ABC has found more time to say goobye to "Lost."
The network has decided to supersize its farewell to the iconic drama, expanding a previously announced one-hour pre-show to two full hours. The special is now expected to air from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, right before the two-hour "Lost" finale.
Add in a special "Jimmy Kimmel Live" -- "Lost: After the Final Rose"

I still don't think we've seen the last of Christian Shephard on the island. Claire said, "her friend and my father," and admitted her friend was Flocke. His body was also missing when the plane crashed, Locke's appearance was taken but his original body remained. He's probably got one last scene left with Jack. I hope.

I have faith that the writers will answer some of the biggest questions. Things like Christian, Walt, or really anything that they've gone out of their way to develop a story around MULTIPLE times..should be answered in my opinion

I think they will too, but if they don't I'll be real pissed. Christian has been one of the biggest questions for me.
Also one of the biggest reasons for my excitement of this homestretch is because there is so little time and all of those important questions (Christian, Walt, Aaron) are things I expect to have answered meaning that I have no clue how they are going to come and that they will be awesomely unexpected.

The Christian thing is bothering me too, he was a great character and I hope they aren't resolving his mystery simply through Ilana's line about how Smokey is stuck as Locke now and can't show up as other apparitions. I'm still very much hoping to see Christian again.

There are a hell of a lot of people who need to be seen again (or provide us with an explanation for their being on the island)--Christian and Walt being the most important.

i will agree on jensen. sometimes he will have something that makes me a think a bit, but mostly it's obscure literary references that he just rambles on about. i will admit, though, that right now i'm reading "haroun and the sea of stories" (the book desmond is reading on the plane in the premiere) and it's partially because of his article about it. i know i won't figure out the mysteries of the universe by reading the book, but there are a lot of similarities between the book and stuff on the show, which is kinda cool.

I would not oppose the whole island actually being made of candy and they are really just in Hurley's vision of heaven.

yeah, I'm guessing they weren't exactly sure where they were going with it at that point. Either that, or they were just really trying to throw us off. We've gotten insight into what the whispers were since there were some recognizable voices of people that had died. We just never knew what it all meant. Now we know that its people that died that can't leave.
However, one of the voices I remember hearing way back when was Boone's voice. One of his lines was "Dying sucks". Now if what Michael said is true, what did Boone do that would make him trapped on the island and therefore one of the voices? I wonder if that was just a mistake or plot hole.

the idiot earlier did. if i have to i'll "go dark" these last few weeks. when i read that the season 3 twist got leaked i completely stayed away from anything that could even be remotely related to lost. seeing as how the season 3 finale twist was one of the most jaw dropping things lost as ever done, i'm so amazingly happy about my decision 3 years later i can't even explain it.

This. Details about the finale will leak. It's just reality these days. I don't post in this thread a ton, but I certainly check it. And I don't want to accidentally see a crucial detail. The fun of watching this show unfold is seeing the revelations as they happen. I don't want to have the big ones spoiled.

Only a handful or so more episodes and I'm still pretty clueless, which is why I absolutely love this show.
From tonight's ending, it's obvious that Desmond is like the only one in the altered world that knows what happened back on the island and that's why he did what he did to Locke.

Really? What made this better than last week's, which basically made this week's possible?
Because this wasnt confusing, had context, was more intereting on-island, and featured much beter progression.
Sure last weeks made this resonate. But that doesn't make the Desmond ep any better for me. IMO, it was still a mistake to go 10 episodes without giving us an inkling of what the FS were n

Well, yeah... It definitely seems like Desmond is the only one who is really understanding that he was on an island and that something is up. I guess Hurley kind of realized it too now when he kissed Libby.
I'm still thinking that Desmond is a huge piece to something because of the way he's been connected with pretty much everyone in the altered world. Charlie, Widmore, Hurley. It seems like he's going around, trying to find them.

I'm sitting in my Theology class today (Biblical heritage, which I am practically forced to take) and we were going over the gospel of John. My teacher mentions "Jacob's Well" and in a second my mind is on LOST. Here is the main idea from Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well:
"Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water (the well water) will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.'" John 4:13,14

:thumbsup Nice work, and I raise you Genesis 37 - Joseph (Jacob's favorite son, of technicolor dreamcoat fame) was thrown into a well by his brothers (who would later become the 12 tribes of Israel) and then sold into slavery. Of course the story ends "happily ever after" for Joseph, as God uses him to save Egypt (hieroglyphics? Tawaret?) from famine and he even reunites with his own family. Awww... a hint to Desmond's destiny?

The other way to flash is apparently through contact with someone you loved in the Island World (Desmond actually did both).
Since Locke had no love interest on the Island, near-death experience was the preferred method of enlightenment.

How the series will end: Everyone in the FS realizes what is happening, meets up with their constants, and gets on a plane doomed to crash on the island, but they're happy and ready for it.
The only problem with this theory is that the island is sunk at the bottom of the ocean from the bomb in the FS as shown in the season premiere.

How much freaking dynamite was on the Black Rock anyway? They've now used it about 5 different times (Rousseau's trap, trying to blow up the hatch, sabotaging the Others in the tents, Arzt, Richard, Ilana, etc.) and there's a seemingly endless supply. Not to mention the fact that this supposedly "extremely unstable" dynamite somehow survived the ship's violent crash on the island in the first place.

Not really.
For the first time all season, a flash-sideways story mattered because we (kinda) knew what the fuck was going on and why we should care. The on-island action actually progressed quite nicely, a semi-major character died, path were drawn out, and Desmond was thrown down a mysterious well. It was a fantastic episode.
Actually, I probably still enjoyed The Substitute a little more because of the mythology they unveiled (as always, on-island stuff is much more interesting), but this was 1A. Ab Aeterno was easily my favorite, probably because it was a straight-up flashback with great storytelling and acting.

Based on what I've read over the last two weeks (general plot spoilers, nothing specific), they picked a shitty time to take that break.
6.14 is a legitimate game-changer, while 6.15 is, ah, told much differently that any of the other episodes this season. Essentially, you have to wait until 6.16, the first part of the finale, to pick the story from 6.14 back up. So there's already that natural break in the story.
They should have taken the break after 6.14.

Lost: Season 6, Episode 12: "Everybody Loves Hugo"
What I liked about "Everybody Loves Hugo"
-- That finally, after 11 episodes, a flash-sideways story finally mattered. That in of itself is enough to merit an awesome grade.
-- Locke and Desmond's conversation at the well.
-- Hurley turning into the leader he never was in his other life.
-- The answer about The Whispers. It wasnt an explanation I really needed, but it worked.
-- Desmond straight scolding Locke with a BMW in the FS storyline.
-- The Black Rock getting destroyed by Hurley.
-- Jack finally letting go.
-- The Hurley and Libby story was kind of sweet.
-- Pierre Chang's VO on the Hurley highlight reel
-- "All women are a little crazy, brotha."
What I Didnt Like about "Everybody Loves Hugo"
-- Illana's death. It was telegraphed a mile away and treated just as cavalierly by the characters. A woman just fucking blew up next to you, and no one cares? You just search her shit and have a conversation about what to do next? Groan.......
-- Jack's conservation with Hurley about letting go. It was waaaaaay too spelled out and literal for my tastes. You don't have to beat us over the head with it, writers. We can see the transformation on our own.

Sepenwall (http://www.nj.com/entertainment/tv/index.ssf/2010/04/lost_everybody_loves_hugo_a_si.html), nailing it again:
In the early years of the show, a "Lost" episode and a "Lost" season tended to be constructed the same way: an exciting beginning, then a lot of narrative throat-cleaning, and then an exciting finish. Once Cuse and Lindelof got permission to set an end date and knew what they were moving towards, seasons 4 and 5 became much denser, both from week to week and over the course of each season. Season 6, on the other hand, has felt like a throwback, not just with the return of old characters like Charlie and Boone and, now, Libby, but with the way that we're heading into the home stretch with material that it feels the show would have been better-served to deal with sooner.
Though some of the early sideways stories were entertaining through the sheer force of personality of the actors/characters being spotlighted (Locke, Ben), there was nothing all that interesting about the sideways world itself until last week. By making Desmond aware of the wrongness of the world - and introducing other characters like Charlie and Faraday who also recognized this - we finally tied that world to the one we care about, and created some urgency to our visits to LA. But I'd have rather see this happen a few weeks into the season and not now, not only because it would have given greater purpose to some of those meandering flash-sideways stories like Jack's son or Jin's amazing adventure in the freezer, but because it feels like now that we have a sideways story arc (Desmond tries to nudge the Oceanic passengers into realizing that this world isn't right), the resolution of it is going to feel rushed.

What I liked:
- Libby's return. I'm glad Hurley got a happy ending of sorts with her.
- All of Desmond. FS Desmond reminded me a lot of when Hurley saw Dead Charlie for the first time back in the mental hospital. And his scenes with Flocke were just awesome. As was him just plowing right through Wheel-chair Locke. He looked almost identical to when Cooper threw him out the window and he was lying on the floor.
- Jack accepting that he can't fix everything. We need more Jack in these last episodes, and I have a feeling we'll be getting it.
- The little kid in the woods. I have a feeling it'll turn out to be some apparition of Jacob, but I think it'll be very interesting.
- Jorge Garcia's acting. He really does have great range for a guy who's usually used as comic relief.
- The answer to the whispers.
What I didn't like:
- Ilana's death. Her character was never fully utilized and now she's gone. Though I didn't really care because I wasn't attached to her character at all either.
- Sayid. It seems like he has Flocke tunnel vision. At the beginning of the season it seemed like Claire was this way too, but she's been a little more sane as of late. Maybe Flocke can control/influence any one infected person?
- The Losties splitting up was a little too convenient for my liking. Though it is sort of interesting. All of the Losties are together with a pilot. All of the remaining Others are together with a guy who can talk to the dead. Are we heading towards the ultimate Losties vs. Others battle?
What I'm not sure about:
- What was Desmond's intention in running over Locke. I really liked the parallel between Des being thrown into a well, and Locke being run over. I think the motivations for each will be interesting. Desmond sees Flocke as John Locke, maybe he knew somehow that Locke was going to try and kill him. Or was he trying to get him to Jack?
- The rest of the season. I don't really have any theories or questions, I have no idea where we're ultimately headed. And I couldn't be happier about it.

Well, this was going to happen. Its hard to imagine that the answers we get will be nearly sufficient to support the massive mythology built around them. BSG suffered from the same fate.
People have spent 6 years guessing what all this shit means. To get a relatively simple answer ("We're ghosts unable to leave") could be disappointing to some, especially since that was the obvious, popular guess.
I guess people think this show is beyond what we can guess. So when its something simple like this, a "that's it?" mentality can foster.

I was convinced before that this was Jacob. But the way he was dressed--modern clothes--makes me think that its someone else.
It better not be fucking Aaron, I can tell you that much.

I dont know if he was wearing different clothes or if I just noticed it this time. He was wearing a vest with a metal zipper on it this time, that's for sure.
This is from the casting call for the "Boy in Woods"
The casting call described him as "Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders."[1] (http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Boy_in_the_woods#cite_note-0)

That doesn't sound like Aaron, does it? Of course, how could we know, since Aaron is a fucking 3 year old.
But that sounds like it fits more with Jacob. He's certainly wise beyond his years. And I think the other stuff could fit in with his story as well, maybe that's how he got to the island in the first place and got "put in charge."

Lost: Season 6, Episode 12: "Everybody Loves Hugo"
What I liked about "Everybody Loves Hugo"
-- That finally, after 11 episodes, a flash-sideways story finally mattered. That in of itself is enough to merit an awesome grade.
See, I kind of take issue with this. The flash-sideways have mattered all season long. We just never knew why. Which is pretty much the norm when it comes to this show. I know you are more interested in the on-island events, but to dismiss an entire new story-telling device because you had no idea how it mattered is pretty weak, in my opinion.

That's the problem. The Desmond episode really should've happened early on in the season to give some relevance to the FS. But for the first 10 episodes, we spent half the time in this FS World that we didn't know or care about with characters we didn't really know or care about. There was no relevance. There was no grounding to the story we've been watching for 6 years now. That was my issue with it.

If we the viewer dont know why they matter, than they dont matter. All the other parts of this show that that required long-term patience to understand at least took place in the context of the main story.
This FS storyline introduced bedrock characters living completely different lives, and it came six seasons into the show. Why are we wasting half of 10 episodes on this with no explanation or reason for why we should care?
Sepenwall had it exactly right: they waited way too long to make the Desmond connection, and now all this is going to feel rushed because they need to cram the entire FS resolution into four episodes (6.15 will not have a FS). Not only did they give us something that didnt resonate with the viewer, they waited too long to make us care. IMO, of course.

I'm still of the opinion that the show is more about the characters and their actions/lives than the mythology of the island. I fail to see how anyone can say the FS is a timeline where we don't know the characters or care about them. We've followed those characters for 6 seasons, we have an understanding of who they are and what they have wanted to be, and to see them in another timeline, one that was caused or at least manipulated by an event we saw took place, has been a lot of fun. I knew all along the two timelines were going to come together, so for me, it's been fun seeing how they are coming together.
RJP2741
04-14-2010, 12:02 PM
But those weren't the same characters. The Jack we knew didn't have a son. The Locke we knew wasn't a substitute teacher or engaged, or getting along with his father. The FS characters had different lives and had (seemingly) no recollection of the events of the past 5 seasons. There was no real context to them. Obviously the characters have the same names and are played by the same actors, but the FS versions were completely new and not grounded to the first 5 seasons of the show.
I enjoyed them at first too, it was a cool parallel to past and present on-island events, but it got to be redundant after 3 or 4 of them concluded without any additional plot advancements. I've still enjoyed this season, but I think this was a pretty big miss in terms of how the story of the final season was told.

To me, they might as well have been different characters played by different actors, because there was no connection to the characters that we've grown to know over the previous five seasons. For as much sense at it made, it was like watching a pilot for a new series.
The writers made a colossal mistake waiting this long to connect the two worlds.

Ummmm...going to have to disagree with you there. They were only slightly different but we saw how they changed. We saw redemption. After The Substitute or Dr. Linus we talked about how awesome it was that they were redeemed. I liked Jack's FS too.

Contrast how little we cared that Jack was different in the FS with the emotional and mental satisfaction of seeing him change on-island as a result of his circumstances. That was a payoff.

What does everyone think about what Richard said last night when he asked Hurley to ask Jacob what the island is? He said Jacob told him a while ago what the island is. Yes, the bomb changed the future, in that timeline. In the island timeline, the detonation put the Losties back to 2007. When everyone went back in time to 1977 and detonated the bomb the new timeline was created.
Basically, there are 2 timelines which begin in 1977. One where the bomb went off and one where it didn't. Everything that we know about the characters in the current 2007 timeline is correct and no matter what happened by going back in time it did not affect them as everything that had happeend, happened in that timeline. The sideways timeline is created/altered by the actiuons of the Losties that went back to 77 and detonated the bomb. Therefore, most of those chararcters were either not born or were very young when that bomb was detonated, and the detonation somehow changed those characters to what we see in the sideways timeline.
Does that make sense? Am I thinking of the 2 timelines correctly, or am I way off here?

Am I thinking of the 2 timelines correctly, or am I way off here?
that doesn't add up. if we're to assume that the bomb went off exactly when it did and changed the course of future from that point, then how did people like chang, ben, ben's dad, all survive? also, chang's hand, which was injured right before the bomb went off, wasn't injured last night.

Honestly, why is Frank still on the show? To blindly follow people's orders? The only reason for the writers to keep him around is so that MIB forces Frank to pilot the plane off the island. If that's not the reason for him still being on the show, what is?

Do we know what was in Illahna's pouch last night? The camera focused on Hurley looking into it for a couple of seconds. Also, Hurley's Chicken Posters inside the restaurant have some cool little easter eggs on them!

The only issue is that the sideways timeline had to split off before the bomb was detonated. In the Ben episode this season, it references that he and his father were on the island in that time line as well and left. (His father wonders what would have happened if they hadn't left)
But in the standard time line, Ben's dad would still be on the island and Ben would have been taken by Richard when the bomb went off. So something happened to split the time line earlier, or somehow the bomb made events that happened previously to its expolding change.

Another Biblical thought related to last night's ep:
I was a little perplexed by FLocke's emphasis on Desmond not being afraid... then I remembered this verse.
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18
This seems to bring us back to the "whole point" of the series: true conscious-altering love, which Desmond of course has found.

Yeah, I don't know. The time travel stuff makes my brain hurt. I could be completely wrong in my theory.

The Lapidus character has been completely wasted, as has Miles, Sun, Ilana, and Kate.
Lost has always been about characters, but there are still so many alive, and they have to now share time with flash sideways people, island people, ghosts, Jacobs and MiBs backstories, mythology, and answers. Were in the sixth season and entire characters are not seen for weeks at a time.
Sans Kate, there isn't anyone I want to see killed off, but since we all know peeps are gonna drop, I kinda wish the fat had been trimmed earlier. I don't think miles or frank has had two minutes worth of lines combined all season.
