You know what I don't get? Why Ozzie and Kenny always complain about the Cubs? Every year they do this, and that's not an exaggerated statement. We don't play in the same league as the White Sox, yet you don't hear Lou or Hendry bring up the White Sox unless it's the cross town series. Anyways did anyone see Ozzie's latest rant? Obviously the Cubs are brought up or I wouldn't post it here.
TORONTO -- Five consecutive losses, something had to give.

It was manager Ozzie Guillen.

Tired of ''all the managers in the press box and at home, watching the game on TV and spilling food on themselves,'' Guillen became the story before a 4-3 loss Sunday to the Toronto Blue Jays. In what never rose to the emotional level of some of his previous rants, Guillen made his feelings known about the perceived treatment he and his organization get in the Windy City.

''Right now, everyone in Chicago is making lineups, 'Call up this guy, call up that guy,''' Guillen said. ''If we had 50 people allowed on the roster, we could do that. That's what ticks me off about Chicago fans and Chicago media -- they forget pretty quick. A couple of days ago, we were the [bleep]ing best [bleep] in town, now we're [bleep].''

Asked why that is, Guillen pulled no punches.

''Because maybe the manager is an ass[bleep],'' he replied.

Guillen said that the only way the perception of the Sox ever would change is by winning, but even after they did in 2005, it hasn't taken long for it to wear off.

''We won it a couple years ago, and we're horse[bleep],'' Guillen said. ''The Cubs haven't won in 120 years, and they're the [bleep]ing best. [Bleep] it, we're good. [Bleep] everybody. We're horse[bleep], and we're going to be horse[bleep] the rest of our lives, no matter how many World Series we win. We are the bitch of Chicago. We're the Chicago bitch. We have the worst owner -- the guy's got seven [bleep]ing rings, and he's the [bleep]ing horse[bleep] owner.''

I just don't get how a professional orginization acts like Jan Brady, and constantly complains about the town's other team. I realize now it will never stop, as it's like part of the orginizational philosophy.

1. Start more games at 7:11
2. Trash talk Cubs
3. Field a baseball team

Then Ozzie's philosphy

1. Trash talk Cubs
2. Threaten to quit if they continue suck
3. Continue to suck, but don't quit
4. Put blame on just not being a good club

Are you shitting me??!??!?! WOW!
Pie is going to be a monster when his bat comes around. Amazing defense, one of the fastest players I've ever seen. What sucks for him is he needs to play everyday. Because he's always been young for every level he's been at. He's always struggled at first, then tore it up.

That's why he couldn't hit shit when he first got to AAA, then last season was hitting in like the .340's. He needs to play everyday, and on a team with championship aspirations, that's hard to do. But there's nothing left for him to prove at AAA.

just got back from st. louis.

it's like another world down there compared to wrigleyville. we stayed right downtown about 6 blocks from the stadium. we got there saturday about 5 minutes after the game ended. if i wasn't a baseball fan, i wouldn't have even known there was a game. no parties. no loud bars. nothing.

sunday i met sintaro and fukudome in the lobby of the hyatt at union station. we walked to the stadium about 2 hours before the game. there were open parking spots. there were lots selling spaces for $3. that's $3. i would say it was 60-40 cards to cubs fan ratio. it's a really pretty staduim, but a much more relaxed atmosphere. soriano still sucked and marquis still leaves pitches over the plate to pujuols.

there was an open bar after the game and there was a fight between a cubs and cardinals fan. scenario: these two guys were piss drunk and having a dance-off competition in the middle of the bar, the cubs fan was attempting a handstand and was kicked over by the cardinal fan while he screamed "derek lee has aids." it was actually pretty funny but the kid got up and threw a punch. then it was just downhill from there.

Yeah, the strike zone in the first 3 innings was very different than later on in the game. That close play with D Lee stretching at firs to catch a throw from Soto the ump clearly messed that up.

my thoughts

Geovany Soto is going to be an all star if he keeps it up. I thought his numbers might have been a little fluky but he is legitimate... The man is our best hitter (strakwise currently)

Felix needs to start everyday. I know some adamantly agree with it but quite frankly he plays the best defense in CF of maybe anyone in the nL right now. His routes are hamrlemss and he might have an amazing arm. His bat WILL come around with consistent at bats. (Really hope he starts this hwole series. Looked good tonight with a BB and a warning track blast.

We need A Ram and if he is not in the lineup than Soto might need to be fourth. In my estimation Soto is the second best hitter for us right now.

Cedeno needs to start over Theriot not only does Cedno have better rnage and an arm but he can hit much better. That being said good game for Riot tonight.

As much as I and the rest of this board has fallen in love with Reed Johnon he is quite frankly not an everyday player. I know his numbers are better than Jacque Jone currently but if yall really dont want to play Pie we should at least consider Jones for CF and platoon them.

Rotation in my mind Z, Lilly, Demp, Lieber, Galagher(was really impressed by Gallagher hitting 95 with regularity and getting ahead of hitters.

Lastcoometn might be time to pull the plug on Wood and consider anybody else in the closers role but Marmolade. Caros is too good for us where he is..

That is all.. Lets get back on track.

Absolutely not. Theriot is proven big league hitter and he plays solid defense. Cedeno may have the arm on him, but that arm is eratic and is good for one crazy overthrow every other week.

Cedeno has hit well as of late, but I don't think he'd be hitting .320 if he had the PA's Theriot does. I like using Cedeno in spot starts at second and short and pinch hitting and running. Plus, as hard as The Riot plays, he's likely to get hurt at some point...

To sum it up, Theriot > Cedeno.

I agree with Pie needing to start, and Cedeno needing more playing time. I do believe Theriot is an everyday player... at second base. As for the rotation, this is the worst one we've had in a while. I also believe it's the reason we're blowing games.

For all the flack the offense gets, there's games where we score 4-5 runs. But because we didn't get a hit with the bases loaded to blow it open, and lose. It's all the offenses fault. Going into one the St. Louis games this offense was averaging 6.2 runs a game. The pitching needs to get better.

While Gallagher is cool, Marshall is the man that deserves a rotation spot. Posted a 3 something ERA last season. Without him we don't win the division last year, he was over looked. Why is he not back in the rotation? Lieber is old and will suck there. At least he was a shut down middle reliever.

Plus Marshall has a 2.70 ERA through 12 games this year. While I wouldn't expect him to throw a no hitter as a starter. He never was horrible either. If they can't get Lilly on track. Marshall and Dempster could hold this rotation together.

I would be ok with moving Theriot to second, but he has to be in the lineup. He is too much of an OPS guy to not be.

And I totally agree about Marshall. We're wasting starts right now with some of these guys.

I'd like the rotation as:
1. Z
2. Lilly
3. Dempster
4. Marshall
5. Marquis

That looks pretty solid.

And call me crazy, but I'm still a believer in Rich Hill. I think he can be successful at the big league level.

If Eyre is in, Pie could go to Iowa

CINCINNATI -- Trying to solve some of their recent pitching problems, the Cubs might carry a 13th pitcher temporarily, manager Lou Piniella said.
Left-hander Scott Eyre, who has been on the disabled list with an elbow injury since spring training, is expected to return from a rehab assignment this week, possibly by the end of the series in Cincinnati.

That will allow the Cubs to stretch out Sean Marshall -- currently the only lefty in the bullpen -- in preparation for a possible start in the wake of Rich Hill's demotion to the minors over the weekend.

''Losing Hill is a bigger blow than people think,'' Piniella said. ''We were talking about a young pitcher here we penciled in for 15 wins or so and 200 innings, and that's not easy to replace. Let's hope he gets himself straightened out and quickly.''

A 13th pitcher likely would mean a demotion for struggling center fielder Felix Pie to continue work on mechanics changes Piniella and the staff are trying to make with him.

I agree with this, I do like Theriot's numbers. I think he'd actually be better offensively if he was a second basemen. It's a well known fact Theriot sucked balls down the stretch last year.

There's always been questions about his body holding up as an everyday shortstop. I think he'd hold up at a less demanding position. That translate to better numbers from his bat down the stretch.

:thumbsup :thumbsup Couldn't agree more.

Oh I agree he's earned a spot to play in the bigs, but is it really good to keep a young guy on the bench and rarely play him? I just don't like to see young guys ride the pine. I would rather him start everyday in the majors but Lou doesn't seem to agree.

My dream is someone is desperate and offers a good SP for like Soriano and DeRosa/Fotenot. Put Reed Johnson in LF, and Pie in CF. Also open up that log jam in the middle infield.

That's a cool stat, Soto has missed the cycle by a triple 3 times so far this season. I know we haven't seen him for a whole season, but when's the last time we had a catcher this good? He hit .389 last season, and .352 so far this season. His career batting average is .341 through 59 games.

This doesn't include him going 1 for 4 tonight, but heading into tonight: In Pie's last 11 games, he batted .333 (8-for-24) with a homer, double and seven RBIs.

Also on the play Pie robbed Griffey of a homer: Pie's catch was impressive, and the No. 1 play on ESPN's SportsCenter that night. He didn't know that until teammate Ryan Theriot told him on Tuesday.

Even though he went 1 for 4 tonight. He's been really driving the ball to the warning track. Hopefully those start turning into doubles and homers. Because before he wasn't making contact and driving the ball. He was striking out, and popping out.

Zambrano looked GREAT tonight. Getting a lot of ground balls and pop outs. 5-1, 38 K's, 14 BB's, 1.80 ERA, those are damn good numbers, and he would be 6-1 if not for that blown game last week. Too bad the defense and bullpen are really inconsistent.

Also Soriano only went 2 for 5, but he seems to be getting better swings every day, maybe finally coming around. Plus, once he gets comfortable in left, he really is an asset. With all the talk about his terrible defense, it's easy to forget how many outfield assists he had last year.

compete in the playoffs? Or against the Cards? The Cubs are in a slump, and only 3 games out of the best record in baseball. Not to mention they still have the number 1 scoring offense in the MLB. Plus before the Mets got Santana they were the NL favorite in Vegas to reach the World Series.

The Cubs also boasted the NL's 2nd best ERA last season. If Rich Hill and Lilly get their acts together (I'm not worried yet, it's early May). With the bullpen better then ever, there's no reason the Cubs won't compete in the division, or in the playoffs. The Cards will always be competitive with the one man offense in Pujols.

okay sweet, how many of the last 10 world series have the people in vegas picked correctly? so that's pretty stupid to try and make a point about. i'm not saying they aren't good, but from the start this season they haven't been impressive. the cardinals are impressive only because what everyone expected them to be, dead last.

and you really think cardinals are a one man offense? that's ridiculous. he walks at least once eveyr game and most of the time twice so it's not like he's up there swinging. in baseball it's impossible to have a one man offense. schumaker, ankiel, duncan? the one thing about the cardinals is that our whole team is young and we won't lose very many games this year with out a fight. everyone is fighting for their spots.

Ok, Mark Prior not pitching this year is in now way a surprise. His shoulder has been messed up since 05' which is when he should of had the surgery. The Cubs just shut him down instead of doing anything. So he sucked balls in 06' and in 07' they finally said "Lets figure out what's wrong with him."

They got one of the best doctors in the world to go check out his shoulder, and then fix it up. It was said then, that he probably wouldn't be ready till mid season this year. But that when he does come back, there's no reason he can't be Mark Prior of ol'. Prior's rehab has been going great form what I've heard. Should be pitching Juneish. He probably could already, but they aren't going to rush him.

Yeah I thought I might have been coming in town this weekened but the reason that I needed to come in was canceled. Sadly that means no Wrigley games for me this year again and only getting to see them when they play the Giants out here.

Well that sucks, man.
I am going friday instead of saturday as I thought earlier in the week, but I think it actually works out better because friday is supposed to be beautiful, whereas saturday is supposed to be rainy.

At least you'll be supporting them in San Fran. Maybe you'll get on WGN or Comcast if you wear your cubs gear, cuz they always put cubs fans in visiting stadiums on TV during breaks in the action and such.

Last year was ridiculous. There were more Cubs fans then Giants fans I think.

So now we've lost what, four straight series?

Nationals, Brewers, Cards and now the Reds. We're playing very mediocre baseball right now. We're better than this.

Our starting pitching stinks and we need to either shake it up with the farm system or the bully or make a move. Our offense is dang good but it can only carry us so far.

saygdbye4134
05-08-2008, 09:31 AM
but the problem is Royce, our offense hasn't been that great at all.

in the last 7 games, we have scored 3 runs or more once. we also have 5 losses in those 5 games.

i was at a bar earlier tonight and I was watching espn but I couldn't hear the t.v. and all I kept seeing was them replaying a clip from the Cubs game where some bleacher bum threw what looked like a watermelon onto the field while someone was trying to throw to home. Now is that all that happened or... what was the big deal with that? Why did they keep replaying it so many times ?

I don't know, but all I know is that I was laughing at the idiot bleacher bums every time they replayed it.
