Wow, that is just mindboggling...the offense carries them back, yet the bullpen blows it again. I mean, the offense had been pretty stagnant against the Padres, but unlike in previous years, the offense seems to be able to get something done usually, and they have been coming through a lot more lately. But the bullpen, my God, they are just ridiculously awful.

Get Cotts back up, he hasn't been that bad, and send those idiots down, and bring up some more young guys. They may get roughed up a bit here and there, but maybe they won't be so afraid to fuck up. Howry has been horrifyingly bad for the last....3-4 weeks, and it's not getting better for him.

We should cut 3/4ths of our bull pen, and then take a bunch of fucking pre-schoolers and put them on the mound, because it can't get much fucking worse!

The bull pen is 3-15 this year(Or maybe it was 3-12, either way, that's 12 wins that could have/should have been ours.)

marmol pitched in the 5th or 6th inning if i recall and looked pretty good. Other than that this team fucking sucks, they are a complete joke. This team is more painful to watch than last years fuck-ups because at least last year you knew they would lose every game they played. This year they tease you with a big comeback and you think there gonna win, then enter the bullpen to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, these guys really make me fuckin sick. This was on ESPN's power rankings the other day:

Despite having a losing record, the Cubs have a plus-27 run differential, third to the Mets and Padres in the NL.

I don't think the last two games are added in, but it's sad that we are so good on paper. Because it seems like at any time they could pull it all together. Sometimes for seven innings it appears they have. Then the pen sucks, or the offense can't get a hit. Man it just never ends. Either way I'm happy we won today. Big Z is the key to the season.

June 4, 5, and 6th are key to the year. We're 5.5 out of 1st right now. That will go down to 5 or up to 6 after the Brewers play tonight. Well those three games I mentioned are @ Milwaukee. So if we can stay around 5 games out. We need to win 2 out of 3 of sweep to start closing that gap against them. We also play them again in late June as well at Wrigley.

you know you can blame relief pitching all you want, but if you cant score more than 1 run 3 times in a week. then you are not going to win the game anyway.

there is only one team (maybe two) that could possibly win 3 1-0 games in a week and its not the cubs.

What's funny is the Cubs are second in the league in hitting. It's that they get guys on base, and then just ground into double plays and strikeout. It's maddening. No one is consistent. All of their hitters hit when it doesn't matter. I imagine our team RISP avg. is among the worst in the league.

i know how you feel. that extra inning game the padres won at wrigly is so typical padres. i think we won like 4-3 in 14? but we left like 17 guys on base.

madening!

good thing our pitching is amazing.

another thing that i think would be invaluable is actually having a smaller turnover from year to year. keeping the same players together so that they start to trust eachother and learn how to play together.

i wouldnt trade Peavy for anyone.

he is the best pitcher in baseball right now. with that said, that could mean he is the best player in baseball. cuz every 5 games its pretty much a sure thing. hell if it wasnt for our pen he would probaby have 3-4 complete games by now probably a couple shutouts.

although, i do like Zambranos bat. when i saw him pitch at wrigley i was far more impressed with the 2-4 day he had with 4 RBI. :lol :thumbsup

Here's a crazy thing no one has mentioned yet:

Even if they finish the season at .500, that's a 30 GAME IMPROVEMENT from last year. That's huge.

Granted, with this type of talent and payroll, they should be way better than .500. Plus, there have been AT LEAST 5-10 games the bullpen has blown that they should've won. They're just missing that cohesiveness "team unit." The individual talent is there, but it's just not blending together.

-Dempster has 11 saves: Solid.
-Lee is leading the league in hitting: Solid
-Hill/Lilly/Marquis are putting up good numbers: Solid
-Ramirez is tearing it up: Solid

BUT

-Zambrano has had a bad start: NOT solid
-Lee and Soriano aren't putting up power numbers: NOT solid
-The bullpen is a walking "Oh, fuck:" NOT solid

So, I guess, we shall see......

its time to dump this whole team. can the cubs be anymore of a baseball stupid club. lets go up and be impatient at the plate when your down by 8, hell they are like when they are down by 2. The cubs need to start focusing on OBP and base running. And if Barrett lets one more ball go by get rid of his ass. Maybe get rid of everybody except for D Lee and Theriot. They are the only guys worth having. Your not going to get much for the other players, with the exception of maybe Zambrano. Its time to realize that the Cubs are never going to win as long as we fans just keep being satisfied with mediocre baseball and will keep filling the stadium to see a losing team. There is no drive in the players nor the managment to win, let alone the front office. I cannot wait for this team to be bought next year. The Cubs should have hired Joe Giradi when they had the chance.

So the fact you have a franchise third basemen named Aramis Ramirez means nothing to you? The guy is 28 and is coming onto his best years. We could get A LOT for him. Due to the fact he's only 28 and Zambrano is slumping. I'd wager to say he's the most valueable player on the Cubs.

Yeah, it's really weird how we are so terrible...I mean, the stats are in our favor, and they are going through a really rough stretch right now. Things should turn around, I mean, at a certain point the percentages start to take effect, right?

Either way, I don't think they should just dump the team....we are pretty good on offense, despite our recent troubles...Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Theriot....those are good offensive players. Even the defense has been pretty good this year. The timely hitting is terrible, yet Lou seems to rarely try to play small ball to manufacture runs. And yeah, the bullpen is beyond awful.

We need to have Soriano move back to 2B. Not because I think he's a good 2B, but DeRosa isn't a good starter. Neither is Iztruis. So if you have Theriot as your every day shortstop and Soriano at 2B. Then you can call up Pie. Put him in center. Put Murton in left field. Then have Pagan and Floyd split time in right. I mean how does Jaque Jones throw a two hopper to a cut off man in the shallow outfield?

I dont wanna see murton play ever again, hes got no bat at all, the only person in major league baseball that plays a worse outfield than him is on our team and tahts jacque jones (beautiful throw to the cutoff man by the way yesterday), murton's arm is worse than a 7th grade girl, he cant catch, he cant hit for average, cant hit for power, cant steal bases, the only thing hes good for is taking an occasional walk, send this kid back down to the minors, he cant handle this place

Yeah because Wrigley is the only place this has happened. You must be a dumb ass Sox Fan. That is something a "knowledgable" Sox fan would say.

if we had a smart gm, which we do not, then we definetely need to get rid of zambrano before the trade deadline and get some value for him because he obviouslly will not be here by seasons end, we need to get something in return for thsi so called "ace" of a pitcher

People make a much bigger deal out of the fan's antics than they should...tossing a few cups onto the field really isn't hurting anyone. Sure it's stupid and classless, but they weren't tossing things onto the field because of the call, I don't think. I think it was mainly out of frustration, and the same goes for Lou's outrage.

Ummm :confused

I sit in the bleachers almost every game I go to. And not everyone throws shit onto the field. Actually I don't think I've ever seen this happen.

Also, I like to sit wherever I can find seats. I don't think it's fair to say "People who sit in right/3rd base side of the outfield are bad, but the 1st base side is normal." Bad generalization, and makes Cubs fans look bad.

No its a fair assumption to make. Just watch where all the shit happens, the third base line is notorious, yes it hapens all over, but the third base line is just atrocious.

And no not everyone throws shit ont he field but the people who do, do make the fan base look bad.

I was at the game today, Lou's antics were hillarious. I don't know if it got through on the tv, but the place was going wild during his tirade and the energy continued until Howry gave up that homer.

As for littering the field, they really shouldn't give out free mugs to the bleachers. I'm not a fan of throwing stuff on the field, but it seemed to fit at the time, this (every) season is frustrating.

They are fucking terrible...arrgh, its a bad time to be a cub fan. What can ya do? Only hope its gonna get better considering the misery of the rest of the division, but hope is fading fast.

and ya gotta love cubs travel mug day. they can do that again tomorrow there were so many of them on the field that the grounds crew cleaned up! :lol :lol :lol

Cubs.com has some nice stats about the Pie call up. It looks like he's here to stay. No more noodle arm Jones in center!

"He can catch everything in the ballpark and he's worked hard on hitting left-handed pitching," Hendry said. "He's kept his numbers up extremely well at Triple-A. Hopefully, he can give us a spark. He can run like heck. Hopefully, he can give us a big boost."

Pie began the season at Iowa, was called up to the big-league team April 17 to May 9, and then was sent back to the Minor League team. He was hitting .389 overall for Iowa, including a .468 average against right-handed pitchers compared to a .156 mark against lefties. Pie batted .376 in May.

"We'd like him to play out there for a long time," Hendry said.

Pie batted second in his second turn at Iowa, and was hitting .367 in that spot in the order.

"Lou told me when he sent me down that if a guy's on second base, I have to get him over, so I did," Pie said. "I've been working hard."

In his first game back with Iowa on May 10, he went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. He's had 10 multi-hit games in the last 20, including a 4-for-4 game May 28 against Oklahoma. Pie had the right attitude when he was sent down in May.

"It's my job," he said. "If they sent me to rookie ball, I'm going to work hard."

"This is no extended trial," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "We brought him up here to play. He's going to play."

Well it was an interesting late rally.

Soriano didn't play like he did yesterday I'll tell ya that much.

I almost went to yesterday's game at Miller Park. Last time I went to a Cubs vs Brewers game ( last year ) a Brewer hit a homerun on the opening pitch and the rest of the game nothing happened.....NOTHING. We lost 1-0. It was the most boring game ever.

So yesterday, at first I was like man I'm glad I didn't waste money on this boring game. Then in the 7th the cubs got 5 runs and lept into the lead. I was so pissed I didn't go after that.
