i thought it was a good episode tonight. i really want to know more about Kate's story though. I was a little confused to why noone was looking for Claire (i think that's her name) anymore :confused
i'm interested to find out why the bitchy girl's brother flips out about her talking to Sied (sp?). can't wait to see next week's episode :thumbsup

tonights episode was weak. They need to step it up.
The preview for next week looks awesome. Lots of action, and they finally show that big metal thing that lock found again. Maybe we'll get to see what that thing is.

i couldnt tell from the preview for next week, but it looks like shannon is gonna be eaten by that huge ass monsterish thing, coz she's running then all of a sudden is just lifted up in the air...hmmm, even though she's "useless" she's still hot. and the scene where she takes her bikini top off and sayide comes over to talk to her and she puts the towel around her was so unnecesary, but hey...it worked for me.
as for the episode, imo it was one of the weaker ones, but i dont anything so far can compare to the last episode before the reruns.

I can't help but think of Stephen Kings book "The Tommyknockers" where some people find a spaceship buried in a small Maine town when it comes to that hatch.
It would be a blatant ripoff if it was so I'm thinking it's not, but that would explain the compass readings
Maybe the Island really isn't an Island.....

That's pretty good wouldn't make sense. Why would an angel have a back story about being paralyzed then when the plane crashed, he wasn't paralyzed anymore? Plus, he's too creepy to be angel.
The best two angels ever are Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on "Dogma." (I hate saying "Angel" because it reminds me of the song which is just sooo horrible)

****** SPOILER *******
I was reading the TV guide mini magazene at work and they had a section on Lost. I wasn't going to buy it, so I can't type word for word what it said, but I'll tell you the highlights.
The article was mostly about how the cast has fun together on set. That was kinda boring. They had little write-ups on all the charachters (just what they've done so far) and whats next for each charachter. I'll try to remember each one.
Jack: nothin interesting
Kate: Shes drinking (?) with Sawyer and they discover they have something in common
Clair: She suffers amnesia and doesn't remember anything that happened on the island! Oh yea, and she still hasn't had her kid.
Charlie: It just says that hes going to do something crazy when Clair's safety is threatened.
Sayid: Him and shannon get a little more serious
Thats all I remember for now, if I remember more, I'll post it.
They did say what was coming up for the next episode in the write-up. They said for the February 9th episode, that Ethan comes back to try and re-kidnap clair. They also said that Lock's and Boone's discovery (that door thing they can't get open) is the "most important thing", or something like that, to the rest of the story. The director said someone will die by the end of episode one. They said none of the cast members even know who it is.

Clair: She suffers amnesia and doesn't remember anything that happened on the island! Oh yea, and she still hasn't had her kid.
Poor Charlie. Claire's going to have no idea how close they got.
Oh, and from what I understand, on the contrary to what you read, we are going to find out something very interestinginvolving Jack soon.

It's about time that Jack and interesting are in the same sentence. The only part of his backstory with his Dad was about the missing body. Other than that, I find Jack to be a really boring character compared to the others (Besides Michael and Walt...I really dislike them)

I heard on a radio talk show this morning....
the show is losing money BAD....because they've been filming in Hawaii, which is evidently 2 to 3 times more expensive than filming in LA.
They are spending something around $2.5 mil. per episode.
So.....
They are going to try to find a place in LA to shoot the rest of the season...otherwise it appears that our island captives are going to see a rescue boat very soon.
I hope it hangs in there!

Well, looks like this issue has more to do with "will Hawaii will lose Lost?" rather than "will the viewers lose Lost?" The show will continue, regardless. Still, if I were ABC, I'd be hoping the writers don't let them down, they need the show to stay strong for a couple of seasons.
At any rate, Feb. sweeps looks like it will be a good time for the fans. Four new eps in a row and they all sound very good.

I'm surprised no one has topped this. A new Lost is on.
If you missed the first 5 minutes, it showed sawyer watching his raging father kill him mom and then kill himself. Then he woke up (that was a dream about his father and mother) and chased a boar into the jungle and hears voices.

I had heard that a Jack-Sawyer connection would occur in this episode, but this wasn't exactly the way I thought it would happen. Still, a pretty good episode regardless. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more "connections" like the Sawyer-Jack's Dad conversation as time goes on.
And I heard Robert Patrick will be back again before the end of the season, so Hibbs may be a more important character than we think.

I think you're going to have to wait. This week and next look to be like more background, and then they go on break for 6 weeks. There might be something good next week (probably a cliffhanger type ending) but then we're stuck waiting until mid-April :BANG
You 24 people are spoiled with your "non-stop season" :24
That break between May '04 and Jan '05 must have hurt though ;)

As a viewer of Lost and Alias, I can tell you that since Lost was created by JJ Abrhams things will be kept secret for a while. There are things from season 1 of Alias that have not been explained yet!
batleon
02-22-2005, 01:47 PM
The problem with shows like this is that the "secrets" are almost inevitably a let-down when they are revealed. I watched X-Files for years and, ugh, what a mess that turned out to be (and I didn't even watch the last season and a half). My thoughts on Lost are, "so far, so good" but the last couple of episodes this season need to be solid if this series is going to have a real future.

Walking a tight rope. Give too many answers away and you have no story left to tell. Don't give away enough answers and people leave. However, with this many mysteries, you'd think they'd be able to give us something and still leave plenty of things hanging:
Why did they crash?
Who was Ethan? Was he alone?
What's the deal with the French Lady/transmission/science team?
Why's there a power cord coming out of the ocean?
What are those whispers Sayid and Sawyer heard?
Where'd the 40/50 yr. old dead bodies they found in the caves come from?
Why can Locke walk again? Why couldn't he walk in the first place?
What's in that damn hatch?
What's the deal with Kate: who'd she kill? What's with the toy plane?
What's the deal with Walt and his "powers"?
Is something wierd going on with Claire's baby?
Where's Jack's Dad's body?
What is the monster?
And there's more too, that's just all I can think of right now...

Here you go straight from epguides.com:
09-Feb-2005
After the missing Claire returns with no recollection of what has happened since before the doomed flight of Oceanic 815, Jack and Locke formulate a plan of defense against her kidnapper, the mysterious Ethan (guest-star William Mapother), who threatens to kill off the other survivors one by one as the days go by unless Claire is returned to him. Meanwhile, the disappoint of Charlie feels of Claire not remembering him triggers recollections of a woman who had let down in the past.
The final scene in this episode had Charlie killing Ethan, point blank.
16-Feb-2005
Kate and Sawyer divulge dark secrets to each other while tracking a renegade boar that Sawyer swears is purposely harassing him. Meanwhile, Hurley and Sayid worry that Charlie is losing it after his brush with death and shooting Ethan to death in the chest. Lastly, a shocking and prior connection between Sawyer and Jack is revealed with Sawyer meeting Jack's father in a bar.

i love how they give little clues like that that only certain people would understand :)

I started laughing when I saw Hurley on the TV. Those writers are playing with our heads and loving every second of it. Thanks for the Korean subtitle translation, I was going to investigate the Lost boards about it.
I don't watch Alias, but it sounds to me like JJ changing his mind about whether or not a character is good or evil is acceptable. But when you are talking about the prevailing theme of the show, namely "what the hell is going on here?" then when JJ blatantly states "they're not in purgatory" I tend to believe it. I never bought that Purgatory theory anyway. They are on a real island and they are still alive. The rest is up in the air.
Next week is supposed to be the last episode before a six week break. Ugh. I think Hurley goes searching for the French woman's power supply so he can get his CD player working again :D

What's fascinating to me is that EVERYONE has been at an ULTIMATE low point in their life before arriving on the island...
Locke - had his dream shot down
Jack - ratted-out his dad, then lost him
Sawyer - killed the wrong guy
Jin - was a hitman for his father-in-law
Sun - was ready to run away from her husband
Kate - robbed a bank....mixed up in a bad crowd
Claire - boyfriend left her while pregnant
Boone - screwed his sister
Boone's sister - (her name escapes me) screwed and deceived her brother
Said - betrayed his country
Michael - lost his wife and son
Charlie - junkie, rel. with brother gone bad, no more band
I'm forgetting someone....
I think Walt could be God.....remember the bird? the polar bears?
He beats everyone at backgammon.
It seems like everything he imagines comes true.
But it comes down to the fact that they've all LOST something before coming to the island...
What does that mean?? I don't know! :haha

I hadn't thought about that. But, they definately have all LOST something.
Someone several posts back said that they did not like all the backstorys. I personally like the backstorys. It think it gives you important imformation about who the people were before the they got to the island, which helps you understand their character better.
I think this show could easily go 3 to 4 years without finding out what is going on with the island and still keep me interested. There are so many more things that could happen: building shelter, developing relationships, more disasters, more discoveries, child birth, attempts to escape, etc. Also, I'm assuming we've only seen a small part of the island so far. They could spend weeks or months just traveling around the island.

Can someone tell me the name of the Damien Rice song that Hurley was listening to at the end?

Then here's my question: Why does it seem like everyone on the island has a checkered past? What are the odds of that happening? I'm not saying they are in Puragtory, but it makes too much sense.
Maybe JJ has decided to re-write some things and that's why there will be a six week hiatus? Just thinking out loud.

I was wondering that myself. There's always the claim that there is a master plan (also true on Alias), but sometimes I get the feeling that Abrams is totally winging it.

No there is only a six week hiatus because they have already burnt through most of their episodes. (Next week is episode 18 out of 24 for the season). And when you do that with out really only a few reruns in between you are going to get a period with just reruns.

true...
but we have met some people on the island that do not have a checkered past....
Walt (he was just party to Michael's marital troubles)
The black woman that sat on the beach and stared at the water for 2 episodes is another.
Hurley (guess we'll find out next week....but he's Mr. "Nice Guy" on the island)
And I don't think I would consider Jack's past as bad. He actually did the right thing by turning his Dad in.
hmm...
I'm still on the fence on the purgatory theory.

Yes, but its possible we haven't learned their checkered past yet. You never know when we're going to get more backstories.

Because if they all had a normal past it wouldn't be much of a show would it? :rolleyes And because of the way the season started, with weeks and weeks of new episodes, no repeats, we have to hit a dry spell before they build up to the finale.

Of course there's a master plan. But sometimes that plan has to change, actors come and go, budgets change, the network has certain demands, and sometimes stories just have to grow and change on their own.

I was thinking the same thing... everyone here (and I'm sure most viewers) have been complaining about the amount of backstory and how they're sick of it. Maybe Abrams moved some things around, because next week seems to be purely action on the island. Looks great from the previews :thumbsup

Yea supposedly 60% (maybe more) is overseas viewers because they get shows sometimes a year later than we do so they want the newest stuff now.

I was just thinkin about this today... I thought it was amazing how Abrams came up with the convo between the asian guy (forget his name) and his boss when he was trying to get his approval to win his daughter. He talks about his dreams to build a hotel, but when he gets offered a job by her dad, he accepts. Then the dad goes, "I don't want my daughter marrying someone who throws away his dreams so quickly." Then the asian guy goes, "she is my dream."
...just thought that was really clever. :rolleyes

I just can't believe the dog on the show is in IMDB...Do other famous film animals have IMDB entries?
There are lots of animals listed on IMDB:
- Keiko, the orca Willy from Free Willy (with a headshot!).
- Max, the dog Milo from The Mask.
- Mason Rock Bay, the dog from Bad Boys 2.
- Hampton, the dog from Thirteen (credited as 'himself').
- TJ, the horse from Hidalgo.
And if you think that's weird, check these out:
- Wilson the Volleyball from Cast Away (the cast list has him on the bottom, which is a crime, considering he has almost as much scenes as Tom Hanks).
- Robby the Robot, a robot (he has quite a resume, and a birth date).
- Otto, the inflatable auto-pilot from Airplane!.
Next thing they'll add Bruce, the animatronic shark from Jaws, or the T-rex robot from Jurassic Park. I heard they had to pay her a fortune for her cameo appearance in JP3. And I also heard that the Queen from Aliens auditioned for a big feature movie, starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger.
''De Cock, with C-O-C-K''
i dont know who most of these are tho
