It's sure nice to watch ESPN and see baseball highlights. Especially when the Cubs win. Lilly will need to pitch well this year, and this was a good start. You know there will be a lot of scoring this year. All depends on whether a couple of guys can have big years on the pitching staff.

my dad and i were talking about that last night since the Reds have Alex Gonzalez (not the former Cub, the former Marlin from that 2003 team, but he still reminded us of the latter). Gonzo is so lucky that Bartman got all the attention because if not he would be the goat and go down in history as another Bill Buckner. Bartman got all the shit when in reality he didn't cost the Cubs that game, Gonzo did when he botched that double-play ball. fuck....

This guy I used to work with, his brother used to work with Bartman at some consulting firm up until a couple years ago, and he was telling me how Bartmans life has just sucked ever since 2003. He still gets harrased when he goes out and hes even lost friends over the whole thing. Yet he still lives on the north side. I dont know why the moron hasnt just moved to another state or at least on the south side.

Yeah, just keep playing in that decrepit old shithole. Yeah, its got character and charm, big deal. The Cubs need new digs. You think in 20 years that place will still be inhabitable? How about 50? It's gonna have to be replaced sooner or later, Cubs fans need to stop worrying so much about the ballpark and start worrying about the team.
I suppose it makes sense though, the Cubs do like to keep broken down relics of back when they almost won something, like Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.

I am comfortable in the summer in Milwaukee too. I will also be comfortable tonight, when it is 30 degrees outside with an even lower windchill. Not to mention when it is pouring rain...or worse, blowing snow. The sight lines are better and the seats are all facing the field. It's a nice place to see a game, I promise. The biggest difference is that we have a tradition of 6 years of losing at our park, and you have a tradition of 100 years of losing in yours.

Even though the Cubs did lose the series...I liked how they were getting production out of their 7 and 8 hitters in Izturis and DeRosa. Wow the building debate is a little deeper than i thought.
Basically what I feel, an di think id speak for the majority of cubs fans. As long as you keep the scoreboard, the ivy covered brick outfield wall (even if it is farther out or added onto) and the big Wrigley sign on the front youd have a happy fan base with a new stadium and a great place to watch games with that wrigley feel still.
But that place isnt gonna get fixed anytime soon, becuase the neightbors are assholes and wont let the tribune (or who ever now) buy up their block to expand the stadium, if the new owners can do that then Wrigley would be a top competator in comfort and quality.

:thumbsup

Yeah dude. I paid $118 dollars for the season to watch Cubs games.
Apparently I didn't read the fine print that said "oh hey BTW... we blackout weekend day games for no apparent reason. And chances are you'll probably find many more games blacked out than you originally thought b/c they're nationally televised (which they're NOT in Boston b/c no WGN). But hey, thanks for all your money."
I did check gameday often during the game and caught replays, and I'm so upset I missed such a great game :(

And it isnt a dome. When the weather gets nice the roof opens and we play outside.

Your kiddign yourself if you think that isnt a dome type stadium, while its amazingly nice, that roof blocks so much wind that its almost not an issue.
And there is not one person in here that wouldnt love to see Wrigley torn down, the blocks around it bought up, and re built to better house the fans, while keeping some of the historical aspects of it.

I'll take nostalgia and tradition over a new "modern" ballpark any day. Give me the piss troughs and the old scoreboard. It's what makes going to Wrigley fun. I live in a completely modern society 24/7, why would I need it to be the same at a baseball game?
If they want to add-on, or redo some parts go ahead. But tearing it down and starting over? Blasphemy.

just having this discussion with my step-dad yesterday. keep the bleachers since they were pretty much rebuilt already, keep the score board (it's landmarked as it is so they couldn't tear it down with out a legal fight), rebuild the grandstands and just tack up the old marquee when it's done. let's be honest, the grand stands are dumpy, the outside of the stadium is less than aesthetically pleasing, and although i personally enjoy the piss troughs, they are kinda scary for the uninitiated. the great things about wrigley are the ivy, the scoreboard, the bleachers, the neighborhood, and the sight lines of the neighborhood rooftops and the lake beyond. as long as they don't move or tear down the bleachers, they can do what ever they want.
The only issue would be where they could play for a season while they gutted and rebuilt the grandstands. My dad suggested Miller Park and I thought they could probably retrofit Soldier Field for a season of baseball. I think the Cell would be out of the question, though.
ps - Good news! The Cubs won't lose today!!!

I suggested turning Wrigley into a Cubs Hall of Fame, make it a museum of sorts. See if you can buy up some of the land in the area and build a New Wrigley somewhere nearby in the neighborhood. Hell, if you could get public funding for the stadium you might be able to get the land via emminent domain, but it would be litigated to hell and back before you could start digging.
I havent been to Wrigley in years, but if it is possible to keep the outfield section (scoreboard, bleachers, wall/ivy) while destorying the rest and then rebuilding it bigger and better I think that would be a good idea too. You'd likely need more space than you have now, but obviously not nearly as much you'd need to get a new park.
The thought of a Cubs home game at Miller Park makes me want to vomit. See if Soldier can host for a year.
^ cub games at miller are already almost like a home game. and by the way the asshole that live in wrigleyville will never ok a new field, it took for ever to get the bleachers expanded.

There is plenty of room, it they can fit a spaceship in between the columns at Soldier Field, they could do it at Wrigley. Hopefully not a spaceship, though. There is a players parking lot and an old doughnut shop next to Wrigley on Clark, which would afford them enough room.

I like the Brewers, grew up going to County Stadium more than Wrigley. That response has nothing to do with being a Cubs fan, it has do with the fact I just don't like your condescending attitude – which stems back to the football season when you invaded the Bears thread and claimed to be there for discussion when it was pretty obvious you were only there to trash the team, the fans, and the organization. Which is fine, I suppose, but here you are again, invading another Chicago thread trying to tell us all that Wrigley is a dumb and saying all Cubs fans are “collar-popping douchebags”. We get it; you don’t like Chicago sports teams. I don’t like the Packers very much and aside from the occasional, “Packers suck,” comment in their thread (all in fun), I stay out of there because I’m really not interested in the discussion. Perhaps you need to create a Brewers thread? Hell, I’ll do it for you; I am a Brewers fan after all.

Trash talking is one thing. I was at a game at Old County stadium when I was younger. I was sitting in the bleachers and witnesses a guy there with his 7-8 year old son, in the front row of the bleachers watching the game. 3 cub fans taunted the poor guy for 5 innings while the guy tried to ignore the game and pay attention to his kid. They were calling him a faggot, loser, etc etc to the point the kid was in tears. They eventually dumped a beer on him from behind and the guy and his kid left.

Sox fans were the same way before they won. Now all of a sudden they finally have an excuse to be douchebags. Congratulations on your world series...that's great...but MY GOD about 80% of Sox fans I know are all cocky bastards.

:lol i've never met one who is even indifferent about the cubs. every one of them hates us. hate has become fashionable. back in the day i would root for the sox and cubs. hell we never played each other. they think they are more baseball savy because they cheer for a team that isn't as poplular as the other, but in reality they hate to compensate for the lack of love they receive.

White Sox fans are so elitist most of the time its not even funny. That they are "better" fans because they only go to games when the team is good.

I still say the worst bandwagon fans are the Marlins. I can not express how much 2003 sucked when I was going to college in Florida and all of these assholes started pulling out their 1997 Marlins World Series shirts and acting like they were fans.

If that's the case, then we have to wait until 2045 for that curse to be lifted. Mr. Sianis didn't say "the Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more" until game 4 of the 1945 World Series.....we've got a while to wait still.

Bob Brenly and Len Casper are so annoying. Speaking of apologists, that is Bob Brenly right there. The guy tells his boring fucking stories throughout the telecast, and when something bad happens, he makes excuses for whomever made a mistake.

Rich Hill is going to be GOOD though. Everyone stopped paying attention at the midway point, but in the second half of the season he was awesome. I had skybox tickets to a game where he was pitching and he was making guys look silly with his curve, he had 10+ strikeouts. He'll be good, trust me.
So far so good. He walked 4 today, but those are his first 4 walks all year (0 BBs in spring training). Career 3 to 1 K/BB ratio ain't too shabby. Him and Ted Lilly are the key to the season.
