Ohhhhh God.
I got my cable hooked up on friday, and got to watch them call today's game on comcast.
Every fucking time the ump calls a ball against the sox, they're like "Awww c'mon! That was clearly a strike!" Or something like that.
Or they talk about how if something wouldn't have happened a certain way the Sox would be killing them.
There's way more, way worse. Like seriously half a dozen examples every inning.
But the best was the 4th inning today when we were stomping the living shit out of them.
Most of that inning was dead silence. Then just saying the score.
No praise for the Cubs. Mostly silence. :lol
And thats why I love Len and Bob on comcast and the WGN boys. Even though we might be loosing and they are die-hard cubs fans, if the opposing team makes an outstanding play, or a great inning pitched they give the credit where it is due. Its class act announcing.

And its not just cuz they work for the Sox.
I have listened to many hometown broadcasters from different teams and none of them are like this.
Hawk and DJ are just truly horrible.

Hawk and DJ just refuse to give credit where it's due, and I happen to think they lack class. I mean, try watching the Cardinals broadcasters during a Cubs/Cards game. Even Al Hrabosky, who you know hates the Cubs with a passion, will acknowledge the team when they are performing well. I'm glad to see others think the same way towards those guys.

I actually turned on the Sox telecast during the 9-run inning yesterday. It was eerily quiet because they couldn't find anything to blame it on.

I know! It was one of the weirder things I've ever seen during a baseball game. Never have I seen a 9-run inning in which almost nothing is said by the broadcasters. Its like they're mic's were turned off or they left the booth for a period of time.
Rediculous.

But in a way, it fits the organization. You have the GM Ken Williams calling out the Cubs, all of Ozzie's childish confrontations, and a couple of temperamental announcers. Inferiority complex, anyone?

I'm pretty sure most announcers, especially on ESPN, are completely against all chicago sports BESIDES the white sox for some reason.
The Bears and The Cubs get more shit and the least amount of respect from everyone. Noone takes them seriously even when they're doing awesome.

Some cool stuff about Edmonds as pertains to today's game.
First off, before that at-bat, he was batting .370 in the month of June with 3 homers.
Second, he is 8-17 against Vazquez lifetime.
And he has done almost all of his damage against righties this year.
4 of his 5 HRs and 21 of 22 RBI come against RH pitchers.
Edit: Hat trick. Hello?

I liked the difference between the reactions of Zambrano and Pierzynski to booing fans. AJ got angry, as we know, but here was Zambrano's take:
''Sometimes I'm in the outfield, and they say, 'Hey, you!' and bad words. 'You're a homosexual!' I say, 'Well, I'm going to show them if I'm a homosexual on the mound.' That's kind of like the good feelings between the Cubs and Sox.'' :lol

I worry about it though, with him being a reliever the last few years, how his arm and body will react when he reaches about 150-ish innings pitched.
If he can pitch like has so far all season though, I would say he would be our MVP.

No reason for Demps to be out there right now.
I mean, I respect and like the fact that he wants to go out there and finish the job, but he did great, and already had a complete game 2 weeks ago.
I'd rather just sit him down, tell him how good he did and pat him on the back.
Rather than him go out there and throw more pitches and risky anything trying to gut out the complete game.
Don't agree with this.

But can we just go ahead and confirm that Hawk and DJ are THE WORST and MOST BIASED announcers in all of MLB?
Jesus Christ, its not even funny. Its disgusting listening to them.
They both need to get fired.
Besides the fact that they are absolutely awful, all home-team announcers are biased. Who cares? It's not like they are on a neutral network like ESPN. They should be biased; personally, I want the announcers to be rooting for my team on my local station.
That said, they are still awful. DJ is boring, but ok; Hawk just bitches and moans about balls and strikes constantly. Actually, a lot of this thread sounds a lot like Hawk. Jeez you guys whine a lot. Read back a few pages, you'll see what I mean. Do you guys just have to find something to complain about since we're actually winning?
Good win today. Who knew Eric Patterson could hit like this. Hopefully it isn't just a random hot streak. I really was lamenting them bringing him up, but he was a big factor in the series. The team has been pulling all the right strings, that's for sure. Hopefully we can continue the White Sox domination next weekend!

More good news for next weekend.
Yeah we have to go to their Comiskey (I will not call it "the Cell" or whatever), but listen to why we're gonna take the series and possibly sweep them again.
We get tomorrow off, and then stay at home to play the Orioles. Meanwhile the White Sox go across the country for 3 games against the Dodgers in LA. Then they have to come all the way back to Chicago, where we've been hanging out hopefully enjoying more home cooking.
I like us taking at least 2 out of 3 from them next weekend and possibly another sweep because of that.

Yea... I thought the Sox had the edge this weekend though, with the Cubs playing the day after a six-game trip and the Sox coming off a homestand... plus Zambrano injured, Soriano still out, etc. Baseball is a weird game. What a great series to go into and come out with a break and a 13 at home winning streak. I thought the series against the Rays was gonna kill the momentum but it def didnt.
Am I the only one who is just fine not seeing Soriano in left right now, he wears on my patience and I just dont see enough out of him to justify him in the lead off position?

14 game home winning streak. :D
As far as Soriano goes, I definitely want him back in the lineup as soon as possible, but you're right about his fielding and the leadoff position.
His fielding doesn't even need to be talked about its so bad.
But I've been a supporter of getting Fuk into the leadoff spot and Soriano into the middle of the order for weeks, if not months now.
My dream Cubs batting order looks like this:
Fukudome
Theriot
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
Soto
Edmonds

14 my bad.
But yes. Fuk in the leadoff, Soriano isnt a patient batter and it annoys the shit out of me, homeruns do almost nothing if there is no one on base jackass. Fuk gets on base a ton and is a grea threat at leadoff, then Theriot and Lee and Ramirez, :hump. We could OWN, but I cant argue with what Pinella is doing, he knows best and has done wonders for this team.

Yeah I got no problem with that right now. If Edmonds continues to play the way he has since becoming a Cub he belongs there. I still like Fuk up at the top of the order, and think that if he stays there, he will steal more bases than he has been.

Pie has played well and hit well in AAA for a while now, but he just can't seem to make the jump to the major leagues. He constantly struggles with so many strikeouts, swings at terrible pitches, he's just no use to us. We need someone who can put the ball in play. Pie can do it, but who knows if he'll ever amount to anything in the big leagues.

I don't understand this line of thinking, and I don't get the Soriano haters. He had 10 HR, 29 RBI, and hit .345 in May. His numbers this month were down, but the guy adds instant offense and a lot of power at the top of the lineup. There was a really big threat right at the #1 spot, now really you have to go down to #3 with D Lee before we have a real home run threat. Having Soriano up there just puts that much more pressure on the opposing pitchers.

Thus why I said I don't know if he will be able to be much of a big league player. It's not like he hasn't had his chances. And as the team said earlier this year, it's not like they can put him out there in the starting hitting .230 in THIS season to see if he'll ever figure it out. We have other, better options right now.

He was hitting .285 his last 15 games when being sent down to AAA. He was hitting better on the season then Edmonds when we got him. He has never ever gotten a long period of time to show he can hit. Understandably because we're contending.
But coming in as a defensive replacement in the 7th, 8th, or 9th inning his rookie year. Then getting maybe one at bat didn't help him develop. This year he started off as the starter. Then after the 2nd series it was Reed Johnson. Even though Pie had a great spring. He wasn't hittng jack the first two series so they benched him.
A veteran player would have been given more then 6 games to show what he could do. Pie is very talented, but he needs to play everyday. This isn't a team that could let him do that. Even though I really do think we should have let him struggle with the bat for a couple months. He's done it at every level then come around to destroy the pitching.
Imagine if Pie's bat came around by Sept/Oct. We'd have a gold glove talent in the outfield, with a cannon arm. If he could hit .280/.310 he could steal 40-50+ bases with his speed. He's hitting .400 in his last 10 games at AAA. Hard to judge his season total at AAA because he was horrible when he first went down.

I know his numbers and Im not a "hater" I just dont feel that he does very well in the 1 spot. We need someone who can be patient with pitchers and who can get on base. Soriano (and D Lee a few weeks ago) has been just swingin away at any ole pitch, that does no good for the team and just sets up for an out right off the bat (no pun intended) You want a HR threat in the leadoff spot Ramirez is a much better bet than Soriano.

But Soriano wasn't doing that in the month of May and beginning of June. He wasn't just swinging at any old pitch. He wasn't striking out as much, and he was taking walks. He became a lot more patient after he returned in May. Meanwhile, he was clubbing home runs left and right, with guys on base. Not just solos. He was hitting breaking balls even.

How can you say the Cubs are a lock if those 2 teams are the main competition? Half of St. Louis SP is on the DL and they are 4.5 back. They are one of 5 teams in all of MLB that have a winning record on the road (21-16). The Cubs last five series have been against teams with pitching staffs in the top 5. They still have the number 1 offense, and the best record in baseball. Though by playing the Cubs some of those teams are no longer in the top 5. Chi Sox, Toronto, and Tampa still remain.
The Cubs are 4th in runs allowed, and 1st in runs scored. This is a team that can have a Zambrano, or Soriano go down and they can get by. St. Louis has the 11th best pitching staff, and 11th best offense. Just outside the top 10 in both, as of right now I'm not that worried about anyone in this division.
Want to know how good this Cubs team is? They have a +112 run differential. St. Louis is +24 in their run differential. The closest to the Cubs is the Phillies who's +79. It's not like this team is getting by because of one person. Soto was insanely hot to start the year. He's come back down to earth. Lee looked like an early MVP candidate. He went through a slump, he looks to be back now. None of it mattered.
The Cubs only have to play .500 ball from here on out to wind up 101-61. I just don't see this team playing .500 ball. St. Louis is 11 games over .500 to the Cubs 20 games. Do you think think the Cardinals will win 100 games?

Nice thing in the Cubs mailbag.
The Cubs have a good chance of finishing the season over .600, and for a little history lesson, when was the last time the Cubs finished a season over .600?
-- Kyle P., Rosamond, Calif.
The 1945 team, which is the last Cubs team to get to the World Series, finished at .636 (98-56). The Cubs also finished above .600 in 1937 (93-61, .604); 1935 (100-54, .649); 1929 (98-54, .645); 1918 (84-45, .651); 1912 (91-59, .607); 1910 (104-50, .675); 1909 (104-49, .680); 1908 (99-55, .643); 1905 (92-61, .601); 1904 (93-60, .608). They also did so nine times from 1876-1900. And, they finished above .700 in 1906 (116-36, .763) and in 1907 (107-45, .704).

Great, they have a +112 run differential and have the best record in MLB right now. It's also June 24. This team has yet to prove it can survive with losing Zambrano for the next couple starts. History has also shown us that the Cubs are not very forthcoming when it comes to injuries and pitchers, so right now I take Z's injury with a grain of salt.
As for playing .500 ball the rest of the way, it could happen. This is not a team that is good on the road, even with their offense. Dempster is great at home, on the road he has yet to get a W. Everything is clicking for this team right now and that's great, but I am still skeptical they are going to pull this off as history has shown this team can have a monumental collapse.

Ok, well, the same could be said for Marquis, that he won't hold up in the 2nd half. This is Dempster's first full year as a starter since 2003, he might not hold up. Will Johnson and Edmonds continue to play the way they have? Will Fukudome have enough in the tank to get through September and into October? These are all legit concerns.

Soriano (and D Lee a few weeks ago) has been just swingin away at any ole pitch, that does no good for the team and just sets up for an out right off the bat (no pun intended) You want a HR threat in the leadoff spot Ramirez is a much better bet than Soriano.
Did you just try to say Ramirez should be in the leadoff spot? :lol Or perhaps you were saying Ramirez is a better home run hitter. But, they have the same number of HR's and Soriano has missed about 4 weeks of the season. So, I don't know what you are talking about. Soriano has some speed, and sure, he's a threat to make a quick out, but he's also a threat to give the team an instant lead and give everyone else a boost. Plus, that's where he is most productive. I don't understand how you can argue against Soriano and then suggest Ramirez.

Speaking of Santo,
here's a Cubs radio question.
What radio channel do I want to tune into to get the Cubs broadcasters?
All I could find the other day was sox stuff, that I believe was on 670.
Is 720 for the Cubs? Or is it something else?
720 am is Pat and Ron for the Cubs yes.

720 am is Pat and Ron for the Cubs yes.
Ah thanks, but do they not do a postgame show or what?
Sunday I was driving home after the game was over, and all I could find was some garbage WhiteSox show on 670. All 720 had on it was some crazy old hippies talking about when Rock and Roll used to be good or something.

Does someone want to remind our team that we are playing the Orioles. I think they forgot.

I blame this on the last three hitters of the game. At least get a sac fly something anything. Make a bit of contact. Foul out for all I care. That was the three worst at bats and plate approaches I have seen in a while.

How in ANY way shape or form, is this Murton's fault? He is actually pretty good. Hitting around .300 for a career. This loss is ALL on Eric Patterson. The idiot waves off Theriot, who was camped out under the fly ball. Patterson decides to wave him off to try and make a catch on a dead run.
Then that runner wound up scoring, who would have been out. There's 1 run, and then few more score with 2 outs when we should have been out of the inning. Patterson got an error on the play, and it was the error that cost us the game.
Though how great is it, that being down 7-1, evenin the 7th. We can always make a game of it?

The Cubs only have to play .500 ball from here on out to wind up 101-61. I just don't see this team playing .500 ball. St. Louis is 11 games over .500 to the Cubs 20 games. Do you think think the Cardinals will win 100 games?
Just here to correct your faulty math...
Your cubs are 48-29, meaning they have 85 games left to play. Playing .500 ball from here on out puts them at 43-42 for the rest of the year, leaving them at 91-71. Respectable, but it puts them well short of your 101-61 projections. They would need to go 53-32 from here on out to do that.
Resume your chatter.
