All the boys we keep bringing up from AAA to fill in the rotation are failing miserably……is it time for them to bite the bullet and bring up Garza? With Liriano hurting and Radke pitching with something that should have him on the DL, is it time for a move before we get too far behind?

When was he out of the running?

He was flying under the radar for a couple of weeks, but now is tied for league lead in wins, among other accomplishments...last night Dick & Bert read through all the stats where he is top 5 for all pitchers -and the list will continue to grow...the man is a God after the all star break.

By this chart it seems that the Tigers should have an advantage the rest of the way. They get the Royals 6 more times and both series are at the end of the year. Tack on 4 games with Baltimore and they are sitting very pretty right now.

As for us and the bitch sox, we look to be in a tad bit better shape than them. They only have 2 more series against sub .400 teams but they are their next two series this year (late Aug/early Sept). We get one now and one as the next to last series.

It looks like we have a distinct advantage to the number of home games we have left as opposed to the bitch sox. But one drawback is that we have a 10 game road swing.

So what does this all mean? That it's really close and this is probably going to go down to the wire.

I think that we all can safely say that barring a major collapse at this point, Detroit will win the division. We've seen them comback to earth in the past couple weeks but I just don't see them slipping any farther back with such an easy schedule the rest of the way.

The Twins and the bitch sox WC will probably be decided on that final weekend.

I wasn’t able to watch the game yesterday but I heard Bert let a few expletives slip during the pre-game conversation because he thought they were being taped and not broadcast live. It was something like, “Shit, can we do that again, I fucked up?” He was then told it was live and spent the rest of the game apologizing for it. They better not do something irrational in light of this situation; I’d hate to see Bert cast from the booth because of an honest mistake.

yeah. I know it's a little late but here's the article:

I don't know if he's back yet?

I guess the segment is usually taped or it was taped the previous two games and nobody told him that it was live. I guess Bert knows he made a mistake and my guess is that they'll forgive him. There are fines that will probably be involved with the FCC.

One game apiece for the Twins and Tigers. If we can split, I won't be to upset. A win today w/ Boof would give Nebraska a great chance to take 3 with Santana on Sunday.

oh I don't know if I'd start making up homer hankey's yet. Chicago has some great bats and can litteraly slug their way into the WC. We've got a downright streaky offense. Sometimes we'll go out and put 12 on the board and others we'll throw a goose egg up against the Royals.

But we are in a real good place. I still don't want to count on the Tiggers coming back to us. I'd love to have one more series with them this year so we could catch them ourselves. But at least we have the bitch sox at the end of the year so we can put the nail in the coffin on them (if we need to).

That definitely stuns the post season buzz, but they've gained 9 games on Detroit since Liriano's initial injury and I think they can keep that steam the rest of the season. Especially considering tonight's victory. The bullpen is still the best in the league, and Santana is simply masterful. It'll be an exciting 3 weeks (and hopefully postseason)!!!

You are right, my wildest dreams in May were filled with hot sex with many gorgeous women, but it’s good to see the Twins on the verge of taking over the division lead. With the lead they’ve built over the ChiSox now I think a wild card is the worst they’ll do, barring a complete and horrible collapse.

What's our official stance on the Sox vs. Tiggers series starting today? I think keeping Chicago futher back is most important, so I'd like to see the Sox mirror the Twins production. A Twins win & matching BitchSox win accomplishes both objectives of A) gaining on the Tiggers and B) not allowing Chicago to get any closer.

In best case scenario, I would clearly like to see the Twins win all the remaining games and also see a meteor hit USCell at 7:15 tonight..

Blylevin made a greta point his weekend. In 1987, the Twins only had two solid starters; himself and Frankie "Sweet Music" Viola. The rest of the rotation was done by commitee and bullpen. Very similar situation now...

UNLTrpt
09-18-2006, 03:44 PM
Matthew I was asking myself the same thing last night. What do we want to happen in the Detroit/CWS series.

Obviously the best scenario would be CWS sweeping and us sweeping. That would put us up top the central by 2 games over the Tiggers and keep our 4 game lead on the bitchsox. A tiggers sweep and a sweep by us would keep detroits two game lead over us but essentially eliminate the CWS from the central division and the wild card. We still hold the upper hand on the bitchsox right now. We have that 3 game series with them at home to end the season. That has to be to our advantage. As long as we keep that 4 game lead...no matter what they do, as long as we match it...we can eliminate them before they come to town. So...if it were me...I'd say we match every thing the bitch sox do this weekend to keep that healthy 4 game lead on them and hope that we both sweep.

EatSleepJeep
09-18-2006, 04:19 PM
True. Eliminating Chicago from the equation is job 1. I do not want the Sox coming to town with a chance for any postseason play. They are the only true contender on the horizon. I don't think it's unreasonable to take 2 of 3 from Boston(.540), 2 of 3 from the O's(.430) and 3 of 4 from KC(.387). A sweep of the O's or Royals is not far-fetched. That's +7. For Chicago to overtake, they'd have to sweep Detroit (3), Seattle(4), and Cleveland(3). They would still be -1 on the Twins and have to sweep at the Dome to beat the Twins(2 of 3 would only force a tie).
3 @ Boston
3 @ Baltimore
4 vs. KC
3 vs. Chicago

Game 1 - Tue., October 3
Game 2 - Wed., October 4
Game 3 - Fri., October 6

Game 5 - Sun., October 8

Game 4 and game 5 wouldn't be guranteed. If the twins have the better record...then they would be at home for game 5...if they have the worse record, they they would be at home game 4. and all that is counting on is if the series isn't over by then.

Can anyone tell me exactly what Blyleven said that made Fox & the Twins office freak out?

here's the release Matthew:

ST. PETERSBURG -- Bert Blyleven's on-air profanity will cost the Twins broadcaster and former pitcher two games.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune first reported the suspension, and team officials confirmed the report to the Associated Press on Monday.

Blyleven's remarks came during a pregame segment prior to Sunday afternoon's game against the Yankees. Blyleven uttered the "f-word" twice by accident when he assumed the segment wasn't being aired live.

The Twins game at Tampa Bay on Monday wasn't televised, so the suspension won't start until Tuesday at the earliest. FCC fines could be forthcoming, and WFTC Ch. 29 could impose further penalites on Blyleven.

"We'll take the next couple of days and look into the situation," Twins president Dave St. Peter told the Star-Tribune. "The only thing now is he is suspended for Tuesday and Wednesday."

This is why the Twins are on the doorstep of one of the single greatest comebacks in MLB history:

AL Central leaders vs. each other (since All-Star break)

Twins:
13-6 overall
7-2 vs. CWS
6-4 vs. Detroit

CWS:
9-12 overall
7-5 vs. Detroit
2-7 vs. Twins

Detroit:
9-13 overall
4-6 vs. Twins
5-7 vs. CWS

Garza with another good start, Boof going today, and Yo-yo to complete the SEASON sweep of the Bo Sox...and it sucks having to root for Chi Sux right now, but it would be nice it they beat the Tiggers again today, and then IF we do complete the SEASON Sweep of the Sox, we would have a full game lead :multi

"we don't need relief pitchers. we don't need a tough guy like aaron rowand, we need homers."

Yeah, I'd love some more starting pitching on the Yanks. Tell that to the Red Sox, they'd love some starting pitching. I don't think you come off ignorant, there's just a lot of anger in that statement....

d+ter
09-22-2006, 05:10 PM
there's obviously nothing wrong with starting pitching, but -- and this seems especially appropriate in a Twins thread -- what happens when your starters fail you? we didn't have to find out last year, because the white sox starters won them a world series. but we found out this year as the white sox starters failed them to the point that they're at now, and the twins bullpen has carried them through some high-profile injuries.

everybody would love starting pitching, but -- my point was -- you can't put all your chickens in one basket. or whatever. the white sox put all their stock in their starters. and they put all their stock in the long ball. the white sox won the world series last year, in relatively dominant fashion, but it seems to me that the way the team is run, they aren't exactly stocking up for a dynasty. more likely that everything just came together last year.

There is that story.

damn. Silva is up, then he's down. Up, then he's down.

And actually Matthew we "technically" are a division leader. We are leading the WC division and I was right it did go down. I saw it at 5 and thought it was supposed to go down to 4 but it was 6 to 5. Now that the bitch sox lost again it's down to 4. If we could only help them out...2 straight wins by us and 2 straight losses by the bitch sox and we've clinched a playoff spot.

It was absolutely unreal at the Metrodome today. One of the greatest sports moments I've ever witnessed. About 35,000 strong stayed around to watch the Tigers choke on the Jumbotron. Simply amazing.

My roommate made the call about a month and half ago when we were at a game. He pointed at the AL Central banner and said "I guarantee there will be a 2006 up there when the season is done."

It came down to the 12th inning of the last game of the season in Detroit, but he was right.

your roomate had a lot less faith in the Tigers than I did. I didn't think it was possible for us to catch them with them playing the Royals 7 times in the last 10 games. Torii is sending the Royals a case of Dom. That's nice of him...the least we could do.

I think the A's match up real well with the Twins rotation-wise. They just don't have Santana however. Twins in 5.

Are you feeling ok? you look a little pale, maybe you shoudl take it easy the next couple of days. I think you should go home, get some r & r, have some soup and start the "healing process"...

...or, you could just go for lunch, and call in saying you are throwing up everywhere, you think it may be from the spinich you ate at lunch...:cool

No Garza, the added Perkins to post-season roster...interesting, they think they will need a short reliever vs. Garza who could come in and give a few meaningful innings...

Oh well, not too worried, there are enough pitchers to carry the starters if they run into problems...

I am soooooooooo pumped right now, must go turn on TV and make sure we get descent reception here at office...

It rules that my boss is as big a Twins fan as I am...

WIN TWINS!!!!

I dont know if I like that move. Garza had been pitching ok, before the last start against the White Sox. Maybe Perkins will come in and be like K-Rod a few years ago for the Angels. i wouldnt count on it though. I am going to have to sneak out of work for a while and catch as much of the game as I can.

good question. neshek's got that grade BAA against righties.

EatSleepJeep
10-03-2006, 04:12 PM
I feel neshek could have handled Thomas. Even if he did make contact, Neshek's delivery would have brought the ball across the plate and away from Thomas' inside power. Crain just doesn't have the credentials to handle that 9th inning.

EddieW33
10-03-2006, 06:50 PM
Neshek would have only pitched to Thomas, then they would have had to bringin Reyes...either way, it didn't happenthat way.

A team that has been playing such fundementally sound baseball made a few key mistakes in the field, on the base paths & at the plate. Let's move on, and win tomorrow. Radke has had a good history at Oakland, so we need to take one at that POS of a stadium (I thought the dome was bad) in Oak-town and come home and finish the job.

Tough game when you have 2 wonderful pitchers out there...

WIN TWINS!!!
