The presidential "debates" are a joke anyway. There is little left to chance or for viewers to gain from them because they staged by the campaigns. On the surface, this might seem bad for Bush, but he has nothing to gain from the debates, so it's not necessarily a strategically bad move. Clinton chose to do the same thing in 1996 with similar strategy in mind.

Let's not forget that this was long before the grade inflation we have now where 90% of the students wind up getting A's and B's. Back then a C was, as it's supposed to be, an average grade (and probably the equivalent of a B+/A- at a lesser school).

Say what you'd like about his academic career, as a former Navy Air Traffic Controller, I can say without any hesitation that stupid people, no matter what kind of contacts they have, don't fly jets (transports maybe, but certainly not jets!!). The F-102 was the world's first all-weather interceptor, and flying it was in many ways much more difficult than today's advanced fighters. I wish someone would research what the mortality rate was during the period that Bush was training and compare it to that of the SWIFT boat drivers during Kerry's 4+ months at the helm.
