I was joking and Sosa has never been linked to steroids

Maybe not linked directly, but he somehow forgot how to speak English when he was questioned about them in front of Congress.

That and he used to be about as broad as a tree trunk and get this mad vein in his forehead when he was playing for the Cubs.
That shit ain't natural.

Interesting...he did get huge though. I don't want to go out and accuse him of something when there's no solid evidence, but I would bet that he didn't get that big just by lifting weights and eating egg whites.

devilandthelord

Him and Big Mac were probably swapping pills and taking turns injecting eachother during that summer of 98.

devilandthelord
04-15-2008, 10:07 PM
And Bonds got jealous and wanted a piece of that action.

You bet he did. He got tired of people only noticing all the homeruns and glamour that Big Mac and Sammy had, and they forgot all about his all-around game he had at the time.
So he figured he'd turn himself into a one-dimensional collossus just like they had become.

dmbbearcat
04-15-2008, 10:13 PM
I never liked Barry, because he was always an asshole. But the steroid usage really sealed the deal for me in terms of not liking him. And then he tried to say that he thought the 'cream' that was rubbed on him was massage oil. Bull shit.

What happened to one of our best pen arms? He really needs to get his act together. Especially since Howry will suck till June when his velocity gets up. Even though it wasn't a save, that situation could have snowballed. It was nice to see Wood get in there and dominate.

The win might have come with a price for the Cubs. Leadoff hitter Alfonso Soriano (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6154/) never came to bat after hurting his right vaginal flap when he used his unique hop to catch Ken Griffey’s first-inning fly ball.

It was initially called a tear, but Soriano was having an MRI on Tuesday night and manager Lou Piniella said he didn’t know how long his star will be out.

“It’ll probably be a while,” Piniella said. “If he’s having extended period, it will hurt us.”

We'll survive without Soriano. They going to bring up Matt Murton or just move Johnson to left and let Pie play a little or what?

Ya know I love homers as much as the next guy, but it was nice to see us score a lot of runs without depending that much on the HR.
It was good to see that the bats were really working tonight, because I've seen the Cubs lose a lot of games over the last few years where they've had 3-4 solo homers but still lost.
So it was good to see us pile on without having to play longball to get there.
If that makes any sense.

what was the on field delay??
I was at the game last night, and it was FANTASTIC! It was just constant high fiving everyone around you with the way the Cubs poured it on.

The only on field delay I saw was during Dunn's homerun. As per Wrigley tradition, the opposing teams HR ball is suppose to be thrown back. Well if it did last night or not we may never know. Because it the baseball rain cloud opened up.

Everywhere from the bleachers came all these balls all at once. I'm guessing between 15-20 balls. It was just weird, someone threw the first one and then all these other balls flew in from the bleachers at the same time. But the Cubs outfielders were the ones who pretty much gathered them all up.

I get what you're saying, and I agree. This team does need power though, and no one is more important to that then Derrek Lee. His re-emergence has been FANTASTIC. Lee tore it up in 05' and early 06'. Then he had that injury thanks to Furcal, who we should have signed in that offseason. But he dicked us over last second.

Then he was out for a long time, and then when he came back all that stuff with his daughter happen. His wrist was never 100% in 07' till September. Now this year he's BACK. I think D-Lee is one of the most complete hitters I've ever seen. He's a power hitter, last year his power was gone. Instead of being a K machine, the guy still hit for a high average.

Ramirez has always been a high average, high power, low K hitter. Though not always clutch, he's good. But this year has been so-so thus far. I think Fukudome is everything the rest of the lineup wasn't. He just pulls it all together. I realize I'm rambling, but my point is. I think we'll see A LOT more games like last night this season.

With a healthy Lee, Ramirez you'd expect to be normal, and Fukudome hitting 3-5. We just need good production at the top to make this a scary offense. Sadly at this point I think we're better off without Soriano.

I don't think this includes today's game, but read the last bit about Fuk.

Stark Rumblings & Grumblings
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings

• Fukudome-ville: It didn't take long for Kosuke Fukudome (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=8165)'s new Cubs teammates to figure out he was a way better player than he'd let on while he was hitting .270, with only four extra-base hits, in spring training.

"We're all convinced he was sandbagging everyone in spring training," laughed Mark DeRosa (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6094). "In fact, we were sitting on the plane [leaving Arizona], and Derrek Lee (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5775) said, 'Hey, this guy gets it. I think he's been tricking everyone.' He's been way more than advertised.

"I've gotten to hit behind him a lot, so I've seen it. You know how pitchers have quality starts? He's had quality at-bats 99 percent of the time. He doesn't swing at bad pitches. He's always on base. He's got sneaky power. He can do a lot of things. Chipper [Jones] (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5164) even sent me a text the other day: 'Is it really that easy?' Hey, it is for him."

According to Bill James Online, Fukudome has swung at only 11 pitches all season that were out of the strike zone. Amazing.

The On a Roll Award: It was our good friend John Kruk who picked Cubs matinee idol Derrek Lee (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5775) as his National League MVP this year. But if we had a mulligan, we'd like to officially bop Kruk over the noggin and steal that pick -- because Lee looks as good as any player in the league right now. All he's done over his last 10 games is go 20-for-43 (.465), with five homers, 12 RBIs, 11 runs scored, a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.459 OPS. And in the middle of it, he made a game-saving defensive play with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday. Boy, it's like that Kruk is clairvoyant or something.

About fans throwing balls back:

"There are balls coming from all over the place," Marty [Brennaman] wailed on WLW-AM on Wednesday night. "Left field, center field, right field. ... See, this is the kind of thing, quite honestly right now, that makes you want to see this Chicago Cubs team lose. .. [F]ar and away, the most obnoxious fans in baseball, in this league, are those who follow this team right here. ... You simply root against them. I've said all winter — they talk about this team winning the division — and my comment is, they won't win it because, at the end of the day, they still are the Chicago Cubs, and they will figure out a way to screw this whole thing up."

''I don't know what the creator of the shirt meant this to be, but they should make it right,'' Fukudome said through his interpreter after being shown one of the shirts Thursday. ''Maybe the creator created it because he thought it was funny, or maybe he made it to condescend the race. I don't know.''

Eat it all you Theriot haters.
