i have an old hohner that i want to put in an alternate tuning thats too much of a pain in the ass to keep switching back and forth into.
anyone have any suggestions?

drop Db... i've written 2 songs in it and its fun to use, but sometimes gets repetitive... you could do raised B

i was thinking raised b but how do you do it without destroying your guitar?

Try open C tuning. Don't do that drop D crap (unless you're trying to do Creed covers or just play Bartender all day and brag about how you use an "alternate tuning"); everybody uses dropped this and the raised that. Get away from cliche tunings. Open chord tunings will open a whole new realm of music for you. Trust me, it's alot of fun. And a slide makes it much more fun.

any geetar gurus know how much wiggle room there is when it comes to neck stress and alternate tunings?

Drop-D isn't something you permanantly re-tune your guitar to because it's too much trouble to change it back and forth. Drop-D is something you turn the tuning key to when you want to play a song in it.
By the way, I've never heard anybody brag about using Drop-D and call it an alternate tuning.
