At the Columbus and Pitt shows I noticed that band had new/different main speaker stacks compared to previous tours...did anyone else notice this?

As a result the sound in the pavillion has been A LOT louder in the back area of the pavillion (where my seats were)

:thumbsup to the band for this.

Thats good to hear (no pun intended). I'm a little curious as to how the lighting is this tour...I haven't heard anything about it. Is it the same as last year?

you should check the official website under equipment. someone was saying they saw a bunch of changes, but i, not being techinically inclined, have no clue... lol

Heck...lol...I don't know any technical stuff either. I just wanna know if they look anydifferent or if there are any noticable changes from last year. I really liked the D&F setup. That would be cool if the band did something with that...

You are correct, The band invested in new Meyer line array drivers. Very expensive speakers, even for their "cheap" stuff. For an audiophile like myself, I cannot wait to hear the difference. They've used Meyer loud speakers in the past, but apparently these are a better model.

Yeah the sound is much much better...I first noticed these type of stacks at a Tim McGraw show last year and was like 'damn DMB should upgrade to these speakers...' The sound really travels well and there is a solid clear mix. You can tell in the AUD pulls that the speakers are a lot better to record from. I don't think DM&F had this speaker set up.

I remember being in the last few rows at Hartford last year and barely hearing them, but I was in the last few rows in Pitt and my ears were ringing afterwards (which is a good thing).

btw, very impressed with Pitt's sound in the lawn...they doubled up on lawn speakers compared to most other lawn's I've seen. Good job to the crew there!

as an aspiring lighting tech...i can also say i can not wait to see the new setup in person. from the pics i have seen it is much different than last year. the rig itself is no longer what i liked to think of as an orb. last year they had the five curving main struts going up and then a canopy of lights. this year everything looks much more angular. one thing i think i noticed in the pics is that there are a lot more lights from the company High End Systems. These are the ones that have the full range of motion and dialation. So those should def. add to the experience. It doesnt look like the D+F setup either. It all looks pretty new and different. Can't wait to see it in person!

about the lighting...i looked at the road page and it is a much improved setup over last year. they have added about 20 of those High End System lights I mentioned above. They also added on a number of color scrollers. These are what are used in theaters for colored lighting...they do not rotate at all but will fill up the space with colored light which should be a nice effect. What also caught my eye was that they added about 60 of those stationary bright lights. They list 240 or something like that. i would figure they have them set up throughout the rig and with different color strips. Overall this sounds like a very impressive rig.

about the lighting...i was at starlake this weekend, and it looked to me like they had a lot more lights. the lighting was esp. impressive on warehouse and two step, and i think it was joy ride (could have been crazy-easy). it's hard to really put into words what was different about it, but it was done really well.

Well...this isn't exactly correct. The new system is a line array by JBL, not Meyer, although both of their line array systems kick ass. We posted a description of the changes on the road web page: DMB On the Road (http://www.davematthewsband.com/road/frames.html)

I'm surprised it took so long for people to notice...lol!

Oh and something else...to clear up confusion, it is a different sound system, but the same sound company and crew that they have had for a while...just FYI
