Anybody have an opinion on the Epiphone version of the les pauls? I know they're a lot cheaper, and was thinking about getting one. Anyone who has played an epiphone and a gibson: do you think theres a big difference in the feel? I think they look pretty accurate.

my buddy Metallinut recently got an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, I know he's really liking it. I'll point him towards this thread so he can share his opinions.

On another note, I got myself and Epiphone Les Paul Junior, VERY cheap guitar, but it's pretty decent for only $99 :) The tuners are fairly poor, but other than that it's a pretty solid guitar.

Yeah, I got an Epiphone LP Standard Plus [vintage sunburst]. I absolutely love it [but I am coming off a Mexican made Fender Strat, so...] I've never played the Gibson LP, but I couldn't be happier with the sound and playability of the Epiphone. If you've got $2200 burning a hole in your pocket, than sure, go for the "Real Thing." But if not, $549 is a lot easier to stomach, IMHO...

I just picked up a mexican strat and it's awesome. I played an american one in the store and it sounded and played the exact same. Can you please explain to me what is worth the extra $500+?

being able to play the same guitar a few years from now is worth 500 more smackers.

ive got a limited edition epiphone les paul, modeled after the joe perry gibson les paul. i bought it for its sound and the fact that it looks dead fucking sexy. black/silver sunburst. the only complaint i have is my wiring is kinda fucked. so i think that i will have to re-wire sometime. the thing sounds amazing. i love it, mine cost me around 900 but you can get them cheeper

ok so it turns out it's not the tuners that suck on my Epiphone Les Paul Junior, it's the nut. It's grooved poorly on the D string, making the string bind at the nut and preventing it from tuning properly. So I filed out the groove a bit and the string is much smoother through the nut, not 100% right yet (i'll fix it next time I change strings), but MUCH better than it was before!

Thanks for everyones input, just to let you guys know I'm planning on getting an epiphone LP Jr. probably, as it comes for free with 2 round trip tickets on Song Airlines... cheapass me, cant spend $89 on a guitar, hahaha... I think its a pretty solid promotion, one round trip ticket earns you 100 iTunes downloads, and 3 earns you an iPod mini.

as long as we are talking about les pauls, how about imitation les pauls that are not epiphone?? there are many brands that model after after the les paul but are they as good as the epiphone ones??

I'm pretty sure the pickups are different...
