I can't say i'd like to keep Mays on my Fantasy team. He rarely gets more than 5 innings and it's stressful to watch.
On another note, we were up 1-0, i turn to ESPN to watch some poker and we're down 2-1 5 minutes later.
Hopefully they'll kick some ass tomorrow when i'm sitting in the dome.

Oh yeah, and I was at Harvey's in Downtown Minneapolis on Monday night for $1 beers, and who would come in, but the man himself, Justin Morneau. I hadn't watched the game that night, be apparently he was the only run for the Twins with a solo shot. My friends were speculating whether or not it was actually him, and I was the only one with balls to ask, so I did, he said yes, I shook his hand and that was that.

For those interested, I have been doing my baseball preview over in the MLB thread. Here is my Twins preview.
MINNESOTA TWINS
Why the Twins will make the playoffs: This has just been a very good franchise over the past 5 years. Smart deals using smart money. They get the most out of bargain players. Joe Maurer and Justin Morneau are an incredible tandem of young left-handed hitters. Maurer is a star. Morneau has a bunch of holes in his swing but with another full season in the majors, he is going to adapt. I love this outfield. It is the perfect outfield for a dome. Torii Hunter could run down a fly ball hit into downtown Duluth. He has to be healthy for these guys to do damage. Lew Ford is my kind of ballplayer: more hustle than talent. A good bullpen, a servicable rotation, with a superstar ace. This team is poised to contend.
Why they won't: The starting rotation is young and old. Johan Santana is awesome, but Brad Radke isn't what he used to be. He is going to either resusscitate his career or begin slipping into obscurity. Carlos Silva and Kyle Lohse both have very good stuff, but they are still green. Getting the ball to Joe Nathan won't be as easy, especially with the loss of all-world setup man, J.C. Romero.
Realistic goal: AL Wildcard. A lot of people think they can contend for the division title, but the White Sox are good...really good. They have just enough pitching and just enough offense to put up a lot of wins. This division isn't the walkover like it used to be either. If Lohse, Silva and Radke can combine for 40-45 wins, this team will have a great shot.
Best offseason move: Picking up Luis Castillo from the Marlins was very solid. With his addition the team is fast. Running on that turf, this team can steal bases at will. It hurts a little playing on that turf because the ball gets to the outfielders faster, making it harder to go first-to-third. Castillo will most likely hit leadoff, and will set things up nicely for a meaty middle.
Worst offseason move: The worst move, if any, was losing J.C. Romero. Quite frankly, the Twins didn't have the kind of money that Romero had earned/wanted. If they can get a young pitcher like Jesse Crain to step up, they will be fine. They had a very solid offseason, because they already had most of their pieces in place.
Breakout player: Joe Maurer. It is tough to call him a "breakout" player because he kind of already has broken out, but this guy is awesome. He has the sweetest left-handed swing for catcher. I love a catcher that has a potent bat combined with good catching skills. Maurer is no slouch behind the plate. Maurer could potentially hit 30 bombs and drive in 120 this season. It is tough for a catcher to stay healthy over a season, but he is young and will be able to take a beating.
Predicted finish: I like the makeup of the team, with a lot of speed, and a lot of defense, but relying on too much young talent is dangerous. It worked for the Braves last year, but the Twins have a lot of key roles filled with kids. They may have the best outfield in the AL though with Lew Ford, Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter. 88-74, third in the AL Central.

Twins kick off the preseason with a win over the idiots...errr... I mean the Red Sox, 6-3.
Torii Hunter homers on the first pitch he sees in the second inning. Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 on the day with a solo homer and an RBI single.
Johan Santana threw two scoreless innings while giving up one hit and striking out three. This will be Johan's only start in the preseason due to the World Baseball Classic.

Mauer signed a one year deal, after the season he'll be able to go to arbitration if they dont give him a nice pay raise. The Twins will be opening up the dome at 6pm Sunday for a memorial service to be held at 7pm.

Bar hopping in the suburbs is a real treat...if you wanted to see passionate fans, you should have gone downtown or uptown...
Not neglecting, nothing to say right now, the beginning of the season is the most difficult because you have to live through the shit like the Tigers leading the division for about 2 weeks, then they will fall...batting averages below the .200 mark...home opener tonight will have a few people there, too bad it will be another season in that damn dome, but hey, we are closer to getting the stadium thing figured out. :violent

Are they going to be giving Joe every third day off? If Rondell doesn’t start shaping up they could always use the guy who isn’t catching that day in the DH spot, it would keep Mauer in the lineup more often. Not that Redmond is going to keep up his nice hitting but it’s wishful thinking.

I was there. It was a GREAT win!
Although, I have to admit, I had given up hope.
Runners on second and third with no outs and we can't do anything?
After White and Hunter both struck out I have fully accepted in my heart that we lost the game.
Morneau to the rescue again. I've loved the way he plays the game since he first got called up 2 years ago in relief of Mientkiewicz.

No sac fly...there were 2 outs already....but, though I don't remember for sure, I didn't think Mauer was on third so a sac fly would have been tough.
It needed to fall or get out of the park to end on that pitch.
Edit: They just showed the highlights on Sportscenter. I was wrong, Mauer was on third. But there were 2 outs.

The pitching needs to improve very soon because we can't keep relying on big offencive outbursts and coming back in the late innings.

While I understand people never want more taxes, why are people complaining soooo much about 15 cents tax on $100?
I just looked at the renderings (some I hadn't seen) of the stadium, and looked on google maps for where it's gonna be, and I think this would just be awesome. It's less than a mile from where I work.
Hopefully this goes through and I can buy my tickets to opening day '09..maybe '10.

I think people like to argue the principal of the tax and not the actual amount, which doesnt make any damn sense/cents (which is exactly how much the tax is). Where are the people who convinced the people to build a fucking dome, they must have done something right when it came to that.

If not, the original tax would not affect them...however, now that the PIECES OF SHIT in the State Senate have FUCKED UP another stadium plan which was OK...I am sick of this shit...the Metrodome SUCKS SHIT!!! Sorry, I tend to rant now because I have been fighting the fight for 10 years now...Im sick of this. When the Twins initially wanted a retractable roof stadium at was around $350 million, now we are over $500 million, and the cost continues to rise every minute we wait...They do not have along term lease at the Dome, and sooner or later, San Antonio or Las Vegas WILL take our Twins away, and that will suck...

No they don't. I haven't talked to them about the dome since this new proposal hit the public. It's not a statewide vote for a tax on Hennipan county right? Before this latest plan is was a statewide sales tax right?
No, the there are 2 newer proposals being floated around... 1 has 1/2 % sales tax increase in the seven county metro area...the second one is tied into the Gopher stadium proposal, 11.5% tax on sports memorabilia (sp?) :eek ...and the original plan was 0.5% sales tax in Henepin County.
The idiots at the Capitol will not take responsibility and want to put referrendum outs there if there is any kind of tax increase. They don;t need to do this, but it covers thier butts come election time...and the referrendoms would be held inthe affected counties, so if it is the Hennepin County tax, Henn County will vote on the prop.
Now Gov Tim Paw has decided the Twins are priority number one, and they NEED a new stadium, he has no interest in losing them on his watch...so next week should be the most exciting time for stadium wishers (such as myself) as all three should come to a vote...
All I want is to be able to go to a baseball park, and face the playing field without turning in my POS seat, seeing green grass, open air (closed on bad days :D)...there really is nothing better than going to a ball game on a beauiful spring / summer / fall day. I HATE THE METRODOME, and if the Twins don't get a stadium soon, Carl should sell them and let them leave. I can't belive I would ever say that, but enough is enough...:mad

For some reason, I think Detroit has had an outdoor stadium for, um, 80 - 100 years, and they are doing just fine...New York City, Boston - I think they are all outdoors, and aren't much "warmer" cities than we are...

I was too young to remember ol Met Stadium...I did go to a lot of events at the Met Center...and baseball is meant to be played outside. So what if a few games a a little chilly, the seats will be heated...we will survive.
Now, Pohlad needs to sign Liriano and Santana to lifetime contracts and we will have a nice pitching rotation for the next 10 years or so...not to mention a pretty good catcher starting to grow up...:cool

There are many South Park references that should NEVER be stated out of context...I mean, I love South Park, and when they are making "inappropriate comments" they usually don't make a simple statement and leave it at that...that was exactly what you did...hope you learned you lesson...watch what you say, how you say it, and where you say it.

Dan, you do crack me up sometimes...
...GREAT game last night...three very strong pitching performances in a row give us a little light...albeit a very little light...
...really enjoyed the interview with Johan, he called Fransico the "franchise" while Fransico was sitting right next to him...what agreat 1-2 combo, although we need another good young right handed starter to put in between those two...
A sweep would be nice...as would another Grand Slammer!!!
Win Twins!!!

I'm not 5 years old, so saying, "I hope you learned your lesson" doesn't really mean much to me if its not coming from my father. I understand you were turned off by it and I'm sorry, but being chastised on a forum board isnt going to make me run off to church and ask for forgiveness.....especially when its 3 weeks after the fact.

Let it be known, the Twins have climbed out of 4th place and are a full game ahead of this Indians. Yes...they're still 11 games out. But with the improved pitching and the sudden influx of offence that we seemed to have found by hitting grand slams...there's still a chance. We need to make up some ground in late June/early July and if we can make up 3-5 games by the time the all-star game hits...we could have a chance this year.

Hey don't look now Twins fans but your twanks have won 8 in a row and 10 of the last 11. They've also gone above .500 for the first time since April 15th when we were 6-5.
Now I know we're still aways back (11 1/2) but with the way the pitching has finally come back to form and the hitting has exploded nothing is impossible. Big test will be the return of Roger Clemens on Thursday. It will be an awesome test for Liriano who goes up against the Rocket in the series closer.

Another great outing by Liriano last night. If the Twins can keep together Santana, Liriano, Mauer, Morneau and Kubel they will have a scary good foundation to build on.

We got a dominant outing by Radke this afternoon, amazing things do happen. I know the Cubs are pretty happless lately but Radke gives up first inning homers to the batboys. Its good to see the rotation is starting to put up some quality starts, I'm going to start assuring a win any time Santana or Liriano hit the mound.

it's a shame we dug ourselves into such a big hole to start the year or we'd be right in the thick of the central race. the schedule is going to lend itself to some wins down the strech of the 1st half of the season so hopefully the tiggers and whine sux will lose a couple.

I'm going to start assuring a win any time Santana or Liriano hit the mound. Don't do that, Liriano is the anchor to my fantasy team. If people start assuring and guaranteeing shit, he's going to hit a slump, and I can't afford that...

The rest of July is very very important if we want to get back into one of these races.
4 vs. TB
3 @ Cleveland
3 @ WS
3 vs. Cleveland
During or TB series, the WS and Detroit play 3. I'd love to win all 4 of those and then go 6-3 during our Cleveland-WS-Cleveland tour. If we go above .500 in that 9 game strech I think we'd be sitting ok.
btw we're still 11 back in the divisional race and only 6.5 back in the WC. although that's only good for 4th place in the WC. Yankees and Blue Jays are between us.

I went to the game tonight, Liriano was phenomenal, its too bad his shutout came crashing down because Terry Tiffee was playing first and dropped a standard throw from the short stop. Gardy should have never pinch hit for Morneau, he would have caught the relay throw and Liriano would have gotten his first career complete game shut out, it was a shame to see it end the way it did. Rondell White and Joe Mauer need to go back to base running school, both made 2 base running mistakes each that lead to outs, luckily they didnt factor in to the game.
