Or did the conventions start later than they did back in 2000? For some unknown reason, I thought the conventions in 2000 started in July and ended sometime around the middle of August.

The Conventions occurred at about the same time they did in '96 when Clinton was running for a second term and Dole was the Republican nominee (more analogous to the election this year than the one in 2000).
