I'm a pessimist. Which, as far as I can logically see, makes me happier than an optimist. See, I know the worst will happen, so when it doesn't, even if the best doesn't happen, I can't help but be thrilled :) But an optimist expects the best, anything short would be a disappointment right?

People tend to compare optimism and pessimism as a black/white relationship. This isn't true. There are three factors that go into "optimism and pessimism" (I put these in italics, because I don't believe they exist.)

What I'm talking about is a theory called explanatory style, a shoot off of the cognitive model of psychology (schemas, ABC theory, things like that). When an even happens to you, we react using 3 factors: (at the risk of using too much psychology jargon, I'll keep it simple here)

Always/Not always
Everything/Not everything
Me/Not me (not as important as the first two, actually...)

Say you fail a test. Why did you fail the test? People who say "I failed because I'm stupid and I never do anything right." are more prone to depression. That single thought there is what we call an "Everything/Always" thought. Someone else could say, "I failed the test because I didn't study hard enough." is less likely to go through a depressive episode because their thought process doesn't include everything about the person, just this one time shot.

Here are a few questions for you all. Most of you have taken the VIA (that's the big questionnaire that lists your strengths).

Yes, 'specially the one about giving and recieving love, or something like that.
2.) Do you use these strengths in your everyday life? How?
Um, not right now. The leadership thing mostly gets used at work, which I'm not doing right now.

Different, but not completely different. It's good to have some in common, I think, but certainly there are stregths that complement each other nicely.

And the guy at the job says that he's really looking forward to working with me because i'm like the only one that i applied at the station that actually wants to get involved with radio.

And he's gonna set me up with an internet radio show and hopefully that will turn into a show actually on the air.
