What book is it?

It's called The Bedford Boys. It's pretty good so far, I'm only a couple chapters in. It's about Bedford, VA. They lost the most guys on D-Day (it's where the national D-Day memorial is). So it talks about they guys, and how it affected the town and all. I just got done with Cash by Johnny Cash, now that was an awesome book!

Maybe it is now. But the first season they kind of attempted to make it look real, only it didn't work. Now I think they're at least obviously making it a joke. (I've seen commercials for this season)

Mex, what kind of music you looking for?

If you like laid back, guitar, check out Jack Johnson. Namely the songs Inaudible Melodies, Fortunate Fool, Cookie Jar, Taylor, etc. Ben Harper is another good mother f-er.

Rap/Hip-Hop: I'm always a fan of Tupac, but Jurassic 5 (J5) kicks some ass. Check out Quality Control and Concrete Playground (if that's not it, it may be Concrete Streets). The Roots are good too. Eminem is unbelievable also.

Elton John is one of my favorites. Tiny Dancer is one of the best songs ever written, IMO. Check out Written In The Stars, Your Song, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, etc.

Phil Collins is the man as well.

Matchbox 20 is good (3 AM, Real World, Mad Season), Aerosmith (everything, especially their Dream On cover). Led Zeppelin (not a big fan, but I do like Fool In The Rain).

Tell me what kinda stuff you're looking for, and I can recommend something. I love music.

I'm gonna be in Skaneateles next summer for a wedding, I don't know how far that is from y'all. It's outside of Syracuse.

If you're lucky, the wedding will be around the time of summer when DMB comes to SPAC! It's always July or August so keep your fingers crosses, maybe it'll be within a week or so.. then you could come here for a show - OR 2!!

Good Morning...did everyone have a nice weekend? I know it's Tuesday, but I was off yesterday...

Sigh, my weekend was the worst. The whole weekend I had the house and my dad's car to myself...at 9am on Saturday I got into a fucking car accident and mangled my dad's car pretty good. So that ruined my whole weekend and I spent the next two days pacing and chain smoking waiting for him to get home and yell at me...t'was not fun. Today I'm feeling much better though..whew!

Yeah, it was totally my fault. Not really because it was raining and I slipped on the streetcar tracks into the car in front of me..but I mean, I probably was not paying attention and following too close and all that, but shhh....

I thought my dad would kill me...he kind of had a delayed reaction or something. Like he was all calm and whatever and we sat down and talked about it and then the next day out of no where he just went off on me, lol. Glad that part of it's over.

umm, no.Damn my co-worker Tim for lying to me! :violent :twak We were doing our radio show last week, and we played that song during a music break, and said it was Aerosmith. He comes over from his office and says that it's not an Aerosmith song, it's Zeppelin, and the one that sounds like Aerosmith was redone later on. I wasn't sure, but I figured it was more from his era so he would know.

EDIT: I just emailed him a moment ago after you guys called me out, and here was his response:

"The funny thing is that it is still 50/50 on who really sang the original version of the song. If you look at the original writing credits for the song from aerosmith's album, it says that steven tyler wrote it. But 99% of the people that hear the song say that it is not tyler singing it and it sounds like Zepplin singing the song. Even though tyler was and is the only lead singer of the group.

This will always be a mystery to all out there who listen to the song, and most chalk it up to maybe it was recorded before the band formed and was recorded by another singer in the studio. But since aerosmith had the rights, they just kept it and put it on their record. In their original debut of the song on the the album titled "aerosmith" in June of 1973, the song clearly doesn't sound like tyler is singing it. Newer albums have been changed and it sounds like the current Tyler voice that we all have grown to enjoy.

i have read the many articles online about it, and nowhere does it say that it is a fact that zepplin sang the original release, but nowhere does it dispute it saying that they weren't. All of it is heresay.

Another unsolved mystery by Tim.

Tim"

In conclusion.....

Acually, there is a mystery and an argument. I just started researching it, and yes, there are many many people that believe that it is not Tyler singing in the original version until the very end of the song. Later on, I believe in 1976, Aerosmith re-released the song, and it's definitely Tyler singing...this is the version that is commonly heard, but is not the original. It is often believed that Tyler and the band did perform on the original recording, but Tyler was not the one singing on the original recording (until the very end of the song).

twosteppinpun
08-03-2004, 02:35 PM
I still think it's crap, I've seen Aerosmith live twice, when they play dream on, it's tyler the whole time, and it sounds exactly like the record. The beginning is just not the "typical" Tyler screaming. Another example is "Patience" by GNR, that doesn't sound like Axl at all, but it is.
This is the first I've ever heard of this whole argument, and I just don't buy it.

Aerosmith's self titled debut was recorded in 1972 at Boston's Intermedia Sound Studios. It took only two weeks to record and was released by Columbia Records for, in the band's own words "the young, the young in the head, and anybody who can still make it raw". As you look back now, it's clear that this album provided a solid blueprint for what was to become Hard Rock and Heavy Metal in the 70's and 80's. It was electrified blues, blasted through the amps of five young, savage and hungry guys. It remains a testimony to the hot, rabid energy that personified Aerosmith in 1973.
"We weren’t too ambitious when we started out. We just wanted to be the biggest thing that ever walked the planet, the greatest rock band that ever was. We just wanted everything. We just wanted it all." - Steven Tyler.
Coincidentally, Aerosmith's first album was released the same day as another debut by a young musician from New Jersey named Bruce Springsteen. Though not a huge seller at first, Aerosmith did receive a warm critical response and gave Aerosmith their introduction to the American charts with the classic single "Dream On".The lyrics are thick with sexual innuendo while the melodies just plain hook like mad. The innuendoes were of the brand that they used to make in the original blues of the 50’s - when your parents thought that the band were actually singing about "driving".
Then, as now, the power of Tyler's lyrics comes from a humorous and cleverly crafted word play. The album spawned several classics: "Movin' Out", "Mama Kin", "Somebody", and "One Way Street" - which document Aerosmith experimenting with the art of songwriting and finding their own niche. Aerosmith is one of the strongest releases of the decade, and despite the raw production, or perhaps in part because of it, the record today stands up to anything they, or any other band has recorded.

Aerosmith - Aerosmith 1972
Make It
Somebody
Dream On
One Way Street
Mama Kin
Write Me
Movin' Out
Walkin' The Dog
That's from the official Aerosmith website - if it helps at all. Debate don't argue, it's so much more challenging.

Good debate. I have: "Dream On" was recorded in 1976 by Atlantic Records, the producer of the song was Jimmy Page, who also played the guitar part of the song, and lyrics were sang by Robert Plante. In the 1980's, Aerosmith produced a remake of the Zeppelin song with permission from Jimmy Page.
As Doby posted, Aerosmith's first album (which included Dream On) came out in 1973. I could only find one nut out there claiming that Zep originally wrote Dream On. I coudln't cite sources, but I can check at home - I'm pretty sure the songwriting credit is S. Tyler, as well...

What crap this is! :) But good music history lessons... hehe

I am doing quite lovely this evening. Listening to the excellent 7/16 Meadows concert I had the privelage to attend and eating pretzels. It may not sound exciting but its keeping me happy. :)

well, hey now! i'm glad you found a place to call your own. :) we should all have a voice and opinion to speak, right? that's one thing i enjoyed about Nancies. you have to go a bit out of your way to view the post count. and post counts shouldn't have a bearing on whether you are viewed as an 'idiot' or not (or whether people should pay attention to you), but many times, it is.

that's the way i felt here, so the thread was created. i'm glad it's getting a bit of use.

nice. the progressing tour has certainly been fun to listen to. do you have any other shows? i was listening to 7/26 the other day and it sounded pretty nice. the tapers are being considerably generous in getting shows out ASAP. can't thank 'em enough.

I don't have any other '04 shows yet, my internet has been acting up lately. I was lucky to have been able to download 7/16, though it took me about a week. :lol Once it gets under control again I'm planning on downloading as much as possible from the tour, I'm really diggin' the new songs.
