While we are discussing the dialogue about the "8 survived the crash" or whatever, wasn't there also something along the lines of "Kate helped 5 people from the plane"?

Yup I've convinced myself that Aaron is being hidden and only a select few know about him. Including Rosie the Dharma provided Illegal Immigrant house keeper.
Kate's lawyer brought him up...I guess that's not saying that the rest of society is privy to his existence though.

Wasn't that just such typical Lost though? I mean every episode there is some court room drama cover up. Fucking Lost! Amirite?

He probably knows of the cover up, or parts of it. When he brought it up, it was almost like they had discussed it before and it was a sure thing to get her off. Because what good is there in having a 2 year involved in a trial?

Just a quick thought...
We've seen three Jack flashforwards:
1. Season Finale, with the beard, trying to get back to the Island.
2. Season Premiere, Hurley's episode, Jack seemed pretty content.
3. Tonight, no beard, addressed as Doctor.
What's the chronology? When does Jack go crazy and try to get back? AFTER the trial?
Dan
1 is definitely last. I'd say 3,2, then 1. 3 being the closest from coming back from the island. Because, Kate would have probably immediately, or relatively soon there after, been apprehended for her crimes after she got back

That makes sense. I assume Kate's hesitation to bring Aaron into the courtroom has a lot more to do with her wishing not to expose him to such a thing, rather than a cover up.

I get that she doesn't want to expose him to such a thing, but I don't get why the attorney would even care to bring him into the courtroom. I mean he isn't going to testify, so him just being there would have to be enough to serve some purpose and I'm guessing it's not just so the jury feels sorry for Kate.

I actually think it would be incredibly lame to just have the baby sit there and somehow the jury would feel bad. I mean in that case they would obviously know she has a baby, so what difference would having him there make? It's not like the baby was even that cute. I'm sticking with the baby being covered up. And down the road I'll quote myself and look like a genius.

The baby can't be a coverup, she was telling anyone who would listen that she had a son. Among them, the DA in her trial. Not to mention that her mother knew and was working with the DA. So tell me how that is possible. And wouldn't everyone know the baby wasn't hers since she wasn't like 9 months pregnant on the plane. This leads me to believe that the baby may actually be Kate's and the father is Sawyer. That may be a soft spot for Jack explaining his reluctance at the end of the episode.

I think somethings interesting that people have yet to bring up is they say 8 survived the crash but they are only known as the oceanic 6.
my thoughts...correct me if i am wrong.
oceanic 6
1.kate
2.jack
3.hurley
4.sayid
5.???aaron??? - not sure if he would be counted
6.???
the other 2 survivors in jack's cover up story:
1.claire...possibly, because if people know aaron was adopted by kate, then obviously she would have had to survive the crash to give birth.
2.maybe whoever is in the casket...probably not though, becuase that would have happened after this trial becuase the casket was in the episode where jack is nuts with the beard. hmmm

And to continue along these same lines kinda....
Desmond saw Claire and Aaron getting on the helicopter, but that doesn't mean they make it back. I would assume that whoever gets off the island must ride the helicopter to the freighter then ride back with them, so possible something happens to Claire and possibly Aaron on the freighter. Although, I'm not too sure anymore about Kate's Aaron being a different child because I couldn't see them killing off a baby, ya know. So I really don't know what to think anymore.:shrug

I can't stop thinking about whether or not Kate is trying to pass Aaron as her own, or if people know it's NOT her child. Who knows...Claire could have been one of the 2 who "didn't make it" (I also think Charlie may be the other one), or Kate could have easily just said she was pregnant before she got to the island (if there is in fact a big time difference or depending on how long they were really there for). I mean, she was a fugitive that nobody knew anything about...she could have passed that off I think.
I also can't BELIEVE the "8 survived" thing. I think that's even bigger than Aaron being raised by Kate. So insane. And funny how it was so natural for Jack like that story has been drilled into their heads and repeated thousands of times. You can also tell that Jack KNOWS that's his nephew...and something horrible must have happened to Claire for Jack to have a hard time seeing Aaron.
Lost is the best show ever made. Ever. :D

Another strange scene...the one w/ Charlotte and Daniel and the playing cards. He couldn't remember which cards were on the table? It was weird when Charlotte's like "well, 2 for 3" and what did Daniel say...something like "3 cards?? Only 3! What's happening?"
Obviously we can't figure that out yet, but I'm sure it's significant.

Yeah, i took it back that it may be her actual child when I thought about how they might have to kill off a baby. I just don't think they would do it. I also thought Kate was real creepy like when she said his name, almost like she stole him or something. But if that was the case Jack would know about it and I don't think he would be cool with Kate if that were the case.

I got a big kick out of Kate slapping Sawyer in the face last night. He was dead on and she knew it.
During this little chat with Sawyer, was I the only one wondering exactly how it was that Kate knew for absolute fact that she wasn't pregant? Maybe I'm just being slow or naive, but I wasn't necessarily taking for granted that there'd been a second testing kit lying around (after the one Sun had previously used).
And even with last night's 11th hour revelation, I still don't take for granted that Kate's s3 finale "he" was Aaron.
Lastly, I'm wondering if just because the button hatch has now since been destroyed, does that necessarily mean the island wouldn't be receiving anymore Dharma food drops... :rolleyes
Because I'm trying to think, the time it took us to get from the pilot episode to when the original drop was made in s2, are we coming upon now approximately the same amount of time past since that drop (meaning, if Dharma had a regular schedule for said drops, would another one be soon coming).
Oh and also, I don't necessarily think Jack in the future has a reluctance to see Aaron because something possibly happened to Claire along the way (and/or him knowing by then the kid was his step-nephew), but I was looking at it in a more simple light, that him visiting the baby would just be too much of a concrete reminder of this HUGE lie they're all telling to the public.

I highly doubt the $3.2M is a kind of code ala Naomi's sister, but you can be damn sure there's a very specific reason he's asking for exactly that much (with Ben putting an exclamation point on it asking why it's that number in particular, not 3.3, or 3.4, etc).

I think it was that Kate had her period during the episode. The fact that she was positive about not being pregnant and the fact that she didnt want to sleep with Sawyer at night or the next morning is what leads me to believe that.

I thought it was a good episode, but I think the reveal at the end would've been more exciting if it hadn't been foreshadowed the entire show. And Locke putting the grenade in Miles' mouth....WOW!
Not to nitpick, I realize it's a tv show and all, but was Kate charged with manslaughter or felony murder over Tom's death? If I'm not mistaken, he had a wife and a child. If my husbands fugitive childhood sweatheart showed up, dragged him into something illegal and then got him killed along the way, I sure as hell would want her to serve SOME type of prison sentence (no matter what had happened to her after the fact).

Alright, so I think I'm still drunk from last night, but here it goes...
I just watched the episode on ABC.com, and I'll be honest, I didn't like it. As soon as 'Kate's son' was mentioned, I figured it was Aaron, so I wasn't shocked at the ending. It is pretty obvious that it is Claire's Aaron (he's as blond as she is), and I'm thinking Claire is, according to Jack's story, one of the 8 that survived the crash, but somehow 'died' on the island.
I can't do this right now, I'm gonna go pass out again. Full synopsis to come...

It was my understanding that she was being charged with her father's or stepfather's murder (I forget what his relation to her was). But there was no mention of Tom's death, which figured pretty prominently in the first season. From what I remember of that episode (I haven't seen it in some time), she easily could have been charged with manslaughter. It was unintentional, but that's the very definition of manslaughter, killing without malice or intent.
All in all, its not really important, it was just something that had bugged me a little.

What about the fortune teller in the first season that warned Claire about the child if she had him? I wonder if that is going to play out at all in the plot with Aaron.

This isn't Full House; Lost doesn't need no stinkin' theme song.
I assume he's talking about the opening with the eerie score where "LOST" flies by the camera. I've actually always hated it. Apparently JJ or something made it on his computer way back before they even filmed the pilot, I think. Anyways it's a horrible render and as "LOST" gets closer the edges of the "O" kind of flicker, it's annoying. Just fucking redo it.

Oh sweet moses, I know nobody cares about this but I gots to brag a minute. I got myself a new monitor this past week. See, every day for the last 7 years, I've been looking into a bulbous 13" CRT monitor for all of my personal computing. Count me now as the owner of a sweet ass 19" widescreen Acer model. Shit, I practically feel like I've got my own private IMAX theatre here two feet from my eyes :D
And Thursday night I wasn't feeling well and was actually in bed while Lost broadcast, so I was gonna have to DL it either way, and I treated myself to the 720p HD rip, ohhhhhhhhhh mama :D I can't even tell ya how good this looked (and mind you, this isn't even an officially "hi def" monitor, and it's not even like Acer is the top of the line when it comes to them or anything).
Now then, to the actual show.... for the as yet unaware, the newest Entertainment Weekly has a big ole' interview with Darleton where they touch upon MANY things, including what we can expect will and won't get answered by this season's end, and how, as they say, "sometimes a bracelet's just a bracelet" (there's no major plot connection between Naomi's and Elsa's silver bracelet, it merely was a little emotional character moment they decided to throw in for Sayid).

FTA:
If we were sitting down with you right now, and there hadn't been a strike, we would be in the middle of writing the finale. The entire season would have been done and the audience would have only seen two or three episodes. Now, we actually have an opportunity to react and adjust to how people are feeling about everything. That's a really interesting point; I wonder what effect it will have if any.
CUSE: Lost is complex and dense, but we are very conscious of the limits. If we are going to jump time, we're not going to jump narrative order within the time jumps, too.THANK YOU!
LINDELOF: We wrote the Sayid episode before the Boston Red Sox won the World Series a second time.
:lol nice, I love how we talk about the meaning of that scene and it turns out it was written before Boston won twice, hehe.

I saw it last night, and there we're literally HUNDREDS of Lost clues.
During the movie Jack (or Kent Taylor or w/e) says something about a "war continuing forever" or something like that. I think it has a TON to do with the on/off island war that we're witnessing in Lost... :rolleyes

Yeah this is a dangerous thing with this show, we get so used to dissecting so many things because quite a few do have hidden meanings, that we so easily forget that there are still plenty of small things that don't. The trick is finding a balance, between having fun looking for the stuff inbetween the lines, and just letting the show wash over you at its own pace.
Out of curiosity, you saying that's bullshit about the bracelet -- you don't seriously think they're flat out lying about that in press here, do you? I really doubt they would do that, the way in which you're thinking. Unless you're just being sarcastic or whatever.

And once again my weird reversal when it comes to Kate continues. Again, there's nothing to what Jack said about "8 survivors" in my opinion.
He said there were 8 who survived the initial crash but 2 didn't make it. He was just trying to reinforce that Kate was doing all she can to help those who survived the crash
Oh, I didn't realize it was a story for her sake. Geez, I'd come back in here to say, "Why would they tell people there were 8..." Duh. No more Lost-texting during the show for me. :lol
my thoughts...correct me if i am wrong.
oceanic 6
1.kate
2.jack
3.hurley
4.sayid
5.???aaron??? - not sure if he would be counted
6.???
the other 2 survivors in jack's cover up story:
1.claire...possibly, because if people know aaron was adopted by kate, then obviously she would have had to survive the crash to give birth.
2.maybe whoever is in the casket...probably not though, becuase that would have happened after this trial becuase the casket was in the episode where jack is nuts with the beard. hmmm
Ever. :D
There is obviously a huge coverup by the Oceanic 6.....the entire world thinks the plane crashed into the water, and that Kate broke free and saved the other 7, because its claimed that 8 survived and 2 died later.
There is no mention of all of the other survivors, the people on the island...nothing. There is no mention of Ben.....though Ben may have been part of the Oceanic 6 if he was somehow able to pretend that he was someone else on the manifest.
There is a huge coverup going on, and Jack, Kate, etc are in on it.

You can barely read it. Most people who watch the show wouldn't know anything about it, let alone what it says. It is the clipping that Jack is holding during last season's finale. It must make sense to him, seeing as he is in such bad shape, but we are as of yet completely unaware of what it means.

:thumbsup I agree. These writers are too invested and know all too well how fans react to certain things. No, not everything will be answered, but why does EVERYTHING have to be? I like the process of theorizing and not being spoon fed every episode with simple answers to questions. Personally I think we need a Lost sub-forum to keep all the seperate lines of thought seperate
Someone else brought this up recently, and I'll say the same thing I said then. If there's not a specific "24" subforum here on Ants, we sure as hell won't be getting a LOST subforum :p (even though realize that Lost is easily the most posted about TV show on Ants, blowing the 24 thread away by some 3000 posts right now).

Yea I'm kinda inclined to agree here. I mean look, they've already pulled a sweet fast one on us by having us sort of take for granted for the first 2.5 seasons or so that the basic endgame would be simply whether or not they got off the island -- little did we know such an event would merely become the key (a little more than) midway turning point in a huge, expansive story. It's virtually an entirely new show this year, though without losing its existing mystique.
Btw, I know there are at least a few of us that count ourselves as huge fans of LOST as well as THE WEST WING, well I picked up on a neat little casting detail a couple days ago. I'm currently going back thru the s5 episodes of TWW, and in ep #4 ("Han") where a visiting Korean piano prodigy secretly slips the message to President Bartlett that he wants to defect, the prodigy himself and his main Korean 'handler' are both LOST vets. The piano player is the tall bald guy with which Sun was set up by her mom before she met Jin (& had that short lived affair), and the handler is Sun's father.

Oh and about the whole delivering on the answers topic for the overall of the series, true, it's essentially more about the journey itself, but they have said in the past that they're very mindful of series like "X-Files" that as good as they were, definitely were guilty of putting forth way more questions than they ultimately delivered sufficient answers for, so not only do I believe that we'll get a significant percentage of our mysteries revealed (especially of course the larger ones), but I'm sorry, I have to say as a writer myself, it's otherwise just lazy to create a bunch of set ups that in the end have no payoff. Hell, anyone can just make a bunch of crazy shit up as they go, tossing out whatever fringe ideas come to mind, the quality is having the overall plan laid out from the beginning of where those roads lead, which, all of the true hardcore fans have realized well before now that Darleton has got that part covered ;)

Oh cmon, if everyone followed that train of thought, there wouldnt be many people posting on this board. Its no different than following DMB, but not being thrilled about their current state.
I can enjoy the show, but feel that its lacking. Just so many twists and turns....situations that have come up from the 1st or 2nd season that hasnt even been touched on for years. Im hoping that they wrap it up nicely, but I just cant see it happening smoothly.

I have a feeling that it will close up nicely, and to everyone's satisfaction. Actually, check that, nobody is ever satisfied... But still, I think it will be a satisfactory ending. One problem with shows like Alias or X-Files that promised so much yet delivered so little was that there was no set time frame in which to tell their story. Lost could easily have been that way. BUT, now that they have a defined period of time, I honestly believe that all of the main story arcs are already drawn out. The book is written, now we just have to take it in, chapter by chapter, you know? I was losing faith until they came out with an end date.

One of the biggest things that I've been curious about regarding how it'll all play as far as this episode shrinkage that has to take place due to the writers strike, I wonder if we'll now get multiple episodes which feature multiple characters' flashforwards. Because think about it, it's reasonable to assume if the strike never had happened and we'd of been getting a full 2nd 8 after the 1st 8, that each of them would've had a ffwd dedicated to one character as it's been so far (with the exception of course of ep #2 showcasing all the freighter folk). And now they can't do that with all the condensing they'll have to pull off. I can't imagine they'd just take three entire flashforwards of certain characters and wipe them off the map completely, that they'd still want to integrate all of them somehow.
This is actually one of the very first thoughts that I had after they'd announced they'd only be doing the 13 eps for season 4, but I've been forgetting to bring it up.

Well they did say we're going to get the full amount of episodes so they are going to make them up. But the flashforwards definitely further the story more than the flashbacks do, so you would think they couldn't just hold them off until the next season or whenever they make those episodes up. I think the multiple flashforwards would be tough to do just because they don't allocate too much time for them as it is. Good point here. I am definitely curious as to how they're going to do it.

That'd be pretty crazy. I'm not sure when Sayid would have had time to meet with Ben enough to first earn his trust and then work for him though. I feel like we saw him randomly enough in the begin of the series to debunk that. But that would be terrible for me I love Sayid.

He didn't say "don't allow anyone", he said, "another cannot raise this child." I'm thinking the wording is very important here. It'll be cool if one of the lostees do, but not one of the others maybe?
The thing that pisses ME off the most right now is that everyone has seemed to forget about Charlie! Not one mention of him last week. I picked up on that too, seemed a little odd. And I guess I'm one of the very few who was a little dissapointed with the season premiere scene of Hurley first telling Claire of Charlie's death. Don't know what it was, just them as actors seemed to miss something there, it wasn't quite as powerful a moment dramatically as I'd assumed they'd reach.
Plus as far as realizing where the "island time" actually is, I've brought this up before but, aren't they coming up on Christmas Day for 2004? I wonder if they'll acknowledge that.

Damn, shows to go ya how much out of the pop culture loop I've been; the first time I'd heard or seen of the 'Fucking Matt Damon' video at all was seeing the page on Aint It Cool News yesterday bringing up the parody video of it by Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks from the set of the next Kevin Smith movie. I don't know what it is about Sarah Silverman anymore, but she's turning me off big time. I'm just getting this sense that she's way too full of herself and her comedic talent. I just feel a certain arrogance coming from her that's not simply part of the act.
Oh and btw if anyone cares, the Lost/West Wing casting connection I brought up before, with the Sun father & boyfriend characters, there's actually another huge one I'd totally forgotten. Terry O'Quinn played Nicholas Alexander, the new Chairman For The Joint Chiefs that took over at the start of season 5 after John Amos's Percy Fitzwallace was retiring from the gig (& then was subsequently killed in a terrorist attack at the end of s5 in Gaza). Unfortunately Terry's character wasn't used nearly as much onscreen during the last part of the series as Fitzwallace was during the first 4 seasons.

If he really meant that "an Other" cannot raise the baby, then why did he want Claire on that flight so bad? I think another is another is another no matter if it's someone from the flight or one of the Others.
By the way, this is my first post in the Lost forum. Just two days ago I got myself caught up to this current point...it only took me 25 days to get through the first three seasons. How sad is that? Anyway, the topic of Aaron brings me to my current question, which may have been covered in the last few pages, I haven't back read much. If it has, I apologize.
Can we assume that since Aaron is currently around two to three months old and when Kate comes home from court to find him sleeping he is closer to two, that the Oceanic 6 are still a year to a year and a half from getting off the island? I mean, would Kate really just be going to trial after having been off the island for a good year and a half? Since she her lawyer says she has one of the most famous faces in the world, I just don't see her trial being delayed for that long...or at least her being able to be out of custody the whole time. Any other thoughts on this?

I'm guessing you meant 2-3 years old, and I agree...actually I'd closer to 3. And that's a very good question, I was thinking the same thing. Basically, why did it take them so long to get their shit together after she returned, and why was she just able to be free/out of custody for that long? I don't think that's been discussed in here yet, but it's a great point.

yeah don't we see the helicopter flying into something... a massive storm, a vortex, something. I have a feeling that's all we'll see though is turbulence!
Can't wait I hope this day flies by!

:lol I would bet that what we saw in the "next on" is all we will see of the helicopter. Then again, I remember seeing Sayid and Desmond in some sort of struggle. Maybe not, it's a little cloudy. But I do remember it looked juicy.

Well this is curious. Remember about that plan we heard about once the strike was settled that they'd hold of that last pre-strike filmed 8th episode until after the mini-break? Well no more apparently. This is the official broadcasting schedule put out by ABC (thanks to Derek for giving me the general heads up about ufck, and since I totally just stole this from them :p)
04x05: Feb. 28
04x06: March 6
04x07: March 13
04x08: March 20
............
BREAK
............
04x09: April 24
04x10: May 1
04x11: May 8
04x12: May 15
04x13: May 22 (Season Finale)
Did they announce if the season finale is gonna be 2 hours like it has been for all the other seasons? I thought I originally heard 6 new episodes which would make sense (4 one hour eps + 1 two hour finale), but all the stuff I've read lately is saying it's definitely just 5 new episodes.

Rather curious that some of the character voices are geuine, some are not. That definitely wasn't Matthew Fox or Terry O'Quinn, but I recognize Michael Emerson's voice. That's weird, I would thought they'd have gotten all the real actors for this, or none of them at all.

Okay I finally remembered a Ben related thing that I wanted to bring up recently, something that kinda seems like a bit of a descrepancy with his character.
So, I get that he shoots Locke in s3 because, especially after the Jacob encounter, it becomes even more clear to him that Locke has something very special going on, and thus poses a threat to Ben as the perceived everyday 'king' of the island, if you will. Ben's gotten quite used to his status over the years and ain't crazy about giving it up (actually on the DVD commentary track for the Jacob episode, Michael Emerson suggests that Ben's shooting of Locke and particularly sarcastically saying "Well I hope Jacob can help you now", that it was sort of one final test to see if Locke was the real deal, that yea, having Locke being able to hear Jacob was pretty big, but he did this as an extra punch at the end, figuring if Locke could somehow escape this situation, maybe it was partially to do with Jacob's help somehow and it would seal the deal that Locke is truly "special").
BUT, just a few episodes prior to that, the one where Locke (supposedly) blows up the sub and finds his dad sitting in the 'magic box' room at the very end, remember that Ben says to Locke that "you've got some communion with this island, and that makes you very important". And the scene plays in such a way that, at least I felt, Ben was very interestd in seeing just what Locke had going on, that he was practically excited at the prospect of what Locke could be.
I don't know, so those two moments coming not all that far apart from each other, just seemed to have conflicting feels to them, that Ben liked the possibility of what Locke was, but then so soon after feels very threatened by him and thus wants to eliminate him.

You can click on the characters below and a mini-bio pops up next to the CG version of each. Kate is hot :thumbsup
On the Ben note... I think that was just the evolution of Ben's character at the time. Initially, he was extremely interested in finding out how special Locke is with the hope of influencing or controlling that ability, but when Locke visits the cabin it poses a threat to Ben's overall power rather than the potential for Locke to be the Robin to Ben's Batman.

def. just 5 new ones..season finale is one hour (although they will probably promote a "2-hour event" like they did for the season premiere

Oh and I assume you meant flash forward?
tankdan
02-28-2008, 06:03 PM
Well maybe it will be a flash-forward of another of the Oceanic Six, or maybe Ben (assuming he isn't on that list). I would love to see if Sun or Jin or Rose or Bernard makes it out.
A Freighter person flashBACK might be okay, but only if they show what happened on the boat just before they found the Island.

I have absolutely no idea (I haven't even seen this week's previews), but I would put a lot money on Desmond.
e: Reasoning: The episode two weeks ago ended with Sayid and Desmond leaving in the helicopter. I figured they wouldn't touch it last week, so I'm guessing this week's episode will continue that story. Since Sayid just got a flash-forward, I'm feeling confident it will be Desmond.
