I know, dude. Len said last night that he was going to grow a mustache if they won 10 straight. That would've been hilarious.

But hey, Greg Maddux is the one guy I don't mind losing to.

Did anyone see the poll they had on WGN tonight? About who the fans' favorite Cubs pitcher was of the last 40 years? Big Z beat out both Sutcliffe and Maddux. That's just crazy talk, IMO.

On Sportscenter, Linda Cohn just said that the Cubs are off to a 39-20 start. How is it possible that ESPN can't get things right? Nothing pisses me off more than the media screwing up simple facts that you can find in hundreds of places if you just took time to look. I'd love to be off to 39-20, but 38-22 is where I want to be since Linda Cohn can't get anything fucking right!!!

I wish we would have gotten a second shot at Khalil Greene after he opted to go back to Clemson. His BA is shitty right now, but he will come out of it and he has a fucking cannon from short.

I also hope this TCU kid doesn't end up a Prior or Wood case. I know Woody has been doing well, but they thought he would be a devastating starter when he was drafted.

Listen to me, all doom and gloom. I should be positive, but this team has broke my heart so many times in the past. It does feel like they are doing the right things to be successful, though. We look good so far and I hope the team continues to perform the way it has been.

Anyone gonna be around watching the game tonight? I'm really pulling for Gallagher to give us another solid start, and hopefully more than 5 innings. LA's Kuroda has been pretty solid so far this year so it might be another close game tonight. We shall see, though. Last time out was his worst start of the year against the Mets.

Gallagher's got good stuff, but we need to see some quicker, easier outs tonight. His long, long innings last time were hard to sit through, and it'd be nice to see him not have to labor so much out there.

Robby1870
06-06-2008, 11:15 PM

Bron Yr Aur
06-07-2008, 01:27 AM
Kevin Hart is in a gots-to-go situation. He comes in and gives up a hit and walk in the first two batters. That ain't going to get it done. However, Lou taking out Gallagher was a terrible move. Sure his spot was leading off the 6th, but he just came off the best inning he had pitched all night and was under 90 pitches I think. I don't get it. It won't matter, though, if we get no offense, because our hitters are looking awful tonight. That 1st and 3rd with no outs was the big moment of the game. We had a chance to rattle Kuroda a bit and just let him off the hook.

Robby1870
06-07-2008, 01:57 AM
Kuroda has our number tonight. Might as well let him go for a complete game. None of our hitters have looked like they even had a chance. Some awful swings on his breaking pitches.

You know, I have to feel bad for Soriano, because I think he'd never been on the DL before the Cubs signed him, and now this will be his 3rd and longest stay. Just terrible luck. At least Pujols will miss some time, too. But really, Soriano just wants to go out there and play and help the team, and he plays hard. Sure he strikes out a lot, but he's a catalyst for the team at the top of the order.

However, I think the Cubs shouldn't have a hard time surviving. They've gotta bring Hoffpauir back up before Pie and Murton, because he's the only one out of the three that has shown he can do a little something in the big leagues. Murton has had a terrible season, and at this point, it's hard to see Pie ever being more than a .230 or so hitter. But I think we might see DeRosa out there in left a little to get Ronny Cedeno some more starts. He really hasn't gotten enough appearances lately and I think his hitting is suffering from not seeing enough major league pitching.

Also, I think Dempster might be my favorite Cub player right now. The guy works harder than just about anyone, and like Zambrano, he's competitive and really just wants to carry the team to some success. You can tell he hates giving up runs even when the team is in the lead, and the Cubs probably wouldn't be leading the division without him starting.

I think the CC Sabathia talk might subside a bit with this. With Soriano out, the good young players are going to be needed even more to make up for the loss, and will be much less tradeable. Plus, it's not like CC has been that great this year. He still has a 4+ ERA and has had a few rough outings recently. I don't think it's worth it really. Even with the inconsistency of Marquis and Lilly, they've both shown good things lately.

The only Ginger I want on my team right now is Demps.

What beast! Complete game, 11Ks.

The only thing I hope is if he has another night like this where he's cruising and we have a big lead they take him out in the 7th or 8th just to save his stamina cuz he hasn't started in years.
And as good as he's been I don't want him tiring out later in the year or the playoffs.
It is nice to be able to rest the bullpen, and he was fantastic.

That's an interesting idea, because Johnson is so good in the outfield. However, they are going to bring up someone to play LF, and I can see them putting in DeRosa there every so often, too, to get Cedeno some more starts. I mean, honestly, who would you rather have playing, DeRosa or Johnson? No question it's DeRosa. He's been one of our best hitters all year.

The problem with this is that we have literally no speed besides Theriot with this lineup. Which is why I would recommend trying DeRosa in left and Cedeno at 2nd. Plus, Cedeno has proved he can hit in the big leagues over a much longer period of time than Hoffpauir. Of course, you still bring up Hoffpauir and try it. But I think it's time that Ronny got more of a shot.

Also, I think Soto has to hit behind Ramirez; Edmonds would still be too much of a weakness behind Aramis.

Wait so you don't think Murton a .295 career hitter, and someone who's never had an OBP below .350 has shown nothing at the big league level? He's only had 8 games and 14 AB's this year (mostly as a pinch hitter), so I wouldn't call it a bad season.

How you could not want a Cy Young winner who's still young on this team blows my mind. Sabathia on his best day might be even better then Zambrano. His last two seasons he's had a 3.22 and a 3.21 ERA in the AL, and a 4 ERA in the AL isn't as bad as we think of it in the NL. Sabathia as the number 2 would give us a real playoff rotation. The wheels could fall off at any moment for Dempster. If he kept it up, he'd be an elite 3. In the playoffs we could have:

1. Zambrano
2. Sabathia
3. Dempster
4. Lilly

The guy who had as your #2 starter would go into the playoffs as your #4. If he was pitching good by then, it just be a very very very scary team. That rotation plus our offense. With a Wood and Marmol in the playoffs equals anything is possible. Though I've been out of town, how serious are these rumors about Sabathia?
