Just at work. SO it only effects weekday day games.

I could probably go check it on someone elses computer but that would be quite suspicious.

How come the Cubs play so many day games? I'm jealous!

It's just tradition, they've always played afternoon games. Hell, Wrigley didn't even have lights until 1988! I think they have like 20 or so night games this year, which is the most they've ever had.

I've been freaking out for years. At least this year overall they have given me some air to breathe, it's great knowing they can do more than enough to win games this year. They have confidence and depth, it makes losing not so bad, at least not to where I lose hope

Someone needs to tell the hitters the All Star break is over. But lets not over react. We're cold, but we're not dead in the water just yet. Cubs still own a share of not only the NL Central lead, but the best record in the NL. In the entire MLB we're tied for the 4th best record.

Our run differential is +107, Brewers are +35, and St. Louis is +22. Boston is second in differential at +88. Differential doesn't equal wins, but teams as high as ours tend to win a lot of games when all is said and done. But point being the division isn't out of reach. Just from July 27th we have to win more games then the Brewers. If we can't do that we don't deserve a division title. The fact we play each other a lot down the stretch just makes this all the better.

I don't know if anyone remembers my post about that kid that got a Lilly foul ball to the head. I guess he's doing better, and got to come back to a Cubs game.

Dominic DiAngi’s second trip to Wrigley Field went much better than his first.

Not only was the lad from Frankfort celebrating his eighth birthday Saturday, he got to do it with the royal treatment of the Cubs organization, who welcomed back the child who was struck in the head with a foul ball off the bat of pitcher Ted Lilly on July 10.

That was Dominic’s first time at a Cubs game, and it lasted only two innings before the accident that sent him to the hospital with a skull fracture and the concerns of the Cubs players, especially Lilly.

“This is a big difference from the first time we came here,” dad Peter DiAngi said before the game. “We didn’t tell him we were coming here until we got on Addison Street. We just said we were coming downtown to celebrate his birthday.”

And Dominic didn’t know until just before today’s noon game against the Florida Marlins began of another honor he was getting — throwing out a ceremonial first pitch to “catcher” Lilly.

“I could tell he was visibly concerned when he came to visit,” Peter DiAngi said of Lilly’s visit to Dominic at Children’s Memorial Hospital, with teammate Derrek Lee also coming. “I do believe it was comforting for him to come.”

Dominic no longer is experiencing headaches and his speech is returning to normal, his mother Pamela said. “We’re so lucky.”

The family had seats behind home plate — and the protective screen positioned directly in front.
Hopefully this kid fully recovers, and it's awesome the Cubs gave him that sort of treatment.

Mark Cuban article from Jay Mariotti

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/1076445,mariotti072708.article

So here we've arrived at a most fascinating juncture, where the irresistible force of money meets the immovable object of power politics. This is where the baseball lords and all their backroom old-fartery -- Bud Selig, Jerry Reinsdorf and the like -- are confronted by Mark Cuban's extraordinary financial might.

The Maverick has produced the highest bid thus far in the ``Survivor''-like scrum that is the Cubs' ownership derby. And certainly, his $1.3 billion opening offer is welcome news to Tribune Co. boss Sam Zell in his desperate attempt to scale Mammoth Debt Mountain. But if Zell is taking a strong liking to Cuban -- they're definitely two business rebels, though separated by a generation and considerable more coherence on Cuban's part -- neither had better grow too comfortable in the coming months.

You can just hear Selig and Reinsdorf harrumphing and guffawing, ready to make life hell for Zell and Cuban because, well, they can. Sure, Zell can approve Cuban's bid and take it to the owners' meetings in November. But the lords can just as quickly shoot it down, armed with their anti-trust advantages and a hitch that three-fourths of the 30 major-league owners approve Cuban or any other Cubs ownership candidate. Counterproductive and petty as it seems, the lords still have shown no evidence of wanting Cuban and his dynamic record of sports ownership in their exclusive country club.

They view him as a billionaire Bart Simpson. They're leery of his youth, his technological savvy, his e-mail access to fans and media, his crossover celebrity and, of course, the relentless way he has publicly confronted NBA commissioner David Stern and criticized the league's officiating. Never mind that some of Cuban's concerns are darkly coming to life, as seen in the game-fixing scandal of disgraced referee Tim Donaghy. And never mind that Cuban's television, Internet and marketing expertise is exactly what the entertainment doctor ordered for a sport that still doesn't attract enough TV viewers and could age rather quickly in our changing, revved-up world.

My belief is, the lords would prefer to tease Cuban, let him think he's on the verge of his Wrigleyville dream, then make him hurt by rejecting him in the final cut. Cuban is doing everything he can to make nice, saying of Reinsdorf, ``I think Jerry is a great guy,'' adding that he also thinks highly of Reinsdorf's son, the emerging Michael, and certain Bulls executives in his NBA dealings with the Dallas Mavericks. But there is a caution in Cuban's usually carefree manner as a secretive process climbs to the serious phase.

Are you encouraged, I asked him via e-mail, by the early results?

''Yes, of course,'' Cuban wrote back.

When is your next Wrigley Field visit?

''Soon,'' he wrote, not mentioning his recent visit with a Tribune broadcast executive in the first row by the Cubs dugout.

It's tough for Cuban to go on the record these days, particularly with me, a frequent critic of the lords. But a source close to the situation reminded me of the underlying story: ``MLB can't be involved until after the Cubs pick someone.'' Meaning, Zell and Cuban could bond like long lost brothers, and Cuban's group could bid a trillion zillion dollars for the Cubs -- and it still wouldn't matter if Bud and Jerry drive the political wedge and opt for their kind of peeps. There is a precedent, by the way. It happened in 2002, when the lords rejected the highest bid for the Boston Red Sox and went with the lower, $660-million bid of Selig's dude, John Henry.

This might explain why Zell, in an impressive pre-emptive strike, rejected the bid of a big-clout group presumably supported by the lords. John Canning is a Selig guy, an 11 percent owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. He's a Chicago guy, chairman of private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners LLC. He had men influential in Reinsdorf's world -- Aon Corp. chairman and Chicago 2016 chief Patrick Ryan, Chicago sports mogul Andrew McKenna and restaurant=2 0legends Rich Melman and Larry Levy. It's hard to believe their bid was so low that Zell buried it. But then, given the Red Sox case, can you blame him? This could have been his message to the lords -- you can't politically favor Canning if he isn't part of the process.

In the end, though, not even Zell can circumvent the reality: Selig and his boys have the hammer.

Those who care about baseball should be alarmed that the owners have so much power. Way back in September 1992, for all you kids out there, Bud and Jerry led a coup at a O'Hare hotel to rub out the last middleman commissioner, Fay Vincent. With the owners firmly in control, baseball endured a crippling labor mess and a steroids scandal enabled by, yes, a see-no-evil commissioner and complicit owners who allowed bulked-up creatures to revive the sport with inflated power numbers. In this vein, Selig and the owners can choose who they as new partners. The situation hasn't worked out well in Washington, where Reinsdorf helped maneuver the Montreal franchise to the nation's capital and magically watched son Michael and his International Facilities Group attempt to win a $3.7 million consulting fee for the new ballpark. Remember when D.C. councilman Adrian M. Fenty, an opponent of the stadium deal, raised hell about a conflict of interest? ``Jerry Reinsdorf is an extremely wealthy businessperson only interested in making money," Fenty told the Washington Post in 2004. ``The fact that we som ehow are preparing to possibly hire one of his family members makes the deal that much more bothersome and troubling." End result: The Nationals stink, attendance is only 17th in the majors, and Washington baseball remains a trial in progress.

Not even the lords can screw up the Cubs, I realize. They are too popular, too enduring, too much a global phenomenon. I just did an interview with the BBC in London, where the host asked me Cubs questions for 15 minutes. But the lords also have the capability, if not the full-fledged desire, to rub out Cuban. I've said all along that he'd be the best owner for the Cubs, the cool kid who would carry on the neighborhood party while always spending enough money to contend and win. I could see him luring Theo Epstein from the Red Sox. I could see him regularly sitting in the bleachers, as he did last summer, when he kept a running e-mail conversation with me from right field. I could see him understanding the urgency of knocking down the grandstand and building a new one from the dust, while not touching a thing in the precious outfield panorama from the left-field foul pole to the right-field foul pole.

The fans want him. Several players, including Derrek Lee, want him. Anyone with a brain and a 21st-century understanding of winning and entertainment wants Mark Cuban to own the Cubs. I'm sure Tom Ricketts, whose dad founded the TD Ameritrade brokerage, has his charms. So do Hersch Klaff, a Chicago real estate investor, and Leo Hindery Jr., who used to run the New York Yankees' cable operation. If a group run by a New York taxi boss named Andrew Murstein wants to use Henry Aaron on its board and try to buy the Cubs, bring it on.

But you know and I know who should own this team.

He's the one who'll have the knife plunged into his back in four months.

I hate to say this, but he may be right. If he is, Sam Zell may be the only chance we have. Which is scary that it took something so evil, to get the Cubs in the right hands. If that's what it takes, it's what it takes. Seriously though, I can't put into words how badly I want Cuban to own this team.

This was on BleedCubbieBlue.com:

Also, I know it doesn't matter. Iknowitdoesn'tmatterBUT -- the W/L record by TV channel is getting a bit ridiculous. For those of you outside of Chicago who only see the Cubs on WGN, not on CSN, you're probably wondering when they ever win. They're now 19-22 on WGN, 34-16 on CSN. (Tomorrow's game is on CSN.)

Figured I'd make another consecutive post. This was in the Tribune today:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-27-cubs-bits-chicagojul27,0,6803293.story

Samardzija shows staying power (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/cs-27-cubs-bits-chicagojul27,0,251831.story)

Piniella says impact could equate to 'trading for reliever'

After popping eyes with his poise and radar-gun readings in his major league debut Friday, Jeff Samardzija (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/baseball/jeff-samardzija-PESPT004168.topic) may never see the minors again.

"If you see a young man throwing the ball like that, I don't think he'll be the guy leaving, I'll tell you that," manager Lou Piniella (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/baseball/lou-piniella-PESPT008480.topic) said Saturday. "If he continues to throw the ball [well], it's almost like trading for a reliever."

One reliever will have to be trimmed when closer Kerry Wood (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/kerry-wood-PESPT008072.topic) returns, probably late this week.

"We'll see how it unfolds and evaluate it," said GM Jim Hendry, who gave Samardzija $10 million over five years in 2006.

Does Hendry mind that Samardzija is in the bullpen and not starting?

"It doesn't matter," he said. "He has had a lot of starts this year. You get to August and September, you worry about winning games in the big leagues. It's certainly not going to hurt his arm. And there's only another month left of the minor league season."

Relieving is a new role for the former Notre Dame wide receiver, but he said his right arm felt good Saturday, one day after throwing two innings.

He could pitch again as soon as Sunday.

"It's not like when I'm starting, the next day you kind of want to [put on] a sling," he said. "I'm going to tell them I'm ready to go any time, I don't care whether it's sore or not."
Love his attitude, hopefully he's in the rotation next year. I hope we don't send down a guy like Marshall or Gaudin when we have guys like Marquis and Howry on this team.

I think he will in 2009. We all know Fuk is very baseball smart. He was crazy early on, but then through scouting reports and what not. Pitchers have figured him out. Just like any good baseball player, which I believe Fuk is one of them. They have to make adjustments.

So now Fuk is trying to adjust to not only a league, he's adjusting to pitchers who've gotten used to him now. Also keep in mind the Japanese season is no where near as long as the U.S. season. Guys like Theriot tired out last year due to that. I'm sure if it wasn't the pitchers, the length of the season would have done Fuk in eventually as well.

But eventually we'll get that early season Fuk back.

What a weird way for the Shark to get his first save. With a diving catch by none other then Jim Edmonds. Either way, CUBS WIN CUBS WIN!
