Why does everybody get a boner over Taylors? I'm not knocking on you specifically Chad, just in general. It seems that the only guitars on the board are ones Dave plays.

dave plays martins too
i just prefer taylors b/c i think that they are easier to play than martins and still have an awesome sound

They are nice.... high quality guitars... its either that or a Martin.. and the cheaper martins didnt give me an interest...

I think Taylors get such a good rep around everywhere because of their quality and value along with being a great company. I'm about to purchase my second Taylor, I've played lots of other high end guitars but I always seem to go back to the Taylors because of their playability and sound.

Agreed. I tried all the guitars at the same price point in several shops.
No bias whatsoever, Taylors won for playability, materials, sound, looks and electronics.

My limited experience is that it's not even a contest at that $1000-$1500 price point. Taylors are just better than Martins. Now, if we're talking $2500 guitars, the decision is more difficult. So, I'll probably never buy one unless I get good and famous so buying both is not a problem.

it has more to do with the fact htat taylors are just really good, and dave happens to play on one. not the other way around...taylors were good long before dave played on one.

How do you like yours? I'm about to get a 414 w/Rosewood. I can't wait to try out the ES system.

Absolutly love it. Mine has Embuia back and sides. Makes for a very punchy
tight sound for strong rhythms, but sings real nice for finger picked stuff.
I tried a rosewood. had a warmer sound, but no ES.
Make sure you get the ES. not only sounds spectacular, but really cleans
up the side of the guitar with just the 3 knobs. Got a great deal on it new.

Taylors are great guitars, but there are a lot of great guitars out there.
Expensive Taks, Larrivee, Gibson.
Let's be honest. There is definatly a Taylor bias on this thread. Go to Harmony Central and check out there "Gear" thread. Sure, a lot of guys have Taylors. But a lot also have and dream of having other brands.
There definatly is a bias.

If there's a bias, I believe it's warranted. I recently purchased an 814-CE and I tried and even wanted to find something that could compete with it sound-wise. I couldn't.
I had to take my Taylor back in for a buzz issue and I tried again to find something that I liked better. I played A D-28, HD-28, D-35, D-40, Gibsons, a 1952 Gibson, 1973 D-28....none were even close.
Dave played Ovations...can't stand the sound. Dave played a Chet...don't like the feel. Dave plays Martins...just went over that. I'm not sure that the lean toward Taylor on these boards has anything to do with Dave Matthews.
Congratulations!! I know how happy you are right now.

love my Taylor....just a perfect guitar....
I would buy a Martin in a heartbeat if they had different necks......I just do NOT like the necks on their guitars
..something about the shape that makes my had cramp up in 8 different directions....oh well.

i never liked like 300 series, or the 800. i like the 600/700 series personally for a "mid range" taylor
i haven't found a martin i liked either, glad i'm not the only one
i'm also a big fan of alvarez's. i'd take one of those over an entry level taylor any day

I was going to buy a 310ce or 314ce back about a month or two ago, but due to being only 17, I could only afford something under $1k. Taylors are the shit, I love them. I love how they sound, feel, look, play, etc. One day I'll have one.
I settled for a Martin DCX-1E. I wanted cutaway dreadnought or cutaway grand concert w/ electronics, so I pretty much got what I wanted with the Martin, just with a less big of a dent out of my wallet.
It's a great guitar for the money (paid like $650). Sounds beautiful, it's got the legendary Martin tone. It's got a nice top on it, and the sides and back are a formica type material that wont age. The neck is rather well crafted. The Fishman 4 seamlessly transmits the sound to an amplifier.
Once again, overall, great guitar for the cash, and Martins and Taylors are the best (don't want to sound cliche, but it's true.)
