I was watching Fox News last night after all the speeches and they went down to a correspondent on the floor saying he was witness to a security breach on the floor of the convention. So, I'm thinking that someone got a weapon in somehow or that some was injured in some way. But then the correspondent began relaying his eyewitness account of the security breach. He said a convention goer was screaming up at Cheney's box seat asking how much money he is making off of the war in Iraq.
I thought it was funny the way they are viewing protesters as security breaches this week.

i haven't seen much of that happening in the last two years...before that, yes, beause for a while, the UN had to exist, as did NATO, to protect and hopefully STOP a WW3. I don't see a point for it now. Ethiopia is the leader of the Human Rights Council...pointless.
Also, if you search for some of the comments from Woodrow Wilson's Special Adivsor to the President (i think that was his post)..from 1918...the UN would scare you. When Wilson promoted the League of Nations, it was a total puppet job to create world government.

So at this point, having a UN is pointless?
It's not pointless to the rest of the world ... some people think, however, that it is useless for the US to be a member of the united nations. I don't have enough information on this subject so I prefer not to give my personal opinion. If you put a gun to my head and told me to give an answer I'd tell you that of all the nations who need the UN, the US needs it the least but is ironically the country which has the greatest effect on its policies.
eric_dmbfan03
09-02-2004, 01:46 AM
Yeah, I feel the same way as you. So as an average American, I see America as a major supporter of the UN. While we may or may not need it, it's clear we support it. So if we support it, we should follow it. That's what I gather from this whole thing anyway.

As far as tonight went, the theme was continuing to show how the President went after the terrorists following 9/11. No mention of the economy or health care or anything in the prime time coverage at least. But I'm fairly certain everything's supposed to be addressed tomorrow.
mdude85
09-02-2004, 01:51 AM
As for the bash Kerry comments, the most likely reason that the republicans are bashing Kerry and not talking about Bush is because everyone already knows what Bush has done in the past few years. After all, he is president -- all of his actions are closely followed by the media and political analysts with big mouths. Bush will likely reveal his plans for the next few years when it is time for him to speak.

Well Kerry has had aple time to at least lay out some of his plans and he hasn't done anything. He's still worried about Vietnam 35 years ago. By the way did anyone see Zell Miller last night??? His speech was amazing, I laughed so hard when he was bashing Kerry. Someone finally brought up Kerry's last 20 years in the Senate and it is definitely going to carry some weight w/ voters. It will be very interesting to see what W. has to say tonight.

How was it over the top?? He stated facts in that speech and you can't argue any of those points. Bottom line is Kerry needs to start putting out some ideas on the economy, the war, foreign policy, and domestic policy which he has done none of so far. Miller was right when he said the Dems are way to the left, and they just need to sit back and see how out of touch they are with the rest of the nation.

And by using this logic, since the approval rating of the President is below 50%... would it be safe to assume that this is a really bad tactic considering less then 50% of tha nation approves of what the President has done in his first term?

Miller was right when he said the Dems are way to the left, and they just need to sit back and see how out of touch they are with the rest of the nation.
Wouldn't the President be leading in the polls by a much higher percentage if the Dems were, as you say, so out of touch with the rest of the nation?

Well if they would just stop trying to make everyone look so bad on the other side of the aisle and just go back to the partisan politics that we had after 9/11 then they would be doing better than they are. And I might add that these are polls that magnify a small percent of the nation. But when people walk in to the polls on election day and finally weigh in on who they think is more worthy of 4 years in the WH this election will be a landslide for W.

You seem to have a problem with the democrats bashing the policies of Bush and not focusing on their plans for the future, yet you have no problem with Zell Miller's speech?
stimmerman

That may be so. But how many people who aren't interested in voting would really participate in one of these polls?

I don't have a problem w/ anyone bashing W.'s policies, but I do think it is a little sad that they spend so much time doing it. Kerry and most of the dems. in general has just beat it over and over to death. Why doesn't he try to put some of his own ideas out so we can see how he feels about certain ideas. And Miller's speech was from a man who was disinfranchised with the Dems. ideas and thoughts.

I was reading an article the other day that stated that voters ask themselves two questions when deciding who to vote for in an election with an incumbent:
1)Does this incumbent deserve my vote?
2)Can the challenger do better?
In that order.
I think the Kerry campaign is operating with these questions in mind. Therefore, he is going to tell you first why the President doesn't deserve your vote, hence all the bashing, and then he'll tell you that (not why) he'll do better.

You know I'm just sitting here at work and wondering why is it that the Heartland of America is overwhelmingly Conservative Republicans and each coast is pre-dominantly Liberal Dems?? Is that just the way it is or are there certain reasons for this. Just tossing ideas in my mind while I'm raking in the dough and surfing the internet. I just love my job.

But doesn't every candidate facing an encumbent have this luxury? Frankly, I'm surprised that Kerry isn't destroying Bush in the polls. In all honesty, I think he should be. I don't think it says a lot about Bush, but more so it speaks volumes about Kerry. In this election, I just get the feeling that Donald Duck could run against Bush and have just as much backing as Kerry does. The fact that Kerry isn't running away with this thing, when most of the population is against this war, is a little unsettling.
