So what if it was a priest?
Why are ministers better?
They're both men of God.

...right.

ok check for yourself.

he spoke at the podium and everything.

and for everyone asking what's the problem.

there is more than one religeon in this country and there are people in this country who do not believe in a god. if this republican party wanted to 'swing' anybody they wont do it that way.

and again this just reinforces my belief that the republican party is nothing more than the christians trying to take over this country. i guess we are just going to have group prayer before presidential speeches !?!? this scares me more than i can probably explain.

none of the above should be speaking at a convention or any other government event period. what do you think there shouldn't be separation of church and state?!?!

The convention wasn't a government event. Seperation of church and state does not apply.

Semantics. What is the point of the convention, in the end? To sway voters towards Bush. What is Bush running for? President.

Actually, I concede your point. Bush, as president, does not work for the government but for his wallet and the oil companies. I was wrong. Seperation of church and state, even in spirit, does not apply.

yes it does.

a priest minister or cleric or whoever cannot publicly support a canidate.
i think this would justify as public support.

Really now?

Tell me how this:

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

meshes with your argument for seperation of church and state.

Keep in mind that particular phrase comes from this quote:

"Believing…that religion is a matter which lies solely between
man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State."- Thomas Jefferson

And please explain how it is that a minister or cleric loses his right to freedom of political speech.

I don't think there's a separation problem... They just better hope they don't alienate any non-religious or alternate-religion people.

What about the good Reverend Jesse Jackson? Reverend Al Sharpton? What about Kerry speaking at a church service?

A church cannot endorse a candidate without losing its tax exempt status, but that's a completely different issue.
