I went guys it was insane! During the 6th inning it really felt like it was going to happen. Then when DeRosa made that running catch, you could just feel the tension rise, like here we go.

Also when DeRosa made that catch. I was like "Why isn't Fuk and Pie in?" which Lou eventually did. You should have seen how antsy Sorianio was in left with 2 outs. Everyone wanted this for him.

Really made me proud to be a Cubs fan seeing all of the Cubs fans up in Milwaukee on extremely short notice to cheer on the team. That looked like quite the incredible scene. With Zambrano's bid for history in clear view, the fans grew louder with each out the right-hander recorded until Darin Erstad struck out on Zambrano's 110th and final pitch of the game.

Was Zambrano that dominant?

"No," manager Cecil Cooper said "It was a long travel day and Hurricane Ike. And having two days off. Not saying he wasn't good, but this was a pretty tough circumstance."
Anyone else think Cecil is a lame name?

Zambrano also said the ballpark helped. ''Every time I come to Miller Park, I feel good,'' said Zambrano, who's 7-5 in Milwaukee. ''I like the mound. This is a beautiful ballpark. I wish we could have a new ballpark and a clubhouse like that. I'm impressed.''

"I think we have sucked in September so far," a Brewers player who wished to remain anonymous told ESPN.com's Amy K. Nelson. "And I don't think it's his fault that we can't hit or pitch right now, but something had to change."

But even if they had a fire lit under their ass, we'd have to be some sort of horrible for it to effect us.

Please take your shenanigans back, they are unwarranted and unwlecomed.

I think with Edmonds now on a winning team he will be surrounded by performers, which might help him out of this rut. He will be pitched to differently with runners on base ahead of him, probably be more patient at the plate like the rest of the Cubs, etc. Hopefully he performs well. He has had a great career, and I'm sure he is capable of doing more than his share despite his early season woes in SD.

They'll be fine, and I'm sure they're going to peak heading into the playoffs.

Lou will keep them striving, and he'll make sure they know what good enough is. Everyone knows what they have to do, it's just a matter of constantly improving as a team and stepping up when needed. We've earned our spot, and chasing the Brewers isn't where we need to be, we have demons to cast and bigger fish to catch.
Cubs

ya'll need to relax:thumbsup

I've been freaking out for years. At least this year overall they have given me some air to breathe, it's great knowing they can do more than enough to win games this year. They have confidence and depth, it makes losing not so bad, at least not to where I lose hope

All right then I will. When a pitcher is going for a No-No, and we don't want to directly talk about it. We will refer to it as growing facial hair. If he almost blows it, he grabbed the razor. If he blows it, he got a shave. Lilly had a 5 o'clock shadow in the 7th, and well we all know he's smooth as a babies bottom now.

Big Z should get an extra day off this week, in my opinion. Throw Marshall in there again, he has done very well for us. If starting rotations were typically 6 deep, we would have the best by far.

The offense is going to be the worrisome spot in the playoffs. The pitching staff will keep us in games, no doubt. However, will we be able to convert our opportunities against top-notch pitching? That's the big question.

Playoff Predictions:

NLDS
Phillies @ Cubs
Dodgers @ Mets

ALDS
Red Sox @ Angels
White Sox @ Rays

I'd much rather the Brewers win the Wild Card and us play the Dodgers, but I just don't see it happening. They are self-destructing, and fast.

Tonight's game should be a very good one. Haven't been able to watch the Cubs since the St. Louis games because the Sunday game wasn't on tv and I had class yesterday, so I'm definitely excited to see Dempster v Sabathia tonight. Hopefully Dempster can give us a great start. It would be nice to deal Sabathia a loss tonight.

Either way, we're 8 games up. We just need to win 3/6 against the Brewers in these last two series against them.

Um, it sort of is front page news. Has been at various times. Started in 2007, when coming off a horrible 2006 when fans stopped showing up to games in Sept. Tribune got scared, and wanted to increase the value of the Cubs for when they sold them.

They went out and got Soriano, Lilly, and Marquis. Then we choked in the playoffs. Sam Zell took over in the middle of all of this. Zell said he was going to sell the naming rights to Wrigley. People were very upset. Three companies in the running to buy the naming rights wouldn't pubically reveal themselves. They were afraid of consumer backlash.

Zell couldn't get the kind of money he wanted, and Chicago wouldn't take away historical landmark status from Wrigley. Daley the mayor, a huge White Sox fan, even said if he took it away he'd never get re-elected. Anyways, it appeared the Cubs wouldn't spend anymore under Zell.

Oh and we wound up paying more for Zambrano because Zell wouldn't approve the contract. So we had to wait till the offseason to get it done, and wound up paying a lot more. Early in the season we had agreed on the terms. Zell just had to give his ok. The only reason he allowed us to keep Zambrano was because he wanted more money for the Cubs. I think originally he wanted the new owner to have to pay Z, but the Cubs weren't sold in 07' like originally planned.

But Zell wants top dollar for the Cubs, so he allowed us to dump Jaque Jones and eat the contract in the offseason. This was after he rejected a deadline deal for Jones to the Marlins because we'd have to eat the contract. Allowed us to bid a lot for Fukudome, and all that crap. Even approved the Harden trade. The more the Cubs won the more they're worth.

Mark Cuban is the fan favorite of all this. Bud Selig tried like hell to stop Cuban from getting involved. Selig's buddy Canning was taken out of the running early because he didn't put in a top bid. Zell took him out of the running, so Selig couldn't do what he did with the Red Sox and take a lower bid.

Cuban gets us Cubs fans. He even said he'd watch all the games from the bleachers. That's where he wants to be. I mean we saw what the Trib was like until all these years. They never spent. If we want the Cubs to win championships, and not have 2008 be our only shot for decades. We need an owner who cares, and knows what they're doing. I guess the future of the Cubs isn't front page news though.

i am going on the record as being the first one to notice that kosuke sucked... and i took some bashing.... but he is terrible.. i wish i was wrong but he looks pathetic... Maybe he will retire and go back to japan and then we can sign milton bradley or adam dunn
I don't think Kosuke sucks. I'm willing to bet he's back to being good to great next year. I mean it's not like the guy was only great for a week or two. For the first three months he was our MVP. He was hitting good pitching. Then pitchers adjusted to him.

With the exception of Ichiro most japanese players face this adjustment period. It's usually their second season they really get a handle on things. I mean look at how Theriot wore down last August/September. Fuk is facing a similar thing with playing a much longer season. The first time you do it is always the longest.

Not only that but he's got the whole cultural change going for him. If he's slumping, he doesn't have anyone he can really talk to. Despite not hitting the guy can still draw a walk, and probably plays the best right field in the National Leauge.

Fielder must've powered up with 8 more hotdogs in between innings for that.

41st double, and 300th of the career for Aramis Ramirez! Man would have been nice had he gotten RBI 108, missed by a couple feet.

Ozzie plays disrespect card

After another bullpen collapse, manager turns his focus on the Cubs

NEW YORK -- Sure, playing in the South Bronx was an Off-Broadway production, but White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen wasn't about to waste that opportunity.

With his team knee-deep in a pennant chase in which the margin of error is reaching nil, Guillen used the New York stage to pull out the disrespect card, throw it on the table and play it loud and clear for all of Chicago to hear -- all the way to the North Side.

In the wake of Carlos Zambrano's no-hitter and the Cubs once again all that is seemingly relevant in the Windy City, Guillen was asked about the pennant races taking place on both sides of town.

''We're in the pennant race? Not really,'' Guillen said sarcastically. ''There are a couple people [that believe it], but the Cubs are in the pennant race, and we're not.

''Maybe people feel different, but I feel that way. It was harder for us and we had a tougher season than they had from the beginning. They dominate the league, the division. That's why Chicago people feel sure about the Cubs going and we're not.''
Best thing about our team this year, is we only worry about the Chicago Cubs. I have no idea why Ozzie is even thinking about us.

God DeRosa's hand must be killing him. Villenauva (sp?) throws hard.

I'm not worried, they should be. No one in the NL can match Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, and Lilly.

That was a HORRIBLE strike 3 on Johnson. Down and way too inside.
