View Full Version : Notice: Two Week Rule (All should read)
ISOing shows before 2 weeks is frowned upon and disrespectful to the tapers as they have lives as well and things to do that are possibly more important than converting a show ASAP
Also, even if the show is out, give it a little time to spread before requesting a b&p. They will come, please have some patience.
Thanks.

Isn't this some pretty common sense? That's like asking for the DVD of a movie that came out 2 weeks ago. Thanks for trying to help out the newcomers though.

You would think that it is common sense, but it seems like almost every day there is a post about wanting a show that was just like two or three nights ago.

You can get that though. Spider-man is already circulating on VCD but not in relation to this site. I have my other sources and am downloading it as we speak. :p

Of spider man, and any other movie that is in the theaters, well.............suck. With patience comes quality. If you think your getting anything close to DVD (or even EP VHS), I got news for you. If you want to enjoy your VCD's, follow these instructions.
1st) convince yourself that the quality is going to be shit, jut totall crap.
2nd) Smoke about 2-3 bongs (using high quality weed) or 3-4 with a friend (increase according to crowd)
3rd) Have a shot to chase your last bong hit.
4th) Repeat steps 2&3 when you realize how right you were in step 1:-)

I don't understand why searching for a show the day after you were in attendance is frowned upon. The tapers, if they get irritated, should chill out. Most, due a great job and DMB fans are eager. I have been a member of antsmarching.org now for a few months and I wasn't aware of the 2 week grace period before we can ask anybody if they have the show. Sometimes, people on this web-site act a little too high and mighty. YOU as in everybody, don't have to be so rude. I have received some mean replys to some of my posts. I don't get...

basically it is frowned upon because
a) let's face it taper's have lives
b) why the heck do you want to post an ISO: when you know you are not going to get that day/week.
c) why do you need a show the day after would it matter if you got in a couple more days? now i do realize there is a difference when some of the tapers do release there shows the day after and that is cool but not all tapers have the same amount of free time to do this. for some it can take a month(s)/day(s) and for that reason we do a rule like the 2 week rule. I see no problem with what Mike(momo) said.
hopefully my rambling made sense as well

Actually some VCDs come out before the movie does. However they are horrible in quality, sometimes watchable, other times worth the 5-8 bucks.

More commonly now, Studio DVD's get stolen and ripped. Like with Van Wilder and LOTR (Fellowship)

Yes but you don't always know if that one is a good quality rip or not. I've seen a LOTR version that was crap when the movie first came out.

Jeez, you know if we could just spread mp3 shows they would get out in like half a week instead of two. You SHN snobs are ruining the turnaround time for all of us.

SHN's take no long to make than MP3's. What takes time is chopping up the single audio file into seperate song files.

I thought my sarcasm was inherent:)
BTW...truth be known mp3s take longer because of the compression algorithm. Lastly the tracking of a show is less time consuming than converting the DAT (unless your recording to a laptop)as far as getting shows seeded.

This really isnt any of my business, since I dont trade or borrow myself. I think its a little extreme to say it is disrepectful. Disrespectful would be like making fun of your mom. Also its only a message board no one is holding a gun to anybodys head. If you dont like the post then ignore it or tell them to pack sand. I think youre too sensitive when you take offense to someone wanting a stinking show the day after. If they show up at your daystep wanting you to burn them one then thats a different game.

I agree that I wouldn't necessarily consider it disrespectful, but that's just a game of semantics. I think we should all just wait until it's posted before the whole game starts. Whether it's one day, one week, TWO weeks, or a month. We all owe a lot of debt and gratitude for the people who spend their hard earned money to travel all around the country (like many of them do) to tape shows for us! Rude, on the other hand would be e-mailing or nagging them on when they plan to upload the show! Now that is intolerable. Anyway, thanks again to all the tapers out there. Your work is NOT in vain despite the complaining that goes on about the shows!
David Carlston

While you can argue on whether or not its disrespectful, its plainly impatient and borderline greedy to be asking for a show 24 hours after its over. Unfortunatly the people on this board are now too spoiled over by the tapers to ever seriously consider the 2 week rule again. I think some tapers get a kick out of seeing how fast a turn around they can get, honestly, cause there are times when we wait just a day for those tapes. My personal opinion though is that tapers should take all their recordings and hold back for a month before releasing them. it'll at least breed a little more respect and less impatient whining and bitching.

David, I encourage you to make up your mind. You were looking for the 03/19-03/22 shows only yesterday. And very rude to easdmb when he pointed this out to you.

Sorry for any confusion as I am not fully up to speed on terminology but I thought an MD5 had to do with the recording. Can you please clarify? Thanks! I don't want to be an ass!

MD5s are about 8k worth of text file that verifies the fidelity of the fileset youre downloading. its to make sure youve got the same files as everyone else. and if you want me to argue semantics i could say that because text files and info files are posted all the time on DMBc, ISOing an MD5 set for a few shows shouldnt be considered posting in the wrong forum.
and easdmb seems to be a total dipshit anyway, so people who think i was ISOing the actual shows can go on under the impression im a hypocrit without me caring.

David,
Thank you for your kind words. So what you're saying is that you were just seeking the MD5's for no apparent reason? What would be the purpose of having them if you have not already downloaded the show? And that was a nice excuse, claiming because they are technically only text files that it didn't matter where you posted. They relate to a show download, post them in the appropriate forum.
I think the real problem here is that after some hard thought you deduced what an ass you are, and didn't like being criticized for the same thing you criticized someone else for.
Regardless, insult as you wish, I won't take offense to your comments, considering it is coming from a negative fuck like yourself who seems to have a perpetual stick up his ass.
Have a great day!

My point was that you were looking for MD5's from shows that were less than a week old. Wouldn’t it hold true that one shouldn’t be asking for them for two weeks too if they are the text related to files that are to be downloaded? I am assuming that the files that you were downloading were those shows.
Anyway, since most people in this forum are very opinionated, I would like to state mine. I think that waiting for two weeks before asking for a copy of a show would be an exercise of futility. Furthermore, I believe a taper holding them for a month is even more of a laugh.
I’ve read on these boards that people are putting too much pressure on the tapers to get shows out. I think that is bunch of bull. I understand that common courtesy says “give the tapers time,” but I highly doubt that the tapers read all of the posts and think to themselves that they must hurry up to satisfy a bunch of strangers. The people looking for the shows are probably really excited to hear a show that: 1) they were just at, 2) a show that everyone on these boards keeps talking about or 3) a show that they were unable to get tix to or unable to attend and want to see what they missed. Asking people not to ask for those shows would be asking them not to speak what is on their mind. Also, I think that it must be pretty exciting for a taper to have a quick turnaround time and share their work.
Furthermore, name-calling isn't nice. I’ve seen you post all over these boards and a majority of the time you are ripping on someone. For a person who likes to tool on everyone, I find it rather amusing that the one time someone points something out to you that you did, they are a dipshit. Your lack of couth on the way you handle yourself on these boards absolutely amazes me. I originally started coming to this website because I was a fan of the music, now I have to come to this website and I all I notice is that people like to make fun of each other.
And having already seen your typical reply of “make me cry” or “see what I care” just goes to further point out your ignorance not only as a person but as an effective communicator. So no matter what you reply to this post, I don’t care.

text files are released before the shows are, firstly. secondly, the shows in question were circulating on newsgroups, servers, and otherwise. I asked for the MD5s of the shows that are already circulating. so you two windbags can go about your business thinking youve got an upper on whatever argument youre holding, since I care way less than you do.
I honestly think we get a dumber fanbase every year.

I certainly don't think it has anything with the fanbase being dumber every year, as you put it.
I think it has everything to do with the fact that your argument holds absolutely no water. What you've basically said here is "Because I'm doing it, it's ok, but when someone else slips up, I'll be sure to let them know".
Also, it's not that you care less than we do, for if you did not care, you wouldn't be posting replies to our "dumb" comments. I really just think you have a problem admitting when you're WRONG!
Also David, there are people out there to help people like yourself. Maybe you were locked in a closet for your first 5 years of life, or someone touched you in a naughty place, who knows, but if you do seek out these people, and they can not help you, let me know. I will personally come to your home and provide you with the shotgun to end your miserable existence.
EDIT: I also think it's quite funny that you commented on how the fanbase get dumber every year. The reason this is so amusing to me as that as I have been browsing many of the threads, it appears that you have a serious spelling problem. This further reinforces the fact that I know I am bickering with an uneducated person, who couldn't win a debate with a monkey and a retard, and that your comments certainly do not have an adverse affect on my being.

youre trying awfuly hard, arent you? especialy when attempting to understand something as simple as MD5s arent the recording itself. in fact, they were posted elsewhere after i asked, and emailed to me, by people that are advoctaing two weeks just as much. So guess what? youre wrong. accept it, move on with your life, and try your petty insults elsewhere.

Listen guy, I don't need to win, I don't need to have the last word as you put it. This is not a competition for me. I'm not here to argue with anyone and I feel that this whole thread has evolved into something different from what its original intent was. I just think you've completely missed the point. It seems it was more a blow to your ego to concede to the point we were trying to make, rather, you chose to throw up your defenses, hence all the hostility and "petty insults". This could have ended a long time ago.
I agree with you on one point, I am no one here. I am just a guy in it for the music, but when I see someone who like to ruin things for others, I will take every opportunity to point out when that person is being an asshole and a hypocrite.
As I said before this was never meant to be a personal attack, it was meant to prove a point, you made it personal my friend, because you are so damn defensive. Lighten up already.
