I was thinking the same thing. During the promos when they said something would be lurking on the island I thought right away a dinosaur of some sort and that it could turn out to be pretty lame. If the show runs for more than a year I bet the creature picks off key characters every season finale.

I like the main character guy, who was in Party of Five and the dude from Lord of the Rings and the dude who was Mercutio in Romeo + Juliet and Oz, but.........I dunno.

I can't decide if I'd rather have the "thing" be a dinosaur or an alien. I don't see how this can be a series either. Like, two seasons, maybe.

ok, yes, the tail thing is wrong, coz my dad is a pilot and we were watching it together and he said that there couldnt have been any survivors if that happened. second, i dont know if this thing is a dinosaur t-rex coz the pilot was fully intact, and spit out, just had blood and his face was all fudged up, so i dont know what that thing is. anyway, yes, when i first saw the previews i thouht it was a movie, which i think would have been better, as stated above, as a multi part movie.

Interesting - I think the most interesting speculation I've heard thus far is that there is no monster/alien/dinosaur but that they are just on a twisted reality show. Ha! That was just somebody on the Alias boards talking, not from any place in print or anything.

Didn't think so. Well, in the first epissode, right after the guy gets sucked into the engine, it goes to a wide shot before the explosion. In the wide shot, some "thing" seems to swoop down from above at exactly the same time. Again, could be nothing, but it is interesting.

Exactly. Some people were saying it was debris flying away, but it's pretty damn obvious it's something coming towards the engine before anything happens. And nothing else seems to be pulled towards the engine besides really small debris until the guy walks in front of it.

I've seen both episodes and have to agree its getting me hooked. The guy playing backgammon is obvioulsy symbolic in one way or another to the story. He is the only one who never said anything till the kid talked to him. I think he symbolizes, at this point, an onlooker, rather than a participant to the crash. I think that he does foreshadow that it is an experiment or something like that. Another idea that they are in the bermuda triangle or something like that came to mind.

I think we learned otherwise tonight. Locke was handicapped and didn't have the use of his legs before the crash. When he woke up on the beach he found that he could wiggle his toes. I guess he's been in a wheelchair for four years.

I can't wait to see next week. I heard they will end up going into some caves or something on the island to get off the beach. Call me crazy but I would keep my happy ass on that beach as long as I could. Whatever is in the forest is not in the ocean!!

Then, he got her to come back to camp and as they were walking back, he looks into the jungle and this guy is standing under/next to a tree. Then, he looks away and looks back and he's gone.

He saw him again and chased after him right before he and Kate found Locke dragging the boar back to camp.

Oh and, NOOOOOOOOO to Kate and AssholeGuy. Yuck. AssholeGuy is gross and creepy. :)

this was Jack's "2nd" episode.....didn't they basically reveal that his dad committed suicide in the 1st one? Maybe i am remembering wrong, but they showed Jack the pills that they found in his dad's hotel room, i thought that's what that was getting at, but i could have been wrong. Then i thought this episode was kinda showing why he killed himself.

Hey all...

Just decided to jump in here and see if anyone had posted anything about "Lost" and was quite pleasantly surprised to read through this thread. :)

Anyway, I've been hooked since day one, and fairly early on I got the impression that they were in purgatory. Since then, I've developed some of my own theories as far as why they're not, so here goes...

1. Food and Water - Might be a very minor element, but do you really think it's realistic to believe that people in purgatory need to eat and drink?

2. The French Woman - This was a big one for me. Her ship wrecked, and the survivors ended up on the island. However, she told Sahid about how she killed all of them because they became "sick." Even if it was her going crazy, it seems pretty unlikely that she would have been able to murder people while in purgatory.

3. Ethan (and the rest of the "they") - Assuming that a group of people could have already existed in purgatory when the Lost crew showed up, the idea that they would be violent is contradictory to the notions of purgatory. Purgatory is a place where the dead absolve their venial sins to get to Heaven, and assuming that God has control, it seems that they would not be there if they were as sadistic as Ethan and the "they" that Charlie spoke of this week.

4. People have died - Kate's "officer" was put out of his misery by Jack after Sawyer shot him. Again, it seems unlikely that people could be killed while in purgatory.

I can't wait for the new episodes to pick up next year. I definitely think this is one of the best shows on television, and to be honest, I feel like we're probably all way off in our theories (which is usually the sign of a well-written show). I think at this point all that is known for sure is that there's something very special about the island, and I for one can't wait to find out what that is.

Ok, I love the show and I enjoy watching it. However, there is one thing that REALLY bothers me. Everytime Locke or Jack head into the woods to find food or to find someone, there is always that person who wants to go with. Then they get into arguement about if that other person should come. This lasts for 10 minutes, until the person says to Locke or Jack, "Too bad, I'm still coming." Why does this happen every fucking episode?

Wow, that was a great episode. Whats up with the toy plane? The first thing I thought of was that Kate was one of the ones that brought the plane down. That doesnt make any sense though. The preview looks really good for next week. I can't wait!

I dont know about LOTR, but Charlie is the guy who was sitting on the beach crying this episode. He called Rose (the big black lady) mommy at the end of this episode.

I found myself saying "yes this show is amazing" out loud a few times during tonights show. I love this show :multi

Yes charlie is played by Dominic Monaghan also known as Merry the hobbit from LOTR.

I don't know about Kate though. Something is really shady about her. It's hard for me to believe that she would have any type of display of emotion especially with her whole past. Maybe the whole crying thing was an act for Jack?
