Did anybody here see that movie "Vantage Point" that Foxy was in a couple years back. Dude, it couldn't have been any more obvious that
Fox was one of the bad guys than if they printed it on the friggin poster :lol
I guessed it, pretty much, immediately. Gee, which supposedly main character have we not seen AT ALL ever since he ran off on his own right after the bombing? (and made sure he wasn't followed by any other agents) I guess he just wanted to up his cred with a feature during one of this Lost hiatuses, because this thing sucked ass.
But also, for anyone that saw it in the theater -- were there any subtitles on the screen when all the local Spain characters were talking to each other? I mean I DL'd a DVD rip of this last night out of curiosity, and the time stamps written on the screen and stuff were there, but there were no subtitles at all, I was starting to get the feeling I as a viewer was supposed to know what they were saying, it was several sentences of dialog at some points.

I thought this was pretty funny.

Who wins in a fight between Snookie and Sookie?
DamonLindelof
Touche. RT @ditzkoff I say you build it up slowly for 6 seasons, then arbitrarily kill one. less than a minute ago via web
And as for Vantage Point, I can't remember about the subtitles, and yes, just a horrible twist, totally predictable.

oh god yes. the 4th season was pretty confusing and a little too cluttered but season 5 so far is on par with the 1st and 2nd season. my next epidsode is 'the life and death of jeremy bentham'. im really excited

Am I the only one who was shocked to realize that ONLY 5 weeks have passed since the finale? I don't know why, but for me it feels like that thing was like 3 friggin months ago, I seriously can't believe it's been just over a month.
and I haven't watched the finale again just on its own, my current plan is to wait a bit longer, than I'm going to try and watch the entire 6th season straight thru in as short a time as possible, see if it flows better than it did during broadcasting. Of course, I wish I had an HDTV so I could just do so with the blu-ray in August. sigh

I was very impressed with Matthew Fox this year. You could tell he worked very hard to detail the completion of Jack's story arc. He was really dynamic, showing us nuances in the character rather than just hitting the same note or two throughout the season. A well-earned nomination. Doubt he'll win against that competition, but still an excellent performance overall.

07-08-2010, 09:45 AM
Fox definitely was top-notch this season, but my problem is, for most of the time he was basically playing second fiddle to Terry O'Quinn. The focus was on Locke/Flocke. I still hope O'Quinn wins supporting, but he could have also had a shot at best actor.

07-08-2010, 03:56 PM
Well yea as many questionable things as there may be from the list of noms, at least they got Terry for supporting right. I think I'd have to fire bomb Emmy HQ if they'd left that off.
The thing that kinda cracks me up though, the semantics on how the categories are figured out, if you looked over season 6 as a whole, I really wonder if the screen time taken up by Jack would've been substantially more by Locke to make their Lead/Supporting noms make sense.

You mentioned in the movie thread though that the nominees are on an individual episode basis. So if Fox was nominated for The End, then it makes sense to think of him as a lead actor. I agree with you on the whole it was O'Quinn's season.

I know this isn't a crazy-new thought or anything, but i'm re-watching the whole series on hulu the last few weeks, and I'm in season 2. I knew I hated Ana Lucia the first time through, but my god- rewatching a couple of these now (Other 48 days, Collision) and I just can't believe what an absolute grinding, abrasive, terrible, waaaay over the top, awful character/actress she was. Just absolutely can't stand scenes with her in them. Wish Goodwin would have killed her.
Anyways, back to it. Just had to vent to people who might care- i don't have anyone else :)

2. the cursed numbers. wtf? they were the basis of an entire season and they never mention them again?
3. polar bears? ... polar bears?
well heres the answer to my first question in case anyone else wants to know
1st you have to understand that LOST is the story of Jack's life and the connections he's made in his journey. The alt reality is not another dimension or reality at all. The "alt reality" was unrealized death. All the back stories on other character's were to show us the events that brought all of them to Jack. Michael died on the island and his spirit was trapped there (in the real world) because he killed Ana Lucia and Libby. That's why we didn't see him in the alt reality. Walt had left the island as a young boy and most likely had made much stronger connections with other people other than Jack. That's why we didn't see him in the alt reality. All the people in the alt reality were always dead... they just didn't know it. That's what Desmond was doing, helping them to let go of their "physical presence" mindset and see that they were dead. Once they did that, they could all pass on to a higher place. And they all needed to pass on together.
and on the subject of the polar bears i read an interview where the producers said the cages that sawyer and kate were kept in were obviously bear cages, and we as an audience were supposed to draw the conclusion that the mysterious polar bears were once held in captivity by the Dharma initiative to conduct experiments. that one went over my head though haha. but i still gotta ask wouldnt a bear thats entire species lives in a very cold climate die after a few weeks in a tropical island? the numbers thing though no one seems to have any idea about.

3. polar bears? ... polar bears?
1. I don't know
2. 4 8 15 16 23 42 were the final six candidates - Jacob wrote these numbers in the cave.
4 Locke / 8 Hurley / 15 Sawyer / 16 Sayid / 23 Shephard / 42 Kwon (don't know which) Keep in mind that Kate's number was crossed out because she became Aaron's mother.
The numbers were all over the place. Add them up and they total 108. 108 minutes and the button has to be pushed.
This website has a lot more: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/The_Numbers
3. The polar bears were like a WTF factor. When we first see the polar bear, everyone is like "wtf is a polar bear doing in this jungle, on this island." Later it's revealed that the Dharma Initiative was doing experiments. One of their experiments was on polar bears. And that's pretty much it (as far as I can tell). A lot of good/bad/mysterious/magical things occurred on the island.

So my new EW came today, the main story is a Comic-Con preview (Green Lantern on the cover) but up front there's the first preview image from the extra material that will be on the season 6 DVD, the 12 minutes of original content showing what Hurley & Ben's reign was like. I was just trying to find a link on the website but couldn't. It's just of Ben picking up some stuff from a Dharma station.
The thing that kinda gets me though, and I'm sure I'll probably sound selfish, the way they put it seems to further confirm a worry I had, that this 12 minutes of these two is the ONLY "newly created footage" that was made to address additional answers they didn't get to in the show. Whereas, when that point was first made, I'd gotten the impression there would be clips addressing other things as well, nothing to do with the future of the island (like say, possibly my biggest dropped ball of plot, Jacob's cabin), but I suppose not, and that kinda bums me out a little.
But, maybe we'll still get insight into that from any D&C interviews yet given.

my only problem with interviews is that nothing can compare to actual footage. they can say whatever they want, but without any actual footage, it's all just conjecture at that point.

So I just posted up about this over in the Mad Men thread, cast member Crista Flanagan http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1556400/ has done a spread in the newest issue of Playboy. From what I've watched of the show I would've thought she was a bit older, turns out she's one month younger than I am (34) and looks pretty damn good here.
But the point of why I'm bringing this up here, there's one particular photo I noticed, it kinda freaked me out actually. And I even took a quick snap of it that I'm uploading here for the rest of you to see, I took a closeup of her face.
Look at all familiar to anyone we know... ? :p

okay I just put this together real quick, this is certainly not the best photo of Evie by which to judge this, but it's generally good enough. Putting them right next to each other.
True, Crista's face is a tiny bit "fuller", but the eyes and general smile is there.

okay I'm genuinely STUNNED here. :lol Now I'll admit, very often it's the case when I pick up on a similarity between two people, others don't agree with me, mostly because a lot of times it's very subtle things that I noticed, but here in this case, I really felt pretty confident that it was a fairly easy one to see.

He's the most whiny, selfish, annoying little twit in the entire show. Aside from my vomiting whenever Claire says "ba-by," I also have a small twitch whenever Charlie shows up. He's no hero.
All in my humble opinion, of course.
RIP Libby and Ana Lucia, just one more disc left in season two... Gosh, did Ben EVER say anything truthful? He spat lies upon lies upon lies!
Also, what did he mean when he told Locke that "the man in charge" is not a forgiving man, that he would punish Ben because Ben failed his mission. Did we ever really establish that Jacob was "the man in charge" and was, in fact, giving orders to Ben?

i think he was just saying that to get locke to believe that there was someone else running the show, because as we know now, ben never really was taking orders from anyone. never met jacob, or saw MIB int he cabin until the night he brought locke.
also, i agree about charlie. i didn't notice it until i started my rewatch. he was instantly obsessed with claire in an annoying way, acting like he was automatically the man who was her protector. and he was incredibly stupid at times.

ehh but he spent 3 years of his life wanting nothing more than to find sun. the rest of his life would have been unbearable if he had just left her there to die. though, he did have a daughter to think about, so i get where you're coming from, but it was a split second decision and i dont think any of us really know what we would do in that situation. i also find it kind of racist that the Iraqi on the show ended up suicide bombing himself :lol jk though i loved sayid and he went out like a fucking champ
For me, that seen saved his character in Season 6. I mean, i've always loved Sayid, how he always thought of himself as a bad man for killing and tortured a lot of men, but he live torned up with the man he had become. I believe that sometimes he was the true strenght, along with Fox, for all the Losties (well, except for Sawyer :P).
But is season 6... well, a bit annoying to me (not to say a lot)!! And that final scene of him (before the bomb detonation and his reaction when he understood what he had to do in order to save everyone), really showed us the real Sayid, the one that we were used to.
really? i thought fox was much better in season 3 and 5 than he was in 6. 6 was just all about the many shades of john locke. one of my favorite lines of dialogue by fox was in season 3 when he was locked in the cage being gawked at by the passers by:
"if you have something to watch, then GO WATCH IT!!!"
im watching the finale tonight. kind of sad.
I've always loved Jack's character (even with all the Jack hate that was around from season 2 to mid 5), i've always thought that his character was kind of misunderstood. Yes he was stubborn and sometimes didn't listen to what everyone else was sayin', but he was chosen as a leader almost implicitly and he had to act upon it. He didn't chose to be a leader, because he didn't know how to lead ppl, so he had to learn. The hard and stubborn and sometimes unsuccesul way.
But in Season 6, Matthew Fox acted perfectly the transformation of this man of science into the man of faith. I mean, the End was just... perfect! Yes, there are still questions to be answered (the most intriguing to me is indeed David himself), but i wasn't expecting to get them all answered, i knew there would be loose ends, it's LOST, they don't give us everything and i wouldn't want them to.
My fav scene of Matthew Fox are basically two scenes and always involves Terry O'Quinn in it:
1. In the scene in the hatch where Locke wanted Jack to push the button. The dialogue "Why do you find it so hard to believe?" / "Why do you find so easy?" / "It's never been easy"
2. The scene man of sciene / man of faith.
I've always loved their interactions!
Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emmerson convinced me right at the beginning and Matthew Fox had me all along, but convinced me in Season 6.
Scatterbrain_
07-26-2010, 06:03 PM
For me, that seen...
It's scene, obviously :rolleyes
I forgot another one of my ultimate fav scenes of Matthew Fox: The final scene in The End. Live together, die alone, right? Wrong! The tenderness in that scene blew me away, and yes, i cried :)
Has anyone seen the mobisode of Vincent going to meet Jack right before he woke up and openned his eye in the bamboo forrest? Well, it has come full circle :)

Biiiiiiiiiig stuff in the new EW issue (James Bond on the cover). D&C give a fresh interview, and they look at the special features on season 6. I'd say the biggest thing I'm disappointed by is no commentary track on the finale. Which episodes do have them are LA X, Dr. Linus, Ab Aeterno, and Across The Sea.
I'm very pleased to see ATS has one, but I was just really hoping for the finale as well.

almost done with my rewatch, just watched the candidate. one little thing i noticed, since candidates can't kill themselves, if they had left the bomb within a small vicinity of sawyer, theoretically the bomb wouldn't have gone off. but since sayid ran off with it, sawyer was safe so it blew.
this was probably talked about before but i never thought of it like that. also, i don't know what i'm going to do when i finish my rewatch this weekend. i feel like i just started it, and there's so much more.

They should've put it on Daily Motion, it'd have a better chance at staying there longer. I missed it as well.
I guess I am a little bit irked that I read the polar bears will be further addressed, that's actually one question I feel pretty well answered. The DI brought them there as part of their zoological experiments, and obviously they were used to turn the wheel at least once. I think that's perfectly satisfactory.

same, never understood why people wanted more explanation on that. the only two things that genuinely irked me were the cabin and the outriggers, though the cabin was what by far what i cared about more.
the outrigger thing would have been cool to konw, but it reality didn't affect the story that much, while it was clear the cabin had some significance.

No, it is a page made to look old...like the journal of a captain...and it has entries on different days. one of the entries talks about people that come out of nowhere and the shooting, etc. the final entry discusses seeing two men on the shoreline and a storm approaching.

So, you're saying it answers the question that the people on the other outrigger were from the Black Rock?
hmm.. I'd have to go back and watch to make sure, but I'd thought I remembered something else in that particular flash that suggested they were in the future somewhere. In fact yea, because at the start of that flash is them finding the outrigger on the beach and they decide to take it, and it's got the Ajira water bottle in it, so it had to be after 316 crashed.

So I got to thinking about the show just now on the drive home from running an errand ("You Found Me" from the Fray came on, and as I've said previously, the two are now forever linked in my brain), and I was wondering, with all the criticism that season 6 has taken even now in retrospect a couple months later (see my poll of favorite season as proof), well remember back to early in the season when those ratings were coming out that I guess were mainly based on the scripts, of those who'd read them, and like the worst one was only like 8/10.
Do you think many of those were just plants?
EDIT: almost forgot, if there's an incredibly gracious fan out there who could somehow share even just the pure audio portion of the commentary episodes in the s6 DVD set, I'd be beyond grateful. That's what's killing me the most, not having the means to get the proper DVDs right now, I can deal with waiting on the behindthescenes stuff, but I absolutely love the commentary tracks, especially with Damon & Carlton. I wanna listen to them so friggin bad. thank you!!

i would have no problem with season 6 winning. oftentimes shows/actors win for the last season of a show because of the show's/actor's body of work for that time period. for instance, if lost won, it probably wouldn't be because the 6th season was so great but because the show as a whole accomplished so much.

Okay by their very nature I've always said that all awards shows are kinda ridiculous, and I had no interest in watching the Emmys, the only thing I had ANY even kind of vague interest in was O'Quinn winning, and I literally was flicking thru the channels just in time to see him NOT win.
unfathomable. What he did in this season is something that's rarely been done in network TV over the last decade.

Former Lost star Josh Holloway has admitted that he would love to star in NBC's forthcoming remake of The Rockford Files.
It was previously reported that the actor was being considered for the role of private eye Jim Rockford.
Holloway told Entertainment Weekly that he had been interested in the show since the final season of Lost, in which his character Sawyer and Miles Straume (Ken Leung) appeared as cops in the 'flash-sideways' universe.
"I was like, no way, don’t even go there… because I love The Rockford Files," he explained. " I thought Ken would be great for [Rockford's sidekick]. I would have loved that show."
Dermot Mulroney was cast as Rockford in a first attempt at a reboot, but was later dropped from the project. Holloway revealed that he had not originally considered the part, as he had been keen to concentrate on a film career.
"I wanted to give movies a shot, so I never even pursued it,” he said.
David Shore, executive producer on the new pilot, previously confirmed that the actor was a "viable choice" for the Rockford role. [B]Source: http://www.digitalspy.com/ustv/s10/lost/news/a267856/lost-star-would-love-rockford-files.html
I kinda wonder if Holloway did get the role, if they'd want him to cut his hair at all. I mean looking at it from the producers' point of view, I think I might want him to, just because he's become so iconic as Sawyer with THAT LOOK, ya know? And particularly if he stays with his natural southern accent, will it be too much like the same character for what they'd want in a new show.
(and even if he did win the part, I think Ken Leung as his sidekick would be a bit too much to hope for :p

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/09/locke_ben_jj_abrams_lost.html?mid=twitter_vulture
Forget Rizzoli & Isles: Are you ready for Linus & Locke? In news that could cause the Lost fan base to have a synchronized aneurysm, Vulture hears that last week, J.J. Abrams and frequent collaborators Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Alias, Mission: Impossible 4) began pitching a comedic drama to the networks that would have Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn — a.k.a. Benjamin Linus and John Locke/Smokey — playing former black-ops agents.
The idea of Emerson and O'Quinn reuniting isn't completely new: In February, the duo told TV Guide (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/02/ben_and_locke_will_live_on_may.html) that they were looking to put together a post-Lost TV project for themselves; the rumors were revived again last month when Emerson repeated his hopes (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/08/ben_and_locke_will_live_on_may_1.html) for a new show while doing publicity for the Lost full-series DVD collection. Still, all the talk seemed to be in the realm of "maybe one day." Turns out plans for a show are very real and very active — and the involvement of Abrams and other Bad Robot types means there's a really good chance the project will soon find a home.
As always with all things Abrams, details are sketchy, but insiders said the potential show — which we've heard carries the working title Odd Jobs — would have a dose of humor. It's not clear whether Appelbaum and Nemec will include any elements of an idea floated by O'Quinn last winter that had the two former Lost-mates serving as suburban hit men.
It's been a busy month for Bad Robot: Abrams and producing partner Bryan Burk last week set up Person of Interest at CBS and an Alcatraz-themed drama at Fox. Abrams's Undercovers, meanwhile, bows Wednesday on NBC, while the Abrams-directed feature Super 8 is moving forward, with Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/09/super_8_kyle_chandler_cast.html) the first two actors cast in the project. Warner Bros., the studio where Bad Robot is based, had no comment.

I've been following The Event so far as well. The ads leading up didn't do much for me, but I saw a short interview with the younger male actor (the cruise boat/airplane dude) where he explained a couple of interesting behind the scenes bits.
1) The writer (or team?) has apparently been drafting the story for nearly 4 years, so there is meaning and purpose behind it all. Something that would have dramatically helped LOST, especially in providing answers during the closing two seasons.
2) The actors receive character dossiers that give them a context of what their character knows/doesn't know up to that point. This supposedly helps them give genuine performances regarding who is involved or who has been a victim of what the supposed Event is.
I agree, it hasn't been as well acted but my wife and I are going to give it a try for now. I'm entirely sure I'm ready to move on from LOST!

on the red carpet of the Scream Awards, Carlton & Damon floated the possibility that they will at some point wind up recording a commentary for the finale, but that will be accessible if you already have a Blu-ray player and the boxed set (point being they don't want fans to have to buy another set just for that). So I guess that's where the BR live thing comes in... ? To be able to downloaded updated content? Still not having a player yet I'm not too familiar with how it works.

I just finished a rewatch a couple weeks ago, season 6 was definitely the most up and down of any season, but in my eyes, those last 4 episodes (not counting the Jacob/MIB one) were just absolutely perfect. I loved how looking back on everything in the alt. timeline as purgatory or w/e gave it more meaning, to me at least. I'm glad I loved it, cuz they really did make it very divisive as to who would like it and who wouldn't.

There was an article on EW the other day examining whether fans' attitudes toward the finale had changed after some time, which got me thinking about it.
On the one hand, yes, after some time I can appreciate what the writers were trying to do and how they wanted to wrap it up. On the other, part of me knows I only feel that way because my anger at not getting answers to a lot of the mythological stuff has faded. When you go in with expectations of what you think the finale should be and then it winds up completely different, yeah, youre irritated. BUt once you know you're not getting answers and you see the show for what it was, it makes the finale a little different.
I still dont like the FS and wish they had kept the focus on the island and not on faith, but the finale is a little better upon reflection.

Back in season 4 when Ben uses his passport after he gets time booted to Tunisia and the name on it is Dean Moriarty, everyone talked about how it was a cool Sherlock Holmes reference, he being Holmes' arch-enemy. But duh, in the Holmes canon the name was James Moriarty, not Dean. In fact Dean Moriarty is a character from the novel "On The Road".

So my plan this fall was at some point to start watching season 6 over again, but in a condensed amount of time to see if it plays better one right after another. I've been doing that, and I just finished Ab Aeterno. Granted this is a small thing, but it occurred to me, the season 5 opener where we first meet Jacob and MIB, they're talking as the Black Rock is on its way to the island, so everything in the Richard episode takes place after that moment. It's just that, in that conversation, MIB asks him "you have any idea how badly I wanna kill you?" to which Jacob says yes, it seems rather obvious Jacob knows exactly what he's talking about. And yet, in the end scene of Ab Aeterno when they're talking, he says "you sent someone to kill me", MIB says "you expecting an apology?" and Jacob says no, I just want to know why you did it. and MIB says because I want to leave, etc etc..
The timing of those two moments seems backwards, that's all.

Btw so a couple days ago I finished my rewatch of season 6 that I was doing all in a span of maybe 2 weeks (though the bulk of it was done in really just a couple of days, especially toward the end) and I'm happy to say that while watching it all in more of a straight run like that does allow it to play better than it did in the original schedule, but even with that, there was still that middle section where it felt like noticeable lag, once Flocke had his little band and they were doing a lot of sitting around (even though he assured Sawyer there was a difference between "doing nothing and waiting" :p)

The part of season 6 that bugged me when I rewatched it was the beginning in the temple. It just seemed so unnecessary. Literally nothing important happened while they were in the temple. It wasn't until after Jack left that the story for the season got moving. The season was definitely played better when watched in a short time span for me too.
I really wish I could erase the finale from my brain and watch it again fresh, only because I can't even remember what I thought of it as it was happening. All the "awakenings" and the big reveal at the end, I think those were mindblowing to me, only I can't remember :lol

Started re-watching the series as soon as the finale aired, now I'm almost halfway through with Season 4.
While I do love all the time-travel stuff and the Desmon / Daniel stuff... I think I liked the show a lot more when it was just Losties vs. Others. Everything after Season 3 just got super complicated. Anyone else with me?

From doing my season 6 review a couple weeks ago I came away with 2 other sort of random thoughts.
First, I think it's interesting and plenty ironic that, early in the life of the series, we seem to be made to believe that those who were brought in to be "Others" were all very pure, truly 'good' people. I mean Mikhael in season 3 even tells the small group that has him captured that you're not on the list because you're "flawed", you're not a good person, and the however many ways you want to interpret that. And these collectively are the righteous people that are meant to protect the sanctity of the island, as Ben always would expound early in the series. And yet, we learn in the end, all along Jacob had these certain few Losties on his list of replacement candidates for his job, specifically because they were like him, they were fallible, they were flawed and broken.
And on a totally different note, and I admit this is a bit of a tongue in cheek, cynical view of things, but the idea at the very end is that these certain pairings of Jack & Kate, of Sawyer & Juliet were the true soulmates of each other and thus were brought together in the afterlife so that they could "move on" together, finally. And yet, you think about it, theoretically Kate and Sawyer could've had VERY long lives to live back in the real world once they escaped the island for the last time in the finale, hell they could've each lived another 50+ years, and it's not crazy to think in all that time they each could have met someone else and had a very long and fulfilling marriage with that person, far far longer than they knew Jack or Juliet, respectively. And yet when they finally die, it's not that other spouse they 'move on' with. If I was Kate's potential post-island husband I'd be pissed she dumped me for another dude when she died :lol

Sheds a TON of light on why Claire was just sitting on the beach in the finale, and why Locke needed Ben.

Well definitely a cool little scene, so thanks, but err.. didn't we already long before have a pretty thorough understanding of why Flocke needed Ben?
It does make me wonder however what was the primary reason for this getting cut, was it merely for time, or did they feel in retrospect it actually spelled some things out too clearly, like it was too on the nose.
(then again, they still left in the one scene with Hurley & Michael explaining the whispers mystery, and that was pretty much as straight forward and black and white reveal as you can get :p)

I should have clarified, I meant that it showed why Flocke needed Ben to kill people instead of someone else. The one thing they made very clear was that Flocke couldn't kill anyone. I always wondered why Claire just disappeared. They should have left this scene in.
And the whisper reveal....stupid :lol

Like a couple people have already said, I just started watching the series over again from the beginning with my wife and we're a couple shows into Season 2. Funny going back and seeing some of the small little things that you see and how it comes around towards the end. Knowing how it ends takes away some of the 'i gotta figure this secret out!!' factor and let's you just focus on the characters. Looking forward to seeing it all over again.
Now if only Netflix and the studios could release more shows to be streamed, we'd be in business.

It's amazing to watch an entire show, get caught up in some cliffhanger, then immediately click watch next and see the next episode. I did several 3 hour plus session.
