Relax my friend, check out Star & Trib article from today. They all have small annoying injuries. I didn't go throughthe whole thing, but have you heard about Morneau? He had every ailment this past offseason - and he is reporting to camp today or tomorrow.
They will be OK. This is still the first week, and they have said that they will not push their players.

You're right. Just minor stuff. Minor.
The Twins depth this year is incredible, especially on the mound.
Brad Radke
Johan Santana
Carlos Silva
Kyle Lohse
Joe Mays
and in AAA(just in case)
JD Durbin
Dave Gassner
Plus at 3rd we have Cuddyer and Tiffee who are both good power hitters. Short has 4 nice prospects, too. Add in the 4 outfielder rotation of Hunter, Jones, Stewart and Ford and don't forget 'does everything but pitches' Lecroy. The Twins are looking deep this year. Ready to handle anything.

Matthew - will you please insert a link to the cover story in Star Trib today - all about pitchers. LeCroy was quoted as saying Mays has his stuff back, just needs to gain confidence (sp? i still suck at spelling).
Deep rotation; Rivas has gained some muscle and is ready to prove himself; best outfiled in baseball; Restovich waiting, and is out of options...
Prediction: Jones WILL be traded this year, we have way too many young players who a ready to play in the big leagues. To trade away youth would be a horrible move, and who could we get? Jones would allow us to get a starting player if we need one - or more young players.

Maybe since it looks like the Twins are gonna have a number of guys trying to play short this year, if as the season goes on a clear #1 cant be decided upon the Twins could see if they might get a good shortstop in return for Jones. Not sure who it would be, but its something to think about

Where's the Smoke? In the Twins' Bullpen.
La Velle E. Neal III, Star Tribune
February 28, 2005
FORT MYERS, FLA. -- Twins General Manager Terry Ryan doesn't believe he has a bullpen full of prototypical, here-it-is, try-to-hit-it fireballers.
Still, he admitted that his team has evolved when it comes to procuring and developing pitchers who throw hard.
"About 10 years ago we did not have that much velocity in the organization." he said, "but now we have a few guys who have that."
Quite a few. With a major league bullpen full of hard throwers, led by closer Joe Nathan, and a minor league system that includes Travis Bowyer and Francisco Liriano, the Twins have pitchers throughout the system who can rear back and finish off hitters with a good fastball.
"No. 1, it's a tribune to our scouting department for bringing these types of pitchers into the organization," Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said. "What you like about the power arms is that you don't have to worry about matchups as much."
Nathan, Juan Rincon, Grant Balfour and Jesse Crain -- all of whom can hit 95 miles per hour on the radar gun -- gave opponents fits last season.
They also brought a little swagger to a bullpen that was untested heading into last season. Twins relievers struck out 445 batters last year, fourth best in the American League. The bullpen's 3.97 ERA was fifth best in the league.
Ryan also considers lefthander J.C. Romero, who reaches 93 mph at times, a power pitcher.
"Because he's lefthanded," Ryan said. "There aren't many lefthanders who can throw 93."
Twins starters are more confident than ever that the bullpen can finish what they begin.
"It's good to know that you have those guys right behind you," lefthander Johan Santana said. "We have a pretty good bullpen. I think it's one reason why we led the league in ERA.
"Everyone can throw, and they can blow you away with fastballs. Not just fastballs either."
Nathan, whose first pitch in the majors was 97 mph, threw a pitch in Detroit last season that was recorded at 100 mph on the Comerica Park scoreboard.
A reporter suggested the next day that the park's radar gun was malfunctioning.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Nathan yelled, playfully, at the reporter.
The next game, Grant Balfour was clocked at 101, muting Nathan.
"It's all right here, Joe," Balfour boasted while pointing at his bicep.
Twins relievers have other above-average pitches to go with the fastball. Nathan (44 saves last season) and Crain (3-0, 2.00 in 27 innings) have good sliders and curveballs. Rincon (11-6, 2.63) and Balfour (4-1, 4.35) also have good sliders.
"It's not just with the fastball," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We've got guys who can spin it up there, too."
Nathan is the only one of the group who came up through a different organization. Several years ago, the Twins made an effort to identify more pitchers with good velocity.
Twins scouting director Mike Radcliff said that in most cases the club looks for starting pitchers, as Balfour, Rincon and Romero were before they settled into bullpen roles.
"We have a velocity development program," Radcliff said, "We believe that if you get the right type of body and arm action, you can increase velocity in time."
Bowyer, a righthander in his first major league camp, is the best example. A 20th-round pick in 1999, Bowyer entered the organization throwing 86-88 mph. Now 6-3 and 215 pounds, Bowyer hit 99 mph more than once last year at Class AA New Britain. He was 6-3 with a 1.76 ERA in 31 games there, and he struck out 65 in 61.1 innings.
"He's the poster guy," Radcliff said.
Liriano, a lefthander acquired with Nathan in 2003 for catcher A.J. Pierzynski, struck out 125 batters in 117 innings at Class A Fort Myers before being promoted to Class AA New Britain, where he was 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA in seven starts with 49 strikeouts in 39 innings. Some in the organization feel he'll consistently hit 94-95 mph by the time he reaches the majors but needs to work on his control.
Liriano will have to learn the same lessons that Rincon, Crain and other hard-throwing Twins relievers have had to learn as they developed. It's great to make batters swing at a vapor trail, but it won't matter if it's not near the plate.
"Velocity helps you out a lot, no question," Rincon said, but only if you know how to use it.
"You try to throw as hard as you can, but if you're not hitting your spots, it's no good. That's what happened to me the first couple of years."
Photo Caption:
Twins pitcher Juan Rincon, who was 11-6 last season, is one of several Twins relievers who can throw 95 miles per hour.

Jacque Jones or Justin Jones? Too many Joneses...
I can't see them getting rid of Jacque after the season he gave us last year. I guess we'll play it by ear, but if we start dealing away talent like that the Twins will be just another farm club for the other teams in the league. They're already very young as it is, and I 'd hate to see them lose another player they've worked so hard to develop.
Justin better not be going anywhere, either. We traded Mientkiewicz away for that 19 year old single A player, we'd better keep him around. He'd better be DAMN good after that deal...

Oh. Yeah. Fox sports pack is $6 per month. I wanted to just add FSN North, but that was $3.50 by itself. So for an extra $2.50 I get 19 other channels... :ugh

Go check various retailers. We had direct but switched to dish as they gave us a free High Definition receiver and a free DVR receiver. See what promos are going and then pick.

Don't expect much out of Lohse...but, if he can keep his head in check, he should get 10 - 12 wins. If he becomes a head case, he won't be on the team...we have a couple young guys who are ready to come up to be starters. Plus, there is Joe Mays.

I disagree. I think he's past his mental jitters. Lohse is going to have a break-out year. He'll be the one of biggest surprises in the Twins arsenal. Look for him to win 15-19. Last year was bad, no one can deny that, especially after his steady success and a promising 03 season. I really think that he's fine tuned his motion and if he can keep his pitch count average below 15 per inning, he'll do great things. You heard it here first.
Oh Yeah, Bartlett should not be batting in the #2 spot, Gardy!

Man, he better...I mean, LAST season was supposed to be his breakout season. If he doesn't produce ths year, he will be on a short leash.
Not that I don't like him - I do - but it is frustrating year after year when a pitcher is supposed to break out, then they suck. They come back the next year, and disappear.
So, if he has a halfway decent year - look for 10 -14 wins. If he does better, GREAT! Like I said earlier, if he doesn't start out right, there are plenty of options for the Twins this year...
Bartlett batting #2 is tough...

That's bad. Very bad. At least the twins have Gassner ready to go and a lot of other depth into AAA. Carlos is a huge asset to the team. I think that the Milton for Punto & Silva trade was one of the best in recent years. He's going to be gone for the season. No way they'll just remove the cartilage and leave the ligament damaged.
The team looks very shaky right now, but it'll settle. They're young and jittery, once they settle into the routine of the season and get healthy they'll start playing soundly. Morneau has taken a lot of licks to the head over his years between the pipes, he'll be OK.

Ask and you shall receive....
If I remember correct, he only threw 5 innings - but gave up those magical 3 runs. Mays was on the radio and he was pissed off at himself for giving up the homerun and his walks. I was unable to see last nights game, but I heard his curve was beautiful.
Just had to turn down executive seats (read sit where ever you want) tonight because I have a stupid meeting about something I won't be doing next year :BANG

I didn’t know that until last night, 40 innings worth. I think Percival is starting to lose his dominance; his fastball doesn’t seem to be what it used to.

Seems like a common problem this season with closers....
On a different note...
Way to go Twins! Finally, scored a run (5) in the first inning...they still have not scored first in any game...
Silva's issues have taken a positive turn? They say he will be ready to go soon, maybe make his next scheduled start...
Mauer with the bunt single :cool Power and finesse...and SPEED! Let's just hope his knee is healthy...
Win Twins...finish off those Tigers, and get ready for a nice stretch!!!

That was pretty impressive what they did last night, even Tiffee got in on the action. That is quite a swing, to hear that Silva might be out all year to maybe only missing one start? Let’s hope his knee is strong enough and doesn’t crumble underneath him and ruin his entire career

All we needed was another knee issue, but, it seems he has gome out of his way to make sure he can pitch...3 doctors ok'd him...we'll see...
And Morneau's concussion realy scares me...former hockey player with 4 prior concussions? NOT GOOD. Let's hope he is ok, and returns sometime soon...I really want to see him and Mauer play 90 - 100 games ogether this year...

There was an article in the STrib this morning about injuries and such and they were talking to Stewart and his injury from last year. He said no one is ever 100%, if they tell you that they are lying, but what makes you 100% is going out there on a daily basis and performing, whether or not you are in top physical condition.
Morneau getting hit in the head was probably the worst thing to happen, seems like such a small thing compared to what can happen to a ball player but if his marbles are scrambled there’s no way he’ll be able to step in to a batter’s box again.

Of course no player is really ever 100% - but for 3 doctors to say that he won't harm his body if he comes back - giddy up....

We needed a little more momentum going into Chicago than a loss off bases-loaded pitcher stupidity. I can understand had it gone to the 12th and they scored off a sac fly or something, that's good baseball. Romero's display was pathetic.

Yeah, what the fuck, we beat up on Detroit, continue that trend in Cleveland and don’t have enough left for the Sox, we’ve given them half their wins and we still aren’t far behind. Mauer is catching for the third day in a row, Morneau hit a homer in an extended spring training game, he’ll be back soon. Next time around the White Sux will get stomped, and fuck them for booing Torii, just because your catcher is a pussy and got trucked is no reason to hate on a guy for putting a run on the board. :twak

As much as i have good memories from the Dome and the fact that post-season Domefield advantage is very real with the noise and the roof; it's such a shitty place to watch a ball game. It's always so cold and hollow, and it's always been a football stadium that baseball can be played in. I like the new ballpark concept, but when are they going to build this beast?
My scenario:
If the Twins get their own stadium, the Vikings will want one. In fact they have pretty sketches too. If the Vikings get a new stadium, then the Gophers won't be able to anchor the Dome themselves(and they've been bitching for years about a field for their campus for years). So that's 3 new stadiums plus a vacant dome downtown. No way.
Sooooo. The Twins Move to St. Paul. It worked very well for the Wild. They build their stadium. It has a nice retractable roof. We'll call it 3M Park.
The Gophers and Vikings play in the Dome while they construct a good outdoor Big10 stadium on campus. Name it after Carlson, everything else is. Twins Happy, Gophers Happy.
They tear down the Dome. Sorry Dome, you're old. Vikings build a new stadium in its place. Meanwhile, they play their games at Carlson. We can call their new stadium anything. Best Buy, Northwest, General Mills, Schwans, Cargill, various banks, etc will all be falling over themselves to name this bad boy. It may or may not have a roll away roof, it should since this ain't Green Bay and we're smarter than your average Packer fan when it's -30 outside...
Where does all this money come from? The UofM will pester their alumni, and they'll get it no problem. The Twins aor Vikes however would need to go to the public, but only one will get what they want. Pohlad is a cheapskate and 3M needs to built first, so he'll win the race. The Vikes will just have to hit up the corporate realm and whore themselves out.

OK - so, to start things off, you WILL See the Twins team up with Hennepin County and try to get the funding (and will be successful) for a small stadium behind the Target Center.
Second...the U of MN has the financial plans set to go to the the Leg and ask for a little help...TCF has committed to being the sponsor - and pay a pretty penny for this fee (up to $100 mil). This will put a nice 55 - 65,000 seat outdoor stadium on campus.
Finally, the investors in this group put together by Reggie Fowler (yeah right, like he will be the controlling partner...Glen Taylor will own the Vikings) includes only land / real estate developers who are ready to foo the bill for a new stadium complex area with shopping, condos, etc. This will hopefully only ask for a little funding (less than $100 mil) which would be paid back....
Check out ctypages.com to see a wonderful article about how NWA screwed MN out of a few dollars, and have only removed jobs from this state...look what the Xcel did for downtown st paul...until the hockey strike :violent

Eddie has got it down. The FB stadium is the farthest along will probably be the first to get approved from what I've gathered. Like he said the Gophers are already on their way. The Twins, and probably the most deserving, will get their stadium last after everyone else or when Pohlad dies. Which ever comes first.

OK, some people will think I am crazy, but I have been "studying" this stadium issue for more than 9 years...when I was at the U of MN I took a class and we had this debate all of the time. I support the arts, schools and sports. We need to support the arts - but if we want "town pride" to contiue to ask our teams to play in the Metrodome is a joke.
So, as of right now, this is the way the stadiums sit...
1. Twins will be the first to seal up funding from the state. In a joint deal with Hennepin County, the WILL build the stadium behind the Target Center. Look for a deal to be completed before the end of this season. I ahev been saying this for years, but this will be the year. They will get all necessary work done in the legislature to address the sports issue.
2. Gophers will get a stadium with funding before the vikings. They have the private donors and site lined up. This may be completed this year, probably next year. Most of the funding for the gophers on campus stadium will be private or bonds which will be paid back.
3. The Vikings are still trying to qualify for the NFL's G3 funding program. This would give the Vikings anywhere from $50 - $150 million in cash up front. The group of investors looking to buy the team will privately finance the new stadium complex in Blain and ask for minimal state, county or city $$$$'s. This may b the first or last stadium to go through because it may not rely on public funding. If they end up asking for $$$ for thjis project, it will be the last one addressed.
The TWINS NEED to get out of the dome...then the Gophers...then the Vikings...if they could renovate it, I would be all for this, but I think the new owners will want the new complex to make $$$.
Win Twins!!!
