I was guitar shopping for most of the morning, trying and playing a bunch of different guitars. My price range is right around $400. I picked up the Taylor big baby and thought it sounded great, real full and solid. I was wondering what everyone elses opinion of it was, if it's something I should think about getting. Thanks.

1>) get that
2.) save up another 400 and get a 310
3.) save up another hundred or so and get a 110
4.) save up for a 214

So if I didn't have the extra money and needed a good guitar relatively soon you would recommend the big baby?

I was looking for a new guitar and picked the big baby up and loved it. Like you said its great sounding, but it does have a relatively higher pitch then most guitars. But in my case, when playing with someone else it sounds kinda cool. But i'd def. recomend it, there is one problem. The neck actually has 2 screws in it (from the outside) and after 2 years they came loose and i had to get it all adjusted. But anyway.... buy the guitar, great price for a good guitar

i have one and it's a great value. you'll want a better guitar if you keep playing a lot, but at least you won't have overspent on a crappy guitar -- it's actually quite nice.

edit: to correct someone earlier, it doesn't have a higher pitch but rather it has a (very slightly) thinner tone than your standard dreadnought guitar (i.e. taylor 310). if it had a higher pitch it wouldn't be EADGBE standard tuning, would it?

I can not say enough about the Big Baby.

I have had mine for a year and learned how to play on it.
The action is awsome, and it stays in tune forever.
Also the smaller scale is great for begginers especaily if your are planning on playing DMB songs.

For the price it is hard to find a better guitar on the market.

I recently bought a 514 but still go back to the Big Baby cause it is so fun to play.

:D

I wasn't all that impressed with the Big Baby myself...had WAY too bright of a tone for me and not enough bass. Also didn't sound very good to my ear when I played it hard.

That would be my only complaint. Not enough on the low end.
