thought this might be a nice place for all of us older....er, MATURE Ants to hang out...
reminisce about mood rings, pet rocks, toe socks...
discuss our various aches and pains, invasive undignified medical procedures....
whatever floats your boat!
anyone interested?
:)

Hi there -- 38 years young here. Wasn't high school just a few years ago? :)
Just because we are over 35 doesn't mean we always have to act like it. For example, I just ate two pieces of apple pie for lunch, just because I felt like it.
Do you think that the opposite is true? Are there 17 year olds out there who feel 35? I doubt it. If you're out there, reveal yourselves. :p
Now feeling sick. Why didn't somebody more mature stop me?
And yes, it feels as though high school ended about four months ago. Ah...memories, memories: flock of seagulls, boy george, horse drawn wagons, ....;)

hey, this is great :)
i just KNEW there were a few more "grownups" out there :thumbsup
it seems the general concensus is that
a) we don't FEEL old, therefore we are NOT old (yaaay)
b) where the hell did the past 20-25 years go? :freak
TOPIC: how do we feel about the songs we danced to at prom being used in commercials? or worse, the "OLDIES" radio station?

Hey,
That looks just like my yearbook! What grade was that? I forgot about those hairstyles. One girl in my class curled the front of her hair back so that it looked like two sausage rolls hanging down by the side of her face. I tried, but I could never get it to work on my hair. I was so jealous. :lol

TOPIC:
kid's cereal....
remember when the only time you ever SAW a cereal commercial was during saturday morning cartoons?
remember when the word SUGAR was boldly emblazoned on all the boxes of "good" cereal? now kellogg's is proud of HALF the sugar :freak what the hell?
we thrived on that weekend sugar buzz, eh?
remember when cereal boxes had prizes in them? good prizes too! like that little boat that ran on baking soda and your mom would slap you for messing up the entire kitchen?
remember (if you were poor) you got that huge bag of non-sugar coated fakeass sugar crisps? they tasted like little styrofoam puffs and stuck to the insides of your mouth. i damn near choked to death when i was 9 on that crap
remember those bitchin license plates in honeycombs? except they only put like ONE freakin' state in there so you had no chance in hell of "collecting all 50!" bastards

yay brenda,
You got it! I even see the lightbulb *puts on sunglasses*
About your cereal question: sadly my mother didn't let us eat sugar cereal when we were kids. We were allowed to have oatmeal, cream of wheat, shreddies or shredded wheat. I was scarred by being the only kid in my grade 4 class who had whole wheat bread in my lunch. And since I grew up in Canada, we didn't have cereal with USA license plates in them. or canadian plates for that matter. I feel deprived.:(
OklahomaMama
07-22-2004, 10:40 PM
aw, that sucks! you should go out right now and buy something that will rot your teeth and mind... just because you're a grown up and you CAN!
the "good" cereal was rather infrequent in my house :( if there was some, my foster mom's "real" kid got it and my sister and i ate the generic crap. *ick*
my foster mom always had those HUGE chunks of shredded wheat that came in those white papery bags... i remember thinking they looked like Kotex pads
:lol
now if i try to eat Cap'n Crunch the shit's so sweet it hurts my teeth :p

and thanks a lot... now i've got another moldy oldie song stuck in my head
"I wear my sunglasses at night...."
:lol
I think I'm making up for it now. See earlier post about eating two pieces of apple pie for lunch. Then I raided the goody bag that my daughter got from a birthday party. I guess the moral of the story is that if you don't let your kids eat lots of junk they'll become sugar addicts as adults! And now I'm washing it all down with a nice adult beverage!

I'm getting my braces off, y'know
But I have to wear a retainer
That's going to be really like a total bummer
I'm freaking out
I'm SURE
Like those things that like stick in your mouth
They're so gross...
You like get saliva all over them
But like, I don't know, it's going to be cool, y'know
So you can see my smile
It'll be like really cool
Except my like my teeth are like too small
But NO BIGGIE...
It's so AWESOME
It's like TUBULAR, y'know
Well, I'm not like really ugly or anything
It's just like
I don't know
You know me, I'm like into like the clean stuff
Like PAC-MAN and like, I don't know
Like my mother like makes me do the dishes
It's like so GROSS. . .
Like all the stuff like sticks to the plates
And its like, it's like somebody elses food, y'know
It's like GRODY...
GRODY TO THE MAX
I'm sure
It's like really nauseating
Like BARF OUT
GAG ME WITH A SPOON
GROSS
I am SURE
TOTALLY...

awesome! :thumbsup
this deserves to be out in the open :lol
Are you a 70's child?
You're probably aged 25-35 if...
You wore anything Izod, especially those wind-breakers that folded up into a pouch you could wear around your waist.
You owned a Jordache anything, or you remember when Jordache jeans were cool.
In your sophomore class picture, you're wearing a shirt with the collar "up".
You know, by heart, the words to Weird Al Yankovic's songs.
The Brady Bunch Movie brings back warm memories.
You remember the days when "safe sex" meant "my parents are going out of town".
You thought "Weird Science" was a masterpiece.
You remember any of the following: Echo and the Bunnymen, Cutting Crew, Scritti Politti, or Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark.
Your first musical purchase was an 8-track tape.
Chevy Chase was really funny in those vacation movies.
You remember "Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV.
A predominant colour in your childhood photos is "plaid".
While in high school, you and all your friends discussed elaborate plans to get together again at the end of the century and play "1999" by Prince over and over again.
You remember that music that was labeled "alternative" really was.
You took family trips BEFORE the invention of the mini-van and remember riding in the back of the station wagon trying to get passing trucks to honk at you.
You often catch yourself saying "When I was your age", "Youth is wasted on the young", "I used to be able to do that", or "What is that thing called again?".
You can recite the Preamble to the Constitution, but only to the tune of Schoolhouse Rock.
You ever dressed like a cast member of a Duran Duran, Madonna, Rick Springfield, or Cyndi Lauper video.
You actually know who Rick Springfield is.
You know the origin of the phrase "Where's the beef?".
You remember when film critics were certain that no movie could ever possibly get better special effects than those in the movie TRON.
You wanted to move to Hawaii because that's where Magnum lived.
If male: your first love was Marsha Brady, Jeannine, Samantha from Bewitched, Josie or any one of the Pussycat.
If female: you thought that Shawn Cassidy was "dreamy", lusted after "Ted, your ship's photographer" on the Love Boat or Chachi.
You don't even want to remember the hairstyles you had in the 80's.
You've shopped at a Banana Republic or Benetton, but not in the last five years, OK?
You actually remember Benetton.
You're starting to believe that having the kids go to school all year wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
You ever asked to be gagged with a spoon.
You remember when there was only "G", "PG", and "R".
You were not allowed to see The Exorcist, The Omen, or The Blue Lagoon when they came out.
You learned to swim at about the same time that Jaws came out and still carry the emotional scars.
You remember wanting to stay up to see Mr. Bill on Saturday Night Live.
You actually remember Mr. Bill.
You tuned in regularly to the adventures of the Bionic Man and Woman, Wonder Woman, and/or the Incredible Hulk.
You ever wanted to learn to play "Stairway to Heaven" on the guitar and choreographed "Dancing Queen" by yourself in your room.
You know all the words to the double-album set of Grease.
"All-skate, change directions" means something to you.
You ever owned a set of "Pop-Wheels", that handy little combination of shoe and roller skate that lasted about a year on the open market.
You still wonder if Mikey died from a lethal cocktail of Pop Rocks and Coca Cola.
The first time you ever kissed someone was at a dance during "Crazy for You" by Madonna.
You freaked out when you found that you now fall into the "26 to 40" age category on questionnaires.
You remember trying to guess the first episode of the Brady Bunch from the first scene.
You had ringside seats for Luke and Laura's wedding.
You know who shot J.R.
This rings a bell: "and my name, is Charlie. They work for me."
You ever had a Dorothy Hammill haircut or used Short and Sassy shampoo.
You sat with your friends on a Friday night and dialed "8-6-7-5-3-0-9" to see if Jenny would answer.
You remember having to get off the couch to change the TV channel.
You could sing "99 Red Balloons" in English and in German.
Most of the fillings in your mouth are directly related to Bazooka or Bubble Yum.
Rotary phones.
Leg warmers were cool.
It was a major accomplishment to get to the "Chase" scene in Ms. Pacman.
You ever owned a Donnie and Marie or Sonny and Cher poster.
There was nothing strange about Bert and Ernie living together.

You remember "Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV
Yep, we used to be out partying on friday night and we would make sure we were at somebodys house in time for Friday Night Videos.
You took family trips BEFORE the invention of the mini-van and remember riding in the back of the station wagon trying to get passing trucks to honk at you.
Oh Ya, In the old VW Bus. My three bros would alway try to get the truckers to honk.
You actually know who Rick Springfield is.
Ya but all the guys hated him because all the girls loved him.
If male: your first love was Marsha Brady, Jeannine, Samantha from Bewitched, Josie or any one of the Pussycat
Yep, Marsha Brady, the original babe!!
You ever had a Dorothy Hammill haircut or used Short and Sassy shampoo
Dorothy Hammill was the first chick i really cheched out were I was looking at the whole package, legs, ass, crotch.......she was hot in that ice skating outfit.

Alright, a contribution..... anyone remember typing up computer PUNCHCARDS  and submitting them to the giant room full of "computers"? (only to discover you made a typo and you have to do it all over again, waiting in line for another four hours while everyone else is doing the same thing)?
Try explaining that to an 18 year old.....

didn't get cable til my senior year then it was only about 10 channels... but it beat one snowy, fuzzy channel and me climbing up on the roof like a monkey to fix the antenna.... remember aluminum foil covered "rabbit ears"?

speaking of computers:
when i was in HS the only computers in the entire school were in the "computer lab" .... it consisted of five 10" screen monitor IBMs
the only kids who were allowed to take that class had to pass Algebra II and Calculus first.
i was not one of those students
