I am sorry you're a White Sox fan to start off with  . and Yes the DH is the worst thing ever.
Cubs not good, decent. Astros are a good team. Maybe the best team in both leagues if they keep hitting and pitching like they are doing. Being a good team, maybe great, is coming back from a huge deficet in the standings and being one game away from the playoffs. Doing this on top of all the doubters. Im not just saying this cause I am an astros fan I am saying this as a fan of baseball.

This sounds like my brother, when the Orioles swept the Braves a few years ago when the Braves were (naturally) in 1st, and the Orioles were (naturally) bringing up the rear.
Well, the Astros have stuff to prove today and then, if they get that done, next week don't they? Guess we'll see.
AggieDMBFan06

Don't forget the Cubs also swept the Astros not that long ago. Your team isn't as great as you are making it seem. They have just done well at the most important time of the season.

Fair enough, but I definitely have seen some Cubs fans in that thread.
Truly I hope your team is at least somewhat more competitive this year. Last year was an awesome time to be a Cardinals fan, but its always fun to really see the Cubs and Cardinals fighting late in the season.
It will be interesting to see how Hairston, Burnitz, etc. fit in, just like it will be interesting to see how Eckstein, Grudz, and Mulder fit in in STL.
Hoping for an exciting year!

mine would be:
1. Hairston LF
2. Patterson CF
3. Garciaparra SS
4. Ramirez 3B
5. Lee 1B
6. Burnitz RF
7. Walker 2B
8. Barrett C
9. Zambrano P
picking between Dubois and Hairston wasn't easy. I am really excited about Dubois and hs potential. If Dubois started then Patterson would hit lead off. I think Corey is set for a huge year. .300 25 HR 95 RBI and 35 SB

I guess that Astro fan got showed up by the Cards... And Cardinals are definitely America's team. They are the most popular among the entire country.... Yankees are loved in NY, and hated everywhere else.... Boston is probably 2nd most popular, because of bandwagoners.... My predictions for NL Central:
Cards
Cubs (Wild Card)
Astros
Cincinatti
Milwaukee
Pittsburgh
Barkeep

3-0 Cubs Top of the 2nd.

I am going to have to disagree with you there. I don't think there is an American team. There might be a team that is more popular across the country, and from what I have seen the Cubs are definitely one of them. Mainly because most of the games are on WGN, which is broadcasted all over the country. When you see the Cubs on the road there are always TONS of Cubs fans there. I don't really see that all that much with any other sport team.

Let me get this straight. Alex Gonzales kicks a ground ball, Dusty Baker leaves Mark Prior in so long that he hasnt been right for two years AND the Cubs lost game 7 at home and everyone blames Bartman? Alou might not have even been able to catch it.
Bartman gets exiled from Chicago and Alex Gonzalez skates. Unreal.
By the way tomorrow Prior v. Peavy should be great. Go Padres.

Well I think it is quite obvious that Alou couldn't have made the catch because Bartman reached, and touched, the ball before Alou got to it. I'm sorry that you hate him, but it wasn't his fault he didn't catch that ball. I do agree with you about Chip and Steve though. I really miss Steve Stone. :(

Greatest rivalry in baseball, isnt anyone in here sick of the yanks-sox games every frickin night on tv, they are the most known rivalry cause on an hour of sportscenter thats all they talk about is 20 minutes on the yanks and the steinbrenner watch, and the sox on what the hell David Wells weight is today, they should talk about the cards-cubs much more often.
Edmonds makes very limited mistakes and is the best defensive center fielder in the national and possibly the bigs, with the exception of maybe Carlos Beltran. I hate to admit it though, but Cory Patterson is a damn good centerfielder himself.

Nomar is on the 15-day DL. Grrreat...Todd and Nomar out now. I guess it's better now than late in the season right?? :shrug And as far as the best rivalry being Cubs Cards...I dunno, It's a big one but I think Yankees Red Sox is still the biggest. And that's just thanks to the media coverage and whatnot. I'm not sick of it. I look forward to it, kind of crossing my fingers there will be a fight. haha. I'm sorry but Pedro and Zimmer was just classic. And Varitek shoving Slappy in the face was pretty good too.

Nomar out for 2-3 months.....
I agree about the Cards-Cubs. It was the best rivalry in baseball until about 3 years ago when the media decided to manifest a new better rivalry between the Yankees and Sox. Cards-Cubs is the best rivalry in baseball....Giants-Dodgers is up there too though.
Edmonds is not the best defensive centerfielder in the NL. Patterson has a better arm and can cover much more ground. Sure Edmonds makes the over the shoulder catch every now and again, but He misplays a lot of balls and doesn't catch a lot of balls that guys like Patterson, Beltran, ANDRUW JONES, Milton Bradley, Preston Wilson, or even Ken Griffey Jr. IMO of course.

I agree that Wood has sucked but I hope he isn't hurt. When he is on, he is nar unhittable. And this is to the Cubs: PLEASE STOP GETTING HURT!

BRING BACK THE THREAD!
Well right now i'd have to say the Cubs might be doing the worst ive seen in 3 years....they now have their longest losing streak of the year in 8 straight games...no offense what so ever....and they just sent corey patterson to the minor leagues...what has become of the cubs?

The ironic thing is that their losing streak started right after they got Prior and Wood back.

I getting tired of the Cubs hovering around this barley above .500 season. If they could put together a decent win streak and then not lose 8 straight they actually might put thmeselves as a Wild Card favorite.

Yeah, what the hell is with them anyway...they are able to put together three in a row, then blow it when they have a great chance to win 4 last night...they'll probably end up losing again today...
The damn offense just can't get anything done in tight situations...I mean, last night Barrett comes in and immediately hits the first pitch out, and they proceed to get guys on 1st and 3rd with one out...and can't get it done...

Yeah but the A's haven't had to deal with the same injuries. Nomar, Wood, Prior, and the way it looks now Wood can't stay healthy and get relegated to the pen, which I think will make this team better for the stretch run. St. Louis is way out of the picture but the Cubs should be thankful they are chasing the Nats now and not the Braves.

man, you sox fans in here are a disgrace. go back to the sox thread. I am a sox fan but was looking to add conversation about the cubs, not just come in here and say "come join us"
thats one thing i hate about the sox fans, they are so concerned with the cubs it's amazing. they aren't in our division, they aren't even in our league, so stop worrying about them.
at a sox game i saw a sign that said something like. "sucking 9 years less then the cubs" what the hell does that even mean other than the sox suck.

yeah, Demps has had moderate success...but he scares me. i agree, i would like Wood to close and have better success then Curt Schilling.
for this year, i do see him staying in the pen. we need a closer. JoeB will never close again in a Cubs uni...Dempster is a makeshift closer....surely in the offseason they will adress this. i also think they need to go a different direction. they have always based this current team around Wood, Prior and Sosa. screw them. they dont pitch consistantly enough and obviosuly Sosa is gone. build this team around a lineup and speed. let the pitching fall as it may. i still think Zambrono is the horse of the staff anyway, albeit a headcase at times. he is still 24 years old

SS Nomar Garciaparra, Cubs
Dec. 1 -- The New York Times reported that Garciaparra has said that he would be willing to switch positions. "I played third last year," said Garciaparra on Tuesday night. "I'm willing to play wherever teams ask me to play."
According to the Cubs Nomar said he would not play outfield and he wants to still play shortstop. Now he's claiming that he'll switch to what ever position a team wants him at! Why not for the Cubs?

Here's a question
With the very recent addition of Jacque Jones and also not to forget Juan Pierre, are the Cubs better off then last year with Nomar and Burnitz?
Personally, I think they are because Nomar has nagging injuries, and burnitz was never consistent. Jones provides a solid hitter and a great defender. Also, now the Cubs have the oppurtunity to play their rising star Ronny Cedeno at Short stop? Pierre, they finally find a lead off hitter, the one thing they've been searching for since '03. With the pitching staff they have, I believe the Cubs can go a long way.

Sit on it Cards.
Seconded.
Cubs 2 Cards 0
Lets go for that sweep tomorrow. ESPN gets to watch the whomping. Well, as long as Chet Stedmond and the Junkyard Dog aren't pitching again. Man they are terrible.

Let's hope Sean Marshall pitches like Randy Johnson tonight. The only time I saw him was when he got blasted for 8 runs or whatever against the Padres in ST.

Not likely. What a joke that this guy is in the starting rotation. Hopefully he can go 5-6 innings and the Cubs can score about 8 runs.

Well, he made that one mistake to Rolen. But going by ESPN's K-zone, Rolen should've been gone 2 pitches beforehand.
He looks pretty good so far.

The Cubs need to learn how to score runs off of something different than a homerun.
Also, until they stop banking on Wood and Prior being their aces, they won't ever win.

I thought Marshall was solid. Reminded me of Tom Glavine a little.

And Barrett is on my fantasy team. Man, that makes it even better.
...Except that Isringhausen is on my fantasy team too. WTF was La Russa doing? Why would he put him in there?? He must've been desperate.

Also, Marshall gave up 4 earned runs in 4+ innings of work. That is bad. The bullpen is going to get a lot of work this year-- hopefully they can come through.

I do love our lineup though.
