:thumbsup Absolutely.
I hope Hendry isn't too proud to admit his mistake. He tried a flyer on Edmonds, it didn't work out. Let's move on. Ward is about to come off the DL and we need room for his bat. Drop Edmonds.
Not after today. I guess all of us Edmonds naysayers should shut up. Without his 3 big RBI's we wouldn't have won today (altho without that error we might've saved a few runs from being put up against us).

Podsednik always owns us, I don't know how. Thank God for Fukudome. That play saved the game for us. Also, I know they didn't put in Kerry because he's been in so many games lately, but the same can be said for Marmol. I was a little worried, to be honest. He's thrown in 3 of the last 4 games and 6 of the last 8. Give him a rest. Too bad there was really nobody left that we could trust in that spot.

Lily has his ups and downs but lately this year Marquis just play sucks.
Though you have to consider that Marquis REALLY hasn't gotten much run support this year. It feels like he has a 2 to 1 lead in the fifth, and then he finally breaks down and gives up 3 or 4 runs. If he has a lead, he's a manageable starter.

What's the verdict on Gallagher? I like him a whole lot, but I think he needs a bit more work. I could see him moving up a spot in the rotation, and us finally replacing that worthless hump Marquis with someone in Triple-A.

The verdict on Gallagher for me is that he is going to be a helluva pitcher in the majors. He has an extremely good minor league track record. THe only reason he wasnt an uber prosp[ect was because of the fact that he had a little too much weight. However he took the weight off and added four miles to his fastbal;l in the process. I believe he was a Baseball America top 100 prospect and he was number 5 for the Cubs. He will be a good one. He probably has the ceiling of a good #2 pitcher. I dont think he will be leaving the rotation anytime soon..
He is also younger than me (22) so he only has room to improve. As far as his outing today. He seemed to get ahead of a lot of hitters and then was just not completely finishing them off. He will get better at it. He has a good FB, curve and change. Thank god we didnt give him up for Brian Roberts.... He was the main piece.

He's not a number 4 starter if he still "needs more work." Right now, he's a sufficient #5 starter. Marquis would also do "okay" as a #5 starter if we can't find anyone else, but that's the problem. We have two #5 starters that you can't really trust to give you a lot of innings.

I agree with this. Today he looked really good at the start of the game, but he just has a really hard time finishing guys off and getting quick, easy outs. That's going to be a problem for him in the long run, especially when facing teams with hitting better than the lowly Rockies. He got a number of 0-2 or 1-2 counts that went full; and a couple of 20+ pitch innngs. You're going to feel the pressure if you do that a lot, even if you get out of it. On top of that he has location issues sometimes, and even though he didn't give up any walks today, he hit 2 guys. He has a great fastball, and he was throwing itl very well today, but it seemed like nobody was being fooled by his curve or any of his other pitches.
And even though his location isn't really top notch, when he missed today he missed well out of the zone or in bail-out spots, unlike Marquis, who misses right over the heart of the plate A LOT when he starts heading south.

The Cubs entered June with the best record in baseball for the first time since 1908, when they last won a World Series. They started the new month by finishing a four-game sweep of the defending National League champions and sending them to their seventh straight loss.
Chicago is 26-8 at Wrigley Field after wrapping up its first perfect homestand of at least seven games since April 14-26, 1970. Now, they'll try to establish some momentum away from home.
- Ron and Pat said that the last time the Cubs started off this good at home was also a 26-8 start. So we need one more to top that, the 26-8 start happened when you might ask? 1918.

unlike kerry wood he knew that he took money from us and then decided to jump away as soon as possible instead of taking an incentive laden deal this offseason. Not to mention when we sent him to AAA at the end of Spring training he made the comment that he is just a regular employee. He was basically begging to go to San Diego as early as last year. Not to mention potential tampering with him and Kevin Towers

23 of the next 32 on the road. time to show what we're made of. the way i figure it, though, is if we go 7-2 at home and .500 on the road, we'll still be sitting pretty. but i don't want that. it's time to dominate. i want to be 20+ games over .500 by the all-star break.

Here's the thing:
I interned with the Red Sox last year, so I was fortunate enough to be there from Day 1 and see how their season went (To clarify, I'm born & raised in the burbs of Chicago). So as a die-hard Cubs fan, I was NOT used to seeing a team be 15 over .500 going into June.
Last year, the Red Sox had almost the same record (maybe a little better) than the Cubs do right now. I remember Boston was 19 over .500 at the 1/2 way mark, and finished the season 30 over .500.
So, what does this all mean for the Cubs? As of right now, things are good. Like the Red Sox last year, this Cubs team scores first, and scores early. And that is MASSIVE for winning games. On top of which, the Cubs are the highest scoring team in baseball right now, just like the Red Sox were last year. Also, out of nowhere, the Cubs' bullpen has been pretty damn strong with only a few hiccups. Okijimia & Marmol are one in the same. And Papelbon may have the edge to Wood, but they're both pretty dominate. While it seemed like having so many home games in April & May would hurt because of the weather, it ended up being huge because they had 2 months with a ton of home crowds backing them up (Yes, I know people say that doesn't matter in baseball).
As of right now, the Cubs are 15 over .500. Look at it this way: If they played .500 ball over the next 2 months, they'd be 15 over .500 going into August. I'll take that any day of the week. Things are looking pretty good, but like any true Cubs fan, don't get your hopes up too soon. The Baseball Gods are a fickle bunch, so take it a day at a time. But right now, these guys are the real deal.

This guy is the definition of productivity.
He's 1-1, with a an RBI sac fly, a walk and a run scored.
So he got on base twice, scoring one of those times, the only time he makes an out he knocks in the go-ahead run.
Love this guy.

Good to see a comeback on the road. They really need this game to get past their road struggles.
They need to win road series, we keep blowing the ones we should win. It's a problem in both leagues. Look at the top 15 teams in baseball and their road records.
1. Chicago Cubs (37-21); Road Record: 11-13
2. Tampa Bay (35-22); Road Record: 11-12
3. LA Angels (34-24); Road Record: 16-11

14. Milwaukee (30-28); Road Record: 13-18

Holy shit, that game was insane. I'm glad we have Zambrano on our team. Even when he struggles he finds a way to get hard-earned outs and he does it with his bat as well. Great hustle on that triple and the bunt hit.
But damn, Marmol. Dude needs more than just 1 day of rest, Lou. Should never have left him in for the 9th. Give Eyre something to do. I mean, really, that pitch to Gonzalez was a neck-high fastball, threw it just about where he wanted it, he just didn't have enough pace on it. And Kerry Wood is a lucky man. That was a terrible last pitch, he's lucky that that ballpark is not conducive to home runs because I thought that one was gone off the bat.
Whatever, a win is a win. 'Twas way too close, though.

yes our bullpen is taxe we needed a thirteenth arm. we dont have a day off for a while and we need to not throw marmol and wood and howry every day... thats whats going on. Also i think Lou feels confident enugh with Z and Maqquis pinch hitting.

Hey guys, read the headline of the first shot on cubs.com too,
"Wuertz wants to be better for surging Cubs"
:lol , thats like him saying, "I know I suck and my team is awesome and I keep fucking things up, so I'm really gonna try and get with the program guys. Sorry."
Well, here's hoping!
On another note, UCFish and gocubsgo, where's the VIP lot?
I'll be at at Toyota for sure, and would love to hang out and talk some cubs and some DMB with you guys.
If you've been in the Toyota thread, ants is having a big tailgate under Saxlover's Colorado Buffalo flag.
Are you guys gonna be somewhere else?

Bleh....after drinking luxury beer all night...man, switching to Beast Light for the first time in a month kinda sucks.
You're not making me feel any better Ted....
I was supposed to be watching the Stanley Cup again with this girl, but where we were going fell through. So now I'm here...watching the Pens lose on one channel, and watching Ted Lilly get ready for another embarassment to chalk up on my fantasy team. Mmmm...man I wish I had some Jimmy John's right now. A #2 roast beef. Yummmmmmm....

So did I. But then I realized that down in Illinois, Jimmy John's was $4.69 for the small sub. Up in Whitewater? $3.75. That's not a bad price at all.
Subway and Cousin's both have their moments, what it really boils down to for me is whether the bread is really good. That's what seperates them.

Not quite sure about the VIP lot yet. I think it will be a crap shoot. We will be at Alpine also. I will be at WPB, Dallas, Raley, Gorge, and Greek as well.

how would yall feel on maybe bringing maddux back if he is available at the deadline.. i think part of the reason his numbers are so good is that he plays at Petco... but he also throws strikes and is better than Marquis
