Perhaps I'd approach the Democrats with slightly more enthusiasm if it weren't for the fact that the DNC has done everything within their power to keep others off the ballot <cough> Nader <cough>. It's despicable and impedes the political freedoms of voters. There is no constitutional amendment protecting the sole existence of two parties in this country, no matter what threat they pose to your chances at winning an election. I might not agree with Nader on many big issues, but he certainly has the right to get on the ballot without facing needless obstruction by the Democrats. Perhaps Terry McAuliffe's real issue is that Nader's running mate isn't white. Oh, but the Democrats can't be racist can they?

Though I'm voting Democrat, I don't consider myself a Democrat.

While I do agree there should be three parties, the Republicans are doing everything in their power to get Nadar on the ballot including having signing drives to get Republicans to sign for him to be on the ballot. They realize how much him being on the ballot helps them get this evil regime into power.

The first Presidential election for me was in 1992. As many may have forgotten, Ross Perot received nearly 20% of the vote in that year. I'm pretty sure that the constitution doesn't exclude those without affiliation to the Democrat or Republican parties from running for president. Instead of celebrating these Americans, some in our country castigate them out of spite. While I hardly believe Republican support for Nader signing drives is out of their support for Nader's right to run, the Democrats weren't exactly fighting the candidacy of Perot in 1992.

Of course the constitution doesn't disallow independent presidential candidates, but my point is that the two major parties approach the third parties as if they have no right to exist. There is a serious political freedom at risk if we allow either the Republicans or the Democrats to trample over those parties that might actually think outside of the box occasionally. Neither heads of the Republican or Democrat party are what I would call free-thinking intellectuals; but who needs ethics philosophy when you have money on your side? But I'd really like to hear someone's defense of the two party system. I believe the party efficiency in this country is 1.90, which means that there are, essentially, 2 parties in the US that have any sway.
