Wait so you don't think Murton a .295 career hitter, and someone who's never had an OBP below .350 has shown nothing at the big league level? He's only had 8 games and 14 AB's this year (mostly as a pinch hitter), so I wouldn't call it a bad season.

How you could not want a Cy Young winner who's still young on this team blows my mind. Sabathia on his best day might be even better then Zambrano. His last two seasons he's had a 3.22 and a 3.21 ERA in the AL, and a 4 ERA in the AL isn't as bad as we think of it in the NL. Sabathia as the number 2 would give us a real playoff rotation. The wheels could fall off at any moment for Dempster. If he kept it up, he'd be an elite 3. In the playoffs we could have:

1. Zambrano
2. Sabathia
3. Dempster
4. Lilly

The guy who had as your #2 starter would go into the playoffs as your #4. If he was pitching good by then, it just be a very very very scary team. That rotation plus our offense. With a Wood and Marmol in the playoffs equals anything is possible. Though I've been out of town, how serious are these rumors about Sabathia?

I'm not saying we don't think about it, but it depends on what we have to give up. The depth of our bench with our quality young players is what has really been the backbone of this team. I mean, if we had to give up Soto or Theriot or really any of our starters, I just don't see it, because who knows if Sabathia will be consistent this year.

Also, as for Murton. He had a bad spring training and didn't show anything early in the year. He was even struggling to get extra base hits in the minors. However, they brought up two guys, and he should've come up with Hoffpauir instead of Patterson, that's for sure. We can't have someone who's going to hit .200 leading off.

Those first 2 are rough, but both Gallagher and Marquis have pitched well lately. So we'll see.
The BlueJays are not a great team, and they play in a dome, which should be good for our power hitters.
So I see no reason why we can't at least win or even sweep the series.

Cubs looking for arms
The Chicago Cubs are looking for a boost in their starting rotation and have let the San Diego Padres know that they are interested in pursuing starting pitchers Randy Wolf or Greg Maddux, reports ESPN's Peter Gammons.

The Cubs have also let the Seattle Mariners know that they are interested in Erik Bedard if he becomes available.

Burnett would welcome a trade to Cubs
With the Toronto Blue Jays expected to shop A.J. Burnett over the next several weeks leading up to the trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs could be a possible destination, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Blue Jays are most likely looking for middle-infield help, and while it is not known whether the Cubs have the pieces to pull off a deal, Burnett has stated publicly that he would welcome a trade to the Windy City.

Burnett has $30 million left on his current contract and can opt out after this season.

Randy Wolf - 3.83 ERA, 5-4 Record, 1.23 WHIP (31 years old)

Greg Maddux - 3.31 ERA, 3-5 Record, 1.22 WHIP (42 years old)

Erik Bedard - 4.14 ERA, 4-4 Record, 1.35 WHIP (29 years old)

A.J. Burnett - 4.90 ERA, 6-6 Record, 1.51 WHIP (31 years old)

Honestly I really want Bedard or Maddux. Bedard isn't having his best year, but he's not a good team. A 4.14 ERA in the AL would translate to the 3's in the NL. Maddux ERA might go up a little bit outside of Petco, but how great would it be for Maddux to pitch in the playoffs for the Cubs?

Exactly. I'm hoping we can really get to Kazmir early, break his confidence, get him out of there and get into their bullpen early and tire them out for the rest of the series.
