NEW YORK
and
THEY WERE UP 3-0 AGAINST THE RED SOX AND BLEW IT.

Dude that's awesome! Playing sports in the elements always makes for more interesting games, no matter what sport! It forces the players to really give it all they've got on those super-hot and humid days or those exceptionally cold nights.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Twins react to the open air up there.

The Domefield advantage is real. Visiting teams have a such a problem with fly balls in the roof, and the noise was unnerving to away teams, especially during both 87 & 91 World Series...

Doesn't matter, I know the fans would rather freeze their asses off and roast than be stuck in the frigging dome with outfield fences made from hefty bags.

you do know the difference between a yankees fan that is from cali and a red sox fan from cali, though, right? A yankees fan in cali is a bandwagon fan. someone who chooses to like a team because they think they are going to win, not because there is actually any basis for fanage. a red sox fan from cali is just someone who must like inflicting pain upon themselves. if you live in cali and youre a sox fan its not because you think they are going to win, its probably because you just either hate the yanks or love the under dog.

im not trying to be an ass, but every single yankees fan that i have tried to talk baseball with has done the same thing: told me to enjoy the WS win because it will never happen ever again, and that they are behind the yankees by 20 WS titles. I think the sooner yankees fans reallize that boston fans dont give a shit if the sox win another series the better. I saw it in my lifetime. They could come in last place every year for the rest of my life and I would NOT care. when I am watching the ALCS/WS games with my children, and a team is up 3-0, and the commentators mention the 2004 ALCS and how the sox came back to beat the yanks from that standing, i can say i saw it. that is all that matters to me. I can tell them the exact place and pepole I was with when the sox won the ALCS and the Series that year.

like i said before, baseball season is just filler between football seasons. let's give the sox some credit. us sox fans deserve to be on a freaking high horse: our team didnt blow it FOR ONCE when it actually counted.

Vladislav Tretiak, the best goalie to ever play hockey, said it best when he described standing on the ice and watching the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team celebrate their victory over the USSR. He said that he was in awe of the emotion, the USSR had become so used to winning that it no longer made them happy. Winning was expected. While they watched a group of underdog college students pour forth exuberance and elation, he felt empty, and the 4 gold medals won in 64, 68, 72, 76 would never equal the 1 won by his opponents in 80. When asked if he believed in miracles, he said, "Yes. I believe in miracles, for I witnessed one that evening."

I think this has enough parallels to the situation you describe.

NICE! So does that mean Steinbrenner = Stalin?

I agree with you.

There are obviously wicked awesome Yanks fans out there who are objective (or at least, as objective as a Yanks fan can be ;)) like Brydro and some of the other Ants on this board; however, I, too, have met several Yanks fans, particularly at bars no less, who just talk out of their ass. They're the stereotypical shit-talking assholes - but I don't think it's specific to either NY or Boston. It's just apparant to us because we're rivals.

I never knew that the Raiders and the Chargers were rivals until I came to live in San Diego and never noticed any bickering from a fan of either team (except that one time the Pats beat those stupid Raiders in the last game in Foxboro Stadium - that was sweeeeet!). Anyways, we're going to notice NY fans being dicks because they're going to realize we're Sox fans and that's how it is. If we were Twins fans, I bet we'd get treated a whole lot differently by the NY fans.

On a sidenote, what the fuck happened to Foulke? I'm definitely noticing a trend here, guys.

No, McNabb is NOT the best QB in the NFL, so shut up. and P.S. of course you wouldnt know Oakland/Chargers rivalry, cuz no one outside of CA gives two craps about those teams. Im sure that rivalry is based purely on the fact that Oakland is jealous of the fact that no other team in the NFL has more ghetto-assed fans as they do. Seriously, who wears Darth Vader shit to games? oh yeah, Oakland fans.

And dont worry about Foulke, hes getting the jitters out. He did okay closing the first game of the 2 game series in Baltimore. I think its just tough coming back after having been the closer that no one would have thought would "win" the world series for the sox. He'll be okay.

so youre saying the Yankees = Communist USSR and every great empire will eventually fall and become nothing but an organization frantically trying to feed all its members?

NICE! So does that mean Steinbrenner = Stalin?

seriously, just kidding. Cool parallel. Didn't know that story. And crap, what happened in October was a miracle. I love sox/yankees rivalry, I just wish that everyone would realize that baseball is a wussy sport and football is the TRUE american pasttime.

:D (dunno about people realizing that, though...)

I believe NY has been referred to as the evil empire before, so I won't get into that. But yes, I think the two situations are the same, with different characters.

I love both Football and Baseball. Both are great. Football is legal war. It's pure conflict, agression, and physical exertion. It requires strategy, for certain. However, baseball is pure sport. No clock. The defense puts the ball into play. It's individual yet team and 50% situation and 50% execution. As long as you have a man at the plate, it's never over. Both have their places, but baseball is still superior. Slightly.

Well, I'm actually from Rhode Island Katie (DMBGodagirl41); but, through a cruel twist of fate, I ended up in San Diego ;)

But Katie (redsoxiluv), that statistic is total bullshit because I always wear my Sox hat and I haven't been laid in like three months! :lorraine I guess I just need to move back to the good ol North East. These Cali chicks are such bitches (not all of them, so all you Cali chicks don't get all pissed). Plus, they hate Marines out here, so I have a few strikes goin against me. Now I'm getting homesick.

Kind of off subject, but I haven't seen a chick wear a freakin Sox hat in CA since the GGP show! Man, I will never forget her...Red hoodie, BoSox cap, long brown hair, plus a DMB fan - I was paying more attention to her than Santana for Christ's sake! God I miss home!

I swear, when Santana was soloing during Watchtower, I would jump and go crazy and scream and yell...and then I'd see her and stop moving and just stare. She's like that chick Dave talks about in Little Thing, except I never even asked her where anything was. I was too nervous to even say anything. Hmmm...that's pretty mature.

I'm telling you ladies, if you want to noticed, wear a Sox cap, jersey, whatever. Yeah, I probably won't have to balls to go up and say anything to you, but you I'll definitely be paying attention to you. Well, I might say something, but probably not. Well, you never know. If I've had a few Sammy A's to drink, I definitely would. Sober - no way.

Speaking of cool Katies, I knew this one Katie in High School. She was sooo awesome (i.e.: she loved the Sox, DMB and alcohol). So, I'm inherently biased towards thinking all Katies are cool, but so far, they definitely are. Keep up the good work ;)

Well it might have to do with the fact that you live in Maryland, Katie (dmbgodagirl41)! Like I said, I wear my Sox gear everywhere and I haven't been laid in 3 months! And, hey, I'm not a bad looking guy (what? I'm a freakin 9.6 on Hotornot! :lol). So, here's how we solve this problem: you get your ass on a plane, fly over here and I'll marry you. Deal? So far I'm 0-1 with Katies. I already asked Katie (redsoxiluv) to marry me a few months back. Apparently, there's a waiting list :rolleyes

:thumbsup it's been scientifically proven that a sox cap increases a guy's attractiveness by at least 33%

or something like that.

the scale is: sox hat equals +2 points to a girl's total hotness level. a yankees hat is -1. as for cubs, I dunno. I was at wrigley tonight, and the lack of attractive girls was extremely alarming.

as for guys, I dunno how the scale goes, what the hotness level between sox and cubs hats is. I was rocking my brand new cubs hat tonight, and got less attn. than I might've in the sox hat....

...although the best part was when some cubs fan yelled to us: hey sox fans! (my dad and I in our sox jacket and hoodie respectively) tell these cards fans over here how much st. louis sucks! my dad booed the offending cardinals fans accordingly, and I yelled "hey, 0-39" and "what's that about a broom?".

I found it extremely amusing that, even though the cubs are even more cursed than we are, we can all unite in our disdain for cards fans

ok a few thoughts...

any bimer would OWN a NINETY ONE subaru, end of story.
it's possible to drink a full glass of ANYTHING in 1.13 seconds? please, let's be realistic!
aside from that, you're a pretty hot guy! and I'm straight! truthfully, I thought you kinda looked like ME...katie, any validity to that?

I just saw a Johnny damon puma commercial watching conan, maybe the ladies like it but it sure as hell does nothing for me.

and
My 01 X-terra sure as hell wont smoke anyone, but i do love it

Hey, X-terras as sweet dude. Just throw a Red Sox license plate cover on there and it's golden! If don't have have one, you can always jack it from Katie's car :lol

And Katie, I'm waiting for Katie's response. See, I proposed to you and you shot me down Blackhawk Down style. So you have to wait and see what Katie wants to do. If she wants to marry me, too, then there's only one fair way to handle this - KY Jelly fight to the death.

By the way, I've given up on identifying which Katie I'm talking to.

Dude, I'm the car bomb man! Ok, 1.13 seconds is a little off, but I'll slam them quicker than you guys! I promise! ;) I love these competitions because no matter what, everyone gets cocked and has a great time, which is a good thing :)

Well Hench, I guess we're just two sexified bitches then huh! :lol

Eh, well you should. We did put you smack dab in the middle of it :lol

So the Decemberists are a band? I've never heard of them, but I'll be sure to check them out. What kind of music are they?

So what the hell are you doing in Chicago? I'd love to catch a game at Wrigley Field! That would be pretty sweet man. Anyways, I'm dead tired and I have stupid class tomorrw. Plus, I have to rest up for another potentially devastating loss tomorrow. I guess I have to get that thick skin back, again.

So there!

You'll be pleased to know I happen to down car bombs in 1.13 seconds flat, which stands to be one of the most impressive records ever! Needless to say, that's almost 9x better than Hench ;)

And yes ladies, I do sing and play the guitar. It's not for show. And I do play every DMB song on the guitar. Damn, now I wanna marry me! :lol

Hottie. Let me bear your children. I swear I'll put out all the time.

Bone bruise on the same ankle he had surgery on. He is expected to miss at least 2 weeks. Good luck with pitching for awhile.

My guess, Lenny Dinardo who has started for Pawtucket this year and pitched pretty well so far will move from the long relief role into the starting role as they wait for Wade Miller to finish rehab which I believe he is pitching for Pawtucket today.

Honestly, they signed Rentaria for way too long... Baby Ramirez will be ready very, very soon, and we don't need two SS's...

Not a bad name.

There are no pitchers that are out there to get, they are all getting signed. Sabathia is signing a deal today. I rather them keep their pitching prospects and suck for this year then trade them for a crappy pitcher this year.

Im sick of schilling, Id guess hes part of the reason we didnt resign pedro, since hes friends with francona. Hes out spoken and I am sick of it really, I would much rather have pedro and lowe right now then schilling and wells

Whoa there cowboy. Sick of Schilling? How can you say that? I know, he's extremely new to the team, but look at what that man has led the Sox to accomplish. I know people that thank god every night they pray because Schilling is with the Red Sox. He's certainly not a showboat, that's for sure, and he appears to be a really nice guy with no ego - a man I'd prefer to have on my team any day over that ass clown Randy Johnson. That man could only play for the Yankees. He has such a huge freakin ego that he couldn't possibly play for any small ball club, or even one that would actually pay his a reasonable sallary (what he's receiving now is quite substantial).

Lowe I can understand. I remember Derek Lowe from a long time ago. He's someone I'll always remember as a true Sox team member, like Bryan Daughbach or Trot Nixon. Those guys are Boston classics. Did you know they had a Bryan Daughbach fan club?! I actually had a friend in it - I never understood that...anyways...

But Pedro - man, that guy is riddled with ambiguity. I've always respected Pedro and cheered him on, but something always struck me as wierd when I saw or heard him. "I just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy." Dude, who the fuck says that? Trying to explain that one to the Yankee fans I work with was very difficult, to say the least. I was very :shrug when Pedro left. I was more upset when we traded Noma for a bunch of people I hadn't really heard too much about, only to trade most of the away again! Was it worth it, definitely, but Noma was a club player, IMHO. Classic Boston Red Sox written all over that guy.

Now Wells, I can really understand. Alright, cool. One year deal. Fine. But the guy's what - 42, 41? He's old. And overweight. I saw him pitch for the Padres last year (who I'm actually growing to enjoy) and wasn't particularly pleased with some of his outings. I wasn't sitting there in PetCo Park saying, "Boy, we really need to lose Lowe and get Wells." But now we're stuck with him and if he can get his fat ass off the DL and keep performing at his level, I'll tip my hat to him. He is definitely way past his hayday.

Now what I'm most upset about is why the hell we didn't keep Dave Roberts. What the hell were we thinking?!

I don't even know what prospect pitchers are out there who are up for trade. What we really need to do is improve our scouting and farm team system. Pawtucket is a consistantly pretty good farm team, comparitively speaking; however, it doesn't seem like we're calling up many good player from there lately. Yeah, we had Dinardo the other day. But before that? It's been a few years, hasn't it?

Cool, you can marry me, but we're gonna have a prenup. If you don't put out big time for the first 5 years of our marriage, you have to buy me season tickets to the Sox that year and pay for a whole Gorge trip, too ;)

OK, fine. I stretched the truth a bit about the 1.13 seconds. Right now I'm probably at a little over 2 seconds, but I'm working on it! :lol
