They were chanting "Two Step" at the Palace and he shook his head and pointed to his throat. So I doubt you'll get Halloween.

I vote no chant, if daves voice allows and they want to play it then it will happen. Im just happy for another opportunity to see my favorite band play in my hometown. If you really want to hear it then bust out a show that has it afterwards to get your fix. One song isnt going to make or break a show for me personally. Just my opinion take it or leave it but I think chanting for a specific song is rude to the band. Its like telling them there plans are not good enough to appease the crowd. Thats all from me for now. I hope I dont hear your lame chant though. Hliton will be rocken regardless though.
Peace,
Michael

Recommended steps for Watchtower4207
1. Download SPAC 04.
2. Listen to dave respond 'Ima play whatever the hell I want'
2.5 Simultaneously realize that chanting = bad idea
3. Go To Iowa.
4. Enjoy show.
5. Drive home.
6. Post review
6.5 Comment on how you are happy that you didn't chant (optional)
If you hear the song you want to hear - more power to ya, but let it be the song that the band wants to play

I agree it's probably a futile effort, but it has worked before....i.e. Two Step at SPAC '02, Blue Water 12/8/00 (from a sign), and who knows if we would have gotten the return of Pig and Last Stop if fans didn't make it known for a couple years that they wanted to hear them. Just playing devil's advocate...although it does piss me off when people around me are yelling out song requests from the last row of the pavilion....

see 7-6 or 7-7 2001 where he teased it like 6 times in one show.

yeah, I plan on going to many more, I just hope he comes to Omaha next year so I Don't have to drive 4.5 hrs to see him, The closest he is ever to me is KC and Ames. Seeing this show was well worth the drive, just would be nice for him to come to Omaha.

see 7-6 or 7-7 2001 where he teased it like 6 times in one show.
so the first show of 2002 there just happened to be no Pig signs so they were like fuck it let's play it tonight and at 90% of the shows for the rest of the year? no...they clearly made a conscious decision to not only play it but make it a regular for the next three years and counting. I'm sure the public outcry for its return wasn't the only factor involved, but I would be shocked if it had absolutely no effect.

Well he wasn't swearing like that. It was more like "as long as I see the signs I will not play the pig.....I will not play the pig as long as I see the signs."
Then Boyd mumbles something like "fuck it let's play"
to which Dave reponds
"No Boyd you wanna play it, play it by yourself, play a medley or something"
Then they launch into Grey Street.
It was 09.15.00
I have that 3m20s recording of them discussing that as they walk out onto stage - if anyone wants it I can AIM it to them tonight when I get home. Although Jason I would be surprised if you didn't already have it.

Umm...no Holden MacNeil. I think it's more to do with the fact that they like to add and remove a few songs every year. Two Step certainly hasn't had anywhere near as much rotation as last year. Typical Situation has shown up this year, Spoon has gone again. The band has songs that are always in rotation such as Billies, Ants, etc. but I really don't think a few occasions such as Dave promising the Gorge they would play Last Stop in '03 really have all that much to do with the decision as what the band wants. Lots of people want JTR to come back but until the band ENJOYS playing it again (which is the reason why they stopped playing it) they will not bring it back no matter how many signs there are.

:banned:thumbsup :lol Seriously when we were at PSU if I heard a Two Step chant one more time after like the THIRD TIME I was going to yell PLAY WHATEVER YA'S WANT YOU STILL FUCKIN' ROCK!!! (But it didn't happen again) I'm sorry but I get so annoyed with the chanting of the songs... it's like ok so I want to hear Seek Up sooo badly, but I will get it when I get it and it will be amazing, I'm not going to scream and yell for it... I feel like Two Step is never going to be played again (at least for awhile) cause of all the chants I heard for it and that's one of my favorite songs.... grrrr:devil . OK I'm done.

amen sista!! since when did we as fans get so demanding on the band and demand, chant, rant and rave to hear a song...isn't it enought that we are in the presence of the band and listing to their amazing music. I would be the happiest flower inteh flowerbox if DMB played the same song over and over again throughout the entire set and encored with the same song....but hey thats just this girl!

Exactly... I could honestly do the same thing, I'm not even joking. Take this tour for instance, I heard many of the same songs a bunch of times but I could never complain cause A. the songs are (IMO) played differently every time and B. the atmosphere at DMB shows is just absolutely breathtaking. The music, the band, the people!!!!!!!!!!! I will always be blown away no matter what was or wasn't played...................

there's a difference between adding a song for one tour and then forgetting about it (i.e. Spoon, Dreaming Tree, PFWYG) and adding a song and continuing to play it on a regular basis...that's the situation with Pig. And like I said before, I'm sure there was more involved in the decision process than just the pressure from fans, and that the band wouldn't play it if they didn't want to, but how can you ignore such an overwhelming outcry for one song to be played? The band is in the business of entertaining its fans, and how does it do this? By playing a song that was obviously one of the most popular songs in its repetoire. As for the Last Stop chants at Gorge 02 and the rest of the tour, when Dave came out he said they were just talking about how they should play it again...who knows if that was true or not, but if it was I wonder what put that idea in their heads. do you see a pattern here? A huge "play Pig" movement and a lot of chants for Last Stop, followed by the band starting to play them again...coincidence? Maybe. Personally, I don't think it was a complete coincidence.
For what it's worth, I was at Gorge 02 and when Dave said he promised they would play Last Stop, he wasn't just paying lip service to get us to shut up. He was speaking in a very sincere and honest tone, and you could tell that at that point in time he intended to play it in the not too distant future.

The band knows people want to hear Halloween. They dont need people tp chant it. Just as they know people want(ed) to hear Last Stop. They will play it when they want to. Just think what would happen if they played Halloween regularly since 1994. It wouldnt be what it is right now. It would be nothing more than Ants. Not to mention can you imagine Daves voice after years and years of regularly playing the song.
The bottom line is chanting for a song at a show is stupid and Dave is quoted in IEMs of agreeing to that. On top of that, this thread should die because its 10/10 now, 10/6 was awhile ago.

The only year pig wasn't played was 2000, when the band were playing lots of regulars whilst working on the new lillywhite stuff. Is there really an argument for pig having not being played for a while? I think not.

no it was not played from August 1999 until April 2002, a span of 2 years, 8 months...if this was a band like Rush that has a couple dozen albums, that wouldn't be a big deal, but for a band that only has a few albums that prides itself on mixing up their setlists, that's a long time. It was TEASED in 2001, which despite what this site's song stats indicate does not count. Most of the time it was Dave strumming a couple chords and occasionally singing a a verse, that's it.
