me too, for the most part I loathe the stuff on TV, and LOST is the only show I reserve time to watch.

Mac, allow me to save you oodles of time right here and now if I may, and say don't bother. I watched these 5 seaons of "24" so far but I'm finally done with it, honestly I'm embarrassed I lasted that long. I've always been a strong Kiefer Sutherland fan, but it got more contrived, convoluted and ridiculous with each passing episode, and thus season. Things had a way of transpiring very conveniently on that show. Very often (particularly in this past year's s5) the producers admittedly hadn't decided what would be the "big shocking" late season reveal until not too long before they made the reveal itself. I say particularly because last season's "biggie" really made no sense whatsoever if you just stopped to think of a few certain events that happened earlier on in the year. I think they chose it just as a way of wanting to continually top themselves.

Enjoy
So am I the only one that's watched that and STILL doesn't really understand what they're trying to say about the #'s? I mean I don't know if chalk it up to the quality (obviously intended) and that I missed hearing certain words or whatever, but maybe I'm just thick, I tried to follow it but I don't really grasp the whole "value" thing they're talking about.
(I do have to admit though to a bit of chuckling at the way they ended that, I mean seriously who didn't watch that wondering when the other shoe was gonna drop and the instructor or whoever he was was gonna suddenly "think he saw something from behind the stacks" :p :rolleyes )
Y'all, nDMBc has been scaring the shit out of me for weeks now. It's not ending. Hold me?
It's been scaring me for the past year...why do you think I only venture into here?
I avoid most of the whole board except for tour threads of shows i'm going to and the occasional thread like Lost. People bitch and complain entirely too much.
Well yea, and Alli, not like this'll be any news to you, you know all to well, but all this is a huge factor of why I essentially retired from this place. Hell except for one quick post I made in the House MD thread a couple hours ago where I just wanted to spread a link, I haven't literally done anything here in a couple months at least, and really haven't even lurked hardly at all either. I just stopped caring, this place became a freak show and from what I've seen now still very much is. I mean I've said it a million times there's just a slew of idiots around this joint and I just can't relate to these people, and so have been happily absent. I really don't even know that this would be me coming "back" at all even (though I know, the lot of you are just desperate to find out, you're just hanging on the edge of your seat ;) :p ), but if I were at all I'm sure it would just be for occassionally speaking up here, particularly with the new season starting up.
But anyhow, back to god forbid a thought on the show itself.... I'm not saying I have a specific reason to believe this, it's just a feeling I have. But I've got just that -- a feeling -- that after not too terribly long we'll end up rooting for at least some of The Others, and I mean just generally in whatever they're doing. That eventually we'll see that, maybe not all, but some, are in fact "the good guys", just like Mr. Henry Gale reassured Michael.
(which, speaking of, anybody notice that one particular Capital One credit card ad where the family is train hopping as the way to inexpensively travel for their vacation -- one of the bums in the train is Zeke! complete with full beard and everything ;) )
EDIT: oh and I forgot to mention, I already told Alli about this but, you know that I'd taken so long without making a post, that when I did happen to come to the site, there was actually a message that kept appearing at the top of every page I was on that said something like "junior94! We see that it's been a long time since you've posted in our forums. Why don't you ask a question, participate in a poll or try to provide an answer to a fellow member in one of our more technical areas!'..... something to that affect. It seriously said that, yep :D

Oh and I forgot to comment on this earlier as well. This so very much reminds me of something else I've been exposed to a bit recently. I've very happily become a fan of California born singer/songwriter Anna Nalick over the last year. Somewhere in there I found the message board on her official Columbia Records site.
Now, a number of the fans who post regularly on this msg board are in fact perfectly nice and lovely people, but for the love of god they never tire of finding new ways to tell you that Anna is literally the greatest new singing talent of the last 25 years. I'm not kidding. I mean it's practically a given that for several of these people Anna's already become their favorite overall artist in all of music, but then to go on about how she's the best (if not at least among them) singer of the last couple decades :rolleyes It's just insanity. And hell, I'll tell Anna right to her face, I mean she's really got a great gift as a lyricist, a beautiful haunting voice and I believe she's got a helluva bright future, but Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos SHE AIN'T quite yet. And the funny thing is she'll be the first one to tell ya.
And like, I know the idea doesn't perfectly transfer over, but in a way I kind of want to pull that classic speech that William Shatner gives to the Trekkie convention in that old episode of Saturday Night Live :D
Hello, Anna Nalick fans. I'd like you to meet Perspective. Perspective, meet Anna Nalick fans. I'm sure you'll get along famously :angel

But about the final video - this isn't spoilery right?? Just in case...yeah, I'm sketchy on the numbers thing too but they lost me at "equation" :lol I'm thinking that I at least understand that they are trying to perfect a virus that only kills those for whom it was genetically designed to kill? Is that right? A virus to stop famine and wars... they want to kill all the bad guys of the world?

We don't know the equation yet. The numbers are what is put into the equation to see when the end of the world is. The Dharma Intiatives goal is to change the numbers so that there is a different outcome and possibly stop the end of the world.

Oh, they're trying to change the numbers. So... how can you change a number that is put into an equation? This is where my head starts to hurt. I'm a social scientist not a damned mathematician! Is it like these numbers are supposedly givens and they're trying to manipulate things to change the given and delay the end of the world? I need to phone a friend.

Episode 3.02: Further Instructions (Locke-centric)
Airdate: October 11, 2006
The Oct. 11 episode, called "Further Instructions," will also reveal what happened to Locke, Desmond and Eko when the hatch collapsed in last season's finale, and will find Hurley returning to camp after being released by the Others. "Ian Somerhalder guest stars as Boone," the network copy says.

-What's up with the big statue foot?

Personally, I think this format is far more suitable to the type of show Lost is. The first 6 episodes keep the time between seasons to just 4 months, start to answer some of the questions posed by the previous season finale, and also will likely leave us with a mini-cliffhanger as we wait out the next couple months. Then again, some more questions asked as we head full steam to the spring with another season finale. While it will seem like an annoying 13 weeks in the middle, I'm thankful already that every episode will be brand new - woo hoo!!!

I'm bored, and I'm watching Season One: Disc One, so here's a fun thing I'll try.
What was the biggest surprise for you?
Sun speaking English.
Kate being a criminal.
Locke being a cripple.
Charlie being a druggie.
Sawyer pulling a gun on the polar bear.
Michael's complicated relationship with Walt.
Hurley being a millionaire.

I'd have to say... Sun speaking English and Michael getting hit by the car (in the flashback) were the most surprising moments in the first 3/4 of Season One (I'm on 18 now).
I hate to say it, but I don't think I'm gonna make it all the way through Season Two by Wednesday.
Alas. Season Two is too complicated anyway.
Also, I'm doing what I've wanted to do for a long time: writing down each episode's flashbacks, so eventually I can go back and put them in order... PLUS make a map of how each life had crossed previous to the crash.
Does anyone know if there is a website that has "Why each character was on Flight 815?"

P.S. Boone just died. That's how much I still have left!

My fellow LOST bretheren, I come out of hiding to deliver you a review of the 3rd season premiere via Aintitcoolnews....
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30265
It is of course rather spoiley, but also before the episode review, there's noted 3 more overeaching plot ideas that are "supposedly" dealt with over the course of season 3, I emphasize a bit of skepticism because of their source being Scotland's edition of the Daily Star (as the article says, a paper more known for shots of boobies than its journalism).

Yeh, I finished re-watching Season One last night, and now I'm on the third episode of Season Two... It's gonna be a tight finish!
I am, also, VERY excited for the new season. So much potential. I hope they start answering some questions instead of raising new ones... Like WHAT IS WITH TH BLACK SMOKE MONSTER?

Does anyone know if there's a chance that Michael and Walt will be back? I know they're "gone," but are the actors really done w/ the show?

Not as worthless as Hurley's girlfriend.
At least Analulu added to the overall badass factor of the survivors.
EDIT: I do agree that she was worthless, though. Mr. Eko is the only good thing to come from the other side of the island.

I just finished watching season 2 on dvd and I've been doing some back reading. I always wondered about the other random people on the island. I understand that the show is already complicated enough as it is, but what exactly do those people do? They just hang out on the beach for 65 days and let everyone else do all the exciting things? And why don't they ever question anything the other characters do? And why is Jack so whiney? "Everyone do what I say!" "My plan is the right one!!" "Locke, why couldn't you wait until I was done to shave!" He annoys me almost as much as Michael yelling about his boy every 10 seconds.
Sorry. Just had to get those things off me chest.

I have to say that the development of Jack's character in the second season was not for the best. However I still feel that I relate to him the most, and I feel that he really does look out for the best interests of all the survivors even if he does go on a little power trip every once in awhile. Plus, he the nice guy and I like to see the nice guy succeed especially when it comes to getting the girl. That is why I hope its Jack and not Sawyer who ends up with Kate.

Kate. Is so. Hot. Want to touch the hiney.
The first season was more about establishing the mythology of the show, or the spiritual side of things. Thus Locke was "on top" and Jack was down. The second season was more about the reality of things, or the scientific part. Thus Jack was "on top" and Locke was down. Now what?

I think Jack's dad is still alive, they want you to think he is just hearing these things because he's not eating or what not. I feel like Ben (Henry Gale) made Juliette tell Jack that they found the autopsy. In the beginning of the episode hwen the crash crashed, none of the others knew anything about the people. someone is feeding them information which i think is jack's dad.

Maybe. That's interesting.

Okay, I missed the Lost premiere, because it airs at 8 here as opposed to back home, when it airs at 9. Anyone want to PM me and tell me at what time it'll be posted on ABC's site? I just checked, and it's got the season finale and a recap up right now. Do I have to wait til 1, so it's midnight CA time? PM me, please. I don't want to read through this thread.

I'm still rewatching Season Two, which I must do before watching the tape of tonight's season premiere, so I have averted my eyes and come here to make a simple observation/contribution:
Two most disappointing moments of a character:
Hurley: When we first see him hording large amounts of food. I truly thought that Hurley, the character, would see the island as a perfect way to lose weight. Even with the discovery of the hatch, I thought that Hurley would certainly lose weight.
Sawyer: When he crushed that frog in his hand. It seems like that was a LITTLE too harsh, even for Sawyer. We all know he acts like a badass, but he's mostly just talk.
Any thoughts? Well, if you have some, I'll read them in a few hours, after I've watched tonight's episode.

Sawyer: It's a frog. Not like he squished Claire's baby.

Hmm. Now I wonder what "Carrie" has to do with anything or if it was just a random shout-out to Stephen King, who is a huge fan of the show?
Juliette was a big fan. What's that say about her? Flashback to pig-blood being poured on her head at the prom, perhaps? :lol

Alright, I've finished my marathon of rewatching seasons one and two, and i stayed up all night finishing season two just so i could watch the tape from last night...
So, I'm a little exhausted at the moment. Recap:
I rewatched the opening sequence a couple times. I agree with what's been said, that the 'earthquake' was Desmond failing to push the button, which also led to the plane crash. My question is this: Why did all of the Others look up at the sky as soon as they came outside? Were they expecting a plane crash after a System Failure? Most of the time, I think earthquake survivors come outside and look at their house or each other, not at the sky.
I also agree that Juliette looks alot like Desmond's lady-friend, but what can ya do?
FINALLY, we found out where the polar bear came from! Also, the shark with the Dharmo logo now has an explanation, too.
To me, it seems like The Others are just a bunch of sociologists still conducting their little experiment on human behavior or psychology ("You said Sawyer, then Jack," - Henry Gale).
How freaking huge is this island, anyway? Cmon, TWO sections of passengers, and neither of them came across the fake Others camp or the real Others "resort,"?
Finally, since Juliette said that the Dharma stuff was in the past, I wonder if they just left Desmond in the Swan solely to see how long he would last. Heck, it appears that at least someone was in the Pearl filling up those books, but they have since disappeared, so maybe the Dharma stuff just naturally pettered out and left Desmond uninformed.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Wicked good episode, I'm just getting sick of the flashbacks. Just think of how much faster the plot would progress without the flashbacks!

P.S. If I were Jack, and my dad had been sleeping with my wife, I would have done a little more than just lunge at him...

all i could think about when they showed the village was the part of the island that the losties couldn't cross because it was too rocky or something. so maybe the village is in there on purpose?
i just don't get the motives of the scientists. if they are 'good guys' then they are being pressured to treat the losties like animals. but who is doing the pressuring?
my vote goes to jacks dad. maybe he is in cahoots with deze's gf.

different songs. this was "downtown", desmond's was "make your own kind of music", or something like that. they might be the same artist, however. i'll have to check.
i didn't backread, so i apologize if i'm repeating anything. it appears the others have formed some sort of utopian (sp?) society on the island and don't like intruders. it appears that they were not expecting the plane crash, but were prepared for what to do when it happened. i'm also guessing that the others were not part of the dharma initiative at all. i'm guessing they were there before that as well. i'm basing this on another theory i have in that the others are all a lot older than they look. we know the island has healing powers, so why couldn't it also have a fountain of youth type of thing going on. my guess is that the others have remained the same age from the time they arrived on the island. why, when or how they got there is still a huge question. another question is why no children? is that why they're only interested in kids? so glad the new season is under way.

I'm pretty sure it was "let it go."
And for some reason, i have a feeling that Jack's dad may have a bigger role in the show and all of this than it seems right now. He's always brought up, connected to a bunch of people, they made it a point to show that nobody on the island was ever able to find his dead body after the crash...
Another thing I'm really confused about is what the hell the Others have been doing aside from burning muffins and joining book clubs! I mean, they're all hanging out in their houses, having a grand old time with no experiments going on anywhere (at least it doesn't seem like it)...then the plane crashes and right away all the craziness starts up?
So now I have a theory about Ben/Henry (let's call him Benry). Maybe all the experimentation died down or they stopped for whatever reason for awhile until the plane crashed. Juliet and Benry have something weird going on, and i think what Benry meant when he looked at Juliet and said, "I guess I won't be invited to book club anymore" was that Juliet was going to be mad at him after what he is about to do? Maybe? Because I for one actually LIKE Juliet and am excited to get to know her better. I have a feeling she may be switching sides...

Interesting ideas and theories going on in here, I like it.
But how do you guys explain the Other's knowledge and access to medication if they aren't somehow involved with Science?
And how does that communication box work in an Aquarium?
And what happened to the other prisoner? Was he a decoy Other?
Good start to the season thus far, but I feel as though we are left with more questions than before. That's the way this show goes, a question is answered by 10 more questions.

Everything that happened to them was planned. The others know a lot about them and how to handle them. The escaping man was put there to show Sawyer that escape is impossible. Kate, Jack and Sawyer were all handled differently based on their personalities.

So curiousity getting the best of me I'm rewatching the episode now, she actually grabs the Talking Heads Cd "Speaking in Tongues" but puts in the Dual Disc of Son Volt "Okemah And The Melody Of Riot" (2005) (based on sku number on inner label) but the song "Downtown" plays from Petula Clark ( i had to look up her name :p )

yep i was thinking that also. Well thinking they raped her because of the cuts from the cuffs. Are these people all related then on that island? Why else would they need an outsider to reproduce?
Im thinking that all these people found this island becasue somethign horrible happend to them in a prior life time. They just needed to get out of society. Im still confused on how they got all that information. I dont think this is some study. I dont know what to think actually.

Personally, I think that Henry reacted in such a speedy manner in sending out Goodwin and Ethan that he/they MUST have been expecting a plane crash sooner or later, especially because they knew Desmond/replacement would eventually give up.
Still makes you wonder about Rousseau, though. How did SHE get there, for real, and does anything from last night help fill in holes in her story?
I think there is definitely something going on with the children, and it's more than just some sociologists or utopians. Some of these folks are legit scientists (recall Claire's episodes), and I still think that ALL of the Others are connected to the Dharma folks.
Just to vent:
WHAT IS UP WITH THE BLACK SMOKE MONSTER!? AHHHHH, I want more answers!
Let's see, what else...
Oh, I hope that Jack/Sawyer/Kate's captivity doesn't drag on too long, because that could get old very quickly.
My biggest question right now, actually, is whether or not we'll get flashbacks/episodes for any of the Others, like Henry or Juliette?

If that were true why would they lock her in a cage outside? Wouldn't they want their child protected? Or is the cage supposed to be the protection, and if so, wouldn't they want to properly nourish Kate?

I think all this talk about Kate being preggo is pretty off-the-wall.
The one thing I want to know is: Is Sun preggo with Michael's baby, or with Jin's? Remember, Jin was the sterile one in the relationship, and, aside from the obvious response that "the island has special healing powers," there was quite a long time there where Sun and Michael were pretty close, even if Jin and Sun did eventually kiss and make up.
I want Locke and Mr. Ecko to unleash some WHOOP ASS on the Others. "Don't you think it's a little weird that your Jesus stick has dried blood on it?" - Charlie

Everything that happened to them was planned. The others know a lot about them and how to handle them. The escaping man was put there to show Sawyer that escape is impossible. Kate, Jack and Sawyer were all handled differently based on their personalities.
Why did they beat the shit out of the guy then?

Every once in a while, I try to imagine how it all will end. What will be the answer to all the questions? Would I be satisfied if the island was just an island with a bunch of people on it? Woudl I be satisfied if the island was in a temporal wormhole and noone can ever leave it?
What are your thoughts? Has anyone come up with a solution that would actually satisfy your hopes?

Well, if one of the solutions I came up with actually happened, I'd probably be pretty disappointed just because I wasn't surprised.

I wanna know if the producers have it all planned through, or if they are making everything up as they go...

That's my theory. I also believe they pay close attention to what fans are saying on the internet... I believe the "it's all in Hurley's mind" episode was a direct response to one of the popular theories people were coming up with at the time. I also sometimes wonder if the writers go back and watch old episodes looking for minor details that seemed immaterial at the time and finding a way to make them important later in the series to make themselves look smart.

I wonder if Locke has to deal with any of the philosopher stuff...You know John Locke (SP). I have a book I can look into it. It might give us a hint...who knows..these writers are going to admit they are on drugs when this show is over....so let them have their fun adn we will have ours...

I don't believe the it's all in Hurley's mind theory at all. I believe the snowglobe theory, and that something is blocking everybody from getting out, except going exactly at the right compass location or whatever.

i didn't think that was very revealing at all.
Oh, what do you know, newb!? :p
Well, we learned where the polar bear came from (at least we can assume) as well as the shark.

We never saw them beat him up. They are rather fond of makeup. We know this.
Also, remember the person underneath the house fixing the plumbing or whatever at the beginning? Wasn't that him?

I believe the person underneath the house was Ethan.
I keep rewatching the plane split in middair. That is the most exciting moment in Lost history, in my opinion.

I don't know if that was him but I still find it odd. Oh well, I'm sure it'll get explained.

It wasn't him. It was Ethan, as someone else said.

I have a feeling she may be switching sides...
i think he just said that because they were having the book club meeting and he was obviously not there/invited. so maybe he did something before to have juliet not invite him.
they did have a weird moment when they had jack in that cell...when benry said something about doing a good job and they just stared at each other.
